Hello. This is the updated first chapter. As soon as this is up I will delete the other ones. I sincerely hope this one is better. I cringed so much when I read the original. Please enjoy.
I don't own the characters.
Blood. It surrounded him, everywhere he looked there it was, pooling. He was covered in it and he enjoyed every moment of it. He forgot his name, where he came from, why he was here, if he had friends or family, not that he cared. The only thing he knew was that he was able to enjoy the taste of the blood. It made him feel strong, he was the King and he feared nothing. It was the others that feared him. He heard a noise from the darkness, a darkness that permeated the area like a cloud. He stopped what he was doing and tilted his head. Whoever was lurking in the darkness meant to harm him but he was not afraid. The air was rank with death but he could also smell the lurkers' fear.
He went back to what he was doing. He growled low in his chest as he felt the other moving closer. He felt the air shift as something came toward his head. He ducked under a long sword with ease. Finally turning from his meal, blood dripping from his mouth, he saw another vampire looking at him. There was a snarl etched on his face, malice coming off him in waves. Abandoning the body in his arms with a wet thud, he turns fully around to face the unknown vampire, an insane smile on his bloody lips. As he stood the vampire jumped hoping to catch the other off guard, attacking he brought the blade down on his head with a yell. All the other man did was flick the blade away with a small movement of his finger. The vampire spun and came again. "How dare you hurt him!" the vampire shouted. The other man laughed, insanity dripping from him.
"As if you would care, you would have eaten him yourself eventually. Besides he was weak and I am strong!"
"Never! He was my brother, my twin!"
"Well I guess that makes it different. Tell me, are you hungry? It would have been you or him. It doesn't matter anymore." He said with a casual tone
"Bastard!" The vampire came at him again. Getting tired of this he waited until the vampire got close. Dodging the sword, he came up behind the vampire and shoved his hand through his stomach, blood gushing from the wound. He removed his hand with a wet squelch. Bringing his hand to his lips he began licking the blood from his hand, a satisfied sigh leaving him.
"Who are you?" the vampire gasped then coughed up blood.
"Hmm? I don't have a name or if I did I don't remember it. I believe your kind call me The Hunter or something like that." He said, like it was the most boring conversation on the planet, which to him it was.
The vampire's eyes widened, "Y-you're The Bloody Hunter?" The vampire choked out.
"Ah, so that's the name you people have given me, hmm I quite like it." The Hunter said with a malicious grin. The vampire let out a wet cough, blood spilling.
"Y-yes, they s-say you k-kill any vampire for y-your own p-personal gain. T-there are also r-rumors that you k-kill to save." The Hunter looked at him with small interest, a noncommittal grunt came from him.
"Well that's the first I've heard this, although I rarely talk to your kind, for you are just food and weak." He paused, a look of sadness crossed his face. "I'm not sure I remember why I'm here, what I'm fighting for. I remember someone in pain, saying I would cleanse the world, protect them, but I don't know their name or see their face. Were they precious to me?"
"I-I haven't h-hurt anyone. I s-swear. P-please kill m-me. With m-my brother dead, my l-life is not w-worth living." The vampire's breath was starting to shake. His life slipping away. The Hunter looked at him, a rare soft looking graced his face.
"This life is hard and unforgiving. You must be strong to survive but… life is always worth living, if you can find something to keep going. I can save you, but it's your choice and you must prove to be strong, or you will die." The Hunter said, kneeling in front of the dying vampire, waiting. The vampire looked at him with tears in his eyes, another cough racked through his body.
"I w-want to l-live."
"Very well." The Hunter bit his wrist and held it over the vampire's mouth, letting it drip a few times before moving it back and letting it heal. He watched as the man's wounds healed and smirked. The vampire gaped in shock.
"How is that possible? I..I didn't know that could happen."
"Blood is a powerful thing to vampires. I've drank enough to know. Come, but I give you a warning, don't take me lightly. If you become a burden, I will let you die." The vampire nodded. For The Hunter to save him was a miracle in itself. He would do whatever he could to make sure he didn't run behind. The vampire followed The Hunter as they left the dark building that reeked of blood and death.
~OOOOOOOOOOO~
They met like they always did on the same day every year. The day he left. It had been 7 years since he left, since he walked through the broken seal. The seal becoming whole shortly after he entered.
They all hoped he was still alive, still fighting. If some were honest they had given up hope that he would come back. Rengokuin had been trying to find a way to extract the spear for so long, he was stubborn but even he had started to lose faith. Kodachi helped when she could but most of her time was used taking care of Kei, the years were starting to wear on her. Faye and Lydi lived away so they didn't see them much. Faye had his own company and Lydi worked for him. They all missed him and they were grateful that he had sacrificed himself for them. Kodachi worried about him for she never got to tell him that she loved him. And then there was Kei. He hadn't said a word since he left and he always stared off into space.
