Once upon a time, in a vast deep forest of Hyrule, there was a guardian spirit known as the Deku Tree. His job was to serve the Kokiri children (Sonic, Link, Saria, Tails and Vanellope Von Sweezt) by creating a portal in his trunk that made it possible for fairies to come and visit and guide these Kokiri children. But, the only Kokiri child who had never had a fairy partner before was Sonic the hedgehog. Sonic was a special hedgehog because he could run faster than the speed of sound. But without a fairy partner, he was being plagued by nightmares...
A drawbridge came down and Sonic jumped out of the way of a galloping horse. The horse carried a little girl and an older woman who fled from the castle followed by a dark man on a black steed. The man prepared to throw a dark energy ball at Sonic.
One day, the Great Deku Tree had been cursed by the dark man. He called Navi to come forward. "What's up, Great Deku Tree? Is it time?" asked Navi. She was a winter fairy who lived in Pixie Hollow which was where the Great Deku Tree's portal takes visitors to whenever they desired. Whenever she came to the mainland or to the warm side of Pixie Hollow, she had to wear a heat-resistant spacesuit or else she would overheat and thus wouldn't be able to fly. Navi's home in Pixie Hollow was the Winter Woods where it was always cold. Now, the Great Deku Tree had a job for Navi. A very special job. "Oh, Navi the fairy," he said. "Listen to the words of the Deku Tree. Thou must find the hedgehog without a fairy and bring him here. The fate of Hyrule, nay, the world is at stake! Fly, Navi, fly! The hedgehog is Hyrule's only hope."
Navi was so excited. She always wanted to be someone's fairy partner and today was the day! Now she just had to find this little hedgehog. Once, she bumped into a fence, but she quickly recovered and found the treehouse that served as the hedgehog's residence. There, she found a little blue hedgehog still fast asleep. "Hello?" she called, shaking the hedgehog. The hedgehog grumbled and stirred and turned on his other side, facing away from her. "Come on!" said Navi. "Can Hyrule's destiny really rely on such a lazy blue hedgehog?"
"Alright, I'm up, I'm up," grumbled the hedgehog. He sat up and rubbed his eyes. "Oh, hi," he said with a yawn. "I'm Sonic the Hedgehog. What's your name?"
"I'm Navi," she replied. "The Great Deku Tree asked me to be your partner from now on. Nice to meet you!"
"Likewise," replied Sonic. "What brings you to my house today?"
"The Great Deku Tree has summoned you," said Navi. "So, let's get going, right now."
"Why didn't you say so?" said Sonic as Navi tugged on his arm. "Lead the way."
And so she did. But first, Sonic needed to get a sword and a shield. He was able to use one of his quills as a sword. And he purchased a little brown shield with a blue hedgehog symbol on it from the Kokiri shop. But first, Sonic needed to practice. A lot.
It took hours of practice but soon, Sonic was confident in all his karate moves taught to him by Link. And then, he was all set to see the great Deku Tree.
