Midoriya apartment next mourning (Izumi POV)
Unpleasant dreams were to be expected after a traumatic event. My mind relayed yesterday's event like a movie but with some edits that made me tear up.
Like Tsuyu turning into a pile of dust or All Might never showing up.
Those thoughts woke me up two hours before my alarm and kept me staring at the ceiling the whole time. I still have phantom pains in my back but the doctor said it should go away soon.
"Not soon enough..." I mumbled to myself stretching my back.
Looking over at my nightstand the clock read 4:50 which was ten minutes before the alarm goes off. Deciding two hours was long enough in bed I go to take a shower. Taking off my night shirt I took at my back in the mirror to see flawless skin with no sign of the horror my mom described.
Getting into a somewhat scalding shower my mind goes to my quirk, there were still things I didn't know about. The things it can do are extremely versatile but I've only had my full quirk for less than a year so unknown abilities will pop up.
Did I teleport at USJ or was it something else close to that?
Was my regeneration better than before or was it always that strong?
Finishing up my shower I hear mom running around the apartment probably also getting ready for the day. The amount of convincing mom needed to let me go to school today was enormous. She was nervous on a good day but seeing me in the hospital was a little to much for her. Getting into my uniform and walking to the dining room I see mom already putting my food on the table.
"Morning." I say getting her attention.
"Good morning Izumi, how do you feel? Any pain? Are you sure you won't stay home?" She managed to say in one breath.
"Mom I'm fine and yes I want to go to school." I say giving her a smile.
"Ok but if anything happens call immediately." She says giving a nervous smile back.
Trying to lighten the mood I ask about work and get a very long explanation of why Endeavor was flaming pile of poo. This won't be the first time mom makes a good amount of Yen off Endeavor from her lawyer fees.
"Have a safe day Izumi." Mom say grabbing her briefcase.
"Ok you to!" I yell back as I hear the front door close.
UA high school 2 hours later (Izumi POV)
Walking into the classroom I hear every conversation die on the way to podium, Looking around everyone was just staring at me like a ghost was here. Trying to ignore the mood I take the attendance sheet from Momo but even she was frozen. Deciding it was better to address the elephant in the room I clear my throat.
"Ok I'll answer two questions and no more." I say seeing hands shoot up.
"Toru go." I say pointing at the raised sleeve.
"How are you back at school! Your back was super messed up!" She say waving her arms for punctuation.
"Turn out I'm part vampire, just pump me full of blood and I'm right as rain." I says in a lazy fashion.
"Please explain!" Iida yells chopping the air in front of him.
"Ok but I'm counting that as question two. So I can regenerate pretty fast normally, but when red blood cells are introduced to my body it turns up about 400 percent. My back would have taken an average person weeks maybe months to heal, I normally need a few days, but with blood I healed in minutes." I say giving the hi lights of what the doctor said.
"To your seat Midoriya and Yaoyorozu." A tired voice says from the doorway.
Seeing the mummy that was our teacher hobble into the room let me come up with one more smart ass remark.
"And my quirk also lets me avoid being this." I say gesturing to Mr Aizawa and his many bandages.
His glare followed me to my seat but Mina high fives me on the way.
"Now that I have your attention our school guidance counselor Hound Dog would like to remind you his door is always open if you need counseling after USJ." He says like a person talks about the weather.
"Now the UA sports festival will be held in one week, this event will be watched by nearly everyone in the country will watch. Not I are you representing your year but also showing your ability to pro hero's looking for inters, So train hard." He says in a serious manner.
"I know exactly what I need." I think only somewhat paying attention to out teacher.
"Ok now get read for your next class." He say dismissing us as he sinks behind the podium.
"Hay Izu what do think the sports festival is like?" Tsu asks as the class groups up.
"A publicity move where if we're not careful... you will be remembered for something embarrassing." I say remembering all the fail videos online of the sports festival.
"Ya remember that one guy from a couple of years ago who was buck naked during one of the events?" Mina says chuckling.
"Exactly so be careful." I say punching my palm.
"Guys I'm going to do my best." Ochako says with the determination of a warrior.
"Yes we will all do our best." Momo says backing up a little.
"Guys I'm going to do my best!" She repeated loudly pumping her fist in the air.
"Uh Ochako are you alright?" I ask also backing up.
"GUYS IM GOING TO DO MY BEST!" She yells causing even Kacchan to flinch off to the side.
