Unknown Location (11 Years in the Past)

Red collapsed to the rocky beach on his back, blood spewing from where the horn had just pierced his chest. The man had fought the good fight, but his wounds were too many and too severe. Using what little strength he had, Red removed his belt with his Pokeballs, and tossed it into the raging waves of the ocean behind him. He could only hope his precious partners would be safe.

"Return Nidoking," said an approaching voice.

Slow methodical footsteps approached the downed trainer, as a well-dressed man came into Red's eyesight. The opulent looking man stared at Red with black eyes and a face filled with amusement.

"It seems being Champion isn't all that it's cracked up to be, is it Red?" taunted the man.

"Y-Y-You cheated... I had you beat!" spit back the gravely injured man.

The other man scoffed. "Cheated? I did what was necessary to ensure victory and to preserve my organization. Only a child, or an idiot would call that cheating. Seeing as you are an adult, I must assume it is the latter."

Red scowled. "People will find out the truth... You can't hide who you are and what you are doing forever," Red said with failing strength.

"Perhaps," conceded the other man with a nod. "However, that is not a certainty. What is certain is that Kanto will soon be needing a new Champion. I'm afraid the current one will mysteriously disappear, never to be seen again," said the man in a mockingly sad manner.

"L-L-Look behind you..." softly muttered Red with a grin.

"What are you babbling about now?" questioned the annoyed man with black eyes. He received an answer in the form of an explosion, shaking the entire island. Turning around slowly, the man's face contorted in rage. The island facilities were in flames and completely destroyed!

"YOU INSOLENT FOOL! DO YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!" yelled the man as he turned around delivered a swift kick to Red's gut.

The downed trained coughed up blood, but still managed to chuckle at the other man's anger. "S-s-sorry. Did I d-do that?"

"Thank to your actions, my plans have set back for at least a decade!" raged the man. With great effort, he regained his composure, before continuing. "No matter... You will die here alone. My organization and I will go on, and my ambitions will be realized!" declared the man. With one final look of loathing, the man with the black eyes headed for the ruins of his once great research facility, leaving Red alone on the rocky beach.

Time passed and darkness began to encroach Red's vision. He could feel the life leaving him. Delia... I'm so sorry, thought the man with regret, as a single tear fell from his eye. Red gave a final breath, and his eyes closed shut forever.

The Champion was dead.

END CHAPTER

This was a special prologue I decided to add to the story. It was posted after the first Lavender Town chapter. Shout out to the inspiration I received from a good critic :)

Hope you enjoyed it!
