Chapter 3: Memories of Home

Timeline: Season 1.

Alex had been dreaming. The same nightmares since she was little. She sighed. They were at a motel. Sammy had a vision. About their home. Now. They had to go back.

Alex sat outside smoking.

"Those things will kill you." Dean commented, drinking from a flask.

"Hypocrite." She uttered

"You too huh." Dean asked her

She licked her lips. "I still remember that night Dean."

Dean froze. She never gave full details of what happened that night. She refused to tell anyone. Not even their Dad.

She exhaled her smoke.

"Mom told me. Before she died. I was protected by god and didn't need to be afraid of anything." She snorted
"Can you believe that?"

"Alex-"

"Dean. What we are dealing with goes beyond. What we normally deal with. And as long as dad keeps pursing it. He's going to get himself killed."

"Despite what that stupid bastard says about me. Everything I do. Is for you two." She looked at Dean.
"I hope you know that."

Dean made a face. "Of course I do. You always took care of Sam and me." "But Alex." "When you left." "It was hell."

She froze.

"Sam and dad fought really bad. Especially when he went to college. Sam blamed him a lot for you leaving." Dean looked like he wanted to cry. "And when Sam left. You BOTH left me."

Her face softened and hugged him. "I'm so sorry Dean."

"Don't leave us again. Please." He begged.

"I won't, okay?" "Dean you try to live up to Dad's expectations. But you don't need to try to be him okay?"
"You're a better man than he is."

"I tried calling dad…" he admitted

"When?" Alex asked

"When we were at the gas station."

Dean looked dejected.

"I'm sorry Dean."

"Should mean something if you were willing to show up despite hating him and he won't at all." Dean laughed.

She touched his arm.

"So. What were you doing all this time anyway?" Dean asked
"I tried to find you but I got nothing."

"I told you. I wasn't sitting on my ass doing nothing. I was learning skills, and tracking the thing that killed mom."

"Yeah. Some kung fu moves there." Dean said

She held up a peace sign, "Black belt." "Three martial arts."

Dean whistled. "Deadly weapons." He teased

Alex laughed. "I did miss you Dean."

He smiled. "Thanks Alex. I missed you too."

They visited a psychic Missouri Mosely

"All right, there. Don't you worry 'bout a thing. Your wife is crazy about you. [The man thanks her and she closes the front door behind him.] Whew. Poor bastard. His woman is cold-bangin' the gardener." She shook her head.

"Why didn't you tell him?" Dean asked

" People don't come here for the truth. They come for good news. Well? Sam and Dean, Alex. come on already, I ain't got all day. [She leaves the room. DEAN and SAM exchange a confused look and follow her into the next room. Well, lemme look at ya. She laughs. Oh, you boys grew up handsome. She looks at Alex. You look like your mother Alex. But you sure got your daddy's temper. Whew girl."
She points a finger at DEAN. And you were one goofy-lookin' kid, too. DEAN glares at her while SAM smirks. Sam. She grabs his hand. Oh, honey…I'm sorry about your girlfriend. The boys are shocked. And your father –- he's missin'?"

"How'd you know all that?" Sam asked

"Well, you were just thinkin' it just now." She said she looks at Alex. "You have gifts too don't you child? Same as me."

"Mostly just sensing stuff." She said

"Mhhmm. Oh you have a lot more than that honey. But all in due time I suppose."

Sam and Alex looked at each other. She shrugged.

"Do you know where he is?" Dean asked

"Boy, you see me sawin' some bony tramp in half? You think I'm a magician? I may be able to read thoughts and sense energies in a room, but I can't just pull facts out of thin air. Sit, please. SAM smirks at DEAN and they sit down. Alex sits next to Dean. MISSOURI snaps at DEAN. Boy, you put your foot on my coffee table, I'm 'a whack you with a spoon!"

Alex smacked Dean upside the head. "Manners Dean."

"I didn't do anything." Dean said

"But you were thinkin' about it." Said Missouri DEAN raises his eyebrows. SAM smiles. She looks at Alex. "Bless Your heart for raising these two boys. I am sure they were a handful."
Alex laughed. "Yes ma'am."

