AN:
I promised myself that I wouldn't give this fic a rewrite, but alas the rona happened, free time appeared, and I thought 'why the hell not'. I hated the direction the original 'Abyss' was taking and though I did get many a review and DM telling me 'not' to rewrite, the fan-fiction was my baby and so here we are.
I tried to hard to make every Fairy Tail character have a place in Potter Verse and it was difficult to make everyone fit. So I decided that I would stop writing the story I had fallen out of love with.
If you have read the original 'Abyss', you may be surprised to see a few changed here and there - the biggest one being that Lucy will be the main Fairy Tail character and POV for this story rather than an ensemble of main characters from both universes.
Despite this big change, the overall endgame will be the same since Lucy was the main character of abyss and will continue to be in this rewrite.
In case you are wanting to read from a certain point, below is where which chapters cover which HP books. Currently, I am writing The Order of the Phoenix.
Chapters 1 - 18 , Pre Canon
Chapters 19 - 26, The Philosophers Stone
Chapters 27 - 33, The Chamber of Secrets
Chapters 34 - 41, The Prisoner of Azkaban
Chapters 42 - 58, The Goblet of Fire
Chapter 59 - ? - The Order of The Phoenix
Anyway, I own nothing and no one...
Into the Abyss
Chapter One
The Fairy's Tale
A blonde figure hovered gloomily over the smoky blackened island she knew as her final resting place. The sacred ground lay tarnished, forever tainted by the ferocious beast currently swooping the skies. A menacing killing aura leaked from the black dragon and despite the ghosts' dead state, she could feel the very life leaving her astral form. The spiritual form of Mavis Vermillion, the first master of Fairy Tail, flew down into the wreckage. Her children lay battered and broken as the last signs of life fell from their bodies.
Even Makarov, who had grown into a remarkable man and powerful mage had the last of breath escaping him.
"You all fought so well" Mavis whispered solemnly. Her palm rested against Makarov's forehead and the creases of his aged face deepened. The blonde felt her heart lurch as the seen before her and if she possessed one in this spiritual form, it would have broken in two.
"Not…Well…enough" Makarov wheezed out. Aged features contorted in pain before a drawn-out gasp fell past his parted lips and his body stilled. A choked sob fell past Mavis' lips and for once the woman wished this childlike body had ability to share tears. She gently laid Makarov's body to rest as she brought comfort to the rest of her children. Waiting by each of their sides, Mavis finally came beside the celestial mage of the guild. The blonde's brown eyes filled with warmth at the sight of her despite her injuries and Mavis gently ran her fingers through the blonde's matted hair.
"Shodai…I'm scared" Lucy whimpered, her hands grasped at Mavis' dress, lips wobbling as she fought to fight back tears.
"I'm right here" Mavis replied softly. Lucy's nodded; eyes filled with determination as weak shaky fingers grasped at the keys held at her belt.
"Take care of them for me?" Lucy begged; Mavis blinked in shock. She had never known celestial mages personally before, but she knew that entrusting another mage with their keys was not something to be taken lightly.
"I'll guard them with my life" Mavis said with sincerity. This seemed to appease the blonde celestial mage as she fell back with a relieved gasp as all her previous strength left her body.
"Thank you" Lucy whispered. Mavis merely nodded in response. Sorrow filled the woman at the notion of failing those close to her once more. Was she doomed to lose all that she loved? As if answering her call the golden keys in her hand glowed with life, as if all the spirits inside felt the pain of their dying master. As a being of magic in a spiritual form, Mavis could feel the power radiating from the celestial spirits, their cries to help ease the pain of their master and their friends.
"My Fairy sphere may have failed to save your life here" Mavis whispered as the power from the celestial spirits ran through her body "But combined with the spirits of the celestial plain, it will give you new life!" White light filled her palms and raising them to the sky she shot out the bright beam into the heavens. Even the black dragon roared in fear as the light formed the insignia of Fairy Tail. A symbol of hope which would guide her children to the next world.
"May the stars guide you, my children" Mavis whispered. "Fairy Sphere!" A watery smile formed on her lips as she felt the last of her magic leaving her spiritual form. A dome of bright light formed around the mages, shielding them from the dragon who readied to attack once more. Now spent and exhausted, the spirit of Mavis Vermillion was pulled from the physical realm.
