Before making any more spur of the moment decisions, Jade decides it would be best to see a doctor and confirm her pregnancy. She is in fact pregnant, eight weeks to be exact. There is never a conversation between her and Andrew about whether or not going through with the pregnancy is a good idea, there is just an unanimous decision that they are going to be parents come summertime whether they're ready for it or not.
One conversation that they do have, however, is about the chances of losing the baby. They agree not to tell anyone about the pregnancy until Jade reaches her second trimester, which is still about a month away. She'll be fourteen weeks come Christmastime, and that seems like as good of a time as any to start telling their friends and families. Jade will list her condo for sale at the start of the New Year and move in with Andrew, since his penthouse is much bigger, but until then they will continue to live apart.
"I'm not in a rush to get married." Jade says to him one day
"What do you mean?" Andrew looks confused
"I mean...we don't need to hurry to get it done before the baby comes or anything." She clarifies "As long as we do it eventually...I'm okay with that. I don't want it to feel forced, you know?"
She's still not entirely sure if Andrew is the person she's meant to spent the rest of her life with, because in the grand scheme of things they really haven't known each other that long. But being a child of divorced parents...Jade figures that she owes it to her own child to at least give the relationship a shot. It could end up being something wonderful, and if she walks away now she'll never have the chance to find out.
"I get what you mean, yeah." Andrew smirks, walking over and wrapping his arms around her waist "That gives me plenty of time to find you the proper engagement ring too."
"You know how I feel about flashy jewelry..." Jade reminds him as he presses a kiss to her forehead "It's gaudy."
"Hey, I never said it would be flashy." He chuckles "Just that I want to make sure that it's just right for you."
And the ring he picks out isn't half bad, Jade has to give him credit. An emerald-cut diamond set in a halo of slightly smaller diamonds set on a silver band...it's definitely beautiful. He makes a big show of presenting it to her when they celebrate Christmas with her mom, and afterwards they share the news about the baby. Most of their family members, her's and his alike, while a bit confused, are nothing but supportive. However, no one is more supportive than Cat Valentine. She screams with glee when Jade tells her, so loud in fact that Robbie runs in to make sure that everything is okay. Jade had shared with her a few months prior that her relationship with AJ had come to sort of a standstill, but Cat is overjoyed that they seemed to have worked through it and are now having a baby.
"I don't think I've ever seen Cat that happy." Andrew remarks later that night as they're laying in bed
They've been living together for a few weeks now, but Jade will admit the penthouse still feels like just Andrew's and not their's. She knows she's still in the middle of her adjustment period and that a house feeling like a home will take time. However, if in a few months she doesn't feel any differently, she might bring up the idea of moving to a place that is new to both of them that they could start over in together.
"You weren't around when she signed her first recording contract." Jade reminds him "I don't think she'll ever be happier than she was that day."
"That's fair." Andre smirks, reaching over and gently lifting her shirt up to reveal her bare stomach underneath "There it is."
"Stop..." Jade rolls her eyes playfully
She understands that she's quite literally growing another human being, but she's still a tad bit insecure about how her body is changing. It's all happening a lot faster than she thought it would. Both with her pregnancy...and her relationship. Things with Andrew have improved, but their dynamic has changed as well. They're no longer just having fun, they're having a baby, a real living being, together. They have to take things more seriously now.
"C'mon, s'nothing to be insecure about, Jade." Andrew assures her, tracing circles on her skin with his finger "You're making a person in there. You should be proud."
"I know, I know..." She agrees "It's just all still a bit strange is all."
She hopes that maybe it will feel a bit less strange after the Grammy's next month. Andrew, being in the business that he is, had been invited and RSVPed with a plus one. That's her, of course, and not only will they be making their red carpet debut as a couple, despite being together for close to a year, but she'll be obviously showing by then. Maybe once the whole world knows, not just the few people closest to them, it will be easier for her to come to terms with. Less of a secret, more of a reality.
"I get that it's strange, but it's exciting too...don't you think?" Andrew smiles "Knowing our little guy is in there."
"Guy?" Jade raises an eyebrow at him
"I just have this gut feeling." He admits "It's a boy, I know it's a boy."
Andrew knows he can be a dad to a little boy. He's absolutely clueless when it comes to little girls or anything related to them...but a boy? He never knew how excited he was to have a son of his own one day until it became his reality.
"We'll find out in a few weeks." Jade says
"Or we could just not find out." He suggests "Getting the confirmation right there in the moment when we meet him would be pretty exciting, don't you think?"
"Yeah." Jade agrees with a smile "It would be."
She's a planner, there's no question about it. But leaving one thing up to curiosity could be fun, she supposes.
"While we're on the topic..." Andrew continues "I wanted to ask you something."
"Okay?"
"So, I'm Andrew John Powell Jr. and-"
"I know your name, Andrew." Jade chuckles "I know we haven't been together that long, but I do know that much."
"No, I know." Andrew laughs "I just...I think it would be really cool if he could be Andrew the third, you know? It would make my dad really happy too."
"Yeah." Jade nods "I like that idea."
"You do?"
"I do." She confirms "It honors your family, and my dad goes by John even though his name in Jonathan...so in a way it honors him too. I like it."
"Thank you, Jade."
"Would you want him to be AJ too?"
Whether her fiancé goes by AJ because of Andrew John or because of Andrew Junior, Jade still isn't sure. However, she is sure that she doesn't love the name AJ...which is why she opts to call him Andrew instead.
"Nah." Andrew shakes his head "I mean, not unless he wants us to call him that once he's old enough to decide. I picked AJ because I wanted to separate myself from my dad a little bit. Maybe we can come up with something unique for him too."
"Alright." Jade smiles "Sounds good...as long as it's not Andy."
"Oh definitely not." Andrew laughs in agreement as he wraps an arm around her waist to pull her closer to him "Andy is off the table."
