Chapter 1: Departure

All great stories and adventures have a beginning, the first of many dominoes to fall. In the heart of the North Blue sits a small and jovial whale shaped island where the beginning truly begins. Whale Island is covered in a dense forest which is home to wild animals and other strange creatures. The tip of the whale's tail is home to the peaceful coastal town Moby Bay.

Fishermen, merchants and pirates sometimes come to the port to trade with the townsfolk and spend time drinking in the pubs. Mostly, there's a small bustle of people chatting and moving about trying eagerly to forget they live in such a forgettable place. Walking amongst the vendors' stalls and old men sitting in the shade, Mito made her way back home so she could prepare dinner. Mito was a tall and thin woman with light pink hair.

Off in the nearby forest, a boy ran around playfully leaping through the trees and wrestling animals. This is Asuka. Asuka stood at about five-foot-six-inches with a slim frame. His darkened skin and stark white hair are his most prominent features, both making the other stand out. He continued playing around in the forest for a few hours and eventually made his way back toward town to eat dinner.

It's Asuka's fourteenth birthday and his aunt Mito is cooking his favorite meals for him! More importantly, Mito also promised to finally answer his questions and will let him set out to sea. Asuka walked slowly through the streets and up the small hill this his home. Walking through the front door, the smells of roasted pork and potatoes filled the air and pulled Asuka straight to the dinner table.

A silence hung in the aromatic room as Mito and Asuka sat and ate their delicious dinner until she finally spoke, "So, what do you want to know?"

Asuka took a big gulp of juice and set his cup down slowly. "Tell me about my parents." He spoke with a smile, "Who were they and why was I left here?"

The sad look on aunt Mito's face somewhat alarmed Asuka but he remained silent as she sat there in deep thought. She looked him in the eyes and smiled slightly, "My brother, your father, was a rambunctious boy when we were young and was always getting into trouble. His spirit and drive were powerful and ultimately led him to set out to the sea to find adventure. He was gone for a few years and came back with you as a newborn and left you here with me. Siegfried handed you over to me and told me to keep you safe and hidden."

"Keep me safe? Safe from what? And where did he go?" Asuka spoke excitedly fast.

"Siegfried and I aren't blood relatives, we simply grew up together. His full name is Senju D. Siegfried… The 'D. Clan' are a mystery to a lot of the world but those with a 'D' in their name often stir up trouble and he wanted you tucked away and safe." Mito sighed slowly and smiled at him, "He's somewhere on the Grand Line causing trouble for the World Government."

"So my name is Senju D. Asuka?" He grinned widely and finished his plate of food. "Aunt Mito, I'm gonna sail off to the Grand Line!"

Tears came to Mito's eyes, tears of joy, she smiled and jumped up from her seat to embrace Asuka tightly. They cleaned up the table and spent the night talking and playing board games, falling asleep on the couch together.

The next morning, Asuka packed his rucksack and prepared for his departure. Aunt Mito walked with him to the dock and handed him a package. "Siegfried wanted me to keep this hidden away as well. He told me to give it to you when you set out."

Asuka tugged the ribbon and opened the box to find a yellow-orange orb with six stars on it. He looked it over confused and tucked it away with his things and hugged Mito goodbye. He gently threw his pack onto a small skiff the old fishermen gifted him and stockpiled food and water. Giving one last look at Whale Island, Asuka pushed off and set sail for adventure!

After three days on the sea, Asuka had accidentally finished his provisions out of boredom. In the distance an island began to come into view and he aimed straight for it. In no time at all he arrived at the dock and tied his skiff to a wooden pole.

"Ay ay ay!" A grizzled voice called at him.

Asuka spun around quickly to see a weather worn old drunkard swaying on the dock with a bottle in his hand. Asuka lifted an eyebrow and said, "What?"

"Yer little boat is impressive!" The drunkard bellowed with spittle flying from his mouth. "A grand old ship, yessir."

Asuka climbed onto the dock and stretched his legs, yawning. "Thanks." He smiled at the drunkard, "Where can I get some food, old man?"

The drunkard swayed around as he spun to his right and pointed his bottle down the street. "The Frisky Chicken is the best bar in Fukuyoshi Village, yessir."

"Thanks, old man." Asuka waved at the drunkard as he stepped down the street looking for the Frisky Chicken.

Fukuyoshi Village was somehow dully vibrant and it reminded Asuka of Moby Bay. The condition of the buildings began to diminish as he made his way down the street and he noticed a tall, lopsided building with a large orange chicken sign hanging dangerously from the roof. He ignored the strange looks he received as he strolled through the dirt street to the bar.

Dirty and rough looking men filled the Frisky Chicken and stopped what they were doing and stared at Asuka as he approached the bar with a big grin on his face. "Can I get a whole load of pork chops and potatoes?"

The tall burly bartender looked down at Asuka and cracked a toothless grin, "Sure lad, d'ya want some juice with that?" He chuckled and the rest of the bar erupted with laughter and jeers.

"Yes, please." Asuka spoke simply, staring at the bartender as more laughs erupted from the patrons.

Three of the goons in the bar stood up and walked menacingly at Asuka with grins on their faces. "Hey, kid."

Asuka looked over his shoulder at the three men, "Hm?"

The man in the middle spoke to him, "You got enough money for that food?"

Asuka laughed, "I have ten-thousand Beli." He pulled the wad of bills from his pocket and waved it at them with a grin.

