Chapter 5

It turned out to be a pagan god and the locals were making sacrifices.

Vanir, norse pagan god of protection. Alex texted Dean

How do we kill it? D

Set it on Fire.

Nothing after that. She cursed. She had a feeling he was in trouble . Damn it.

Sam and Alex showed up, she looked at Sam confusingly. "Where were you?" Sam asked
"On a bus back to California."

"How'd you two get here?" Dean asked, relieved to see them.

"Stole a car." They both side

"Ha!" Dean cried

"You need to burn the thing Dean." Alex said

They did.

"Can't believe that whole town is going to get away with it." Alex muttered

"Yeah we'll pretty sure what's coming to them is enough punishment." Said Sam

"What made you two come back?"

"I didn't. I still want to find Dad and kill the thing that killed mom, but Jess and Mom are gone. We just have each other now and gotta stick together." Said Sam

"Aww Sammy hold me. that was beautiful."

Sam laughed and shoved him.

"Well crap to with what I had to say." Alex said- not wanting to ruin the moment

But Sam was right. They needed to stick together.

"So. Why did you come back." Dean asked her

"Mom wanted me to protect you two."

Dean and Sam looked at each other.

The next case lead them to a rawhead. They found the kids in the basement. Sam ushered them out the door. Dean ramped up the electricity. "You sure that's a good idea Dean?" Alex warned

"Course I am!"

They lured out the rawhead that attacked them both. It sent Dean and Alex flying. Alex landed in the water, losing her weapon next to the rawhead. It electrocutes them both. Alex slowly loses consciousness

"Alex!" Dean screamed, he gets up, he holds her in his lap, she wasn't moving.

Sam rushes downstairs. "Alex!"

"Shit, we need to get her to the hospital!" said Dean, carrying her.

Sam and Dean waited anxiously for the doctors. Alex was still unconscious.

"This is my fault." Dean said bitterly

"You couldn't have known she'd get hurt Dean." Sam said

They talked to the police about the event.

"Alexandria Winchester?" The doctor asked

Dean and Sam stood up.

"I'm afraid the prognosis isn't good. It triggered a heart attack. And it was pretty massive. It damaged her heart."

Sam and Dean looked at each other. Dean looks distraught.

"She has a few months, maybe weeks at the most. I'm so sorry." The Doctor said

"There's gotta be something we can do!" Sam cried

The Doctor side. "It seems that she had some other health issues that contributed to this. she has high blood pressure, and we indicated she hasn't been sleeping properly. Which can contribute to heart related issues. Also does she smoke?"

Dean's jaw clenched and whispered to Sam. "remind me to steal those from her." Sam nodded in agreement.

"Well I'm afraid that won't do any good now. I'm sorry I wish we had better news. Just try to make her as comfortable as we can."

"Doc, she's our sister. She practical raised us! And you're saying there's nothing you can do?" Dean asked angrily.

"We don't work miracles. I'm sorry."

Sam and Dean went back into to the room.

"I'm going to make phone calls and see if anyone knows something. They have to." Dean said, looking at Alex. She was pale, and she looked tired.

Sam nodded.

Alex moaned and woke up. "Dean I am SO going to haunt your ass."

Dean choked out a laugh.

"Why?"

"I told you it was stupid." She opened her eyes. Both her brothers were distraught.

Dean looked upset. She smiled softly. "I'm just kidding kiddo." "Not about the haunting thing. Oh. No I should definitely haunt Johnny Depp." She hummed

"I don't think that's funny." Sam said

"Well. It is shocking." She put emphasis on shocking.

They both groaned.

"Oh come on, I'm going to be doing this all day. You know it."

She sighed. "I'm leaving my house to you two idiots. Please. No wild parties or hookers. Don't spend my money all in one place either."

"Please. Don't." Dean begged

"We'll find a cure for this." said Sammy

"Guys. You know in this line of work it's bound to happen." She said softly

"Damn it Alex. Losing you is like losing mom all over again! Not going to happen." Dean said, tears in his eyes.

"Dean. Death is inevitable."

"Since when have you become so pessimistic?" Sam snapped at her

"Since Mom died Sam. When that thing said it'd come for me again. I mean. That's never a good thing right?" "It's never a good thing when a demon says it's going to come for you."

Sam and Dean looked at each other. "Alex why didn't you tell us this?" Dean asked

"Because I'm the older sister right? I have to protect you two idiots." She winced a bit and rubbed on her chest.

"You don't have to. We can take care of ourselves." Said Dean
"You don't have to be the strong one all the time Alex."

"Dean. I want to. If I have I have to be, I'd do it for you two."

Sam started to cry.

"By the way we are totally taking away your smoking privileges." Said Dean, trying to lighten the mood

"Doctors are hacks! I just saw one smoking outside!" She whined

Dean already reached into her jacket and got her cigarettes. "Dean Winchester you put those down."

"Oh. No. after this. you're quitting." Dean stuffed it in his pocket and walked out the door.

Sam grabbed her hand. "We'll find away."