"Okay. So, our dad –- when did you first meet him?" Sam asked

"He came for a reading. A few days after the fire. I just told him what was really out there in the dark. I guess you could say…I drew back the curtains for him." said Missouri

"What about the fire? Do you know about what killed our mom?"

Missouri looked at Alex. "Baby girl. You need to tell them everything. You can't keep it bottled up forever."

Alex gritted her teeth.

"I know you think you're protecting them honey, but you're hurting yourself and it's been eating at you." Missouri said softly.

Sam and Dean looked at her. "You know what killed mom?" Dean asked her

Alex sighed. She nodded.

"Oh baby more than that. It spoke to her that night." Missouri said sadly

"Shit. Alex." Dean said "Why didn't you ever say anything."

Missouri squeezed Alex's hand. "Please. Don't make me say it." Alex begged her

"Baby girl you need to tell your brothers. And your father. I can only tell so much."

Alex's jaw clenched. "I can't."

"Why? Why can't you Alex?" Dean asked, "We've been chasing this thing all our lives!"

Missouri was giving him a look. "Calm down boy, she is doing it to protect this family." She looks at her
"Like you've always been. Oh sweetie I'm so sorry."

Alex started to cry. "I've always known. I can't tell you because if I do. You'll end up dead."

Sam and Dean looked at each other. "Alex-"

"It said. It said it'd come back for me." "I don't know why."

Missouri smiled. "Baby you are protected by God. It wants you because of that."

"But why me."

"You have something big ahead of you darlin."

"So. Do you think something is back at the house?" she asked Sam

Sam nodded.

"It doesn't make sense. Why is everything acting up now?" Missouri asked

"It feels like something is starting." Alex suggested.
"Dad gone, your girlfriend's death. Like a freakin domino effect."

The four of them went to their old Home. Alex was trying to control her emotions. Dean could see she was struggling to keep it together.

"Hey, Jenny. This is our friend, Missouri."

"If it's not too much trouble, we were hoping to show her the old house. You know, for old time's sake." Dean lied

"You know, this isn't a good time. I'm kind of busy." Said Jenny, she looks upset

"Listen, Jenny, it's important." MISSOURI smacks him on the back of the head. "Ow!" Dean said

"Give the poor girl a break, can't you see she's upset?" to JENNY Forgive this boy, he means well, he's just not the sharpest tool in the shed, but hear me out." DEAN looks stunned said Missouri

"About what?" Jenny asked

"About this house."

"What are you talking about?" Jenny

"I think you know what I'm talking about. You think there's something in this house, something that wants to hurt your family. Am I mistaken?" Missouri

"Who are you?" Jenny asked

"We're people who can help, who can stop this thing. But you're gonna have to trust us, just a little." [JENNY looks unsure.]

Alex steps in her home. She could feel the energy. It was a lot of different energies. She cocked her head to the side.

"You feelin that energy?" Missouri asked her

She nods. "But it's not the same one from that night." They went to Sam, now Sari's room.

Sam and Dean pulled out an EMF detector. Alex rolled her eyes.

"Amateurs." Missouri said

"It's not what killed mom." Alex said "This is something different."

"This place is a magnet for paranormal activity. It's a poltergeist. A nasty one. and it won't stop until Jenny and her babies are dead."

Alex crocked her head to the side. "It's more than one spirit too."

Missouri nodded.

"Well one thing is for sure I ain't letting anyone else die in this house." Said Dean

Alex is helping Missouri making mojo bags.

"What is this stuff?" Dean asked

"Protection bags." Alex answered

Dean looked at her. she shrugged

"Your sister is quite gifted for the craft."

"And this stuff will destroy the spirits?" Sam asked

We're gonna put them inside the walls in the north, south, east, west corners on each floor of the house.

"We'll be punchin' holes in the dry wall. Jenny's gonna love that."

"She'll live."

"And this'll destroy the spirits?" Said Sam

"It should. It should purify the house completely. We'll each take a floor. But we work fast. Once the spirits realize what we're up to, things are gonna get bad." said Missouri

"Look, I'm not sure I'm comfortable leaving you guys here alone."

