Chapter 1 Alliances
"Are you going to reform them?"
"Huh?" Kai Chisaki tilt his head gazing at the little girl in his arms as she points out of the window towards the street as a gang of villains ran amuck crashing out of a convenient store with the full register desk in hand.
He narrowed his eyes as the hero on the scene had his head bashed in by another fleeing thief. It irritated him to no end how people now a days disregard someone's turf and causing issues with his tenants and shop owners of the area. This disease of power syndrome truly got out of hand when the number one hero was forcefully retired and basically gave anyone a chance to rebel with little to no retribution. Everyone from the area knew better to cause issues that would involve the authorities, they knew if you over step you didn't have to worry about getting caught – oh no you worry if you are still breathing once the Yakuza makes an example out of you. It seems there has been many newcomers in his area that are making too much noise for his liking.
Kai sighs, it really has been too many times these past couple of weeks where he had to get involved in settling issues. "Now do you see why our work is so important in making this world a better place?"
She nods slightly she had looked away from the window when the hero was struck her eyes saddened. His phone buzzed in his pocket, he shuffled Eri in one arm having her wrap her arms and legs around him as he fished out the cellphone. He answered, "Get it done, I will be joining shortly send someone my way for Eri." He ended the call gripping the bridge of his nose in annoyance. He peers back at sad red eyes, he knew there was a frown under her red mask, "Sorry our outing got cut short, but I'm sure this issue wouldn't take long. Whoever comes by to pick you up get them to take you to get something to eat, I might be finished before you're done."
"Anything?" She asked her eyes sparkled.
He chuckled slightly, "Actual food, sweets come after."
She grumbles, he sets her down as they left the store. He approached the unconscious hero taking off one glove he swiftly recreated the man's skull, minimizing the injury. Hives broke out on his hand as he hastily put the glove back on, it's the least he can do, he didn't need more new heroes patrolling his area. Eri waited for him on the side walk as he came back grabbing her hand, "Come, there's too much chaos." He noticed the white hood and black plague mask in the crowd as he guided her to Kurono. At least his nerves had lessened with his subordinates able to be wise enough to choose someone who can steadily take care of her.
His golden eyes watched in mild interest at his handy work before him, his subordinates had roughed up the petty thieves before he arrived. He just put the final touches with dismembering them, and reconstructing them with the vehicle. He glared at their frozen pained and horrified expressions as they were illuminated with the flames of the burning vehicle.
He glares at the pitiful villains, "Causing all this noise and their biggest score is a convenient store register? This group had numbers and they couldn't fathom a bigger goal – this sickness to just trot around other people's territories flashing around their quirks just makes me want to eradicate it all."
One of his subordinates pulled him out of his internal rants, "Hey Overhaul we got what we came for, we should hurry up before the authorities show up."
Kai sighs, "Fine, you're right no need to leave a scene." He reassembled the villains from their pathetic states, they eyed him horridly and he sneered, "I will advise you all to wait here for the authorities unless you want to stay in that state forever. Don't make me get involved again – do you understand my gist?"
The petty thieves all freeze up bowing, "Of course!"
Overhaul checked his phone signaling his men, "Let's head out, I'm starving."
His men cheered; his gold eyes fell on a single bystander left in the road. He stared at the masked man, well aware he wasn't from these parts, the locals know to stay out of his way. His men noticed the man as well crowding him threateningly. Overhaul waved them to continue, they grabbed the man pulling him along with them away from the scene.
"Speak quickly, clearly there is something you want if you watched all that." Overhaul remarked, the get-up the man was wearing reminded him of the surveillance videos that have been over the news, "You're from the League, aren't you?" He wasn't a fan of being out in the open with a known villain especially with those white-collar crime heroes breathing down his neck to catch any screw ups he makes.
"Uh yeah! The League are looking for recruits and you guys are just what we are looking for!" The man, Twice, had responded with a nervous hand scratching the back of his head.
The men laughed, "What makes you think we need your group?"
