It was odd.
And a little bit charming to witness as well.
"Kirara has taken to you quite well," Kagome remarked as they made their way to the Rengoku residence, which was not all that too far from the Butterfly Mansion, "She really isn't too... friendly with anyone new."
"Is that so?" Rengoku glanced at the Nekomata perched on his shoulder, half-hidden by his hair and he smiled when he heard the chirp-like mew in response from said Nekomata, "You said earlier that she has control over fire? Perhaps she can sense my own flame?" He nodded when Kirara's tails twitched, "I would very much like to see your flames soon, Kirara."
Kagome smiled, happy enough that Kirara was not going to be indifferent to their new companion for the foreseeing future and she looked up, spotting a young male whose resemblance to Rengoku was simply uncanny.
"Yes, we are here, Kagome-san," Rengoku noticed that Kagome had stopped and his expression softened, seeing the boy slowly sweeping the entrance to their residence with shaky hands, "Senjurou! I have returned home!"
The boy jumped, dropping his broom as he looked upwards with a start, "A-Ani!?" Senjurou stammered, "Ani, is that really you!?"
"Yes, it is me," Rengoku answered, seeing that Senjurou had paled and looked as if he were staring at a ghost, "I know it must be difficult to believe, but it is really–"
"Ani!" Senjurou slammed forward into Rengoku's middle, wrapping his arms tightly around his brother, "I didn't know what to believe! W-we were getting mixed messages saying that you had... had died fighting, but you were also still alive!"
"I am here, Senjurou," Rengoku hugged his younger brother, hearing him sniffle into his uniform, "There isn't a need to worry anymore."
"So you're back, boy?"
The brothers and Kagome all looked up when a voice called out in a slur and the latter narrowed her eyes at the slovenly man who stumbled out of the residence and was clearly Kyoujurou and Senjurou's father.
"Chichi-ue, it is good to see you," Rengoku's proceeding smile was light as he released Senjurou, "I apologize for the mixed messaging. I will ensure it does not happen again."
"Don't bother, you worthless son!" The man growled, waving a jug of sake around, "A hack with no talent like you got away with just luck this time around! Next time you–!?"
"You're noisy."
Three pairs of eyes widened as a splash of water stopped the raging man before he could go any longer on his offensive rant.
Kagome dropped her canteen, watching with cold eyes as water dripped from Shinjurou's shocked face as a sweet, but dangerous smile appeared on her pretty face, "Maybe you should sober up before you speak? Or better yet, don't speak at all if you're just going to continue on with your awful words."
"Kagome-san," Rengoku glanced from the spot she had been standing in to the one she was now, 'I... did not see her move,' He thought, 'Even Chichi-ue looks surprised.'
"Who the hell are you!?" Shinjurou wiped his face of the water, glaring at the little girl who had dared to assault him in his own home, "You think you can just come in here and–" He almost took a step back when Kagome narrowed her now icy eyes at him.
"Yes," Kagome interrupted softly, "I do. Continue on with that poor attitude..." Her hand unconsciously reached for her waist where her sword was, "I'll show you why I think I can do just that."
Easy enough.
