Chapter 1: Mystery continues and new mission

I don't own anything. Resident Evil belongs to Capcom and Tomb Raider belongs to Core Design, Crystal Dynamics, and I think Square Enix. The only thing I own is the changes made to the stories of the Tomb Raider games/comics and Resident Evil games/comics/CG movies, the Government branch S.P.E.L.L., the person that has taken over Kathrine Warren's life, and Rose Warren. This story also will be bloody, violent, and have cursing. It's rated T for Teen.

Kat sat with Luella as Lara and Sam paced. They all had spoken with the authorities. Then after the normal story was given and the investigation began, Luella and Kat got in contact with S.P.E.L.L. telling them what really happened with the entity. So, a secondary group was investigating. Due to Kat having been involved with this one, she couldn't keep investigating it. Now that they had showered, and the girls were resting, the four got together in Lara's room.

Sam shook her head as she hugged herself. "And here I thought we were done with all this." She spoke. "It's not Himiko or the Solari, but it's still something mystical."

"How?" Lara asked looking up from her shoes to Kat. "How could Amanda be alive in the future and be controlling the entity? We saw her crushed."

"I can only guess. It protected her because she had the stone." Kat said as she started thinking.

"So…Amanda's alive down there?" Luella asked looking unsure.

Kat nodded. "She is. But she gets out. I…I don't know when exactly."

They were silent for a long time. In their own way, silently morning for the people they'd met. Then Lara lifted her head.

"What happened to you?" Lara asked looking at Kat. "Down there, when you faced the entity, it was like a switch had gone off. You were different."

Kat froze, her body stiffening. "Did…did I do or say anything?"

"You asked why it called you…Chooser. But you didn't sound American. I can't place it, but you spoke differently. The way you settled into a fighting stance…it looked like a warrior." Lara swallowed a bit. "You looked…happy."

Kat blinked. "H-happy?"

"Or thrilled, excited?" Lara sighed sitting down. "I don't know, but you were smiling. Like the thought of fighting something like the entity was going to be fun." She looked to the climbing axe. "After it roared and started to charge…you yelled a battle cry and ran at it."

Kat looked down as Luella pulled her close. "When…when I spoke…did I have an accent or was it the wording?"

"An accent." Lara nodded. "I couldn't place it…" She leaned forward as Sam took a seat too. "What happened? Is this…Is this some form of PTSD?"

Kat shrugged as Luella rubbed her shoulders. "We…we don't know. It's been happening off and on since…Raccoon from what I can tell…but it might have been before that." She looked up at Sam and Lara. "Leon noticed it first. Except…what you observed is only part of it." She swallowed looking down before she got up, "Be right back." She walked out of the room to hers, and came back with a recorder. "This is the copy I made…another copy is with a professor at the museum in DC." She sat down and hit play.

"I'm in the mountains, hiking up a trail, I'm alone…" After a pause the recording of Kat's voice changed. It took on the accent Lara had heard from her in the caverns. "The field is on fire, carts burning, men screaming in pain as they die or burn. A large man runs past giving a battle yell as he slams into another man. Sword and shield meeting over and over. As the men hammer at each other trying to get their sword past the shield. I left my sword and point to one of the men. The man does not notice me, but just as he gave a mighty blow, he leaves his side open to the sword of his foe. It plunges deep. I walk over and extend my hand to him 'Vegr marg-mennr heim veizla.' I explain…." Then the accent is gone after a pause. And when Kat speaks again in the recoding, it's as if she was shaken from an old memory, she wanted buried. "I think I tripped on the trail, fell? That is all I can remember."

Lara paused. "Could you play back that last bit?"

Kat nodded as she did so.

"It plunges deep. I walk over and extend my hand to him 'Vegr marg-mennr heim veizla.' I explain…"

"Again." Lara nodded. "Just the last bit."

"him 'Vegr marg-mennr heim veizla.' I explain…"

"I've almost got it. One more time." Lara said making Kat's eyes widen.

"'Vegr marg-mennr heim veizla.'"

"'Journey with me and we will feast.'" Lara translated slowly.

Kat's eyes widened more if that was posable. "What?"

"It's old Norse." Lara said frowning at Kat. "We both took the class. I'm surprised you didn't catch it."

Kat lowered the recorder and looked at her feet. "But…" She swallowed. "I haven't been able to think of it…" She closed her eyes focusing. "I've…I've spoken it all before…" It was then like a flood. Every time she slipped into Old Norse came rushing back. "þú est né gildr…You are not worthy…Fara sendiferð…Go to sleep…Okræsi-legr griss…Filthy piglet…Vegr marg-mennr heim veizla…Journey with me and we will feast…Blóð drykkyumaðr…Blood drinker…" She breathed as she slowly looked up. "I've been speaking it for a while…but…I can't figure out why."

Lara frowned. "Have your run into any artifacts of Norse origin?"

