Prologue: Searching for the Past and the Future

Today, six months have passed since the death of the Demon Emperor. Half a year has passed since the man who had managed to conquer the world and become the greatest dictator in the history of mankind had perished, it should be a day when everyone should be happy, but there were many people who could only feel sadness and regret, among them was a young Empress named Nunnally vi Britannia with her knight Zero.

The Empress was a 16-year-old girl with beautiful amethyst-colored eyes and a slender body that made her look younger than she really was. Her hair, of a beautiful blonde color, resembled sand, and she wore an elegant dress that covered a large part of her body.

The Knight wore his typical purple and black attire with golden accents, he was not wearing his characteristic cloak at the moment, but, as always, he wore the helmet that for the world had already become a symbol of peace and justice.

"Brother, forgive me again for having abandoned you," says the young Empress who was currently resting in her chambers while trying her best not to cry. "I still don't fully understand; Why did you decide to follow this path? Even when I could see your memories everything was so confusing and fast."

"Your Majesty, it is only one hour before the ceremony begins, you must prepare yourself." Zero warns the Empress as gently as possible. "I know it is painful for you, but for the sake of peace it is necessary."

Nunnally releases a single tear from her eye. "I know, it's what my brother would have wanted, but it hurts to know that everyone sees him as a tyrant, even though all he wanted was for the world to be a kinder place."

"No doubt it's what your brother would have wanted, but things never work out perfectly," a female voice with a mocking tone was suddenly heard.

Zero immediately gets into position to defend his Empress. "Who's there?"

"You can call me D.S., and you don't have to be so worried, Zero. I'm not your enemy," the strange voice says again in such a way that it was obvious that the whole situation seemed amusing to her. "Or would you prefer me to call you by your real name, Suzaku Kururugi?"

"I don't know what you're talking about, Suzaku Kururugi died in battle," says Zero, or rather Suzaku as he leaves his defensive pose and tries not to panic at hearing his true identity being told in front of the Empress.

"Don't bother, Suzaku," says Nunnally trying to calm him down. "You don't have to try to hide who you are now, it's obvious she knows."

"Your... Majesty." Suzaku replies, not knowing what to say.

"We will talk about this later Suzaku, but first we should concentrate on Miss D.S. and find out what she is looking for."

Suzaku nods as he moves back into a defensive stance. "Yes, Your Majesty!"

"Calm down, you don't have to worry about hiding your true identity from me, Zero," says D.S. in a calm tone. "Soon, you'll see that you can't hide anything about this world from me."

"What are you looking for? Why are you doing this?" Nunnally asks suddenly as she tries to search with her eyes for the source of the voice.

A mocking laugh echoes through the room. "I'm just looking for a little entertainment, and I think this thing I want to give you can help us both and a lot of other people."

Nunnally shows a confused expression as she doesn't understand what the mysterious woman could give her. "What do you mean?"

"I can give you keys to the past, to the truth." D.S. replies, becoming strangely serious. "Wouldn't you like to know the whole truth about your brother? To know what led Lelouch vi Britannia to become the Demon Emperor?"

Nunnally's eyes go wide. "To know what led my brother to become the Demon Emperor?" she asks, the young Empress almost unable to believe what she just heard.

"Exactly. I can show you things that even your knight does not know, information that only the Emperor and his accomplice knew."

"By accomplice you mean C.C.?" Suzaku asks while remembering the woman who had accompanied his best friend throughout his journey.

A small chuckle is heard again. "Right, I can show you information that only the two of them knew, and even show you something that no one but me knows in this whole world." D.S. says smugly. "Tell me, wouldn't you like to know the future and the problems that occur in this one?"

Suzaku frowns as he can't believe what he is hearing. "Are you kidding? Do you really expect us to believe that you can show us the future?"

The voice laughs. "It's not my problem if you believe me or not, I'm simply giving the Empress the opportunity to discover the truth she longs for and to be able to avoid a problem in the future. It's her choice to decide if she wants to accept my gift or not."