"If you two make any deals or do something stupid I will kick both of your asses." She warned them

Sam kissed her forehead and she got comfortable in bed again and she slept.

She felt a presence in her room.

"What idiotic thing you've gotten into this time?"

She looked up. It was Crowley. he looked distraught.

"Oh you know. The usual." She said dryly.

"This isn't funny love."

She snorted. "You're sounding like my idiot brothers." "Fraid we are going to cut our business short though-"

He made a face. "Alex. This is serious. Make a deal with me."

"Crowley- I'm not going to make a deal with you so I can die in ten years."

He had a solemn look on his face. "You wouldn't suffer in hell."

"Tempting. But still no."

Crowley looked upset.

"Aww Crowley having a case of the feelings?" She teased

he kissed her forehead. "You're the best damn assistant among those incompetent lackies."

"Well. Good luck with replacing me." she joked

"Or not." He winked at her and disappeared again

She sighed. She was bored. "Fuck this." She unhooked her monitors and got dressed and fought off the nurses and doctors.

Dean and Sam were rummaging in John's journal. Dean was on the phone with various hunters. Sam called their Dad.

"Hey Dad. I know you'll never get this but ummm. It's Alex. She's uh in pretty bad shape. She's really sick and Doctors say that…. There's nothing they can do. But they don't know what we know and me and Dean are going to find a way to make her better okay? So don't worry. Just wanted to let you know." Sam looked like he was going to cry again

Dean snorted. "If Alex finds out you called him she's kicking your ass. And she's going to be more pissed off if he doesn't show knowing she's on her death bed."

"What do you want me to do Dean?! He deserves to know his daughter is dying in the hospital!"

"I'm just saying if she gets better and he's still not here it's only going to piss her off." Dean warned

"What will piss me off?" Alex said, leaning against the door way. She was pale and looked like she was about to pass out.

"Alex! What the hell!" Dean grabbed her and helped her to the bed

"What are you doing here?" Sam asked hugging her

"I checked myself out." She paused. "Well. Fought a couple doctors and nurses in the process. But still!"

Dean laughed. "That's my girl."

"You're insane." Sam shook his head

"I hate hospitals. So depressing. I am not dying in a freakin hospital. And there's absolutely no cute doctors either." She whined

Dean huffs a laugh.

She made herself comfortable on the bed. "So what did you two idiots do."

"Sam called Dad." Dean said Sam glared at him. "Thanks a lot Dean!"

Alex's face darkened. "Waste of time with him Sam."

"He needs to know Alex." Said Sam

"No he doesn't." "Not like he'd come anyway!" she winced, her chest hurt again. Dean patted her back and got her some water.

Sam just got off the phone. "Hey Joshua, dad's old contacts got back to me. there's a specialist. Nebraska."

"Okay well. If I am going to die in a boring ass state can I at least have my cigarettes back?" she asked

Dean and Sam both glared at her. "No!"

Dean helped her to the car in the backseat and gave her a blanket. She pretty much slept the entire way.

They arrived at a tent. The Church of Roy LeGrange. Faith Healer. Witness The Miracle.

"OH HELL NO!" Alex said loudly

Dean and Sam winced

"You're NOT bringing me to some skeevy faith healer!" she protested

"Yeah she's right Sam. This might be a waste of time." Said Dean, Dean helped Alex out of the car

"Some are legit you don't know." Said Sam

"Reverend LeGrange is a great man." Said a Woman

"Yeah that's nice." Alex said dryly

"How can you be such a skeptic?" Sam asked "Even after dealing with what we deal with."

"Because we SEE them Sam." "I was supposed to be this divine whatever and still got jacked." "So much for that huh?" Alex said

Dean nodded. "She's got a point Sammy."

"Or maybe just God works in mysterious ways." Dean turns around it was a young woman

Alex bit her tongue. Dean was checking her out a flirting with her.

"Oh god I am not going to die watching my brother flirt." She said to Sam Sam threw her a glare.

"What are you doing here then if you don't believe?" She asked

"I'm Dean, this is Sam and our sister Alex."

"My brother believes big enough for the both of us." Alex said, chuckling.

An older woman puts her arm around Layla.

"Come on, it's about to start."

Alex glares at Sam. "I'm so going to murder you after this." She hated faith healers. They were frauds, and 9/10 nothing good ever came from it.

"Well. As long as you're alive I don't care." Said Sam

She heard the pastors seremon. She mocked his lecture.

"And right into your wallets." She muttered Sam elbowed her

"You think so young lady?"

She looks up at him. "A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will not escape. Proverb 19.5"

"Hmm you know your bible but you remain skeptical." He asks her

"Well. In my experience nothing ever good comes from your kind of healing."

"What is your name young lady?"

"Alex." She said

"Alexandria! Beautiful name. and I can see God's love shining through you. Come up here with me." said Roy

She froze. Sam and Dean nudged her "Go on."

It felt wrong. She could feel something in the tent. It was wrong.

"No, uhh you best chose someone else."

