"Much that once was is lost. For none now live who remember it..."
"It began, with the forging of the great rings
Three were given to the Elves; immortals; wisest and fairest of all beings.
Seven to the Dwarf-lords, great miners and craftmens of the mountain halls.
And nine; nine rings were gifted to the race of Men, who above all desired power. »
"For within these rings was bound the strength and the will to gouvern each race. »
"But they were all of them deceived, for another Ring was made. »
"In the lands of Mordor, in the fire of the Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron, forged in secret a Master Ring to control all others.
And into this ring, he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all lifes. »
"One Ring to rule them all. »
"One by one, the free lands of Middle-earth fell under the power of the Ring."
But there were some who resisted.
A last alliance of Men and Elves marched against the armies of Mordor, and on the slopes of Mount Doom they fought for the freedom of Middle-earth. »
"Tangado hai! a tall elf surrounded by thousands of others shouted, commanding the bows to be cocked as legions of hideous, heavily armed creatures stalked them.
About twenty meters from them he ordered to shoot . "Leithio i philinn! »
The arrows hissed near his ear and went to strike the Orcs of Mordor thus killing several dozen of them who were in the front line. But when one orc fell, two took its place and the orc army continued its advance.
Gathering all the grace of the elves, they swung their swords slaying the orcs unconscious enough to approach them first. Then chaos ensued, the archers men and elves fired their arrows against those of Mordor. Swords clashed, spears pierced their foes, and blood flowed to both sides. All the creatures of Middle-earth were present in battle, animals, eagles, even an army of dwarves from Moria sent by Durin IV were present to support the Last Alliance. The army assembled there was said to have been finer and more splendid in arms than any since seen in Middle-earth, and none greater had been assembled since the army of the Valars opposed to Thangorodrim. This war had already been going on for twelve long years, with the Black Gate managing to lay siege to the army and keep it out of the black land for five years proving its effectiveness.
Then the siege of Barad-Dur began and after seven years where many lives were lost, the last armies of the dark tower went out for the final battle, the one that will decide the fate of the world. After a long battle, the orc armies began to lose ground, their numbers dwindling. King Elendil raises his sword to the sky in victory. Hope made its way through hearts.
"Victory was near"
Then they felt a dark presence on the battlefield
"But the power of the Ring could not be undone..."
The men and elf soldiers turned as heavy footsteps were heard. The remaining orcs retreating away from their enemies knowing their fight was over and their master would win for them.
A being in black armor stepped onto the battlefield holding a dark mace full of spikes and the One Ring gleaming in his right hand. He towered over enemy soldiers with his large size, inspiring them with paralyzing fear. And without more ceremony he began the massacre.
He flew his weapon sending dozens of them flying through the air. Arrows couldn't penetrate his armor, swords couldn't reach him, and shields shattered under his destructive blows.
The elven king Gil-galad brandished his spear Aeglos and joined the fight against Sauron accompanied by king Elendil and his son Isildur.
"If you can, aim for his hand, his power comes from the ring, if we take it from him, we will win this war" Gil-galad told them with mixed confidence, knowing that beating an Ainur was a near impossible task. But they had no choice. They had to win.
Sauron slowly turned to the kings after killing another group of elves and waited for them to engage in combat. All departed leaving the place to the warlords because the battle would decide the fate of this war. It was a battle worthy of legends, Gil-galad and King Elendil fighting the Great Deceiver side by side on the flanks of Orodruin.
The elven king narrowly dodged Sauron's mace which hit the ground hard, seeing the opportunity, he jumped on the ground planted mace and swung Aeglos to his opponent's right side. Sauron raised his arm and the blade caught on his armored wrist, the sound of metal echoing through the air. Sauron let go of his mace, grabbed Gil-galad by the right arm and threw it at Elendil who was about to attack. The shock sent them rolling to the ground and stunned them both.
Sauron without stopping, picked up the fallen Aeglos and threw it at Gil-galad who, coming out of a trance, dodged too late and the blade cut his leg deeply. He cried out in pain. And after a few moments he got up even if the pain was great and the fatigue of several hours of combat weighing on his body. But his people were counting on him to achieve victory and he would not disappoint them. Elendil on his side recovered from the shock too and went to help his elf ally.
"ah..aaah..thank you" he managed to say breathlessly as he stood on the shoulder of the king of men.
"You will thank me later, we still have a battle to win" Elendil said, also out of breath from the fight.
" Elf" Sauron suddenly spoke, drawing their attention to him.
" I have a request for you." He pointed to Gil-galad.
Intrigued, the wounded king spoke, unsure of what to expect. "And what would that request be?" »
" When I kill you… Tell this to the Valar: I have not forgotten them "
At that moment, Gil-galad and Elendil both grasped the gravity of the situation. It was no longer a fight for the fate of Middle-earth, but a fight for the fate of Arda.
Elendil began to speak, hesitation in his voice.
"You..you wouldn't dare… You wouldn't dare attack the Undying Lands, much less the Valar"
But instead of responding, thinking actions spoke louder than words, the Dark Lord raised the Ring to the sky, a cloud of ash rumbled overhead, the lightning striking the area around him and finally he brought the Ring down on them. A beam of fire shot out and was about to engulf them both, the heat of the attack was overwhelming, destroying everything in its path.
There was no escaping this attack, at least not both of them. Then Gil-galad, in a last effort pushed Elendil out of the way of the attack, the blow hitting him full force. The elf king felt the fire burn his skin but he didn't hurt, he was at peace, his last thought was for his uncle Finrod Felagus who, like him, sacrificed himself to save a mortal from Sauron.
And so, King Gil-galad vanished, his fëa flying to the halls of Mandos. The ever-present elves bowed their heads to pay homage to their king.
Elendil looked regretfully at the place where Gil-galad had rescued him. He got up and turned to Sauron who was picking up his weapon as if everything was normal. Holding his sword Narsil, he returned to fight with his enemy, as the battle was far from over.
"Sauron shattered all hope of victory by slaying King Gil-galad and King Elendil both having fought him to the end"
"Isildur son of the king, in an act of desperation, took up his father's sword which Sauron broke to pieces"
"Isildur had the one chance to destroy evil forever because the enemy exposed his weak point to him, but alas he failed. Sauron narrowly dodged an attack that could have changed everything and slew Isildur. The line of kings of Numenor died that day."
"Sauron, the enemy of the free peoples of Middle-earth, has won. »
"He continued his conquest of dominance and some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. »
"One hundred years after his victory, Sauron covered Middle-earth with a thick black cloud blocking Valinor's view of those lands. »
"And for nearly three thousand years no one heard of what happened after the great battle in Middle-earth. Even the Valar became blind to Sauron's doings."
"That was where doubt gnawed at them, for Gil-galad had warned them that Sauron would not leave them in peace"
"The story of Middle-earth became legend. »
"legend became myth"
"That cloud in the East engendered a murmur, a whispers of a nameless fear. »
"And one fateful day, Sauron knew that his time had finally come. »
"The hour is approaching when Sauron will shape the fortunes of all. »
OK Chapter 2 finished.
- I made it simple to summarize the events, I took over Galadriel's speech and I changed the last parts.
So you will understand, this story is a What if? Where Sauron won. I will explain in more detail the events that take place during the 3000 years later in the next chapters but I think I will pick up on Sauron where we left off in chap 1.
Well bye. May the second breakfast be with you forever.