"Ok let's calm down and go to our next class." I say placing my hands on her shoulders and guiding her out of the class.
We would have if not for the crowd in front of the classroom door. Looking at them it was a mix of people most from different parts of the school. The most memorable was a guy with purple hair and eye bags that could rival Aizawa's.
"Out of the way you damn extras!" Kacchan yells getting nothing but glares from the crowd.
"Is this how the hero course acts, I'll have to say I'm disappointed. Some of us in general education don't have quirks that work well on robots so we missed out on being in the hero course." Purple haired says.
"I don't care if you weren't good enough to pass the entrance exam, now out of the way weaklings!" Kacchan oh so elegantly puts getting more angry looks and some shouts.
"You know if someone into the hero course does bad enough during the sports festival you can't get kicked out. That leaves a spot open for someone in another course to move in." Purple hair say making my class uneasy.
"I don't have time for this." I think doing the only sensible thing.
Walking straight into the crowd plowing through the people but purple hair stands his ground, so I pick him up by the back of his shirt and move him over. That seemed to anger him greatly if the glare was any indication but I didn't care. If your late to Present Mic's class he makes you sing to your classmates, I will not suffer because people want to size up the competition.
UA training grounds three days later (Izumi POV)
It was nice of the school to give the hero classes an extra two hour block each day for quirk practice. Despite my preference for my regular gym you can't use your quirk there. This was day three of my attempts to recreate my teleportation from USJ and I was not making any progress.
"What am I missing?" I mumble standing in the clearing.
I was just going off the feeling in that moment, more specifically trying to copy it.
"It was somewhere between dissipating and moving really fast..." I trail off dissipating and reforming.
Was it actually physically moving? No it felt like being pulled to a specific location not like a teleportation quirk. So maybe sight based instead of location based, like a quick movement quirk. Moving like when I dissipate and will my smoke form to move.
Seeing a spot near some trees about 15 meters away I dissipate, but instead of focusing on moving my body I focus on the spot. All at once I feel like my body was being pulled and the next second I see I'm near the trees.
"Yes!" I shout pumping my fist into the air.
For thirty minutes I just work on my speed and range which topped out at 22 meters.
"Now that I have that somewhat understood... I need to work on versatility." I say to myself.
Walking to the exit of the training ground I pull my phone out and look up as many different shotgun shells that have been made since the gun was invented.
"Oh Bolo rounds sound interesting." I say looking up the specs.
Musutafu Silverman Gym 3 days later (Izumi POV)
"Hay Yu are you going to UA's sports festival?" I ask while we run on the treadmills.
"UA basically called every active duty hero available for security, so yes I'll be there. You get a ticket or something?" She ask.
"No just wondering." I say knowing she'll find out I'm a student.
It's not like I was trying to hide my age but every time I try and bring it up something interrupts me.
"The best part is hero's get inters after, so I get a slave for a week." Yu says with an evil grin.
"Not interning with her..." But who would I even intern with? There wasn't exactly hero's with similar quirks to mine. Maybe a hero that's good at something I lack or something I'm interested in? That was also contingent on the hero actually sending an offer.
"Who did you intern with?" I ask.
"Well I went to a small hero school so we didn't have a lot of options. My internship was spent with a triple digit hero who made me do paperwork for a week." She says with a shiver.
"Oh talking about internship horror story's, my first year was with a search and rescue hero in the mountains. I ended up getting chased by wildlife for an hour while looking for a couple of lost hikers." Uwabami adds pulling out her earbuds.
They both started to compete for who had the worst internship and that made me nervous. Was every internship like that or were they exaggerating? Out of the corner of my eye a distinctive new comer enters the gym. The lady had light brown skin, white hair, red eyes but the most notable feature was the two rabbit ears on her head. My inner fan girl was going crazy but months of being around heroes here helped keep me calm.
"What's grumpy rabbit doing here?" Yu asks roughly.
"Ya she has her own gym being number six on the hero ranking." Uwabami with a frown.
"Hello welcome to the Silverman Gym are you here for a membership." The manager/greeter/head trainer Machio Naruzo says with a smile.
"Just get the paperwork this is only temporary until my gym is fixed!" She says in a abrasive manner.
"Alright you can start while I get a membership form, please feel free to ask if you need anything." He replies with a smile being the picture perfect example of customer service.
"Is she always like..." I accidentally say out loud.
"A bitch, yes almost always." Uwabami says in a deadpan tone.