The celestial keys clattered to the ground.

Falling. Lucy was falling; her arms were slowly flailing around her in a pure thick blackness. Her lips parted as a scream tore through her throat, yet the sound echoed around her in a mockery of her fear and reminding her that she was indeed alone. A gust of cold wind tossed her body backwards in its free fall, the teenager was sent spiralling downwards. Purple smoke like clouds drifted past her, the sight all too like the celestial spirit world that Lucy feared that she had somehow been transported to the realm of her summons.
A strangled cry filled her ears, the sound not quiet to Lucy, but the blonde knew that it didn't come from her own lips. She struggled to turn her body as it twisted and rolled through the air, but she finally could make out the shape of a body hurtling towards her at an alarming rate.
"Natsu!" Lucy gasped out in relief. Her arms reached out, silently asking for her friend to come to her to comfort her like he had done many times before. Her response was a wide grin, all toothy and all too boyish and a wide smile of her own threatened to split her face apart as Natsu's fingers reached towards her own.
"Take my hand, Luce" Natsu cried out. Lucy nodded, her hand mere inches away from his own when suddenly a white-hot heat began to consume Natsu. She had seen Natsu's flames before but not a single slither of orange coated his skin, instead the dragon slayer's body was bathed in a blinding white light. He was falling away from her; the light was taking him, and Lucy so desperately wanted to hold onto him. A scream tore through her throat as the light started to dim, taking Natsu along with it.
Her fingers grasped onto his arms, frantically pulling his body towards her, but it was no use. Sun kissed skin was turning transparent as he disappeared from her very eyes.
"Natsu…please don't leave" Lucy begged, she could feel his arms wrap around her, but his hold was weak. Realisation seemed to cloud his forest green eyes for a wistful smile formed on the dragon slayers face.
"I'm sorry, Luce" Natsu whispered before he disappeared and left Lucy alone.

Lucy never liked being alone, it reminded her of the weeks leading up to her mama's death when her father threw himself into his work and left a young Lucy to her own devices. The servants would take her to visit her mama, a once beautiful woman full of life, now reduced to a thin shell. She wondered what she looked like right now, lost without her friends and wasting away in this strange thick darkness. This place had no day, only night and in the abyss, Lucy felt no hunger only the bitter ache of loneliness.
She often spent her time She wondering when the light would take her; would it take her to Natsu? Or perhaps someplace worse than the darkness?
A gasp left her lips as silver starts lazily drifted into her view. They were her first signs of light in what felt like years. Cautiously, Lucy reached a slender index finger out to touch the tiny balls of heat. The star blinked, almost as in annoyance as it was disturbed from its impressive glow. Slowly, it drifted towards her and Lucy could feel the heat radiating from the star against her skin. Its light increased in intensity, glowing from a soft silver to a blinding white.
It tore through her skin and felt like every cell in her body was on fire. Tears filled her eyes and she grit her teeth through the pain. Looking down, Lucy realised that her limbs were fading from view- she was disappearing! Her body being stripped away as only the spirit of Lucy Heartfilia remained. Where was the light taking her and would she see her friends- no- her family again?
If anyone was to ask what being born felt like, then Lucy would describe the sensation as positively strange. Her entire body felt as if it were being run through a constriction tube whilst simultaneously being flung down a water slide. Combined with being covered in an odd sticky and downright repugnant substance, Lucy was certain that this experience was revolting. With that her little features contorted, and she started to wail. Unable to move her limbs she simply stayed still as the odd little creature cradled her in its spindly arms and handed her off into the open arms of a pale haired woman lying tiredly. The woman spoke softly in a language Lucy had only heard whispers off back in Fiore but was considered a 'dying' one by the wider population. The woman's voice was soft, almost ethereal and combined with the genteel way she held Lucy's tiny body to her bosom, she knew that this woman was her mother.
The world was blurry, and the room was dark, but Lucy allowed herself to be lulled to sleep by her mother's soft voice.
