"Victor and Gloria are two young friends who set out on a Pokémon journey, with Victor dreaming of entering the Galar League by completing the Gym Challenge. They face many challenges and have just as many adventures along the way, but none of that prepared them for the discovery they made with their friend Sonia at Stow-on-Side…"
"The Mother of Pokémon Battles"
"I am Gillian, from Galar News Network," Gillian is standing in front of the damaged mural at Stow-on-Side, talking into her microphone. "And I'm at the famed Stow-on-Side mural after an act of vandalization, a stunning discovery was made." She turns to the damaged mural. "Two statues, of never before seen Pokémon were found."
Gillian walks over to Sonia, standing before the hole in the mural, before continuing, "And I have Sonia, granddaughter of Professor Magnolia, and professor in her own right. Sonia, please, can you tell us what you made of this discovery?"
Sonia turns to face Gillian, and the camera focuses on them, "Well, for years it was believed that the Darkest Day that once threatened Galar was stopped by a singular king with a sword and a shield. But these statues paint a different picture."
"How so?" Gillian asks.
"As you can see, one of the Pokémon is holding a sword and the other seems to be in possession of a shield," Sonia looks back to the statues. "And they are both standing in front of kings, suggesting that it was two kings and their sword and shield were really Pokémon." She turns back to the camera. "Of course, this is just speculating right now, but I am planning on continuing to look into it."
"Excellent, thank you, very much," Gillian says, before turning back to the camera. "Also with Sonia at the time of the discovery was a pair of Trainers that I have previously met, and I was able to get a few words with."
Victor and Gloria are standing in front of a camera, with Victor very stiff and sweating.
"These are Victor and Gloria, two Trainers from Postwick," Gillian starts. "Victor recently moved from Kanto, but he already got endorsed to take part in the Gym Challenge and has an impressive lineup of Pokémon, Scorbunny, Corviknight, Pikachu, and Toxel."
Images of Victor's Pokémon appear next to Victor as Gillian lists them.
"As well as got a good start on the Gym Challenge, having won the Grass Badge from Milo, the Water Badge from Nessa, the Fire Badge from Kabu, and the Ghost Badge from Allister."
Pictures of the Gym Leaders appear as Gillian names them.
"And while she isn't taking part in the Gym Challenge, Gloria had also gotten a strong party of Pokémon, Sobble, Orbeetle, and Sirfetch'd."
Images of Gloria's Pokémon appear next to Gloria as Gillian lists them.
"Now, Victor, Gloria, what was your reaction to what was behind the mural?" Gillian asks the two Trainers.
"Well, it was unexpected, Gillian," Gloria says. "I mean, I don't think anyone would've thought there would be statues hidden behind the mural."
Victor gives a very nervous smile and slowly nods his head.
"Thank you both, very much," Gillian says.
In the Pokémon Center, Victor and Gloria sit down on a bench, breathing sighs of relief.
"Glad that was over," Victor says, as Gloria nods her head. "I just wonder if we should've told people about seeing those Pokémon before."
"I think Sonia's right," Gloria looks over to her friend. "It could be dangerous if people go wander into Slumbering Weald looking for them."
"Right," Victor agrees.
"At least the interviews and the crazinesses are over," Gloria says.
Sonia approaches the two, handing them water bottles, "Unfortunately, the craziness might have just started. And I'm sorry for getting you both involved."
Victor takes his water bottle, "None of what happened was your fault, Sonia."
Sonia sighs, "That's not what I meant."
Suddenly, Vicki, Victor's mother, and Glory, Gloria's mother, enter the Pokémon Center.
"Victor!"
"Gloria!"
Victor and Gloria stand straight up, "Mom?!"
"What are you doing here?" Gloria asks, as their mothers approach them.
"We saw your interview on TV and immediately took the Corviknight Taxi to here," Glory explains.
"Oh, Victor, how are you doing?" Vicki gets close. "Have you been eating enough? Getting plenty of sleep? Staying out of danger."
Victor gives a small smile, with a sweatdrop, "Everything's been okay, mom, there's nothing to worry about."
Vicki steps back and sighs, "That's relief."
