And we've another ordinary break chapter followed by Pylea, which is just hilarious.
Chapter 51- Break X
The Scooby Gang found themselves in the dining room once more, where there future selves had almost finished their food already, though theirs was laid out for them as well, so they could eat their own stuff in time before going back to watch the next round of recordings, which was 4 at a time obviously, since 8 in a day was enough.
"I'm guessing you saw what Lindsey did", Summers noted.
"Yeah, he surprised me", Buffy said.
"Surprised us all", Willow spoke up. "Didn't think he had it in him really."
"Yeah, it was too little, too late, but he did the right thing this one time at least", Buffy said. "And it looks like he's going to stick with it for a good long while."
"Yeah, don't get your hopes up too high", Rosenberg told her, surprising them all.
"Wait what? Is this is a show? Is he gonna come back really soon or what?" Dawnster asked, not believing Lindsey would do that after the way he had just quit.
"Wolfram and Hart aren't gonna welcome him back with open arms after what he just pulled", Xander pointed out.
"Who said he was going to come back to work for them?" Maclay asked. "He has his own agenda in mind, or will when he returns."
"And what about right now?" Tara asked. "He seems to have mended his ways right now, and doesn't want to do any kind of dirty work anymore. It has clearly taken its toll, he doesn't seem like he can take that anymore."
"He can't", Harris agreed. "But what he did on coming back, it wasn't about Wolfram and Hart as much as it was about Angel."
"What about Angel?" Giles asked.
"He came back for revenge against Angel", Dawn revealed to them, surprising them all.
"Revenge? For what?" Buffy asked. "The 'cops suck' sign? Because if that's the case, he really should get a sense of humor. That was a joke, meant to poke a little fun at him and if he can't take that, his feelings are really fragile and it's a wonder how he lasted this long in a place like Wolfram and Hart."
"Okay, the 'cops sign' joke and your rant about it, funny", Summers said as they shared a chuckle. "But it wasn't about that really, Lindsey isn't that fragile."
"Then what was it about?" Xander asked.
"Darla", Rosenberg revealed to them. "The schoolboy crush, don't underestimate it. He never could let it go at all."
"So he wanted revenge over a girl who didn't even like him back?" Willow asked. "Okay, that is just pathetic, at this point he should have realized that really, Darla was a soulless Vampire who could never love him, she slept with Angel because she considered Angelus her perfect playmate and wanted him back is all."
"He was too stupid to understand the complexity of their relationship", Maclay told them. "Which is obvious when you see that he actually thought he had a chance even though everything happening clearly proved that he didn't."
"Huh? So he comes back years later over a petty crush. He's stupider than I thought", Buffy said with a scoff.
"Though it wasn't just over Darla", Dawn said. "She was part of the reason."
"And what was the bigger reason for it?" Giles asked, having a feeling he knew it already.
"Angel runs Wolfram and Hart now, in your time period that is", Harris reminded.
"Right", Willow nodded in realization.
"The Senior Partners, they gave Angel the whole power of their firm even though he hadn't really done anything to deserve it, at least from a bad guy's point of view", Summers gave her explanation to the past Scoobies. "When Lindsey heard, he didn't like it, because his archenemy got what he had worked really hard for, and he had to do pretty much nothing to get it, it was offered to him on a silver platter really."
"And he took it", Giles said with a scoff.
"Don't pass comments on things you don't know anything about", Summers said to him and he actually reeled back at her tone, since she rarely took that up with him. "There was a reason Angel took it. He had a choice. None of those were good choices, but he had to do it, there was no other way for him."
"What happened?" Xander asked, now much less judgmental of Angel than before. "Why did he take it?"
"I think it's better understood if you watch it", Harris told them. "It'll be cleared out by the end of Year 4."
"But don't judge him for that, he doesn't like it either, he's just doing it because there is no other way to do it", Rosenberg explained to them. "He's basically using the bad guys' weapons against them, or trying to at least."