Overhaul raised his hand to silence them, it was intriguing to hear how desperate the League seems to be, "What's in it for me to associate with you people? You are too flashy with the media, what's the point of being hounded down by the authorities just by strolling down the street?" He was curious sure, but he really didn't need more eyes on him. The police already have eyes on him just for being in the Yakuza, they aren't able to put any charges on him to stick in court. But to have him be seen associating with League members? That can give the bastards a foothold in issuing search warrants.
Twice twitched, rambling to himself, "We have a lot of supporters to our cause and sure we are famous but sometimes being famous brings more people. You even heard of us, but if you are hesitant, I'm sure the boss can listen to your concerns."
Overhaul shrugs, "Fine I will hear out what he has to say. But for now, let's split off, I'm really not in the mood for conspiracies the authorities are spooling on our groups, I would rather see it for myself. Here contact me later for the meet up." One of his subordinates' hands Twice his business card as they leave the League member behind.
They created distance from the man through back alleys away from prying eyes. Nemoto spoke up as they neared the back entrance of the restaurant, "Wouldn't getting involved with the League of Villains put more heat on us?"
Overhaul narrowed his eyes at the question, "Yes, but at the moment we are in need of investors and field subjects to test out the product. What better way then have the League's fame help distribute it under the table? We will be able to cover more ground with the number of connections they may have."
"And if it is a bluff? Why they are looking for recruits if they are as famous to the underworld as they say." Nemoto responded nervously.
Overhaul glared at him, "Then we will have one less group for competition."
Nemoto nodded, noticing he had just dodged a bullet from being overhauled as Eri exclaimed excitedly waving them over.
Their Boss pulled up his glove, masking his unpleasantness a moment before as he smirked at the girl. He pats her head as he sat next to her. He placed his mask aside just as the servers place multiple entrees onto the table as the others sat around them.
Kai closed the door to Eri's room, it was troubling putting her down for bed with the excitement of today, he sighs running a hand through his hair. Does he really want to involve himself with the League? They haven't really showed any creditability for alliances especially with how many failures they had resulting in many pawns being apprehended.
What would Pops say? Kai mused over the old man's ideals certainly he would not want them involved in any of this, but what's the point if he wasn't there to call the shots? The old man left him in charge before he went under, so he had to handle keeping the clan in order. He entrusted him with everything, and he needs to prove that he was worthy of that trust.
He noticed his phone blowing up with messages from that League member, he sighs Does it really need to be tonight?
Kai decided to bathed to ease his mind in its paranoia of uncleanliness before his run in with the League of Villains, he unwrapped the bandages around his arm, cleaning out the mended slice. Black tattoos ran down his chest and back illustrating his respected position in the Yakuza. He hunched over glaring at the repeated buzzes of the phone, Unnecessarily desperate for recruits… so annoying. He dried off reading the meet location, it was close to midnight by the time he met up with the man.
He wrinkled his nose in disgust seeing the filthy warehouse Twice was leading him into, So unsanitary… If their hide out was some dingy warehouse, then he would be getting the short end of any type of agreement. He urged himself not to scrub at his sleeves to halt his mysophobia. He scowls under his mask seeing the evident dirt, his eyes lingered on the other members of the League standing around the room observing him like some sort of new gift that was being offered.
"Definitely a big fish you caught Twice, the leader of the Shie Hassaikai, Overhaul. What do we owe this pleasure?" Kai narrowed his eyes at the remark of the big catch, making him think of Nemoto's suggestions of the League bluffing at the might they claim to have over the news. The man before him, clearly was Tomura Shigaraki with that repulsive decayed hand on his face and his pale appearance – just the atmosphere he gave off illustrated he was their boss.
"Is this guy famous or something?" A man carrying a heavy looking support gear asked.
He narrowed his eyes; he was curious what they knew about him too. Shigaraki remarks, "My master showed me a picture of him, he is what you call a Yakuza and he in particular is the number two of the organization." Overhaul found it interesting that the Dark Emperor himself, All for One, took notice of him and the Yakuza.
"What's the big deal? We are all criminals what makes this guy different?" A school girl asked looking up at a man wearing a black and white mask in a top hat.