"Just take your kids to the movies or somethin', and it'll be over by the time you get back." JENNY, still slightly unsure, leaves with her kids. MISSOURI goes back inside.

Inside the house, SAM goes into one of the rooms with a hammer. He kneels down by the wall and begins using the end of the hammer to hit against the walls. While he is doing this, a plug on the other side of the room takes itself out of the outlet. A lamp begins to move on its own also. The plug snakes its way towards SAM. Downstairs in the kitchen, DEAN is punching the wall with a small ax. Behind him, a drawer begins to open on its own. In the basement, MISSOURI is looking around. She brings a bag full of herbs to the wall. She hears a noise and turns around to see a table coming towards her. She screams as it pins her against the wall. Alex runs to help her. And gets her down. She goes back upstairs for Sam.

Back in the kitchen, DEAN also hears a noise. He quickly ducks just as a knife hurls itself into a cabinet. DEAN places a table in front of himself as more knives come through it. Upstairs, SAM is chopping a hole in the wall. The lamp crashes to the ground. SAM turns around to see what the noise was, and the cord wraps itself around his neck. SAM falls to the ground, trying to get the cord off. Eventually, he lies weak on the floor. DEAN runs upstairs and into the room.

"Sam!" Dean

DEAN rushes over to SAM and tries to get the cord off, but it won't budge. Alex rushed over.

"What is dark now be filled with light, I banish this evil before my sight!" Alex chanted and with a blinding light it disappeared.

"You sure this is over?" Sam asked

"I'm sure. Why? Why do you ask?" asked Missouri

"Never mind. It's nothin', I guess." Said Sam

Alex paused. No. she could still feel some energy there.

"Hello? We're home." She comes into the kitchen and looks around. "What happened?" said Jenny

"Hi, sorry. Um, we'll pay for all of this." DEAN looks confused.

"Don't you worry. Dean's gonna clean up this mess." Said Missouri

Alex stifled a laugh.

"Well, what are you waiting for, boy? Get the mop. He begins walking away. "And don't cuss at me!"
DEAN walks away, muttering under his breath. A little while later, they left, Alex thanked Missouri.

"All right, so, tell me again, what are we still doin' here?" Dean asked

"I don't know. I just…I still have a bad feeling."

"Why? Missouri did her whole Zelda Rubenstein thing, the house should be clean, it should be over." Said Dean

"Yeah, well, probably. But I just wanna make sure, that's all." Sam said

"He's right. I don't think it left either." Said Alex, she could still feel the spirits.

"Yeah, well, problem is I could be sleeping in a bed right now." [He slides down in his seat and closes his eyes. SAM looks up at JENNY'S bedroom window and sees her screaming, just as in his dream.

"Dean. Look, Dean! They rush out of the car and run towards the house."

"You grab the kids, I'll get Jenny." Dean instructed Alex and Sam

Inside SARI'S bedroom, the figure made out of fire is standing by her closet. In the hallway, DEAN rushes to JENNY'S bedroom door.

"Jenny!"

"I can't open the door!" Jenny cries

"Stand back!" She moves back. DEAN kicks down the door and brings her downstairs.

"No, my kids!"

"Sam and Alex got your kids, come on." Dean said

While carrying RITCHIE in his arms, Alex goes to SARI'S bedroom, where she is screaming for help. Alex goes to SARI'S bed and picks her up. "Don't look okay Sari?" Alex instructed.

"Don't look. Don't look!" They leave the bedroom. Outside, DEAN and JENNY rush out of the house. Inside the house, SAM rushes down the stairs and puts the kids down on the floor."All right, Sari, take your brother outside as fast as you can, and don't look back." Suddenly, an invisible force makes SAM fall to the floor. He slides backwards into another room, crashing into a table.

"Sam!" Alex cried She tried chanting but it flung her back as well.

SARI screams and runs outside with RITCHIE. They rush outside to DEAN and JENNY. DEAN kneels down to SARI'S eye level.