"It really is, although parents will never stop worrying about their children," Glory adds.
"We know, mom," Gloria smiles.
"Oh, I almost forgot, the interview said you both caught a lot of Pokémon," Vicki says.
"Yeah, want to meet them?" Victor asks, before Vicki and Glory nod their heads. Victor then holds up four Poké Balls, before throwing them. "Alright, come out, everyone!"
"You guys, too," Gloria throws three Poké Balls.
After a flash of red energies, standing before Victor and Gloria are Scorbunny, Corviknight, Pikachu, Toxel, Sobble, Orbeetle, and Sirfetch'd.
"Guys, this is my mom," Victor says.
"And this is my mom," Gloria adds.
"Hi there, Sobble," Glory says, with Sobble slides to behind Gloria's leg, with Glory sweatdrops. "I see still not over that shyness, huh?" She then looks at the other Pokémon. "An Orbeetle, you looks great, and Sirfetch'd, your feathers seemed to shine."
"Sir…" Sirfetch'd looks at Gloria, imagining her dresses as a princess, before looking to Glory, seeing her as an queen. Sirfetch'd then knees in front of Glory, bowing its head, "Sir, fetch."
"Hum, thanks you…" Glory says, with Gloria sighing.
"Corviknight, I saw your Gym Battle, you were magnificent," Vicki says, with Corviknight standing proudly. "Pikachu, I remember seeing a bunch of you in Kanto, and Toxel, are you just a cutie pie."
"Pika."
"Toxe."
Pikachu and Toxel look at each other, smiling.
"Oh, and Scorbunny…" Vicki starts.
"Scor," Scorbunny smiles.
"Wow, I'm surprised you haven't evolved yet," Vicki says.
"Scor…" Scorbunny looks away, slightly frustrated.
Through the Pokémon Center's window, Silicobra is watching everything from outside, "Sili…"
Sonia is watching, with a slight smile, before a ring gets her attention. She then pulls out her Rotom Phone, holding it up, "Grandma?"
"I saw your interview, you did a good job and I'm looking forward to your essay on this discovery," Professor Magnolia says, as she appears on the Rotom Phone screen.
"Thanks, Grandma, but I still got a lot of work to do before I get to that part," Sonia says.
"With that said, it's not the only reason I called you," Professor Magnolia says. "Have you seen the announcement?"
"Announcement?" Sonia asks, as Victor, Gloria, and their moms look over.
Professor Magnolia nods her head, "I'll send it to your Rotom Phone, and talk with you later."
Sonia lets go of her Rotom Phone, as it flies back and starts to play a video, while everyone's watching.
Appearing on the Rotom Phone is Leon, "I know everyone is both confused and excited about the recent discovery in Stow-on-Side, as such, it had been decided Galar needs a reason to unite as soon as possible and that the Galarian Star Tournament will be revived to serve that purpose. And like it has always been historically, anyone can enter. More concrete information will be announced later today."
The Rotom Phone flies back to Sonia, who looks at it in her hand, "The Galarian Star Tournament, really, Leon?"
"Wow, the Galarian Star Tournament," Vicki puts a finger to her chin.
"That surely brings back memories," Glory smiles.
"What's the Galarian Star Tournament?" Gloria asks.
Glory looks over to her daughter, "It's a multi battle tournament where anyone can enter, whether they're in the Gym Challenge or not."
Gloria looks over to Victor, who is mumbling, "A tournament…"
"Yeah, and back in the day, Glory and I were former winners," Vicki says.
Victor and Gloria look to their mothers, surprised.
"You were?" Gloria asks.
Vicki smiles, then looks at the Pokémon, who are mingling among themselves, before looking back at her son and Gloria, "I know, how about you two have a multi battle against me and Glory."
"Wait, what?!" Gloria asks, as she and Victor continue to look surprised.
Inside the Stow-on-Side Stadium, Victor and Gloria are standing on one side of the arena, with Vicki and Glory on the other side.
"I don't believe this is happening," Gloria says to Victor. "How did our moms even get Allister to let us use the Stadium?"
Glory looks over to the stands, where Allister is seating next to Sonia, and waving at him, "Thanks a lot, sweetie."