They all sat in the park like always and caught up. It was a nice annual meeting that they all did even if it was starting to get a little old, no one wanted to admit it though. It wasn't the same without him. A nice breeze picked up, they all sat and enjoyed it. The breeze helped take some of the heat away. Something shifted and the air changed. It felt like it turned stale, it almost felt feral and deadly. They all turned to the sky. Nothing seemed to change but they all had a bad feeling, a chill crept up their spines.
The air shifted again, it became oppressive, they felt like there were stones on their chest making it hard to breathe. They turn and see two black cloaked figures walking toward them. When the figures reached the group they stopped. The smaller of the two took a step and spoke.
"Hello. We are sorry to disturb you. Could you please direct us to The Millennium Academy? We have some business to discuss with the Principal." He spoke in a soft voice but there was an edge to it. Kodachi noticed that the taller of the two had long black hair with a bright white streak. She immediately thought of Aldred. There was no way it was him. He'd been gone for so long, he wasn't coming back.
"Uh.. sure. If you continue down this path you'll get to the end and turn right. Keep going and you'll find it. Huge building, can't miss it." Faye responded, gesturing with his hand. Lydi was watching the taller of the two.
"Thank you. We appreciate your assistance." The shorter figure bowed. While the shorter one was interacting with the group the taller one observed them. Kodachi looked into the darkness of the hood and the figure turned his eyes and met her. The figure had blood red eyes and slitted pupils. They had a look of caution and boredom in them, but she saw something else, insanity. They held her in a trance that she didn't notice Faye offered to walk them as they had business with the Principal. The tall figure broke his gaze to look toward the school and without a word he turned and left. The shorter one looked to him, bowed toward the group and with a mumbled apology he ran after the tall figure.
"How strange. I wonder what business they have with the Principal." Rengokuin mumbled.
"Who knows. That guy knows some strange people anyway. Let's go." Faye said and started packing everything up, Lydi helping.
"The tall one had a strange scent. It seemed familiar but scary as well." Lydi said quietly.
"Yeah. His eyes were freaky. He's dangerous. I hope he's not a vampire that escaped." Kodachi said, looking at the two retreating figures.
~OOOOOOOOOOO~
The door to the Principal's office opened to reveal two black cloaked figures. The Principal lifted his head as they entered.
"You know it's rude not to knock before entering a room. What can I do for you?" The shorter one came up to the desk and lifted his hood. He had blonde hair that hung just past his shoulders. His eyes were a deep blue. He bowed a little before speaking.
"I'm sorry for the intrusion, my name is Shinu. Are you Kain Van Envurio?"
"Yes I am." The taller one stood to the side and was staring at the man behind the desk. Why did he seem so familiar? Had he known him? The name resonated in him but he couldn't figure out why. Images flashed in his mind but he couldn't make sense of them. He frowned. He hated not knowing things. His thought process flipped and he wondered what this man's blood tasted like.
"Wonderful. This is my friend and he would like to talk to you. From where we are from he is called the Bloody Hunter, unfortunately I am unsure what his name actually is."
"Of course. Please have a seat. May I ask that I bring some others in?" Shinu looked at his companion, receiving a nod. "We shall wait."
"Wonderful. Please make yourselves comfortable. I won't be long."
The group of friends were in the lobby talking with a faculty member. The librarian was telling them about the two strange figures that had walked in asking the way to the Principal's office. Suddenly said man popped out of nowhere.
"Why hello my friends. I've been looking for you." The group jumped.
"Principal! Did the two strangers find you?"
"Oh yes. They are waiting for us in my office." He said unconcerned.
"You left them by themselves?" Kodachi asked incredulously.
"Hmm…. Yes. Let's go." He mumbled and started walking toward his office. They others watched in stunned silence before following. Once they got to the office and opened the door they were greeted with the two figures. The tall one had his hood up still but the shorter one had revealed his face. Kodachi thought he was handsome…. To a degree. They all entered and closed the door. They kept their eyes on the tall one. He's the one that screamed dangerous. The Principal walked toward his desk and sat down. .
"This is Shinu. The tall one is known as the Bloody Hunter" Kain said, gesturing to the blonde. The blonde bowed.