"Sari, where's Sam and Alex?" Dean asked

"He's inside. Something's got him. Alex is trying to get rid of it."

DEAN opens the trunk of the Impala and grabs a rifle and an ax. He rushes to the front door and begins chopping away at it. Inside the kitchen, SAM gets flung into a set of cabinets. He stands up and is pinned against the wall by the invisible force. He can't move any part of his body. Alex is trying to get him down by chanting again.

The fire figure makes its way towards SAM. DEAN continues chopping down parts of the door. Eventually, he makes a hole that he is able to step through. He walks through the house, looking for SAM.

"Sam? Sam!" He finds SAM. As he looks at the fire figure, he raises his gun.

"No, don't! Don't!" Sam cried

"What, why?!" said Dean

"Mom." Alex whispered.

Suddenly, the fire vanishes. Instead, standing in front of them is Mary Winchester, exactly as she was the night she died. DEAN'S expression softens. In shock, he lowers his gun slowly.

"Mom?" Dean said softly. MARY smiles

"Dean." Mary said, Dean starts to cry she turns to Alex. "My beautiful girl. So grown up." She brushed her hand on Alex's cheek. "Mommy." She whispered. "Please forgive John. okay?" "Thank you. For protecting them." she whispered to her Alex starts to cry. She turns to Sam. She smiles sadly. "I'm so Sorry Sam."
"For what?" Sam asks
She looks at him sadly, but says nothing. She walks away from them and looks up at the ceiling.

"You get out of my house. And let go of my son." Once again, she bursts into flames. When she is entirely engulfed, the fire reaches the ceiling and disappears. The force holding SAM to the wall is released. He walks over to DEAN, and the two of them look at each other, stunned.

"Now it's over." Said Alex

"Thanks for these." Alex said, looking through the old photos. She smiled she showed Dean some of them together.

"Don't thank me, they're yours." Said Jenny

"Well, there are no spirits in there anymore, this time for sure." Said Missouri to Sam

"Not even my mom?"

"No."

"What happened?" Sam asked

"Your mom's spirit and the poltergeist's energy, they cancelled each other out. Your mom destroyed herself goin' after the thing." Said Missouri

"Why would she do something like that?" Sam asked

"Well, to protect her children, of course." SAM nods, with tears in his eyes. MISSOURI goes to put her hand on his shoulder, but she stops herself. "Sam, I'm sorry." Said Missouri

"For what?"

"You sensed it was here, didn't you? Even when I couldn't." Missouri asked Sam
"Even your sister could sense it.

"What's happening to me?" Sam asked

"I know I should have all the answers, but I don't know." Said Missouri, she turns to Alex. "And I don't know about you either child. But you are a holy divine being."

"Sam, Alex, you ready?" Dean asked

Alex nodded. She wanted to leave so bad. she felt their father was nearby. But she didn't say anything.

"Don't you be strangers." "And take care of your brothers, lord knows they need you."

"We won't." Alex hugged her

"See you around." Said Jenny, waving

The three of them drive off. Alex looked back in the house. Forgive John. said her mother. She didn't know if she could "Sorry mommy. Don't know if I can." She mumbled under her breath.

"That boy…he has such powerful abilities. But why he couldn't sense his own father, I have no
idea." "Your daughter could though. She is something else." Said Missouri to John Winchester, sitting on the couch

"Mary's spirit –- do you really think she saved them?" John asked

"I do." Said Missouri

JOHN nods sadly and twists his wedding ring on his finger.

"John Winchester, I could just slap you. Why won't you go talk to your children?" said Missouri

"I want to. You have no idea how much I wanna see 'em." John said tearfully. He paused, he was surprised Alex was them.

"I don't think Alex will forgive me though." Remembering his voicemails to her after she left. He always thought she was the backbone of the family. When she left everything fell apart. He was angry that she left.

"You need to talk to that child John." "She saw and interacted with what killed Mary. And she aint talking to no one about it."

He looked up at Missouri.

"Everything she's been doin is to protect you."

John suddenly felt guilty. He needed to apologize to her.