Allister just stares ahead with his mask, as he covers in sweats.
"I really feel sorry for him," Gloria watches the scene, with Victor nodding his head.
"Okay, kids, we'll be using the same rules as the Galarian Star Tournament," Vicki starts. "Each Trainer only allows the use of one Pokémon, and only one Trainer on each team is allowed to Dynamax their Pokémon."
"And now the rules are cleared, I will referee this battle" Dan the referee appears on the side of the arena. "Let's get started."
"Dan, the referee?" Victor looks over to him, surprised.
Gloria places a hand on her hip, "This is starting to get surreal."
"Choose your Pokémon," Dan instructs.
"Right," Victor holds up a Poké Ball and throws it. "Let's go, Pikachu!"
The Poké Ball opens and shoots out red energy, which forms Pikachu, "Pika Pika!"
Gloria throws a Poké Ball, "I choose Sobble!"
The Poké Ball opens and shoots out red energy, which forms Sobble, "Sobbl."
"Let's go, honey," Vicki throws a Poké Ball. "Go, Munchlax!"
The Poké Ball opens and shoots out red energy, which forms Munchlax, "Lax."
"You too, sweetie," Glory throws a Poké Ball. "Meowth!"
The Poké Ball opens and shoots out red energy, which forms Kantoian Meowth, "Meowt!"
"That right, I forgot Victor's mom has a Munchlax," Gloria says, as her Rotom Phone flies up.
"Munchlax, the Big Eater Pokémon, It stores food beneath its fur. It might share just one bit, but only if it really trusts you."
"So, Gloria's mom has a Meowth from Kanto," Victor realizes, as his Rotom Phone flies up.
"Meowth, the Scratch Cat Pokémon, It washes its face regularly to keep the coin on its forehead spotless. It doesn't get along with Galarian Meowth."
"Now, if everyone's ready," Dan holds up an arm. "Let the battle begin!"
"Alright, Pikachu, get in close with Quick Attack!" Victor instructs.
"Sobble, Water Pulse!" Gloria calls out.
"Pika Pika!" Pikachu starts running ahead at breakneck speed.
"Sobbl!" Sobble waves around its arms, bringing them together.
"I know Munchlax for years, it's not fast enough to dodge a close-range attack," Victor thinks.
"I know Meowth for years, it's not capable of a long range attack" Gloria thinks.
Vicki and Glory smile at each other, before looking back ahead.
"Meowth, use Fury Swipes on the ground in front of Munchlax!" Glory calls out.
"What? Pikachu, Electro Ball!" Victor calls out.
"Pika Pika Pika!" Pikachu continues running, as a ball of electricity forms on its tail.
"Meowt!" Meowth jumps, as its claws pop out and swipes furiously at the ground, bringing up a cloud of dust.
"Sobble, wash away the dust," Gloria instructs.
"Sobbl!" Sobble pushes its hands ahead, shooting a pulsing blast of water from its hands.
But the pulsing blast of water collides with Pikachu, "Pika! Chu!"
The ball of electricity bursts, as Pikachu falls onto the ground, surging with electricity.
"Munchlax, Body Slam!" Vicki calls out.
The dust clears, as Munchlax jumps up and slams its body down onto Pikachu, "Lax!"
"Pika!"
"Pikachu!" Victor calls out.
"Now, Meowth, Fury Swipes!" Glory instructs.
"Meowt!" Meowth runs up to Sobble and swipes it furious.
"Sobbl!" Sobble is knocked back.
"Sobble!" Gloria calls out.
"As you see, kids, a multi battle is very different from a single battle," Glory says.
"I guess we never really had a multi battle before," Victor says. "The closest was my double battle against Kabu."
"Still, we can overcome this challenge like every other one," Gloria says.
"Right," Victor nods his head.
"They're not giving up," Vicki says.
"Of course not, they're our children," Glory says.
"Which means they deserve our best," Vicki says, with them both nodding their heads.
"Meowt," Meowth stands next to Munchlax.
"Lax."
"Pika," Pikachu stands next to Sobble.
"Sobbl."