She didn't get a glimpse of her father until seven days after her birth. The faces of those around her remained blurry from a distance and those who plunged their faces mere inches away from her own tended to bring about a crying fit much to the annoyance of the woman who looked like a dark haired version of her mother. Lucy was currently enjoying a feeding time; her mother's movements were clumsy, and she sometimes fed her a little bit too often than her tiny body needed. But Lucy mused that her pretty mama – a name she had picked up because no one could replace her old mama- wasn't fully prepared to the new role and would need as a much assistance as possible.
Dark haired mama, who Lucy was convinced was insane would attempt to demonstrate just how to take care of Lucy's tiny new body. But her demonstrations were a little too vigorous and unable to shout, 'get off me you crazy witch!' the tiny body of a once Lucy Heartfilia would scream until her face turned apple red and could only be calmed down by her Pretty Mama.
This time, Lucy was not comforted by the soft voice of Pretty Mama. She was not held against soft curves or met with the smell of spearmint and cinnamon but held against a broad chest and meticulous pats against her tiny back. This new person lifted her to view, held close to this person who was clearly a male, Lucy could make out piercing blue eyes and pale brows. If it wasn't for the fact that he was scowling, Lucy would have thought this man to be handsome. The man turned his scowl from Lucy to crazy dark-haired mama and instantly a loud cackle filled the air before the insane woman high tailed it out of the room. Lucy hoped that she would never see crazy dark-haired mama again.
It wasn't until after six months of being around her parents that Lucy recognised her new name. The strange cries of the word 'Celeste' had left both her Pretty Mama and her Pretty Papa's lips numerous times and it had taken Lucy a little while to realise that when they said this strange command, they were talking to her. Lucy was a little embarrassed to admit this, for the former celestial mage was convinced that her parents were expecting her to do something despite her tiny body not being capable of doing much…well other than sleeping and crying that was.
Her nursery, a large room with a black and emerald green motif was the main room in the house she inhabited. But Lucy longed to see more. Her parents rarely took her elsewhere, and it seemed they were content to leave her to her own devices until it was time to feed, change or put her to bed. Even then it was mostly the strange, greyish, spindly limbed creature who cared for her. Its large glassy eyes were like pools of sadness and it skin looked to be pulled painfully over its skeletal frame. She wasn't sure just where she was to see a creature like this, especially one that took care of babies.
There surely weren't any babysitters like this back on Earthland. Lucy was wondered if she was on Earthland at all.
The spindly babysitter creature laid Lucy on her back in the playroom after a much-needed change. Lucy was grateful for its care for there had been many occasions where pretty mama had forgotten to change her and had left poor Lucy lying in her own soiled nappy for hours on end. Lucy had never been a mother in her past life, but she was certain that leaving a baby in a soiled nappy wasn't exactly the best thing to do.
The creature placed a small toy, a stuffed dragon her line of vision. Lucy had played this game plenty of times and knew that the moment she would reach stubby limbs towards her prize, her babysitter would pull the toy from her grasp. But this was the only attention she received these days, so Lucy played this game with vigour. A giggle fell past her lips as her lips split into a smile, her babysitter smiled back, as its floppy ears flipped too and fro much like an ecstatic puppy.
Rolling onto her tummy, Lucy attempted to reach for her babysitters' floppy ears. But her little arms could only reach so far. Despite this, she enjoyed her little game.
"Celeste Malfoy must be hungry" Her babysitter said. Spindly arms gathered beneath her armpits and Lucy was held in thin arms. She was starting to understand bits of the new language but most words she knew were limited. She hoped she would be able to talk soon, because there were a lot of questions Lucy had about her new home.
ɪɴᴛᴏ ᴛʜᴇ ᴀʙʏss….ssʏʙᴀ ᴇʜᴛ ᴏᴛɴɪ
Her first steps were nothing like the grand affair Makao had described. Lucy had remembered little of her first months of her previous life but hearing the story of little Romeo's first steps from his starry eyed father, Lucy had expected the milestone to be a little different. Her Pretty Mama released her hands from her own grip and after a few stumbles, Lucy toddled her way towards her pretty mama with her little arms spread wide.
"Come to me, Celeste" Pretty Mama ordered softly. She was wearing a lovely navy dress today, Pretty Mama tended to wear dark colours, but Lucy mused that she would look better in brighter colours. She had the passing thought that maybe her new parents, Pretty Mama and Pretty Papa were part of a dark guild. But then, she never saw them use any sort of magic, only wave around strange little sticks.
