Beck is very involved in the television and film industry, so when awards season rolls around...his interest is piqued. He, and Bianca by association, has been invited to attend the Emmy's and Golden Globes numerous times, even on the years that he hasn't been nominated. And he wouldn't want to brag...but he's won three Golden Globes at this point in his career. They've even been to the Oscar's once. If he and Bianca aren't in attendance, Beck is always sure to watch the award shows live on television. There's usually always someone he knows there that he can root for, and if not he's still intrigued by it. Music award shows though...he's a bit less interested.
If Cat or Andre is nominated he tries to make a point to sit down and dedicate himself to watching, but even then he'll shut it off once he knows their categories have passed or Cat's performances are over. He just isn't as interested in music as he is in acting. After attending Hollywood Arts and making the friends that he did, he has an appreciation for it...but that's about it. Bianca will sometimes watch, because music and dance tend to overlap more than music and acting do, but she never forces him to watch with her...and she won't go out of her way to watch if she's busy.
This year he had forgotten the Grammy's were even happening, even though Cat was nominated and performed. Beck feels a pang of guilt surge through his body the next morning when he wakes up and reads the text message from Andre that she won in two categories. He sends Cat a quick congratulatory text and then heads down to their home gym to start his day off with a workout.
Normally he and Bianca both try to avoid the Hollywood gossip both on television and on social media, but today Beck is hoping one of the stations might be recapping the previous night's events. He turns on the TV mounted on the wall and begins flipping stations, stopping when he sees Cat's face all lit up with flashbulbs on the red carpet. Satisfied for the moment, he walks over to begin his chest presses while he watches.
"She definitely had reason to celebrate last night." One of the television hosts remarks as a video of Cat's performance appears beside her on the screen "Not only did she absolutely kill her performance, but she walked away with not one, but two of the night's biggest awards...both album and record of the year."
"This is absolutely surreal!" A video of Cat accepting her award plays on the screen "Thank you all so much for supporting my art and for supporting these projects. I can't do what I do without any of you!"
Typical Cat. If he didn't know her personally, Beck supposes that he would still find her very hard to dislike. Not only is she amazingly talented and dedicated to her work, but she's also incredibly humble. She's always been that way. He finds himself wishing that they were still as close as they were in high school, Cat is great company to keep and she and Bianca would probably get along really well if they were given the chance to spend time together.
Between living in Chicago for as long as he did and the distance that comes with working in different parts of the industry, Beck doesn't speak to Cat, or to Robbie really, nearly as much as he used to. There will be friendly text messages exchanged when something big happens for one of their careers and they'll see each other once or twice a year, usually at one of Andre and Tori's holiday parties, but otherwise they don't communicate much. There had been a bit of a split after high school as well, Beck noticed. He stayed closer with Andre and Tori, and Cat and Robbie stayed closer with Jade. Most of it has to do with history, Cat and Jade had known each other since elementary school so of course they were more likely to stay in contact with one another than anyone else, but deep down Beck knows it also had to have at least a little bit to do with his and Jade's breakup.
"Someone else with reason to celebrate?" The same television host says as the video playback switches from Cat back to the red carpet "Producer AJ Powell stepped out for the first time last night with his fiancé Jade West, who we can see here is sporting a new baby bump! The two were rumored to be linked earlier this year when Jade was photographed leaving AJ's apartment, but this definitely seems to confirm their relationship. Look at the size of that ring!"
Beck almost falls off of the machine he had been working on.
Did he see that correctly?
Did he hear that correctly?
Jade is not only engaged, but she's engaged and pregnant too. He hadn't even known she was dating this AJ guy...not that he really cares, but word gets around rather quickly in the entertainment industry. Not to mention he would have figured Andre or Tori might have heard something from Cat and passed it along if they knew. They would have passed that along...right...?
He decides he's happy for her...maybe even a little bit jealous. Sure, he and Bianca have been happily married for five years now, but Beck has known that he wanted to be a father one day for as long as he can remember. He and Jade had talked about the possibility of having kids when they were together...and they broke up when they were seventeen. Now things have changed and there is no one he would rather have a child with other than Bianca...but when they got married they were both trying to launch careers. It hadn't been the right time. But maybe now that they're older and things have slowed down a bit...
Beck grabs the remote off of the shelf on the wall and switches off the TV. He can find Cat's performance and full acceptance speeches on YouTube later...right now he needs to finish his workout.
"HEY BEE?" Beck calls out into the house "ARE YOU AROUND?"
It's nice to have a house with so much space, but sometimes it seems like there's...too much space. At least for just two people.
"BEE?" Beck calls out to his wife again as he enters the kitchen
"BY THE POOL!" Bianca calls back in a singsong tone
"There you are." Beck grins as he steps out onto the patio and closes the door behind him
"Here I am." Bianca smiles as he greets her with a kiss "Enjoy your workout?"
"I suppose." He chuckles, sitting down on the same pool chair as her "But I enjoyed the shower afterwards even more."
"You should have come and found me sooner." She smirks "I would have joined you."
"Next time."
"What's up?" Bianca asks him "You seem like you came out here with something on your mind."
"I, uh...well..."
After being together for just under a decade now, Beck should have known his wife is able to read him better than anyone. The topic he wants to talk about, however, isn't one that he can just bring up out of nowhere.
"Is everything okay?"
"Everything is fine." Beck assures her "It's just...we've been married five years now, yeah? And as I was walking around the house trying to find you just now I got to thinking...we have all this space...and it's just us here...what if we had a kid?"
"A kid?"
"Yeah." Beck smiles a bit "A baby."
"This wouldn't happen to have anything to do with your ex-girlfriend announcing a pregnancy last night, would it?"
"Excuse me?"
Bianca knows about Jade, just like he knows about her two ex-boyfriends as well. They have always been very open and honest about their pasts, just like they are in every other aspect of their relationship. However, neither of Bianca's exes happen to be a writer on a popular TV show...or frequently show up in his friends' instagram posts.
"It's all over the internet." Bianca tells him, holding up her phone
"The fact that it was Jade had absolutely nothing to do with it, but yeah..." Beck admits "When I saw the pictures of her and that guy on the red carpet last night it got me thinking about my own life and where I want to be and...I want to have kids...with you. I want to be a dad."
"You'd be a really good dad." Bianca smirks, sitting up and moving closer so she can take his hand "But..."
"But what?" Beck asks as he laces their fingers together "You don't want to have kids?"
"That's not what I said, let me finish." She laughs "I don't think now is the time. As a dancer and as a choreographer, I rely a lot on my body. I rely a lot on my body being at a certain level of fitness too and if I'm pregnant...I just want to establish myself a bit more in the dance world before I can commit to taking that kind of time off...you can understand that, can't you?"
"Of course I can." Beck assures her "I understand the whole pregnancy thing would effect you a lot differently than it would effect me too. If you don't think you're ready, then I don't want to push you. This isn't something you can go at with half a heart."
"Thank you." Bianca smiles before pressing a kiss to his lips "I love you."
"I love you too."
"I think I might know a way to make the house seem a little less empty though."
"Oh yeah?" Beck raises an eyebrow at her "How?"
"What if we got a dog?"
"I like that idea."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah." Beck grins "I've always wanted a Rottweiler."
"Well then let's go find us a Rottweiler."