"I accept!" shouts Nunnally suddenly.

"Your Majesty!" Suzaku quickly exclaims as he turns to look at his Empress. "This is not what your brother would have wished for."

Nunnally bites her lip, but finally says, "I know. Believe me Suzaku, I know. But I want to know the truth, I need to know it. Besides, we can't be sure what Miss D.S. would do if we don't accept." Nunnally's words are almost said in a pleading tone, then she gets a look of determination. "Also, I think the chance to see the future and prevent the peace my brother accomplished from being disturbed is important enough to take the risk."

"Your Majesty..." says Suzaku, seeing Nunnally's serious expression. "If that is what you wish, then I will gladly follow your decision."

"Thank you, Suzaku," says Nunnally with a look of happiness that quickly changes to one of seriousness. "Miss D.S., we are ready to hear from you."

Once again the strange voice lets out a strange laugh. "Then, let's start the show. To begin, you should check the Empress' night table."

"The nightstand of the Empress?" Suzaku says confused, and then notices that on the nightstand that was previously unoccupied lay four curious objects.

The four objects were three disc boxes, and a piece of paper that appeared to be a list. Each box contained on its cover the letter R and a number, with one box having the number 1, the next the number 2, and the final box the number 3. The list contained several names of people who were known to both Nunnally and Suzaku.

"These three discs will show the truth, you will have to check them in the numerical order I have given you; the first two contain information about the past, while the third shows the future," D.S. explains to the Empress and the masked man, who were curiously observing the boxes and the list.

Suzaku stops looking at the objects for a moment. "What's with the strange list? Why do the names of several acquaintances appear?"

"The names that appear on that list are the people that should be with you at the moment of witnessing the contents of the discs. If I see that the right people are not present at the moment of visualizing what the disks contain, then I promise you that I will not show you anything. I must also warn you that the future you will see is one that would have happened if I had decided not to give you this opportunity to see what really happened."

Suzaku checks the list, but stops when he notices something. "Wait a moment. I couldn't help noticing that for some reason C.C. doesn't appear on the list. I don't understand why someone you call Lelouch's accomplice wouldn't be on this list, while I am."

"Very observant," says D.S. with a touch of amusement. "The reason why she is not on the list will also be revealed on the third disc, but let's just say that she is currently looking for a way for a promise to be fulfilled."

Suzaku nods in understanding. "I see; I guess that's all you want to tell us."

"Not quite, I just need to explain one last thing," says D.S. quickly. "I arranged things on the discs in such a way that it simulates one of those series and movies that you humans watch for entertainment. Specifically, the first two discs each contain 25 recordings lasting a little more than 20 minutes each, while the third disc contains only one recording, but it lasts almost two hours, so you should plan things accordingly so that the whole audience has enough time to watch everything I have to show you."

"May I ask why you did it this way?" asks Nunnally curiously.

A small snort is heard. "I simply made it this way to make it more convenient for all of you. I originally planned for the three discs to all be like a movie, but in order to do that I would have to remove too much information of great importance, so I simply decided to make the first two discs like a series."

"I see. In any case, I want to thank you Miss D.S. for the opportunity you have given us," says Nunnally with genuine appreciation.

"No, don't," says D.S. mockingly. "I'm not doing this out of the goodness of my heart, I'm simply looking to entertain myself, besides you shouldn't forget that the truth can also hurt. Not everyone will be so happy to discover the true story of Lelouch vi Britannia, after all, some simply prefer to live their whole lives in a perfect fantasy, and don't forget that these recordings not only contain the truth about your brother, they also contain the truth about many other people, especially about your knight and the woman who accompanied your brother. Answer me, do you think you will be able to bear the burden of revealing the story of even those who do not want it?"

"I will, and believe me when I say that I know the truth can hurt," Nunnally replies with a serious expression. "After all, I've never felt such pain as I did when I found out what my brother was really after."