With determination, Lucy stepped once- twice until the relatively small gap between herself and her parent was clear, and she was clinging to her mother like a lifeline. Instantly, she was scooped up as pretty mama marched towards the large staircase and into a small room she had entered only once before. Her father's study.
The man was hunched over, and Lucy could sense a strange tiredness radiate from him despite it being only midday. Pretty Mama spoke a few words in the strange garbled language, her voice tinged with pride. Her limited understanding of language could only make out her new name, Celeste - which was rather fitting considering her old magic - but Lucy knew that they were talking about her, most likely her previous achievement of walking. Her father sighed, a tired sound, and he stood and patted her on the head. It was a little rough, but she made no sound. The last time she did, Pretty Papa had shouted at her until she cried herself to sleep.
Pretty Mama seemed satisfied with this and left, softly cradling Lucy to her bosom. The action perplexed the tiny babe, but she warmed into the embrace unaware of the struggles her father was facing.
It was three days before her first birthday when Lucy discovered magic. Pretty Mama had taken her to a seamstress who specialised in baby and toddler clothes and the outing served as only her third venture into the outside world. She wondered why Pretty Mama rarely took her outside, surely babies needed fresh air and there was only so long a grown woman could stay cooped up inside the manor. But Lucy had never really been around many babies before, so would did she know?
Pretty Mama dressed her in green robes and a matching green cap, gave her kiss to her brow and placed her into the pram. Lucy fussed somewhat, giving a childish cry of 'no mama' one of the few words she could fully muster in this body. She wanted to walk. To her annoyance, her Pretty Mama merely giggled in response not fully understanding that Lucy did not want the pram and wanted to gain some semblance of independence. The pram was hot, and the green dressed she was currently wearing was uncomfortable, so in short Lucy was not happy. She attempted to portray her distress to her Pretty Mama, but the woman only seemed to be amused at the picture Lucy's scowl painted and continued to babble away using words Lucy couldn't quite understand.
To Lucy's confusion, her Pretty Mama wheeled the pram into the large fireplace and called out a strange word. Confusion faded to shock as green flames surrounded them with a loud roar and the living room faded from view. She didn't know she was crying until her pretty mama started to gently rock the pram back and forth. Her cries subsided to sniffles, fully allowing Lucy to take in the new surroundings of a bustling street akin to the market districts of Magnolia. Somehow her pretty mama had used the fireplace to get them here … some form of teleportation magic but using fire. Lucy mused that it was a form of transportation that Natsu would like. At the thought of her friend, Lucy's little hands balled to fists, her eyes scrunched up and she wailed once more.
It took pretty mama a little longer to calm her down this time, Lucy felt guilty at how the woman was now holding her awkwardly with one hand whilst pushing the pram with the other. With her head comfortably cushioned against her pretty mama's shoulder, Lucy could get a clear view of the world around her. Her eyes wide as she stared at the people bustling by; they were dressed in corseted dresses, billowing capes and odd pointed hats. Their peculiar dress was enough to rouse a giggle from the tiny babe, for she would never allow herself to walk out in a large pointed ice cream cone- even if it was all the rage.
The peculiarity of it all was a little overwhelming, but Lucy stayed quiet as her pretty mama walked into the seamstress shop. She watched with wide eyes the pudgy seamstress pulled a long thin stick from her cloak, gave it wave and instantly fabric started to fly through the air. A happy gurgle left Lucy's parted lips as the fabric contorted and twisted. Little needles soon joined the intricate dance and quickly the mass of fabric formed a beautiful pale blue dress fit for tiny body.
"Such a delightful girl" The portly woman commented with a smile. Lucy decided that she liked this seamstress as the woman continued to coo at her as she even tickled her tummy.
"She is isn't she" Pretty Mama commented, a wistful smile on her face as she scooped Lucy up into her arms "My husband was rather delighted to find that our daughter even has a strong magical core- one much larger than a baby her age" Pretty Mama added with a proud smile.
The prospect of magic in this world brought hope, for maybe, just maybe, she could find a way home