"So the real trick will be to avoid each other's attacks and stay out of range of theirs," Gloria says. "Any ideas?"
"...Actually I do," Victor looks over to Gloria, who looks back. "Have Sobble hold onto Pikachu's tail."
"Right," Gloria nods, before looking back ahead. "Sobble, you heard him, grab Pikachu's tail.
"Sobbl," Sobble holds onto Pikachu's tail, with Pikachu looking at it.
"Pika…"
"Okay, Pikachu, whip your tail and throw Sobble!" Victor instructs.
"Pika Pika!" Pikachu spins around, whipping its tail and sends Sobble flying.
"Sobbl!" Sobble screams as it flies past Meowth and Munchlax, both who barely follow it with their eyes, before Sobble slides across the ground. "Sobble."
"Are they using the same technique we used in the finals of our second Galarian Star Tournament?" Glory asks.
"You did say they were our children," Vicki scratches the side of her head.
"Pikachu!" Victor calls out.
"Sobble!" Gloria calls out.
"Thunder Shock!"
"Water Pulse!"
"Pika Pika Pi!" Pikachu shoots out bolts of electricity from its body. "Chu!"
"Sobbl!" Sobble waves around its arms, bringing them together before pushing them ahead, shooting a pulsing blast of water from its hands.
"Meowt!" Meowth jumps to the side, but is hitted by a blast of electricity.
"Lax!" Munchlax tries to move to the side, but is hitted by a pulsing blast of water.
"Alright!" Victor and Gloria yell, as they handfives each other.
Glory smiles, "You two have been friends for a while now, so it's no surprise you are able to work as a team so quickly, and I'm glad. Which also means I can truly give you my full power."
"Oh, this is gonna be good," Vicki says.
Glory pulls something out of her back pocket before placing it on her wrist and removes her hand, revealing a Dynamax Band.
"Mom, you have a Dynamax Band?!" Gloria yells.
"Remember, dear, I was a Pokémon Trainer," Glory holds out a Poké Ball, which shoots out a red beam, turning Meowth into red energy and flies back into the Poké Ball.
Glory holds out her hands, with a large, glowing Poké Ball surrounding it, before she turns and throws it, "Meowth, Gigantamax!"
The large Poké Ball opens and shoots out massive red energy, as it starts to take shape and grows, stretching higher and higher, "Meowt!"
"Did you knew your mom's Meowth could Gigantamax?" Victor asks, looking up, as Pikachu runs over to them and Sobble.
"No, I did not," Gloria continues to watch Meowth.
"Now, my dears, let's see if you can handle this," Glory spreads out her arms. "Meowth, G-Max Gold Rush!"
"Meowt!" Meowth sways side to side. "Meowt!"
The ground under Pikachu and Sobble start to crack, before a huge explosion geyser blows up, knocking Pikachu and Sobble up, with large gold coins flying out.
"Pika!"
"Sobbl!"
"Lax…" Munchlax has a large gold coin in its mouth.
"Munchlax, don't eat that!" Vicki calls out.
"Our Pokémon are confused," Gloria realizes.
Pikachu and Sobble are walking around, wobbly, with bird-like images flying around their heads.
After a few more seconds, Sobble shakes its head, with the bird-like images fade away, "Sobbl." Sobble then looks up to see the Gigantamaxed Meowth. "Sobbl…"
"Sobble, it's okay," Gloria says, with her Pokémon looking over to her. "I know fighting a Gigantamaxed Pokémon can be scary, and it hasn't worked out before. But after everything we've been through, I know we can do it, together. Right, Sobble?"
Sobble continues to stare at Gloria for a couple more seconds, before nodding its head, "Sobbl."
Gloria smiles and nods her head, when she notices her Dynamax Band is glowing.
"Gloria," Victor says.
Gloria looks at her friend and nods her head.
Munchlax splits out the large gold coin, with Vicki, kneeling next to it, breathes a sigh of relief.
Glory watches ahead and smiles, "Look like we will see their full power now too."
Gloria holds out a Poké Ball, with Sobble turns into red energy and flies into it. Gloria holds out her hands, with a large, glowing Poké Ball surrounding it, before she turns and throws it, "Sobble, Dynamax!"
