Chapter three:
The host club, who have decided to be closed for today, is sitting around the table excitedly talking about how things will work with Haruhi now a part of them… All except Kaoru who just watches on from his seat.
Kaoru is glad that his friends aren't trying to force him to take part in the discussion. He is only acknowledged here and there which he knows is an invitation to join that is only an option. He knows that they are only doing this because they care for him. His eyes flicker to Haruhi who is mostly listening while also adding a few things here and there. He looks away from her before he is caught. He still doesn't like the whole adding a new member to the group thing.
Hikaru gently pats Kaoru's shoulder with his hand. "It'll be okay. Remember that Haruhi probably won't stay long."
Kaoru nods softly then feels eyes on him so he glances to the others. He notices that the others aren't looking at him but Haruhi is. He meets his eyes with Haruhi's own seeing that the newest member is observing him almost studying him. He keeps his look guarded to the other then turns away to look to Hikaru. He lets their eyes meet and sees comfort in the others eyes. "I'm still not sure about this. What if Haruhi does plan to stay?" He mumbles to Hikaru meaning for only the other to hear him.
"Well then we can figure that out then." Hikaru offers as an idea.
Kaoru turns away and gives one more guarded look to Haruhi before turning to Hunny who turns to him to see if he is alright.
Hunny shoves Usa-chan into his arms as a gesture of comfort. "You can hold him until the meeting is over." He whispers then smiles to his friend.
"Thanks." Kaoru accepts not wanting to upset Hunny by rejecting that idea. He truly is grateful for his friends even though they want to add a new person into their group. He supposes he'll just have to go along with it for now and see what happens. He can tell that there won't be any pressure for him to join in on acting like Haruhi has been a part of their group for awhile. He is allowed to take things at his own pace.
After the meeting…
Kaoru got the his limo to take him straight home after giving Hunny back his stuffed rabbit. He enters the mansion being greeted by the maid that is there. He hardly acknowledges her and heads to go towards his room. He notices that his parents room door is cracked open. He approaches it as he needs to walk past it to get to his own room. He pauses hearing his parents talking inside of the room with it sounding heated.
"Give it a chance. Maybe things will change when he becomes an adult?" His father points out clearly trying to calm his mother down.
"No! I don't get it! Why us?! Why did we have to have a messed up son?!" His mother demands sounding rather upset about the whole thing. "Why couldn't he have been normal!? We've waited long enough for him to 'grow out of this phase' as you seem to like to put it! I refuse to leave the family business to someone like that! He isn't right in the head clearly! It's too bad that it'd be seen as a stain our family if we sent him to some mental asylum." She tsks as if she wishes that she could just get rid of her own son by leaving him at some asylum somewhere. "We are just going to have to decide on a new heir."
"You mean try for another child? After what happened last time? All the trouble our last attempt caused us? What we had to sacrifice?" His father sounds like he can't believe what he is hearing.
His mother sighs finally sounding more calmer and a little unsure of herself. "I don't know." She admits and Kaoru can imagine her glancing away from his father. "I'm going to need some time to think about it."
"Of course dear. Take the time that you need."
Kaoru continues forth towards his room not feeling like being caught listening in then having to hear his parents possibly try to explain themselves. He doesn't really care about what they were arguing about if he is going to be honest. He had briefly wondered back before high school if he was going to be sent away, even though that never happened and by the sounds of it never will happen. He doesn't notice that Hikaru hangs back watching him worriedly.
Hikaru floats there and glances to the door leading to the parents room. He turns away then floats after Kaoru trying to catch up to him. He phases through the door that the other had closed. He knows that Kaoru knows that he can never really be locked out as he can go through solid objects… Except for Kaoru himself for some reason. He sees the other change out of his school uniform and into more comfortable clothes. He waits until the other is changed before floating closer to him. "Kaoru." He tries to begin though the other speaks up.
"I am fine Hikaru." Kaoru turns to look to the other's face as said other floats there staring back at him. He offers him a smile. "You should know well that I don't really care what they say about us. I never did. They never truly understand us. I did think about them sending us away even though it seems that it most likely won't happen by what they said. We're going to be together for however long we want. No matter what anyone says. Anyone who tries to change that can just go right off and do their own thing. I never will care about them. Us matters. Not them."
Hikaru finds himself smiling glad that the other is doing okay despite having heard what his parents had said. "Okay. You know that I believe you." He sees the other nod in confirmation to this. "What are we going to do if they really do find someone else fill the roll they seem to refuse to train you to do?"
"We'll figure ourselves out." Kaoru shrugs it off. "They won't just abandon us to keep up their image as good people to their business partners and protentional business partners. We could find something that could be our own. There is so many options that could be open to us for us to explore." He gains a sparkle in his eye that makes Hikaru smile a little more.
Hikaru nods his head in agreement to this. He is happy that Kaoru is ready to find something for himself. He plans to follow the other no matter what he ends up deciding to do with his life.