"That seems a bit harsh." I say still amazed at seeing the Rabbit Hero: Mirko in person.
"No for once I completely agree with her, that rabbit is a complete bitch." Yu adds nodding.
Said rabbit immediately comes over to a treadmill and puts the speed to max running full tilt. She didn't even break a sweat as she ran showing off her amazing fitness. After finishing up I move to do some bench presses upping the weight to 375 pounds. Ten minutes later a shadow is cast over me showing the Rabbit hero looming over me.
"You seem tough, want to fight?" She says in an ominous way.
"No I'm good." I say slipping into my more indifferent way of speaking.
"Tsk Your just another coward." She says walking away.
"No I'm just not dumb enough to have a fist fight in a gym..." I mumbled out.
"What did you say?!" She say revealing her rabbit ears aren't for show.
"Nothing I need to repeat." I say racking the weight trying to cover up my embarrassment at being heard.
Before the situation could spiral any further out of control the Machio comes over with some papers, While Mirko was signing Machio flashes a thumbs up at me.
Midoriya apartment 3 hours later (Izumi POV)
Mom wasn't home yet, something about getting things from the store. After a small dinner I was playing games in my room trying to relax for tomorrow's sports festival. Not only was I competing with all of first year but also trying to get the attention of pro hero's.
"Izumi are you in there!" Mom yells getting home.
"In my room!" I shout back.
Light footsteps steadily get closer to my room then the door gets flung open.
"Izumi guess what!?" She say sounding really happy.
"What?" I say.
"I just got two tickets to the UA sports festival, Mitsuki and I will be there to cheer you kids on!" She says brandishing the tickets.
"Awesome I won't let you down." I say hoping that she was low key.
"Of course you won't but I need to hurry and make a banner." She says running out of my room.
"Oh god no..." I say as my hope jumped out the window.
UA sports festival next day (Izumi POV)
There was a weird sort of quiet around the locker room at our class prepared to begin the sports festival. Most of the class was amping themselves up while they could, I was just putting my hair in a ponytail. I may be nervous but this was the last place to show it.
"Everyone we will be starting soon!" Tenya yells barging into the locker room.
"Midoriya." The monotone voice of Todoroki says getting everyone's attention.
"What do you need Todoroki?" I ask not sure why he approached.
"Objectively I'm more powerful than you." He says like it was a fact.
"If that's what you want to believe." I say dismissively.
"I will beat you and win the sports festival." He says dead serious.
"Hay what with the declaration of war all of a sudden? Shouldn't we stick together?" Kirishima asks.
"We're not here to make friends, we are competing." He says turning to walk away.
"Listen Todoroki I could give a shit less what you declare or if you have some grudge against me. This class is here to represent future heroes to Japan and show what we got. So leave whatever is bugging you here because unlike you I'm actually trying to have a good presentation." I say glaring down at him.
His eye go wide for a second but is emotionless face soon replaced it.
The class filed out of the locker room and through the opening into that came to the center of the massive stadium. Present Mic was providing color commentary over the speaker system with a lack luster Aizawa co commentating. Thousand of people are cheering and shouting in a fervor for what's about to start but one voice I could hear above it all.
"IZUMI! IZUMI! Do your best honey!" Mom shouted from her front row seat.
Worst part was she is wearing a T-shirt with my face on it and waving a banner with my name in glitter. Aunt Mitsuki was sitting next to her face palming at her best friends antics.
"Where in the hell did she get that shirt!? She only had one night!" I think waving in a subdued manner.
"Your mom is adorable." Mina says next to me as we stop at our class area.
"Shut it." I growl out as our teacher Midnight walks out on stage wear her hero costume causing every man and some women to drool.
"Silence!" Midnight yells cracking her whip.
"Welcome to the UA sports festival I'll be your chief referee, now for the some words from our student representative Izumi Midoriya!" She says pointing her whip at me.
"What!" I say a little to loud.
"You did score number one in the entrance exam." Jiro says pushing me a bit.
Walking up to the stage was like going to a hanging, what was I supposed to say? Getting up the step Midnight points to the microphone waiting for me to say something. A few seconds go by so I just decide whatever was better than nothing.
Outside of UA stadium same time (Mt Lady POV)
"Woods if I hear one more complaint I'll throw you into that stadium in your underwear." I say eating my free takoyaki.
"Ha that would be hilarious." Death Arms says clapping Kamui Woods on the back.