Kat shook her head as Luella rubbed her shoulders. "No. None. But this started happening on Yamatai…I told Himiko she wasn't worthy. But I don't know what she wasn't worthy of." She then sat up more. "I need to call Leon."

"What? Why?" Sam asked confused as Luella looked unsure.

"He was right. He guessed it was old Norse…because of an encounter he had on one of his missions. He heard the word 'Einherjar' and I told him it was Norse." Kat said as she pulled her Sat phone.

"Won't it be late?" Sam asked looking to her watch.

"It shouldn't be. DC is an hour ahead of us." Luella said as Kat put the phone to her ear. "Agent Kennedy would be eating dinner or heading to bed." She stated sounding just the smallest bit sharp.

Sam and Lara looked at each other. This wasn't good. Both knew Kat was bi and knew that Kat had a level of attraction to Leon. Even if Kat said they were just friends, Luella might still get jealous of any time spent with Leon. She made a mental note to have a private word with Kat.

Leon's voice came through. "Kat? What are calling for?"

"I need you to say what the Drugur said to you again." Kat said.

"Um…I can try but…" He paused. "Inhoryar. Inhoryar, Koona liker valkyrha. Inhoryar, Havadan valkyrha." He groaned. "I think."

Kat muttered then opened her eyes. "Einherjar. Kunna líkr val-kyrja. Hvaðan val-kyrja." She repeated back, same accent, same pronunciation.

"Kat, you're starting to freak me out, now." He said slowly.

"It said, 'Army of one. Feels like Chooser. Where Chooser.' You were right Leon, its Old Norse." Kat told him quickly. Then her face fell from the smile of victory. "And that's the third time I've heard 'Chooser'." She said as the others in the room got worried.

"Third time?" Leon asked sounding as worried as those present.

"First time was on that mission in Germany. Second time it technology came from you with your mission. Third time was today. From an entity." Kat explained as she looked around the room too. "And two of those times the things were talking to me. And you've spent time with me."

"Maybe…they sense something about you?" Luella guessed as she leaned into Kat, taking in her scent. It had always been interesting.

"How did you figure this out? Did you remember?" Leon asked.

"That and Lara recognized and translated the recording." Kat told him. "After that it was like a domino effect. I remembered every time I've ever spoken Old Norse. Not why I do, just when I did."

"Good to know." Leon said. "Wait a second…Entity? What kind of entity? Are you okay? What about the girls? The others?"

Kat grimaced. "Sherry and Rose are fine; they were with Sam and Luella above ground." She bit her lips together. "Lara and I were underground…and were the only ones that made it back up. The entity killed everyone else. If it didn't then the flood that happened did."

"Shit, Kat…you're not even working…" Leon sighed. "So, what does that all mean?"

"The local authorities and S.P.E.L.L. are investigating. It means we're all going home." Kat said as she took Luella's hand.

"Good. Sounds like everyone needs a rest." He paused. "I gotta go."

"Bye." Kat said.

"Bye." Leon said and hung up.

Kat knew something was off. Something with Sherry and Rose. Not something to be worried about health wise. No. This more like 'what are they planning' kind of worry. It started back at the hotel that morning. Both were up early, which was unusual. But Kat had wrote it off as the two waking up from bad dreams or the time difference. So she hugged them and went on with the day.

The next time was when they were packing up for the airport. Sherry was pretty bundled up, but so was Rose. She again wrote it off as the two getting ready for the chilly fall nearing winter weather of DC. It was when they were on board and nearing the border when Rose came over with a weird question that got Kat suspicious of her daughters.

"If we cross the border…is that the point of no return?"

That question was weird. What was weirder was how quiet the two were the whole flight. Then she'd see them sneaking fruit and nuts away from the snack cabinet. She sighed. They were now at the point of no returning, and she was starting to think the girls did something.

She got up and walked over to the two bundled up girls. "Okay, you both have been awfully quiet, what did you do or what are you planning to do?"

Rose and Sherry looked at each other worriedly and guilty. They both looked like they were caught.

"Um…" Rose began.

"It was my idea…so don't be mad." Sherry said as she unzipped her coat.

It was now clear that Sherry hadn't had her arms in her sleeves. Her arms were holding a blanket bundle. Kat watched as Sherry unwrapped the bundle a little. There in the bundle was a little bird.

"Oh, gods, you took a bird? Where did you find it?" Kat sighed as she pinched her nose.

"At the hotel. We found him on the ground." Rose smiled nervously. "I think he fell out of the nest."

Kat sighed. "Well, we'll have to take him to the vet to find out what kind of bird he is, do the necessary research." She looked at the two smiling faces. "You're both grounded for a week though. No movies or games. Just caring for him…her…and doing your homework."

"I'm just glad the memory lost was short term and I know everything again." Ark's voice said making Lean sag with relief.

"I'm glad to hear you're okay, man." Leon told him. "Heck I'm glad to hear you got kids out of there before the place blew up."

