Late.
She was always too late.
"W-who are you, you bitch!?" The decapitated head was babbling something that was probably along the lines of all the others she had killed before, "You're one of the Hashira, aren't you!? It's the only reason you could behead me!" The Oni tried to look as menacing as it could, but he was clearly terrified, "Don't bring me back there! T-the sun is rising!"
"I'm aware," Kagome murmured, untangling her scarf around her neck and wrapping the head within the cloth so he would not be exposed to the sunlight just yet, "I'm sure the ones you just terrorized want to see your demise is all."
The Oni only shrieked from within the wrappings he was bound within.
Kirara flew low to the ground as not to alert any of the Demon Slayer Corps' crows that may be in the area and Kagome tightened her grip on the sword tied to her waist, hoping she was not too late this time around.
She may not have arrived on time to simply purify this Oni before things have gotten out of hand, but she could at least fix things now that she knew one had died in this train accident.
One of her Shikigami crows had simply been in the area by coincidence.
"You should probably stay here, Kirara," Kagome patted the Nekomata's head as soon as she reached the edge of the forest and spotted a group, "We don't want a... misunderstanding. They are probably tired enough as it is."
Kirara landed, letting out a huff as Kagome jumped off her back and gave her a sympathetic smile. The twin-tailed cat watched carefully as the Miko walked out of the trees and confidentially towards the group and Kirara eyed them sharply in case they posed of any danger.
"Huh, who are you!?" Inosuke immediately pointed both his swords at the woman who simply came out the woods the same direction Akaza had fled in, "W-why didn't I sense you?!" He trembled slightly, unsure what this strange presence was now that he could see the girl.
"Don't worry," Kagome raised her hands in a peaceful manner, "I'm not here to fight. I came here to help you," She held up the cloth, "I even brought a peace offering if you will."
Tanjiro wiped the remaining tears from his pained eyes, "She's telling the truth," He wanted to stand, but he could barely move as it was, "I smell no hostility." His eyes widened as another scent hit him, "I-is that...?!"
"May I approach?" Kagome asked, seeing the imps of the underworld surrounding the male who fought and died bravely, "I am a healer. My name is Higurashi Kagome." She smiled.
"I-I've heard of that name before," Inosuke muttered, "But where?" He stared at the girl wearily as she passed him, bowing her head at him as he stiffened at the gesture.
"O-Oh, I'm Kamado Tanjiro," The boy tried to bow, but winced, "I'm sorry you have to see this, Higurashi-san..." He trailed off, barely able to look at Rengoku's body without tears forming in his eyes again.
"I'm used to such sights," Kagome shook her head, kneeling before Rengoku's body and in his blood without hesitation, "Now, perhaps you should see what you have done before you fade away?" She unwrapped the scarf, grabbing the Oni by his hair and holding him up while ignoring Tanjiro and Inosuke's gasps, "The human you killed will be standing in the end."
"YOU FUCKING BITCH!" Akaza was screaming as the sun began to scorch what was left of him, "WHO ARE YOU!? YOU WON'T BE LONG FOR THIS WORLD! MUZAN-SAMA WILL FIND YOU!" His eyes rolled forward, "KYOUJUROU!"
Akaza was no more.
"Higurashi-san, d-did you..." Tanjiro swallowed thickly, "Did you...?" He could not even finish his sentence as he gaped at the seemingly dainty female before him.
"Call me Kagome, please," The Miko waved off, "You shouldn't move anymore. I'll heal you as soon as I'm finished with... Kyoujurou did that Oni call you?" Kagome stared at the Flame Hashira intently, "This may look strange, but don't move," She warned the two before she stood, drawing the blade from her side and holding it tightly, "Tenseiga, I call upon thee."
What a bright soul this Kyoujirou had, even in death.
"Wha–?" Tanjiro cried out as Kagome slashed down upon Rengoku's body, though to his surprise, nothing was cut and Kagome was already sheathing the blade, "Kagome-san...? What did you do?" He asked hesitantly.
Kagome knelt again and smiled widely when both Tanjiro and Inosuke screamed in shock and surprise as Rengoku's body twitched and slowly straightened before he opened his eyes, blinking at the unfamiliar face beaming at him.
"Welcome back, Kyoujurou."
