Camila Noceda, one of the greatest Waterbender healers of all time, was outside, using her waterbending to water the plants.
"Mija, are you coming?" Camila asked.
Luz came outside with a bag slung over her shoulder. She wasn't very happy, but this was the only option. Now, her mother is a Waterbender and her father was a non bender, so naturally you would assume that Luz is a Waterbender, right? Wrong, she's a Firebender, at least, that was the first element she learned. That's right, this simple fourteen year old girl is the most powerful person in the world. Camila walked over and kissed Luz's head.
"Don't worry, everything will be fine." Camila said.
"Mami, why do I have to do this? People don't need the Avatar anymore."
"Mija, you know you need to master all the elements. You're a Firebending prodigy, but you need to learn Airbending, Waterbending, and Earthbending."
"But I already know the basics of each element and several sub bending styles." Luz said, "Besides, I won't be able to see or contact you for years."
"I know this will be hard, but it has to be done." Camila said, "I have to go to work, your bus will arrive soon. I'll miss you, Mija."
Camila got into her car and left, sending one last glance at Luz. Luz waited until her mom was gone before running back to her room. She put her phone, clothes, and the book she convinced her mom she threw away into her bag. She wasn't going to follow some hundred thousand year old rule when no one needs her. She ran out of the back door and into the woods. When she was running, she tripped over a root and the contents of her bag fell out. Luz looked at the root and stood up. She threw a fist and a stream of blue fire came out and burned the root. She turned back to her stuff and packed it back up.
"Where's my book?"
She looked around and saw an Owl with a big sack of trash... and her book. The Owl flew away.
"Hey, come back here!"
Luz chased after the Owl and ran through the door of an old abandoned house.
"Stop running away you slippery… little… wow."
Luz looked at the creepy stuff and picked up a creepy doll lizard thing.
"Where am I?"
"Finally, you're back!" A mysterious person said.
Luz raised her fist; just in case something happens. She put two fingers up, prepared to send Lightning at someone. She looked out of the tent and saw a woman screw the owl onto a stick.
"Now let's see what you brought back."
She tossed a few expensive things, calling them "Junk". She pulled out Luz's book and looked at it for a quick second.
"And this... will make good kindling." She said, putting over a lit candle.
Luz panicked and hoped her Airbendng was good enough for this. She shot a stream of air at the flame and it went out.
"What the?" The lady said.
She looked at the tent and walked towards it. She peeled back the curtain and saw Luz in a FireBending stance. Eda looked at the girl and noticed something.
"You're a Human."
Luz kept her stance while looking at her book in the woman's hands.
"What of it?" Luz said, "You don't want to fight me, I just want my book back."
Eda looked at the book in her hand and smiled.
"Hmm, so, you want this thing? Well, I'll give it to you-" Luz moved to get it, but Eda held Luz back with a hand while holding the book up, "Only, if you help me with something."
Luz looked at the woman and sighed.
"Fine, what do you need me to do?"
Before Eda could answer, the table behind her had was broken by a hand.
"Eda the Owl Lady, you are under arrest for Misuse of Magic and Demonic Misdemeanors. And you-" He said, pointing at Luz, "You're also Under Arrest, for fraternizing with a criminal!"
Luz didn't look impressed. She only wanted to get her book back and now she was being threatened with prison. She only been here for two minutes and she already doesn't trust the government here if this is how their police operate.
"Okay, okay." Eda said, "Let me just grab my stuff."
She wacked the guard with her staff and used magic to pick up all of her stuff.
"Follow me, Human." Eda said, running through the market.
Luz really began to wonder if her book was worth this.
