A/N: this story is a crossover between LoK/ATLA and FMAB. Slight AU on the Avatar side, It's set in the timeframe of Korra's life, but instead, my OC is the Avatar. She's more connected to the spiritual side of things than Korra was, so she's aware of Harmonic Convergence much earlier than Korra was. Also the spirit portals in the poles are open, not closed as they were in LoK. And the reincarnation cycle is messed up, because I wanted a fire-bender Avatar, so thats AU as well. I'll try to upload at least one chapter per week. The chapters start out short but they get longer as the story progresses. This is my first attempt at a fanfic, I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1

A large wave of cold, icy water loomed over her, threating to crash down and send her reeling. Lifting her arms, Ayana bent the water to her will. She split the wave around her and brought it back around, spinning her body and thrusting her arms forward to send the liquid back towards her adversary.

It was a large dark spirit, it's body akin in shape to a kraken. It was thrashing with anger as it roared from the water's impact. She'd tried calming it multiple times already by cleansing the darkness to allow the spirit to return to light. But each time, the darkness had reclaimed it before she could completely dispel it. This had been happening more and more frequently; more spirits were rampaged by the darkness with each passing day. It was all Ayana could do to keep up with it now. And to make things worse, it seemed like it was getting increasingly difficult to dispel the darkness in them. She had a theory on the reasons behind these events. Harmonic Convergence was approaching, the 10,000 year cycle in which the cosmos would align and the amplified spiritual energy would merge the spirit portals. She theorized the increasing number of negative spirits was due to Vaatu, the spirit of darkness and chaos, slowly getting stronger. As the day of Harmonic Convergence drew closer, his strength would only continue to increase. There was still around a year until the day of Harmonic Convergence. If things were this bad now, she didn't want to imagine how much worse it was going to get.

The spirit raised its tentacles, drawing her attention back to the present, and smashed down towards her. With a quick blast of air she dodged, leaping from the iceberg she'd been standing on and bending the water beneath her into a whirlpool around her legs. She held her body a few feet above the waters surface. She punched the air, sending a few fireballs towards the tentacles as they reached out to grab her. The spirit whirled backwards in fury. With a moment's respite from the attacks, Ayana again tried to calm it by bending the water to surround the spirit in smooth, flowing circles. Light energy began to spread down the it's body, but quickly disappeared as the creature roared again and broke the bent water with a swipe. Caught off guard, Ayana attempted to dodge again but this time she wasn't quick enough. The spirit's tentacle wrapped itself around her torso, pinning her arms to her sides. She squirmed, trying to break free. The spirit squeezed tighter, and she found it difficult to breathe. As a last-ditch effort, Ayana took a deep breath and breathed a stream of fire at the spirit. She bent the element around the tentacle in an attempt to cause it to release its hold. The spirit screamed in pain but did not let go. It curved its body into an arch, and Ayana realized what was happening just in time to take a deep breath. The spirit dived, dragged her underwater and propelling itself down into the depths of the ocean. It swam with amazing speed, down, down, down….

Ayana's lungs were burning, and the water turned darker and darker as the sun tried unsuccessfully to penetrate down to this depth. Her eardrums were screaming in pain, her head was pounding, her vision tunneling. Her lungs ached, but she knew she had to keep holding her breath, as long as possible….

As she was dragged deeper and deeper, her senses went numb and she knew no more.
