[Excerpt from the letter given to Pope Clement XII by Cardinal Troiano Acquaviva d'Aragona, 1734]

… It is with a heavy heart that I must write to Your Holiness about the rumours that have spread from the Balkans. Tales of a devilish beast, wearing the facade of a man, who, by playing with the demonic knowledge of mages, has established himself as one of the heretical lords.

It is an unfortunate truth that nothing is known to us about this most wicked of sinners. Be it his name, his place of birth, or when he won his vile powers, he remains an enigma.

It is but the opinion of this humble servant of God that we mortals cannot oppose such a being. Only his fellow heretical lords, Our Heavenly Father's angels, and the taboo pagan gods can stand against him.

These are dark times and I fear that they will only grow darker. It has been more than fifty years since the practitioners of Satan's filthy arts have sequestered themselves in places unknown to us. And now, a new heretical lord has appeared to aggreive the faithful …

[Excerpts from The Demon Kings, written by the 19th Century Italian mage, Alberto Richardo]

… to those who have, by some great miracle, accomplished this most formidable feat, I grant unto you the title of Campione - God Slayer - Supreme King.

To the ill-informed reader the weight placed upon such a title may appear overly-exaggerated. They will hear tales of the Campiones' awe inspiring power and rightly come to the conclusion that such feats would be impossible for a mortal mage. That no human could freely wield divine might comparable to that of the Heretic Gods.

However, I must emphasize once more, a Campione is not human.

Campione - the God Slayer - is the supreme ruler.

Since they can kill a celestial being, they can call upon the most hallowed powers held by the divine.

Campione - the God Slayer - is a lord.

Since they hold the power to kill a deity in their hands, they therefore hold dominion over all mortals that live upon the earth.

Campione - the God Slayer - is a devil.

Wielding the absolute might of their Authorities, there exists no mortal with the power to oppose them.

[Summary of the Witenagemot's report about the seventh king, Harry James Potter, who ascended to the rank of Campione in the Spring of 1996. Published 15 May, 1996]

Harry James Potter was born to James Potter and Lily Potter née Evans on 31 July, 1980. In the late hours of Halloween night, 1981, his parents were murdered by the dark lord who styles himself, Lord *********. Through an unknown series of events the dark lord was defeated and the seventh king survived the Killing Curse, a dark magic long believed to kill any mortal it is used against. It was this series of events that would grant His Majesty the epithet, The-Boy-Who-Lived, which he would carry until his ascension into kingship.

His Majesty spent his earliest years living with his Muggle relatives, only learning about the existence of magic, and the magical community, on his eleventh birthday. He then attended four years of schooling at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry before being expelled by order of the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, and the British legal body, the Wizengamot (although, this expulsion is currently under review with the possibility of being repealed by the Department of Magical Education). Notable achievements prior to his ascension include a victory in the Triwizard Tournament of 1994-95 which ended with the tragic death of another participant, Cedric Diggory.

Claims were then made by His Majesty and Albus Dumbledore, the then headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, that the dark lord, *********, had returned and was responsible for the death of Cedric Diggory. Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, refuted these claims and embarked on a propaganda campaign, largely aided by The Daily Prophet newspaper, to discredit the seventh king and Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore.

Going forward, the events which led to the ascension of the seventh king become confused, heavily marred by secrecy and misinformation. What is known is that on 12 August, 1995, His Majesty was officially charged by the Wizengamot, with the crimes of: breaking the Statute of Secrecy, multiple counts of underage magic, three counts of assault on an auror, and one count of murdering a muggle. A warrant was thus put out for his immediate arrest.

(Following the seventh king's ascension, the charges that were laid against him were dropped and a new investigation into the events that took place in Little Whinging was opened by Amelia Bones, the head of the British Department of Magical Law Enforcement.)

In the wake of these charges, His Majesty is believed to have gone into hiding. However, where he went, and with whose aid he did so, is currently unknown. There are those who, by matter of circumstance, appear to be likely accomplices in keeping the king hidden during this time of legal turmoil. The most likely of which being 'The Order of the Phoenix,' a secretive magical society led by Albus Dumbledore for the purposes of defeating the dark lord, *********.

The seventh king would not resurface again until his battle with Verethragna on 27 April, 1996.

Verethragna is the Indo-Iranian warrior god who personifies the concept of "victory" and is known as one who "gives victory." Despite being a warrior god, Verethragna is not only associated with feats of might and victory in battle, but also victory in other areas, like, for example, speech and sexual prowess. He can thus be thought of as a god whose dominion is "victory in all things." In Zoroastrian texts, Verethragna appears as an agent of Mithra and Rashnu in his capacity as a war god. In the Bahram Yasht Verethragna is described as possessing ten forms in which the deity appears: An impetuous wind, an armed warrior, a youth of fifteen, a bull with horns of gold, a white horse with ears and a muzzle of gold, a camel in heat, a boar, a bird of prey, a ram, and a wild goat.

It was in Sardinia where the Heretic Gods, Verethragna and Melqart, descended. Thus a battle between the two deities ensued. It is unknown what drove the seventh king to involve himself in a clash between two gods. Regardless, His Majesty entered battle against Verethragna and defeated him. However, the means by which the seventh king snatched victory away from the invincible war god are a closely guarded secret, known only by a select group of trusted confidants.

It was not long after the battle that His Majesty's kingship was confirmed by Albus Dumbledore, the former headmaster for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; Paolo Blandelli, the commander-in-chief of the Copper-Black Cross; and Babajibe Akingbade, the Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards.

It must be noted that, although young and inexperienced compared to his peers, His Majesty is, without question, a Campione. An almighty lord whose power and authority eclipses the likes of us fragile mortals.

And thus, 1996 will be marked in the annals of history as the year in which the seventh king, Harry James Potter, became a God Slayer.

Notes:

There are a few things that I want to mention before we get started.

First, the story will begin with Act 1, at the start of Order of the Phoenix and follow the events that led to Harry becoming a Campione. Act 2 will be when we start to see Harry as a Campione.

Second, this story will contain Harem elements.

Third, Godou won't be appearing in this story as Harry is essentially replacing him.

Lastly, I will be making some changes to the Harry Potter magic system so that it will mesh with the Campione magic system and make things more balanced. For example, I will be making it so that the Imperius and Killing Curses aren't so overpowered (I honestly hate how the killing curse was handled in the books and if you want to know why, Uniquenameosaurus made a good Youtube video about this topic). So if you notice that the Harry Potter magic system seems a little different, that is why (honestly, I just like hard magic systems better than soft magic systems). I also think it would be fun to explore the rules, applications and lore of magic in ways that I think would fit within the Harry Potter world as it would exist in this story.

I will also make some minor changes to Verethragna's Authority. It won't be anything major and Ten Incarnations will be relatively the same as it was in canon, just with some small adjustments.

And with that, please enjoy!