"You and me both." Ark agreed. "Gotta go now. Your fellow agents are waving at me."

"Yeah." Leon nodded. "Talk to you later."

"Bye."

With that Leon hung up and sighed. His friend was okay. He had his memories and got the kids Kat talked about out. Sheena's facility was done and gone. No one else would be killed or experimented on, on that island. But it was yet another mission that left Leon hollow. Yes, his friend and two kids survived, but another small city was destroyed.

Leon shook his head as Kat pushed her drink away. "You guys actually kept the bird?"

"I couldn't say no. They already named him, and he's grown attached to them. It'd be cruel to take him away now." Kat told him snorting. "So…Heard anything from Claire?"

"Last thing I heard from her was on the fifteenth. And that was to, one, make sure our date was still on, two, to let me know about the pages and drone you sent to her, and three, to let me know she was okay. Cute that you sent Sherry's two protypes to her." He sighed sitting back. "Will the pages help her at all?"

"I hope so. Sherry and I last saw her and Elza captured. Then Chris called me. But she won't get hurt as bad..." Kat said as both their phones rang.

Sharing a look, the pulled them and answered them.

"Kat, speaking." She said as she put her phone to her ear.

"Kennedy." Leon said as he looked at the partly drunk glass.

After a few moments the two looked at each other with wide eyes.

"On my way." They said in unison.

Country: America, State: Virginia, City: Arlington, Place: STRATCOM HQ, Area: Briefing Room, Month: December, Day: Monday 21st, Year: 1998, Time: 14:33 EST…

"Welcome, agents." Benford said as he passed them their files. "With the information over the last few weeks, we've found Starlight."

Kat and Leon opened their files and looked over the information. They did have a location, the effects of the virus, the B.O.W. on board, even a map of the ship's layout. Kat was relived the ship was found. She and Leon could now go in, find Lucia, get extracted, then have the ship annihilated. She didn't care about the artificial Draugr, the B.O.W. or any evidence on board. As dark as it sounded, she only cared for the girl on board.

"You'll both be sent in. Make check-ins every three hours. Your main goal is to find the Tyrant type B.O.W. and destroy it. Your second is to find and save any uninfected individuals." Nolan informed. "Now, we have made a possible vaccine for the virus on board. With the three bodies' we've had access to…well…" He gestured to the files.

This bit of info was unknown to Leon and Kat. Looking to their files they saw what had happened. The undead, the draugr, had slowed decomposition to a crawl. If left unattended, they more than likely would still be moving without too much trouble. But once they died, it was like time caught up with them. They decayed at an accelerated rate, turning to sludge then drying to dust by the end of the day. Any blood samples taken had to be refrigerated quickly or it did the same thing as the bodies. The vaccine (the kind made to gain immunity to viruses) was a complete and total risk if would work or not.

Upon learning that, Leon and Kat share concerned looks. In Kat's notes, she had noted that Leon became infected with that variation of the virus. Sure, they knew he would be cured after, but this variation was different from the notes. What if Daylight couldn't cure them if they got infected? What would happen then?

"Both of you will be given the injections and will arrive there via helo. You will each have a panic button should anything happen, one of you is badly hurt, infected, or if one of you is unconscious." Benford explained as he held up what said button looked like.

It looked like a belt clip with a green button. When Benford pressed it, the light would flash red every two seconds. He pushed it twice and it turned off. It gave no audible sound to human ears.

"Gear wise, we can't send you in with anything too big. But because of your experience, we're sure you can find a way to get something with a higher power grade." Nolan informed as he looked to the two. "There is one more thing. Some images taken when we found the ship. There was a woman spotted on board."

Kat and Leon turned through the pages. There were six pictures from a drone. The images were blurry and grainy with a touch of pixilation. The first of the images was of a woman running out of the door. Then next showed her shooting with a flash from the muzzle of her gun. The next one after that showed her ducking a draugr. After it was down, she was sticking it with something. Then she held a box with a radio to her face. The last one showed her holding on to a helicopter ladder. But both Leon and Kat recognized the woman. Even with the images not being the best, they could tell and feel it in their guts. The short dark hair, a splash of red, even the stilled movements in the images.

"I think we know her…" Kat said as she closed her file and looked down. "She was with us for a short time in Raccoon."

"Who?" Nolen asked as he leaned in.

"Ada Wong…" Leon said looking up from his file. "Last time we saw her, it was dark, and she gave us a rocket launcher."

"Oh…" Benford said slowly as he looked down. "We've heard of her. She's…quite good at what she does."

"We know her by many names. But it appears Ada Wong and Linda are some of her more frequently chosen names." Nolen explained.

Kat nodded, sighing through her nose. "But she's no longer on the ship, yes?"

Both men nodded.

"As far we can ascertain, no. She has left the ship." Nolan said then looked to Benford.

"The helo is currently fueling up. You've got four hours before you've got to board it. If you have anything to do before then, now's the time to do it." Benford informed.