"Hello. It is a pleasure to officially meet you. I'm sorry about earlier. I was unaware that you knew Mr. Van Envurio." They watched him and nodded. Kodachi and Ren kept their eye on the taller one. Said man was looking at the frail man in the wheelchair. Why keep such a weak human near them? He held no purpose. But the longer he looked at him the more he grew confused. He felt drawn to this human. He was disgusted but curious. He felt he knew him. Unknowing to the group Kei had looked up at the man and their eyes met. This human seemed brave for being so weak, he almost scoffed.
"Now, down to business. Why did you come see me?" Kain said with a devilish smirk.
"We were informed that you were a person of influence, someone we could trust. We are in need of some place to stay." Shinu said.
"Hmm… are you running from something?"
"No. We traveled far and we are new to this area. We mean no harm. I understand any reluctance on your part."
Kodachi was standing in the corner watching the tall figure. Feeling her gaze he turned and looked her right in the eye. She felt her muscles tense. He stared for a moment before he turned away uninterested in her. She still stood there stiff. 'This person, he's not normal. His eyes hold so much power. It feels like he could crush you with just his gaze. It's...frightening.' She thought and saw Faye standing fairly close to the cloaked person. Faye seemed unfazed by it.
"A very honest answer. I feel as if you are not the one asking. Your companion gives me the impression he is in charge, but decides not to speak." The tall figure looked at the Principal.
"You would be correct Mr. Van Envurio. He has tasked me with speaking with you." Shinu said almost shly.
"I wonder why. Does he not wish to speak with me himself?" Shinu looked shocked and looked at the taller man then back.
"No I don't." came a voice within the hood. Kodachi felt herself tense again. His voice was like velvet, but it held a dangerous tone to it. There was power to it.
"Oh, may I ask why?" Shinu looked pale as he looked at the Principal. Was he afraid of the tall man?
"Well you just did. But I don't feel that the answer is worth the effort." The tall man replied, his voice holding a sharp edge. Kodachi flinched, she noticed that Faye and Ren had tensed. She looked at Kei and jerked slightly. He had moved and was watching the figure with an intense look.
"You feel me beneath you." Kain said, his words a statement more than a question. The man stood silently, his lack of response seemed to make the statement true.
"Interesting. You are known as the Bloody Hunter. What an intriguing title."
"Why the Bloody Hunter?" Kodachi asked. He looked at her. She tensed again.
"I hunt and kill vampires." He said with a hint of a smile in his voice.
"I got the Hunter part, but what about the blood part?"
"You seemed smarter than that. What a stupid question." He said in a bored tone, looking away. Kodachi bristled at his comment. How dare he!
"Excuse me?" She asked, offended by not only his words but his tone. He turned to look at her once more. His red eyes showed ire and boredom. Principal Van Envurio spoke up.
"Alright enough of this. I feel that if I am going to help I should know who you are." The figure turned to look at the older man.
"I don't see how that is relevant."
"Do you go by something other than your title?"
"I do not remember my name." He said it like it was the most normal thing to say.
"Interesting. Please remove your hood." The tall man's eyes narrowed at the request. Shinu grimaced. This poor man was afraid of him.
"If you insist." He reached to pull off his hood. Kodachi watched with interest, his nails were black, their length long and pointed. She imagined they could cause some damage. Long black hair spilled across the man's back stopping mid-thigh, some braids held his hair from his face. His face was handsome. Strong cheekbones, smooth lips, pale skin, and long eyelashes. What startled everyone was his eye color. Blood red and slitted pupils. The red seemed to swirl like liquid. Just as when they saw them outside, in the middle of his face there was a long strand of hair. White as snow. Completely contrasting his black hair. He smiled, revealing long canine teeth. They all jerked at the realization that he was a vampire. They seemed longer than a normal vampire's teeth. Much longer. His smile looked feral and when he spoke he still had that velvet voice but it looked different with his smile.
"Happy?"
"Always. Now, you don't know your name. There must be something we can call you." Kain said with a sly smile.
"I call him Hunter." Shinu interjected, still looking pale.
"Hunter it is. I'd love to help, really, unfortunately I have no place for you. I can direct you to an abandoned building you can take up residency in." Hunter stared at him with a hard look.
"It will do. I'm not sure I'd know how to sleep in a comfortable space anymore." He said with a casual tone. Suddenly his gaze turned toward Kei. The friends all tensed but they saw no malice in his gaze, just confusion and a softness. Kei's gaze held almost the same softness. Hunter looked into the human's purple eyes. He knew him. A deep part of him knew it but he couldn't remember. How did he know him? Why did he feel so connected to the human? Why did the human calm his mind? Who was Hunter? He didn't know, but he wanted to know.
Thank you for reading. I appreciate it. I would also appreciate any commentary, anything you noticed that seemed funky or anything, even if you just liked and want to leave a good word.
Thanks again!