The large Poké Ball opens and shoots out massive red energy, as it starts to take shape and grows, until it forms a giant Sobble, "Sobbl!"
"We did it, we Dynamaxed, Sobble," Gloria says.
"Sobbl," Sobble looks down at its Trainer.
"Pika," Pikachu shakes its head, as the bird-like images fade away.
"Alright, Pikachu, ready to go?!" Victor asks.
"Pika Pi," Pikachu holds up its arms.
"Okay, let's get going then, Meowth, G-Max Gold Rush!" Glory calls out.
"Not this time, Sobble, grab Pikachu and jump up!" Gloria instructs.
"Sobbl," Sobble scoops up Pikachu in one hand, cup its other hand over Pikachu, and then jump up. "Sobbl!"
A large explosion geyser erupts behind Sobble as it jumps ahead, with large gold coins falling around from the explosion.
"Munchlax, use Fling!" Vicki instructs.
"Lax!" Munchlax holds up a large gold coin, spins around and throws it up at the midair Sobble.
"Pikachu, knock it back with Electro Ball!" Victor calls out.
Sobble opens its hands slightly, allowing Pikachu to jump out, with a ball of electricity on its tail, "Pika Pika Chu!"
Pikachu whips its tail, throwing the ball of electricity, which explodes against the large gold coin, knocking it back through the air.
Munchlax turns and tries to run, with the large gold coin falling onto it, "Lax."
"Meowth, quick, Max Starfall!" Glory calls out.
"Meowt!" Meowth reaches out its arms.
Suddenly, falling from the sky are three large stars.
"Sobble, quick, jump high and use Max Guard!" Gloria calls out.
"Sobbl," Sobble's feet lands on the ground, before bouncing itself back up, and crosses its arms, with a glowing barrier appearing before it. "Sobbl!"
The large stars slam against the barrier, creating a large explosion, as energy spreads out.
"Sobble!" Gloria calls out.
Smoke and energy dissipates, as Sobble continues jumping forward, reaching out with one hand.
"Alright, now use Max Geyser!" Gloria calls out.
"Sobbl!" Sobble shoots a large blast of water from its mouth, blasting Meowth at close range.
"Meowth…" Meowth sways backward, as it tries to hold up its arms back, before it is blown back.
"Meowth!" Glory calls out.
Meowth, lying on its back, glows red and shrinks back down to its normal size and appearance, with its eyes whirling. At the same time, Pikachu looks over to Munchlax, who is still lying under the gold coin, with its eyes whirling.
"Meowth and Munchlax are unable to battle," Dan holds up a hand. "Victor and Gloria win!"
"We did it!" Victor and Gloria highfives.
"Pika!" Pikachu says, as it looks over to Sobble, having returned to its normal size and walks over.
"Sobbl," Sobble smiles.
"You did well, Meowth," Glory holds up her Pokémon in her arms.
"Meowt," Meowth looks up at its Trainer.
"Oh, my poor, sweet Munchlax," Vicki is cuddling Munchlax in her arms.
Glory looks ahead, smiling, "You know, Vicki, I think our children will be just fine."
Vicki stops cuddling with Munchlax and looks ahead, smiling.
"Who knew Multi Battles would be so fun," Gloria says, before suddenly, her Rotom Phone flies up. "Ah, it's Hop."
Gloria presses her Rotom Phone's screen, with Hop appearing on it, "Hey, Gloria, Victor. Have you heard about the Galarian Star Tournament?"
"You could say that," Gloria says, grinning.
"Well, I'm gonna enter, what about you guys?" Hop asks.
Victor and Gloria look at each other, before looking back at the Rotom Phone.
"We just might, Hop," Gloria answers.
At the same time, Vicki and Glory, with their Pokémon in their arms, watch and smile, as well as Sonia in the stands, next to Allister.
Sonia smiles, "Somehow, I wasn't surprised."
"Having learned how to work as a team in a Multi Battle, Victor and Gloria are set to enter the Galarian Star Tournament, alongside their friend, Hop. But who will their teammates be? And what kind of Pokémon will they face?"
"Find out, as the journey continues…"
