"Are you kidding?" Beck's female co-star screams over the blare of the wind machine
"This isn't the time to be fucking around!" Beck, deep in character, yells back over the noise "Do you trust me?"
"Of course I do!"
"Then follow me!" Beck extends a hand to her "Please!"
He offers her a look of assurance as the two join hands.
"There's debris flying everywhere!" Jade yells to them from her director's chair "Duck!"
She had been the one to get the show off the ground and running in the beginning, and most would attribute her writing and directing style to playing a major part in its success. Jade West had been Cloverfield Isle's fearless leader for four seasons, and it only felt right for her to be the one to direct the last episode.
"Now run towards the portal!"
Beck and his co-star run towards the green screen on the opposite side of the soundstage, still holding hands as they attempt to dodge the flying debris that will be CGI-ed in during post-production editing.
This won't be the final scene of the episode, but it is the final scene they're going to shoot. The actual chronological final scene is an emotional one, and if it had been the last thing they filmed there isn't a doubt that everyone involved would be too emotional to get through it.
"CUT!" Jade yells "Ladies and gentlemen...I think we've got it. That's uh...wow. That's a series wrap on Beck Oliver and Macy James."
The cast and crew burst into a chorus of whoops and hollers as everyone begins hugging and congratulating one another. A few people slap Beck on the back as he makes his way through the crowd, but the only person he cares about celebrating with in that moment is Jade. Grins spread across both of their faces when their eyes lock on one another and Jade pushes her way towards Beck, leaping into his arms and wrapping her legs around his waist as he catches her.
"I'm so proud of you." He tells her with a smile
"I'm proud of you." She says, taking his face in her hands and kissing him "I love you."
"I love you too."
Their wrap party looks a bit different that year than it it has in the past. Rather than renting out a restaurant, the studio crew fills the show's soundstage with artifacts and photographs from the past four years. Catering pulls out all of the stops, there's a ton of food and a cake that looks like one of the sets, and after the brief celebration after the last scene, the cast heads to their trailers to change so that they can get the party started.
Everyone who has ever worked on the show, from the caterers to the lighting techs to the cast and crew, receive denim jackets that look similar to the one Beck's character wore very often and had become a staple piece of the show that read 'Cloverfield Isle' across the back and have their first name embroidered on the left chest. Jade is surprised that she receives jackets for Harper and Drew as well to take home to them.
As the showrunner, Jade is called upon to make a speech...which she had been prepared for. She thanks each department individually, she thanks the studio for entrusting her with the responsibility, she thanks everyone for working so hard, and she thanks Beck for being the most supportive partner that she could have asked for. She speaks to the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, and she also speaks to the importance of family...and how lucky they are to have this new family of wonderful people they had created by working on the show together.
"Speaking of family, Beck and I have a little announcement to make..." Jade smirks as Beck finds his way out of the crowd of people and to her side "We are...having a baby."
Everyone at the party erupts into cheers, causing both Beck and Jade to start grinning like idiots. It had been hard for them both to keep the secret for so long. Although Jade is only four months and just barely showing, she had been experiencing quite a few of the symptoms that are associated with the first trimester. A few people had hunches, which are now confirmed, but it feels good to finally be able to tell everyone.
"Can I?" Beck asks, gesturing to the microphone in Jade's hand
"Sure." She shrugs
"Thanks." He smiles as he takes it from her, pressing a kiss to her forehead before beginning to speak "Excuse me, everyone! Hi! Up here! It's exciting, I know...but I have a few more things I'd like to say so if you could give me just a few minutes..."
He waits for the crowd of people to quiet down a bit before he speaks anymore.
"Thank you." He says "Now, a lot of you have probably heard that Jade and I knew each other before this show...we went to high school together. But the thing I'm not too sure many of you know is that we dated for three years...high school sweethearts technically, I guess. Then we broke up for a while and went our separate ways and fate...well, fate brought us back to each other. I know that we might've created a bit of a weird environment by entering a relationship while we were working together, but I just wanted to say 'thank you' to you all on behalf of both of us for being so supportive. We all really have become a family...which is why I wanted you all to be present when I did this..."
He un-loops his arm from Jade and uses the free hand that isn't holding the microphone to fish around in his pocket, pulling out a ring box as he kneels to the ground. The look of shock on Jade's face and the cheers and applause from their show-family bring a huge grin to his face as he raises the microphone to speak again.
"Jade-" He begins, then has to stop to wait for the noise to stop "Jade, I am so grateful every day when I wake up that you have chosen me to love you, and that you allow me to love your children like they're my own. I'm forever indebted to the universe for bringing us back into each other's lives, and I never want to know a life without you again. Will you marry me?"
"Of course!" She responds, but Beck is barely able to hear her over the cheering that resumes
He slides the ring on her finger then stands up, wrapping his arms around her waist and picking her up as she wraps her arms around his neck. The couple share a kiss then break away to smile at one another.
"I love you!"
"I love you too!"
As Jade sits on the bed later that night, or really early the next morning, examining the ring on her finger, she can't help but feel a strange sensation in the pit of her stomach. At first she worries that the morning sickness might be back, but she quickly realizes that it's a different kind of strange.
"Everything okay?" Beck asks, pulling a t-shirt over his head as he sits down beside her "Diamond not big enough?"
"No, the diamond is perfect." Jade chuckles, turning to face him "You're perfect. It's just...I'm feeling a little bit of deja vu is all."
"How do you mean?"
"I mean that..." Jade hesitates "Andrew and I got engaged because I was pregnant, and I know that our relationship is so much stronger than the one I had with him but it still scares me a li-"
"I bought that ring months before we knew you were pregnant." Beck tells her "Before we even started talking about moving in together. The plan had always been to propose to you at the wrap party, baby or no baby. You can ask Andre, I showed him the ring the day I picked it up."
"You did?"
"Yeah." Beck smiles, brushing the hair out of her face "I understand why you're scared, but you don't need to be. I promise. You and me? We're together for the rest of our lives. I love you, I love the life we're building together, and nothing will ever be able to change that."
"I don't deserve you..."
"Sure you do." Beck laughs "Come on, it's been a long night and I'm sure Drew will be up bright and early begging us to go swimming."
"You're right." Jade agrees "Hey Beck?"
"Hm?"
"I love you too." She tells him "And this life."
