I leaned over the candle, on FaceTime with my best friend Reiko.

"Ugh another love charm?" Reiko sighed. "They never work. I don't think they're meant for fictional characters."

"Just do it with me," I snapped, carving 'Kuri' and 'Zuko' into the candle.

"I don't think Aang's spirit would be attracted by a candle." Reiko pointed out. "He's an Airbender."

I grinned. "Open the box I sent you."

Reiko opened to find a bowl with the scents of things Aang prized during the show, including the smell of each of the elements, and the smell of Appa and Momo (that was hard to pinpoint). Mostly though, it smelled clean like air and was filled with feathers with names tied to them: Reiko and Aang.

"Go outside next." I said.

We both went out onto our terraces. The wind blew on Reiko's bowl and made my candle sputter.

"Just leave them outside." I finished setting my candle in fireproof bowl so it would just sputter out. "Let the wind blow away all the feathers, and the flame burn out the candle. When it is all gone, they should appear.

Reiko just laughed. "This is silly."

I hung up the phone and went to my room.

I lay on the bed sketching on my tablet, finishing a drawing of me and Zuko. Completely dissatisfied with the way my character turned out, I fell against the bed.

I must have fallen asleep, but when I woke, something was bright in my room. Fire? FIRE!

I groggily got to my feet and went to douse the flames coming from my closet, but a man stepped out of the closet and the flames died.

"Where the hell am I?" Zuko said in a grumpy voice.

I bowed quickly, trying to remember Fire Nation customs. "You're in my room, Zuko. This is a different world from yours. My name is Kuri."

Zuko looked around and seemed to agree that this world was not his own. "So how do you know who I am if this is another world."

I paused, not sure how to answer. "In this world you are part of a story."

"Hmph." Zuko said, annoyed. "Am I at least popular?"

"Yes!" I beamed finally able to give him good news. "Most popular character. Especially due to your change of heart in the end."

Now he looked a little bit embarrassed. "You saw all that? Even the…bad parts?"

I was quiet for a little while. "I didn't like you at the beginning. Then I started warming up to you as I understood you a little bit better. You went through a lot. I can…understand that very well."

"What, do you have a psychotic Dad and Sister?"

"No." I admitted. "But I had someone very close to me attack me for no reason, and like you, I had to keep going and pretend it didn't happen. I didn't want to be killed, but I didn't want to lose her either. I didn't want to be alone."

After my confession, Zuko looked in my eyes and smiled a little. "Ok. Well, is there any food?"

I smiled. "I brought some in here just in case."

I pulled out a box of Japanese style food like soba and takoyaki, remembering that Fire Nation was mostly Japanese. I included buns and onigiri.

Zuko ate a lot of the food then lay back on the bed.

"Uh…" I said uncertainly. I hadn't thought about this part. "That's my bed."

"Got another place I can sleep?" Zuko chuckled at my blank face. "Then I guess we share. There's no room on that floor."

Looking at my tiny room in despair, I lay on the bed as well, switching off the light.

The last thing I felt before I fell asleep was Zuko's fingers catching mine in a fierce handhold.
