I've gone through several rough drafts for BNHA stories over the years. A few of them were adopted by good friends and others slipped through the cracks. However, I dare say that this might be what I'm settling with.
It was truly painful getting to this moment but I'm positive that this will be the BNHA story that puts me in the record books! I just hope my passion stays strong till the end...
Izumi Midoriya was not like other girls. She was different in many ways. She would always stand outside in the rain, letting the raindrops run down her skin. She would walk barefoot across the grass and earth, enjoying the soil between her toes. She would play around on noticeably windy days, the air blowing through her verdant hair that looked like fresh broccoli. Finally, when her mother Inko set a fire on the chimney, she'd always be entranced by the flames flickering over the wood.
In a world where 80% of humanity developed superhuman abilities known as Quirks and used them to become superheroes and supervillains, Izumi was one of the stranger cases. She was always fascinated by the elements around here; Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Lightning, etc. She was also a huge otaku when it came to anything Hero-related. She had merchandise of all the Top 10 Pro Heroes and signed autographs of every Hero she had ever encountered.
What also set Izumi apart from other girls her age was her boundless compassion. When she saw someone hurt or in danger, she would do everything in her power to make sure that they were safe. Many people took to calling her 'Mother Nature's Child' due to her gentle demeanor and connection to the elements. Even when her father, Hisashi Midoriya, passed away from illness, Izumi still kept her head held high, knowing her father was watching after her from beyond.
There was a reason Izumi had these unique traits. And it all came to heed when she got her Quirk diagnosed. Apparently, she could harness and manipulate the elements at will. She could create them from nothing and control existing sources as well. For a girl who wanted nothing less than to be a Hero who helped those in need, this was a godsend.
Of course, a powerful Quirk such as hers was bound to draw attention, especially from some of the top heroes in the country. She had received visits from almost all of the Top 10 Pro Heroes, one of them even being her paternal uncle, and in the process, not only learned helpful new ideas but also got their autographs for her collection.
Her power also caught the envy of her best friend, Katsumi Bakugou, who was quite prideful of her own Quirk which allowed her to create explosions at will from her hands. The two children would constantly spar to see who was stronger and soon, it ultimately became that it was basically training for the two of them when they made it to UA High together.
When she was 8 years old, Izumi made a new friend in the form of Ochako Uraraka, a girl from a poor family who owned a construction company but never got much work in their area.
Ochako's Quirk was [Gravity], which allowed her to, obviously, manipulate gravitational forces. She, Izumi, and Katsumi would often play together while their parents interacted with each other. But one day, tragedy would strike.
During a battle between a Hero and a Villain, Ochako's house was damaged, trapping herself and her parents inside. Ochako had desperately tried saving her parents, but they begged for her to save herself instead. Ultimately, a steel beam crushed her parents, killing them.
The Pro Hero on the scene, Eel Boy, rescued Ochako but was shocked when she began emitting nuclear energy from the stress of seeing her parents die. Thankfully, Izumi and Inko had been close by and managed to help contain Ochako before she suffered a meltdown.
After the doctors ran diagnostics on Ochako to make sure she was alright as well as uncover this new power she awakened, they revealed her Quirk Factor had just finished awakening its true power. In truth, Ochako didn't just have the power to manipulate gravity, but also control the other three Fundamental Forces as well; Electromagnetism, Strong Force, and Weak Force.
With no home to return to, the Midoriyas offered to let Ochako live with them from now on. Ochako was immensely grateful for the family's kindness and in the process, developed feelings for Izumi since she had always stuck by her side, even in these hard times.
When she was 10 years old, Izumi made another two more new friends; Melissa Shield and Momo Yaoyorozu.
Melissa was the daughter of esteemed scientist David Shield, who was also a former sidekick of Izumi's idol and Japan's #1 Pro Hero; All-Might. As for Momo, she was the only child of the wealthy Yaoyorozu Clan. Her mother had actually been close friends with Inko back in their high school days and invited the Midoriyas over to a party to catch up on old times.
Inko had insisted on bringing her daughter as well as the Bakugous and Ochako. While the adults did their usual chatting and mingling, the kids went horsing around together and just having fun in their own way.
Izumi, being the Quirk Nerd she was, asked Momo and Melissa about their Quirks. Momo's Quirk was [Creation] and it allowed her to create just about any non-living material from her body through her body fat. As for Melissa, her Quirk was [Cosmo], which allowed her to harness golden cosmic-like energy for a variety of effects, like flying, firing energy blasts, and transmuting matter. Melissa had explained she got her power from her mother before she died when she was just a child.
Even after the party had concluded, Izumi kept in touch with Momo and Melissa, even when the latter moved back to the moving city of I-Island with her father. They all traded ideas on new ways to use their Quirks as well as excitedly talk about their desires to be Pro Heroes when they grew up. A dream that was also shared by Katsumi and Ochako, who had their own personal reasons for wishing to become heroes themselves.
And now, it's time for the story to begin, with Izumi and her friends recently graduating from their middle school of Aldera Junior High and making their way to the Hero School of their dreams; UA High. In that time, they will discover shocking new revelations as well as form new bonds as they begin their journey to becoming the greatest Pro Heroes the world has ever seen!
Edit: 11/27/21: I've made massive changes to this chapter in order to avoid driving myself insane with character bloat and other issues that would arise from my over-ambitious mind.
Next Chapter: Izumi and Co. take on the UA Entrance Exam!