"He said something similar to me when I asked him about it", Buffy remembered. "I don't really trust what they're doing, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, if he knows what he's doing, and hopefully he does know it."
"He does, I just wish he found out sooner that we did trust him", Summers said.
"What does that mean?" Willow asked, clearly confused.
"Andrew", Maclay told them.
"Oh, that weasel", Xander said with a scoff.
"At one point, he was called to LA to help Team Angel out with something, and he told them that we didn't trust him anymore", Summers said, clearly angry about it still, and now Buffy and Willow were enraged too while Tara seemed shocked. "And well, it clearly worked since we didn't communicate for a while after that."
"That creep! I'd never say that!" Buffy snapped.
"I know, he was an idiot overestimating himself", Rosenberg told them. "We kicked him out a few months later."
"We'll be doing that first thing after we get back", Buffy snarled.
"Yeah, he never really tried to change", Willow reminded. "Remember, when I turned into Warren, he was happy to see Warren again."
"Should have locked him up right them", Xander said.
"Sorry Will, I'm sure that would have hurt you", Buffy said to her sadly while looking at Tara as well. "I was too lenient with that idiot. No more."
"Thanks, I appreciate it", Willow said with a smile.
By then, the food was all finished.
"So, the last 4 recordings for Year 2 are left", Dawn reminded them.
"Yeah, we're gonna see them right now", Dawnster told her.
"Good luck then", Summers said as the two sets of Scoobies parted ways once more.
And this break chapter is done too.
Frankly, I never liked Andrew. Out of all Buffyverse characters who got redemption, his is the only one that never made an ounce of sense. If anything, he was only with the Scoobies in Season 7 for self-preservation. That's pretty much it. Jonathan showed true remorse over the Trio's actions, Andrew did not, other than when Buffy tricked him into thinking she'd kill him, but that's not genuine remorse.
And there's one thing I never considered in Season 7, but was pointed out to me in a fic called 'My Dark Disquiet' by Rutkowski on AO3 (it's a post-series Tillow fic, and is one of the 'Tara gets resurrected via wish' fic but with a twist that makes it very unique and stand above all other stories with that plot, and I highly recommend it, it's amazing)- In 7x13, when Willow turns into Warren, Andrew was actually happy to see the guy. You know? Same guy who almost raped then murdered his ex-girlfriend, and tried to kill Buffy and ended up murdering Tara, the love of Willow's life. That just showed he was the same creep that he was in Season 6, there was no change in him.
And keeping him around after that was disrespectful to Willow. While I like Buffy Season 7, the removal of everything Tara and increasing the prominence of Andrew the creep was just disgusting. The writers tried to pretend like Tara only mattered to Willow, which is bullshit since Dawn saw both Tara and Willow as her surrogate moms (her moments with Tara are just sweet and emotional on a different level), and Buffy and Tara clearly grew into closer friends in Season 6 as well.
And in 5x11, when Andrew said Buffy didn't trust Team Angel anymore, I was 100% sure he was putting words in Buffy's mouth. I can see Buffy being wary of Angel and his team at that point, but she'd still give him the benefit of the doubt, and so would Willow and Faith. Giles and Xander I can see not trusting Angel anymore after that, since they're not his biggest fans, not sure how Dawn would react though.
A friend of mine called gammaxmen80 has a theory that Andrew is actually a traitor and mole working for the Senior Partners during Angel Season 5 and so he was trying to drive a wedge between both the teams, plus in 5x16 when Team Angel called Giles it was Andrew who faked his voice, because while BTVS Seasons 6-7 Giles was an ass, even he wouldn't ignore the threat of an Old One, his hatred for Angel and Spike notwithstanding.
Though I won't be doing the 'Andrew is a traitor' thing in this fic since here it's already established that Giles was the one who refused to help, but the creep is still gonna be kicked out of the organization once the Scoobies return to their time period.
Anyway, hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter. Stay safe from the coronavirus ya all!