Deciding to pay attention to the opening ceremony on the massive screen I nearly spit my free food out. Right there standing on stage in a student participation uniform was Izumi! She was a student meaning she was fifteen maybe sixteen at most!
How did this happen?
Why does she look like she's in her late twenties?
Why am I strangely ok with this and not furious at being deceived?
"We will be talking about this later Izumi!" I think as more free food is shoved into my mouth.
Unknown location same time (All for One POV)
Deciding to have a quick look at this years sports festival was just to scout quirks I may take. Using my Machine Interface quirk I see the same screen Tomura was watching. The usual fan fair was expecting from the hero school making Tomura scratch his neck with the one hand he had left. Taking sip of the health shake I wait for it to start.
"Welcome to the UA sports festival I'll be your chief referee, now for the some words from our student representative Izumi Midoriya!" The hero says causing me to take the first spit take of my life.
"I'll kill everyone in that class!" Tomura yells waving his stump that used to be his arm.
"What is Inko feeding that girl." I think ignoring Tomura's ranting.
Last time I saw my little Izumi she was a ball of sunshine that didn't even come up to my knee. The girl on stage was at least 190 centimeters tall and obviously worked out.
"Maybe this girl just has the same name... and hair color... and looks like she's related to Inko." I think looking very closely.
But that theory was very quickly tossed to the side when the camera panned over to the crowd. In the front row was Inko looking just as beautiful as I remember, wearing a shirt that had our daughters face and holding a sparkly banner. My wife was cheering frantically waving the banner with her blond friend sitting next to her trying to hide.
"Somehow I believe this will be a problem later." I think knowing my daughter was in the hero course.
UA sports festival same time (Izumi POV)
"Hello and thanks for coming to see us at this year's sports festival, We will show you what the best hero school in the country is capable of. Now let's go Plus Ultra!" I say in my raspy voice getting applause as I run back to my spot.
"What a great speech, now let's find out what our first event is!" Midnight says with a holographic screen popping up behind her. A slot machine starts to spin but if they didn't already decided what were doing then we would be here forever.
"And the first event is the obstacle course!" Midnight declared.
Yup they definitely knew what was happening otherwise they wouldn't have already had an obstacle course set up. Going to the starting line I see other classes glaring at us most likely because of Kacchan's words earlier in the week.
"Ready... set... go!" Midnight shouts.
Dissipating immediately I was spared the massive wave of ice covers the ground freezing the others in place. Moving as fast as I can to the exit of the tunnel and the edge of the ice, I managed to secured the lead. The sound of explosions behind me said the other are getting closer so I reform and haul ass down the path around the stadium.
"DEKU!" I hear Kacchan yell behind me but I ignore.
Letting my long legs carry me to our first obstacle with the robots from the entrance exam. But I don't want to waste time on them so I just dissipate again going through there legs. Right after I get past them I hear the sound of ice rushing over and metal cracking. Looking over my shoulder I see Todoroki hot on tail leaving the iced over robots behind.
"It seems Midoriya takes the lead by avoiding the robots while her competitors utterly destroyed them!" Present Mic says.
"It's a smart move to avoid something if you can just go around or through it." Aizawa says adding his thoughts.
"Don't you think your special you half and half bastard!" I hear Kacchan once again.
"Oh good he's not focusing on me." I think while I run.
Our next obstacle was an open canyon with many pillars that had cables attached to each swaying slightly. Seeing the closest pillar was about 15 meters away I focus on it and teleport, appearing on the top of the I see Todoroki and Kacchan right at the edge of the canyon. Not wasting any time I teleport from Pillar to pillar until I reach the other sides of the canyon.
"Still in the lead Midoriya makes short work of the canyon but her classmates are close behind! You did a great job teaching these kids!" Present Mic says.
"I take no responsibility for any of there actions." Aizawa says with a groan.
Running to the third obstacle I find an open area covered in dirt, looking closer seeing lumps in the dirt. Grabbing a rock from the path I throw it at one of the lumps and it exploded in a pink cloud.
"And we reach the final obstacle, the minefield! Better watch your step!" Present Mic warned.
"Let it be know that the mines are practically harmless." Aizawa says probably covering the schools ass.
"You picked the exact wrong person to stop with a minefield." I say dissipating.
Flying over the mines as fast as possible I hear Kacchan's explosions coming closer and Todoroki freezing a path through. Reaching the end of the minefield I reform and run to the end, turning I see both classmates right behind me. We are neck and neck going into the tunnel but I focus on the finish line as I feel a hand grab at the back of my uniform. Crossing the finish I immediately fall on my butt to catch my breath.
