The two teleported to Kakariko village, hoping Impa could give them some advice. Walking up the steps to her home, they found Paya scrubbing the floor outside.

"Hey Paya!" Zelda called out. The girl smiled back.

"Hey Zelda! Um, hi, Link." Link let out a chuckle. He knew Paya had feelings for him, but they weren't reciprocated. He actually felt a little guilty, but Impa had assured him before that it was alright. They pushed open the door to find her sitting in her usual spot.

"Ah, Link, Zelda, welcome. How can I help you today?" She asked.

"We were wondering if you could tell us something. Have you heard of the legend of the Skyward Sword?" Zelda explained. Impa's eyes widened at the name.

"Where did you hear of that?" Impa whispered in response.

"I found an old book about it in the library. And, I was wondering if you could tell us more." Impa hesitated before responding.

"...Very well. After all, it's something the two of you would do well to know. Now, take a seat, for this could take a while." They obliged, sitting on pillows in front of Impa. "Thousands of years ago, long before the Sheikah became as advanced as they were ten thousand years ago, there was a civilization that lived in the sky. It was known as Skyloft, and it was truly amazing. Its people rode on large birds known as Loftwings, and everyone had a specific Loftwing that had chosen them.

"One day, a young boy named Link was riding with his childhood friend Zelda when disaster struck. A tornado knocked them both from the Loftwing they were riding. The Loftwing managed to rescue Link, but Zelda fell beneath the clouds. When Link woke up, he found a mysterious figure in front of him. Following the figure, he ended up inside of a large stature of the goddess, who was said to watch over Skyloft. Inside, he found a sword, known as the Goddess Sword. The figure revealed herself as Fi, an entity designed by the goddess to assist her master in his quest to vanquish Demise. In fact, she was the spirit of the sword, and thus resided in its blade. Link, with the sword in hand, travelled to the surface.

"After searching for a long time, Link was finally able to find Zelda in the past. There she explained that she was actually the human incarnation of the goddess, and she had to go into a deep sleep to keep Demise sealed. Link returned to his present time, and endured even more trials until he was able to obtain the Triforce. Using its power, he vanquished Demise once and for all, allowing Zelda to wake from her slumber."

"But that's not where the story ends, is it?" Zelda asked. Impa shook her head.

"No, it is not. For you see, Fi was not the only one of her kind. There was another, known as the demon lord Ghirahim, a being forged from Demise's blade with the sole purpose of reviving Demise. He kidnapped Zelda and returned to the past, performing a ritual to revive his master. Unfortunately, Link was too late to stop him, and the ritual was successful. Demise, the demon king, had been revived, and was ready to destroy the world. Link, however, confronted Demise, and managed to defeat him. But it wasn't an entirely happy ending. Just before he died, Demise cursed the bloodlines of Link and Zelda, saying that an incarnation of him would always follow their descendants, and that they would never know peace." No one said anything, before Zelda finally spoke.

"So, Calamity Ganon is a reincarnation of Demise? And all of our ancestors have had to fight some form of Ganon?"

"Yes, though none of them were as powerful as the Calamity. However, your ancestor's power is still present. You, Zelda, obviously carry the blood of the goddess. Link, meanwhile, wields the same sword as his ancestors."

"Wait...you mean...?"

"Yes. That sword is the exact same one the original Link wielded all of those years ago. During his trials, the sword became stronger, eventually becoming known as the Master Sword. Your Hyrulian Shield, as a matter of fact, was also wielded by that Link."

"You mentioned earlier that Fi was the spirit of the sword. Does that mean that she is still in the sword?"

"Yes, that is exactly the case. After Link completed his mission, Fi entered an eternal slumber within the sword. In fact, I believe you heard her voice on the day of the Calamity." Zelda nodded, she remembered far too well. "Now, why exactly did you want to know about that legend?" Zelda hesitated before answering.

"We were wondering if, maybe, we could stop the curse. What if we were able to go back to that day and stop Demise from uttering the curse?" Impa thought for a moment.

"As a matter of fact, it is possible. I wasn't going to give this to you just yet, but I guess now is as good a time as any. Paya!" She called, resulting in the girl running in."

"What do you need?" She asked. Impa beckoned her over and whispered in the girl's ear. She nodded, running off to retrieve something. A few minutes later, she returned with a small, egg-shaped guardian in her hands. Link started to draw his sword, but was stopped by a look from Impa. Zelda's eyes widened.

"Is that...?" She whispered. Impa nodded as Zelda took the guardian from Paya. Almost immediately, its eye lit up in a bright blue. It started playing a tune, almost like a lullaby, and Zelda started to tear up. "Terrako...how did you find him?" She asked, returning her attention to Impa.

"On the day of the Calamity, the King ordered everyone to evacuate the castle. I, however, ran to your room to rescue some of your valuables in the hope that you would prevail over Calamity Ganon. I knew that little guardian was of great value to you, so I made sure to save it. Sadly, it was all could carry."

"Oh, don't blame yourself. It's so good to see them again." Suddenly, Link cleared his throat, clearly asking for an explanation. "Oh! Sorry, Link. This used to belong to my mother. She would use the song it just played to put me to sleep every night. But, I don't understand how he'll help us stop Demise's curse..."

"Terrako is a special type of guardian. He has the ability to travel between timelines, but he can only go back 100 years, and that wouldn't change this timeline," Impa explained.

"Timelines? Are you saying...?"

"That's a story for another time. The point is, Terrako will need some modifications before he can take you back to the time of Skyloft. And for that, you'll need to find a Time Stone."

"A Time Stone?" Zelda asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes. Ancient stones that have the power to manipulate time itself. They haven't been seen in years, but I just happen to know where some are. Deep under the Temple of Time, there is a cavern that contains several stones. The entrance is sealed, but Terrako can open it for you." The guardian let out a whistle, affirming Impa's claim. "That's all I can tell you. Once you get a stone, take it and the guardian to Purah. She should be able to upgrade him."

"Thank you, Impa. We'll be back soon. Let's go, Link." They started to leave before Impa stopped them.

"Actually, I want to speak to Link for a moment."

"Oh, okay then. I'll wait outside, Link." Zelda left, leaving Link and Impa alone.

"Link, I feel a need to warn you about this journey that you are about to embark upon. Records of what happened back then are scarce, so I have no clue what will happen. You need to be ready for anything. Can you promise me that?" He nodded, and Impa let out a sigh. "Alright then, you can go now. Good luck to both of you." He stepped outside, where Zelda was eagerly waiting for him. She smiled as soon as she noticed him.

"Alright, Link! To the Temple of Time!"

Author's note: Sorry this took so long! I got distracted with irl things, and this chapter ended up being way longer than I expected. Hopefully the next one won't take as long. See you then!