The top hat sighed, "Ah let me tell you a little story, in the past there were many scary troops that ran the underworld. After heroes start thriving though, they slowly and surely began to disband. When All Might took the stage, their era was over. The Yakuza survivors who weren't caught became render thugs for villains, in other words they were the lowest form of criminal. They're barely scrapping by to make a living, frankly they are obsolete, an endangered species."
Overhaul closed his eyes irritated by the claim, "An endangered species huh? I guess that's true." Sure, at the moment the Yakuza numbers had dwindled compared to his Boss's prime, but Overhaul was on the rise with recruiting new troops from his power outings. And to call them render thugs for villains? Hardly, they didn't work for villains they are their own separate entity that collaborates with villains to gain a profit whether its paid muscle, drug dealing, or dealing weapons.
The same guy that asked if he was famous was cockier, "What is a Yakuza thug from the slums doing here? Let me guess you are excited about All Might's retirement too?"
Really, I'm the one from the slums when you are all held up in a warehouse? I will make you eat your words on how untrue that is. Overhaul smirks under his mask outstretching his hands putting on a kind gesture, "Sure it's great that he's gone. But I am more interested with the fall out of the other side of the spectrum losing All for One too. I've seen the chaos of criminals running amuck without order and the heroes lacking any resolve to contain it. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about; the media is raving about you. Must be difficult staying off the authorities radar."
Shigaraki tsked, "I hear you had some concerns."
Overhaul noticed how Shigaraki kept quiet when his subordinates were tarnishing the Yakuza, he wondered if the League of Villain's boss knew how deeply he is connected to many organizations. Why would Shigaraki care to have him as a game piece in the first place?
"Well, I've stayed cleared from the authorities for years, they could never find anything that can stick charges on me. I am a simple business man. I'm concern with the public outings with being seen with known League members I really don't need any reason for the cops to raid my properties. But I am willing to make an arrangement to help both of us." Overhaul reveled in the surprise gazes from the other members, they truly thought he was a low-level criminal?
"What is it that you want?" Shigaraki asked narrowing his red eyes.
"Investors, you have connections to the low street thugs around the country I have product that can be beneficial to create chaos to society. Going through the chain takes too long I rather have it running on the streets soon to see the progress and get bigger people interested in it with the field test."
"I heard your Trigger drug is already rising in its popularity what more is there?"
Overhaul smirked, "I will give you a taste of this information. I'm making something new that would be a game changer for heroes and villains alike, it's still at its beginning stages and I need the resources and the test subjects to reach the end result."
Shigaraki pondered over the idea, "What do I get out of it?"
Overhaul shrugged then looking smugly towards the uneducated underworld subordinates of the League, "I got connections to the big underground organizations in this country and overseas, they can supply anything you can think of, I'm sure the more radical organizations would jump on having the League of Villains as a client."
"And you are willing to join the League?"
"Like I said, your organization is too noisy. I rather have a secret alliance then a public reveal. Besides it would be best for both of us, I always have police looming around me to try to catch me meddling in anything that seems illegal just so they can prove the Yakuza is an illegitimate organization. It would be more troublesome if you get on the police radar being seen in the area, very few places to hide with the whole police force dedicated to arrest you. Trust me, it's more of a hassle if we are seen being in cahoots together."
Shigaraki mumbled over the suggestion, "Fine, but I don't like being in the dark about this new product you are so inclined to have us be your mule to disperse amongst the rift raft of the cities. I want to know more about it."
Overhaul tossed a bullet to Shigaraki the man fumbled with catching the metal without disintegrating it, "It's at the beginning stage, knock yourself out with a hero and see the result. The finished product will be more devastating, when you are intrigued, we can go further with this alliance." He nodded slightly turning away for his leave.
Curious how little things can change the path of Overhaul, did you catch the little hints? What did you think of the non-hostile take over attempt with the League? It would have been interesting if they actually had a real alliance in the anime to give the heroes more trouble. Next chapter will dive into more backstory! Hope you all enjoyed