"Maybe you are more mature than I initially thought," says D.S. with a voice that even sounded like she was proud of the young Empress. "Well, that's all I have to tell you, I can't wait to see your reactions to the truth, see you later Empress Nunnally, and see you later, Suzaku Kururugi."

Immediately after hearing how D.S. said goodbye, both Nunnally and Suzaku somehow knew that she had already left, even though they had not been able to see her in the first place at any time.

"Suzaku," Nunnally says solemnly as she turns to see her old friend. "After the ceremony, please make all the necessary preparations to be able to check these recordings, try to make it as fast as possible, ask Brother Schneizel for help if you think it is necessary."

"Yes, Your Majesty!" proclaims the masked man, only to immediately realize that the ceremony was only 15 minutes away. Apparently their talk with the mysterious D.S. had lasted longer than expected. "Your Majesty, we must hurry, we only have 15 minutes left for the ceremony to begin," he says, as he quickly begins to help the Empress get ready.

"You're right, Suzaku," says Nunnally as she fixes herself with a cheerful smile full of determination, after all, the faster the ceremony happened, the faster she could find out the truth. "Soon brother, soon I will be able to see what you had to go through."

Upon finishing their preparations, both occupants quickly exit the room, each with a touch of apprehension for what awaited them, but with a determination that only a ruler and a hero would be capable of displaying.

Welcome to all readers, both those who have already read the original version and those who see my story for the first time thanks to this translation. I hope you enjoy the prologue. Well, seriously speaking, as you will see, this is a translation of my story, one that I have wanted to do from almost the beginning, but that until now I had not been able to try to make possible. The safest thing is that this chapter has many errors, after all English is not my native language and I had never really done a translation, so I would appreciate it if you leave your comments about what you think about the quality of the chapter. This chapter in itself served as a kind of test to see if I could really do a translation of my original story, since I know that I need an editor or beta reader so that this translation really has the quality that all of you deserve, so if someone would like to help me by volunteering for one of those two positions, I would really appreciate it.

I really don't know when I will be able to update this translation, I would like to have the schedule I have with the original version, which is a new chapter in a week or two, but I know that doing that may be difficult, so excuse me if the updates are a little more sporadic, although I will try to make each update happen on Fridays, so that people do not get confused believing that I update the original version.

Extra note: I want to thank blackramen6669 for giving me his support as editor for this version of the story, now the chapter is edited so that there are less errors and everything is much more fluid. Hopefully I can have his support for the rest of the story.

The author's notes like the ones below are translations of my notes in the original story, and in the following chapters only those will be seen without anything new, unless I have some news related to the translation.

N/A: Hello to all readers to my first story, for quite some time I've wanted to create a story of this kind about Code Geass, originally I was only thinking about showing the series, but when I saw that the manga of Re;surrection seemed to be set in the timeline of the series and not the compilation movies, I decided to implement it too, obviously making some small changes like the whole issue of Shirley's death to make sense. So what did you think about the prologue of this story? The next chapters will be longer obviously, but I hope this chapter went well, as I said before this is my first story, so if you see any mistake in continuity or grammar don't hesitate to comment on it.

Nunally's status as empress is not a mistake, I know that for the movie she is no longer empress, but I don't seem to remember that we were told at some point when she resigned her position as empress, so I'm going to say that she still is, although she is planning to resign as soon as possible, but if I'm wrong feel free to comment.

I have been able to read other stories of this type, but as they were all in English I decided that I would write this one in my native language so that it would be easier for me to write it, I have also seen that the others of this type always concentrate more than anything in Lelouch, which makes sense seeing that he is the protagonist, but I also wish in this story to give more attention to Suzaku and C.C., because I have always believed that the two of them together with Lelouch are the most important characters of the whole series, so I want to show how the destinies of Suzaku and C.C. are linked to Lelouch.