"What are you doing?" Dean asked her

"Something doesn't feel right." She whispered back

Sam and Dean looked at each other

"But I didn't pick you. The lord did. his divine power that shines through you has shown me."

The crowd clapped enthusiastically.

She got up. She was assisted by Sue Ann. "Friends let us pray!"

She felt strange. Dirty almost. She fainted as they prayed. She heard Sam and Dean call her name and rushed to the stage. She could see a figure. It looked like it didn't want to be there. It was a reaper.

Help me.

It echoed clearly in her mind. 'I will.'

She gasped and opened her eyes. The crowd cheered as she was healed.

She looked at Sam and Dean. "We need to leave. Now."

They went to the Doctors.

"Well your sister other than a few sleep deprived issues and blood pressure issues her heart is fine. No indication there ever was. Not that a woman your age should be having heart attacks." Said the Doctor
"Though it is odd it sometimes happens."

"What do you mean." She asked

"An athletic young man, very healthy. Just suddenly died of a heartattack."

Alex's face darkened.

"Excuse me I have more patients.

She got out to see Sam and Dean.

"Yeah that faith healer is full of shit!"

Sam looked dejected. "So it didn't work?"

"No it worked. Just at the expense of someone else's life!" she said bitterly

"Why can't you just let this go?" Sam asked

"Sam- when I was passed out I saw a reaper."

Dean and Sam's face paled.

"It asked me for help."

"Whatever they're doing. It's not good. Ever see Final Destination? Cause that's what's going to happen."

"So what they have a reaper working for them is your theory?" Dean asked

She nodded.

Sam and Dean looked at each other again. "I'll go check with the reverend and you go check out the guy that died of a heart attack."

Alex rested back at the motel.

"You were right. Something skeevy is going on." Said Dean

Sam came back too. "Each one of the people he's healed 6 people died at the exact same time."

Alex became distraught. "So some poor bastard died in my place?"

"I'm sorry Alex." Dean said softly

"Oh we're nailing them hard." she growled

She hated liars the most. But she hated when innocent people died for someone else pleasure.

Sam nodded. "And you said you saw a reaper?"

She nodded. "I'm guessing it's a binding spell to control him. he didn't look thrilled to be there."

"But how." Alex looked at a tarot card. "The cross. I knew it looked familiar." She gives them the card.

She looked at Sam and Dean "You two should have never brought me here." She walked outside for some air

Sam sighed, "What did Roy say?"

"Alex is something else dude. Apparently, God has plans for her. some warrior god crap." He popped open a beer

"You think its true what they say about her?" Sam asked quietly.

Dean shrugged. "I don't know anymore."

"Even mom said something too."

"Look whatever she is-she's still our sister Sam."

"But don't you think this is all strange? All this stuff happening. Somehow she's in the middle of it."

"And you-" said Dean

He nodded. "I think we all are

"So what do we do with Roy?"

"What we do with all monsters?"

"Dean we aren't killing him!" Sam scolded

"He's playing God!"

"We aren't killing a human Dean."

"So any other ideas?" Dean asked

Alex came back with food.

"We just gotta find out how to break the spell."

She pulled out her book. "We need to destroy the altar. That usually works."

"Usually." Dean echoed

She nodded. "Destroying the object that binds something works."

Sam and Dean went back to the tent and faced off. She could see the Reaper.

"It's not Roy! It's his wife!" Alex shouted

They escape again, Layla and her mother were distraught she was not healed.

They broke the spell and the Reaper killed Sue Ann.

Layla and her mother were distraught. Suddenly something stirred in Alex.

Heal her. the voice echoed

Her eyes shifted. Dean noticed the change. "Alex?" he asked Sam stopped and turned around before getting in the car

She approached Layla. She was faithful a true believer who deserved to be saved. She smiled to Layla who looked at her confusingly. She felt comforted by this woman. Warm. She couldn't explain it. She felt different than what Roy did to her.

"What are you" Layla whispered to her.

Alex's eyes glazed over, almost shining. "You deserve to be saved." She leaned over, chanted in her ear.

Her mother gasped as she saw a glow. It slowly disappeared.

"Alex?" Dean asked confusingly. "What-"

Layla knelt to the ground and began to cry. "You saved me. how. I don't understand."
Alex smiled. "You know."

Dean noticed her voice was different. He got worried. "Alex." He said to her. she felt different. Whatever this was. It wasn't his sister.

"The faithful will always be rewarded. Never forget that Layla." She walked away.

Now Sam was nervous.

"Alex." Dean asked her
"Yes Dean?" She asked
"You aren't Alex." He said slowly
She smiled. "No."
Dean's voice trembled. "What are you then?"
She kissed his cheek. He felt warm. "Have faith Dean. In yourself if not anything else."
Sam approached her. "What are you."
She looked at Sam. "You'll find out soon.
Her eyes shifted again and she fainted. Dean caught her before she fell.

Sam and Dean looked at each other. "What the hell. Was that."

Sam shrugged. He was scared. He didn't think their sister was human.
