I was sitting there crosslegged on my balcony, reading the latest Fullmetal Edition, when a pocketwatch conked me in the head.
Yes. A pocketwatch.
It landed in my lap. I rubbed my head as I examined it. It had popped open. There, unmistakable, wast the words of remembrance Ed had carved into his watch.
"WHOA!"
Suddenly the face of the watch glowed, and out tumbled, barely able to fit in my balcony, Edward and Alphonse Elric.
The first thing Ed did was grab the watch and close it quickly. "Looks like this isn't it, Al. But we should still look around just in case, right?"
"Yeah brother. I mean we won't know this isn't it until we look around." Al said, echoey for a suit of armor.
"Um." I waved to get their attention, annoyed they hadn't even noticed me. "Yo. Ed and Al. I'm right here, Y'know. So what are you looking for?"
"It looks like it happened again." Ed said conspiratorially to Alphonse.
"Yes. She seems to know us like the others did, brother."
"OI! I'm RIGHT HERE!" I yelled. "If I don't get answers, I'm tossing you both off the balcony."
It was the first floor, and I could only lift the empty suit of armor, not Ed (if I was lucky, that metal thing probably weighed a ton!), but I looked fierce anyway.
"Ok ok we're sorry." Ed apologized quickly, not sounding at all contrite. "We've just been through several, er, stops already. People generally know who we are somehow. But we still haven't found what we're looking for."
"Well, the Philosopher's Stone doesn't exist here."
"No no we're over that." Ed made a swishing motion.
"We're looking for Nina." Al spoke up at last, words sending a chill down my spine.
I put a hand to my heart and closed my eyes, the image of my daughter fresh in my mind. My Nina, being shredded to pieces by the monstrous demon that was Envy.
"Whoa!" Ed waved his hands around emphatically, gesturing for Al to come.
I inwardly groaned. They'd found it.
As Al passed through the doorway, he regained human form. Aw damn, I couldn't explain now!
Ed looked at his arm, surprised, but then looked at Al and gasped in shock.
I groaned. "Welcome to the Order of the Lotis."
