A/N: Welcome to the rewrite of Elements of the Original Dragon! Sorry it took so long to get back to this. Since I got more into HTTYD, I worked primarily on Dragons' Souls alongside getting outlines for this and Remembrance. Not sure when more updates will come. I'm working on a different set of playthroughs for this story that are kind of like a Nuzlocke but the only faints that count as 'deaths' are those against Team Plasma (if you want one that follows actual Nuzlocke rules, I do plan on writing stories featuring a few runs I did with three Nuzlocke characters I made in the future). Plus, gives me a more restricted roster than just picking what I want to use. I'm going as quick as I can at the moment, so feel free to check out my other stories for the time being. Remembrance will more than likely be the next focus after I get Dragons' Souls far enough along and that one follows more of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's storyline than this one. Anyway, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's nor Pokémon. Both go to their respective owners. I only claim my OCs. And prepare the soap for Ren's potty mouth
Prologue:
"*groan* Ellis? Ellis?! No no no, this wasn't supposed to happen!"
"Rreooooo!"
(Ren's POV)
"Get back here!" one of the thugs behind me yelled.
Shit shit shit, how the hell did they find me?! I thought as I ran through the crowded streets of Castelia. I had barely gotten my bearings about come back to this region when I got spotted. Even in being plain clothing, I knew who these two were. Just my luck. Barely here for ten minutes and I already get jumped! I want to know what divine deity thought it'd be so funny making me of all people a 'chosen one!'
I glanced behind me for a brief second to see how close they were only to run smack right into someone. I lost balance and fell on my butt, but it didn't seem like the person I ran into faltered a bit. I only got a confused glance from them.
Before I could apologize, I heard, "There!" from behind. I scrambled back onto my feet.
"'Scuse me!" I shouted, moving around the person I bumped into.
I accidentally ducked down an alley that led to a dead end. When I attempted to double back, the thugs had already caught up to me. Both sported the same malicious grin. "Nowhere you can run now," one taunted.
I reached for a Poké ball on my belt only to feel that sudden shock of power. I shook my head. No, not now! I can't lose control in the middle of a city! But what do I do now? I hadn't yet caught a new Pokémon since coming back here. All my other Pokémon from my previous journey were back home with AJ. No choice. Hopefully, him being a Normal-type won't activate the mark... I reached for the other ball at my belt.
"Hey!" a new voice shouted from behind the thugs. They stopped closing in on me, turning to the voice. I was able to glimpse between them to see it was the guy I had run into earlier. Since I wasn't in a hurry at the moment, I got a better look at him. He had black, spiky hair with gold highlights and dark blue eyes. He also had a strange tattoo under his left eye. "What's going on here?"
"Beat it, kid. This ain't none of your business," one thug retorted.
"Yeah. Better turn back now, or you'll regret it," the other added.
He pulled out a Poké ball, pressing the button to enlarge it. "Well I'm making it my business. Argen, go!" He threw the Poké ball. It flew over the thugs, opening and spilling the light between the guys and me. What came out made my jaw drop.
It was a Luxray. Only, not a normal sized one. It was an absolute tank, standing upright enough that it could look the thugs right in the eye. The Luxray let out a snarl, revealing a row of sharp teeth as electricity crackled over the fur. The thugs got worried looks. "I suggest leaving, or would you rather be on the other end of a Thunder Fang from him?" the guy said. At that command, the top canines of the Luxray lengthened with yellow energy.
That got the two to run, screaming their heads off. The Luxray's fangs returned to normal, the charge in the air dissipating. I fell onto my knees, feeling the adrenaline leaving my body. Holy crap, that was too close for comfort, I thought as I panted for breath. A puff of air ruffling my hair made me jump back a bit as I stared into the gold eyes of the Luxray in front of me. The Pokémon tilted his head, his face scrunching up the silver star-like pattern on his face. "Lux..?"
"H-H-Hi," I stuttered.
"Argen, come back." The Luxray turned back around, trotting back to his Trainer. "Sorry about that. I promise he's harmless. Mostly."
"I'll, um, take your word for it." I swear, they look familiar but from where..? The Trainer came up and helped me back onto my feet.
"You good?"
"Yeah, somehow. Thanks for that."
"No problem. Who were those guys, anyway? If you don't mind me asking."
My hand went to my right arm which was bandaged from the wrist to near my elbow. "I have an idea, but you might not believe me."
"Try me."
"You might want to not go through this thing alone, Ren. I know you don't like asking for help at all, but with what I've been hearing going on right now, you might not have much of a choice," AJ's words echoed in my head. I took a sharp inhale and exhale. "They're...Team Plasma. And they're after me for the mark that's imprinted on my arm. The mark of the Original Dragon.
A/N: And here's where we stop for the moment. I've been kind of experimenting with different sides to Ren. While I have originally written him as a bit cocky in the past, he's not always like that. It's more of a mask to hide the crippling anxiety and depression he's carrying (which I guess could be considered realistic; they say the ones with depression are the ones that are always smiling or something like that). Anyway, I'm not fully throwing that Ren out the window. He'll pop up every now and then, but for the most part, it's going to be a more cautious version of him. I will probably be taking down the other chapters for the time being as this story has changed up (hopefully for the better; not sure yet as I'm working on it best as I can). If I feel it's needed, I might bump up the rating, though. So keep an eye on that. Hope you guys enjoyed! See ya!
PS- If anyone has possible ideas for teams for the YGO 5D's cast, I'd be happy to hear them. Right now, Yusei's going to be soloing with Luxray for the time being.
