4—Is Trust Gained
It had been over a month since Sakura had kissed Gaara on the cheek. He hadn't changed his behavior towards her at all despite the kiss, which she was thankful for. She did notice, however, that he was more obvious in his watching her. It was like he was keeping a possessive eye on her. Just the thought made her blush. It was even worse when Ino noticed it as well, because the blonde had a really big mouth. There weren't many people in the courtyard that didn't hear the blonde shout that Sakura was involved in some sort of secret relationship with the red head.
Sakura turned even redder than his hair as he turned and regarded them as the blonde had made a scene and embarrassed Sakura to the point that the teen actually got up and left. It wasn't long before she had a shadow. She looked over her shoulder, paranoid that she was going to have to duck into a classroom to escape Sasuke. However, her shadow was not the irritating Uchiha, but instead a lightly blushing Gaara. She blushed worse and covered her face, praying that she could hide in a hole or under a rock or something.
She felt his warm hands on her wrists, moving them away from her face. She couldn't lift her head to face him; her embarrassment was eating away at her. She felt his finger under her chin, forcing her head up. She could feel tears gathering in the corners of her eyes. She heard his gasp and looked up into his eyes, boring into what seemed to be her very soul. She bit her lip and noticed his eyes go straight to that before he framed her face with those big hands of his and leaned in, kissing her gently. Her eyes widened as she realized what was going on. She gasped and felt his tongue snake into her mouth, lightly tasting her.
Her hands snaked up and circled his wrists as he gently caressed her jaw while he kissed her. Her eyes fluttered closed and she leaned into him, giving in to her feelings. Over the month since she'd kissed him on the cheek the first time, she'd been getting to know the real him. He would wait by the gate until she got there and then he'd walk her home. She always stopped before getting to her house and kissed him on the cheek, running to her house afterwards.
She felt him pull away slightly and look down at her, kissing each eye before he pulled her even closer to him. He just held her, telling her there was nothing she needed to be embarrassed about. She nodded, though she still had a slight blush on her face. She was surprised when he leaned in and whispered something to her. She stared at him, her blush darkening, but for a completely different reason.
"You…you want to go to the Winter Dance with me?" She asked shyly. He nodded and stared at her, just like he'd been doing over the last several years. She bit her lip and shyly nodded, also giving him a spoken answer. "O-okay…I'll go with you…" She noticed the corner of his mouth twitch and she took that to be his equivalent of a smile. She noticed him take a step back from her and she understood why when she heard their names being called.
She smiled gently up at him and they walked out together, though one would never be able to tell that anything had happened between the two of them. Before they parted ways, he heading to his friends and she to hers, he leaned in and whispered to her. She smiled, a slight blush coming to her face, and she nodded.
From Gaara's table, Naruto observed the exchange, along with several others. Gaara's closest friend next to Naruto was more like Gaara himself; very sedate and analytical. He, too, did not get along well with Sasuke and made a point to let the Uchiha know that just because his family was rich didn't mean he ran the world.
As Gaara returned to the table, silver met jade and a silent agreement passed between them. What it was, Naruto wasn't sure, but he was pretty sure it had something to do with Sasuke. Naruto was half tempted to ask Gaara to pick the older boy's brain about his cute younger cousin, Hinata. However, he was more interested in knowing what had passed between Gaara and Sakura. He looked up and noticed Sakura laughing with her friends, a light blush on her face. She looked very happy. He also noticed that every once in a while, she'd look over their way and her blush would come back with a vengeance. Sakura had managed to do in only a few months what most people never succeeded in doing: she'd gained Gaara's trust.