The man on the right lunged for the money quickly and Asuka pulled it back and struck him in the face with a heavy left hook, a wicked crack sounding off as his nose broke. The other two men rushed him and they broke into a skirmish. Asuka blocked several punches and sent a swift kick into the side of one of the men and barraged quick strikes at the other one. The other patrons leapt up and into the beat down.

Asuka skipped back onto the bartop and leapt up to grab the bannister of the second floor. Gunshots sounded off and bullets flew into the wall as he climbed over the rail and onto the second level. Four goons were running up the stairs to his left and he rushed at them, bashing the frontmost man with his shoulder and sending them all crashing down the stairs. More gunshots sounded off and Asuka threw himself through the window and down to the street below where more of the goons stood.

"What's all this, then?" A tall man with a wicked looking cleaver came strolling down the street, a vicious smile on his face.

"I just wanted some juice." Asuka stared at the tall man.

The other goons stepped back to clear the street, "Get him, Vicious."

The tall man, Vicious, gripped his cleaver tightly and dashed quickly at Asuka, slicing him in half at the waist! Vicious guffawed and twirled his cleaver, turning to look at Asuka. Asuka stood perfectly fine and turned to face Vicious with a smile. Vicious this time cut his head off with a roar.

Asuka's head floated up in the air and said, "I can't be cut." His body moved quickly and barraged Vicious with swift and heavy punches.

Asuka's head reattached to his body as he rapidly struck Vicious and he kicked him up in the air. As Vicious began to plummet back down Asuka threw a punch and split his arm at the elbow launching it upward, "Chop-Chop Rocket!" The flying fist hit Vicious hard in the chest and knocked him unconscious before he hit the ground.

The other goons and ruffians turned tail and ran away quickly as their leader hit the ground with a thud. Reattaching his arm, he turned around and walked back inside the Frisky Chicken and sat down at the bar. The bartender moved around quickly and brought Asuka a large plate of pork and potatoes.

"Thanks a lot! Asuka began eating happily, "What kind of juice you got?"

"Um, I have orange juice." The bartender said nervously.

Asuka nodded his head as he chewed a mouthful of food and a glass of juice was poured for him. He finished his meal and slapped money onto the bar, "Load me up with food and water."

With a barrel of water and lots of meat, Asuka made his way down the street back toward the dock. He couldn't see the drunkard anywhere and began loading up his skiff in silence. For no reason at all he looked up to the sky and spotted a yellow streak zooming through the air. Looking closer it was a cloud. A blue haired girl flew down on the cloud and came to a stop beside him. She wore a pink sweater with blue letters across the chest that read Bulma.

The girl looked at him and then to a device in her hand and back at him. "Hi, um, excuse me." She laughed nervously, "Do you have a Dragon Ball?"

"A Dragon Ball?" Asuka said, confused. "Hm." He dug through his pack and pulled the Six Star Ball out. The ball now glowed a brilliant yellow.

"Bingo!" The girl exclaimed excitedly. She rummaged through her bag and pulled out two other Dragon Balls, the Five and Seven Star Balls. "They glow like this when they get close to other balls, you see."

"What the hell are these?" Asuka looked at the shining orbs and then to the girl, "And who are you?"

"Oh! My name is Bulma." The girl smiled.

"Like, underwear?"

She smacked him across the face with the back of her left hand.

"Sorry!" Asuka laughed and rubbed his face. "I'm Senju D. Asuka, nice to meet ya!"

"Senju D..." Bulma raised an eyebrow, "Where'd you get your Dragon Ball?"

"My dad left it to me. It'll come in handy on my adventure I guess." Asuka slipped his Dragon Ball into his pocket as he spoke.

"Well he's right. These Dragon Balls are ancient relics thought to be a myth from the void century. There are seven in total and if you gather all of them in the same place you can summon the eternal dragon and make a wish!" Excitement and determination flashed in her eyes as she explained things to Asuka.

"Wow! That's awesome! Are you trying to collect all of them?"

Bulma nodded and smiled widely, "I'm gonna gather the seven Dragon Balls and wish myself free from the World Government."

Asuka smiled. "Let's go, then."

"What?" Bulma was taken aback, "What do you mean?"

"Let's go. We'll find them as we adventure around the world!" Asuka cheered. "How do we find them?"

Bulma smiled and flashed her device to him, "This is my Dragon Radar. I built this to read the signatures from the Dragon Balls. I found these two on the Grand Line and it says there are three others here in the North Blue." She looked at her radar and frowned slightly.

"What's the matter?"

"The Dragon Radar says that all of the Dragon Balls are here in the North Blue!" She showed the screen to Asuka and pointed at the dots. "This cluster of three here is us. Then there's one to the east, another southeast and two more have arrived even further east. They must be around the Red Line."

"So then somebody else is searching for the Dragon Balls?" Asuka asked.

"I guess so…" Bulma looked minorly distressed, "We've gotta go and get the balls fast!"

Asuka pointed at his skiff, "Get in."

"What? No." Bulma pulled three little capsules out and tossed them at the skiff. His food, water and backpack were suddenly pulled into the capsules and they bounced around on the boat. "Pick those up and hop on the Flying Nimbus."

Asuka picked up the capsules and jumped onto the back of the cloud, "What the hell did you do?"

"DynoCaps, they earned Capsule Corp their fortune and damn they're handy. You can store most anything in those for easier travel!"

Asuka laughed, "You're a wizard, Bulma."

"More or less, I'm a scientist." She laughed, "Now sit tight!" The Flying Nimbus took off suddenly, zooming through the sky toward their exciting adventure.