"That was so close that we need to consult the instant replay!" Present Mic says over the speakers.
Todoroki and Kacchan are next to me also out of breath as we wait for the results. It may only be the first event but the winner would already have there name out there.
"And winning by a hairs length is Midoriya Izumi!" Present Mic announces showing a photo of the finish line.
The photo showed my head a small centimeter in front of Kacchan and just behind him was Todoroki. The stadium erupted into cheers as my name shows up in the number one spot.
"That's my girl! See that Mitsuki my baby is a winner!" Mom cheers waving her banner.
"Inko calm down! Your embarrassing us and Izumi!" I hear Aunt Mitsuki yell.
Watching the next 39 participants run through the finish line was interesting, all of class 1A made showing our skill. I also see class 1B was well represented as well with a majority of them making it. Even a small amount of the other courses made it despite the odds being against them. Although I did feel bad for Momo who had to drag Mineta to victory as well.
"Valid tactic but comes with a heavy cost." I think watching Momo beat Mineta up.
"Izu you got first!" Mina says running up with Tsu, Ochako, Jiro and Toru.
"Ya I don't think I've ever run so fast in my life." I say evening out my breath.
"Ya but Bakugo looks angry." Tsu points out looking over at Kacchan cursing in silence while glaring at everything.
"Ignore him, we all did great and now we get to move on." I say looking up at the stage.
"Now let's move on to the next event!" Midnight announces bringing the slot machine back out. It spins rapidly until it land on the next method of torture.
"Our next event is the Cavelry battle! And to make things more interesting you placement in the first event will determine how many points your worth. So the first place winner Midoriya Izumi is worth ten million points!" She says painting a huge target on my back.
I didn't even need to look around to feel the hungry looks from every other student. Midnight went into the rules of the Cavalry battle showing the basics but that was the last thing on my mind.
"Now you have fifteen minutes to make a team so good luck!" She says starting the timer.
Looking around people we're already rushing to make teams, most pairing up with classmates.
"Izumi you want to pair up." Ochako says running over with a big smile.
"Yes thanks for not running away, now we just need two more." I say smiling back.
"Hay Miss ten million let's team up!" I hear from a pink hairs girl with what looked like dreadlocks running to us.
"And you are?" I say sizing her up.
"Hatsume Mei! Future CEO of Hatsume industries. You got first place so everyone will be watching you and I can show off my babies." She says grinning like a madwoman.
"Babies!?" Ochako sputters out.
"Your the one who made my hero costume." I say remembering the letter that came with my costume.
"Oh the edgelord costume, ya that was me. So was it everything you dreamed of?" She say getting uncomfortably close.
"Uh yes it was perfect." I say scooting back a bit.
"If you need anything added just find me in the support department but enough of that let's team up. The support course let's us use support items if we make them ourselves and I brought tons to show off." Hatsume says brandishing her inventions.
"Alright your in, now we just need one more person..." I say trailing of as I look for someone who hasn't grouped up.
Almost all of the hero course students had teams with a couple just milling about. We needed someone with reach to grab headbands from a distance but who fit that role? Off to the side I noticed one classmate who would be perfect. Tokoyami's Dark shadow quirk definitely had reach and he was light enough to be a rider easily on my shoulders. Walking up to the my bird headed classmate I try and be as persuasive as possible.
"Tokoyami would yo-" but before I could finish he cuts me off.
"It would be an honor to be on your team." He says bowing a little.
"Ok cool... I thought that would take more convincing." I say confused.
"I am... shy by nature, however I have wanted to converse with thee ever since the battle training class. You particular air is of the grim reaper and I wish to be an associate of yours on a social level." He say turning his head away.
It took me to long to pick apart that statement with how he spoke but I realize what he wants.
"Sure we can be friends, now let's join the others." I say walking back to Ochako and Hatsume.
"I thank thee." He says following.
"Alright Tokoyami is going to be the rider, you both will be the support, and I'll be the horse. Hatsume outfit us with gear to your heart's content but I'm taking the jet pack." I say getting an enthusiastic nod from Hatsume.
"Ten million will be a most enticing target, how will we deal with the consequences of you victory?" Tokoyami ask seeing the other teams eyeing us already.
"Oh I have a great plan for that." I say grinning.
