F3: Hello and welcome to a new story. This story will feature Iona Basil as the focus of this story. RWBY is property of Rooster Teeth and Monty Oum. OC character are owned by me unless stated otherwise. With that said... Let's Roll Out!
Volume 4-1 Purple: Broken Heart.
Iona didn't know how long it was but the last thing that she remembered was watching her friend, sister figure, and the person that she'd admired die in her arms as those four words still burned in her head.
"Keep... the fire... burning..." The voice Pyrrha echoed throughout her head but everytime she thought of her a new set of tears would fill her eyes as they streamed down her face. After that everything was a blur as the only thing she remembered was being held closely by Blake as they were airlifted out of the destroyed city. After that her entire world went dark.
It wasn't until she heard someone nudged her shoulder softly just enough to make her stir as her bright pink eyes opened slowly as her eyes adjusted to the light that illuminated her room. She slowly sat up as she looked around her surroundings and noticed that she was in her room. It was single bedroom with a bed, a desk and a stand that contained some of her achievements including a trophy of winning the Sanctum tournament a year ago.
"Good morning sweetheart." A motherly voice said to her as she turned to see someone very familiar to her.
An older faunus women around her early thirties with amber eyes and a dark skin complexion with wild chin length hair with an asymmetrical bob style. On her head are a pair of bengal tiger ears along with numerous tattoos that resemble tiger stripes all along her body. On her tiger ears she wears two studded earrings with three on the right and one on the left.
She is currently wearing a white shirt that reaches just above her stomach along with black form fitting jeans with a belt around it along with simple dress shoes. On her neck she wears a necklace with a red jewel.
This is Sienna Khan. Her adoptive mother.
"Morning mom." Iona muttered just enough for her to hear.
"Are you feeling okay? Anything you want to eat?" Sienna asked kindly.
"I... I'm fine. How long was I out?" Iona asked.
"You've been out for two days hun. One of your friends came and brought you home. I was worried if something happened when she brought you home." Sienna answered.
This kinda confused Iona of wondering who brought her home "Who brought me here?" She asked.
"I believe she's downstairs. I'll get something ready for you when you come down." Her mother replied before giving her a quick peak on the forehead as she left Iona's room.
Iona got up and out of her bed as she stared out of her window as she noticed it was rather cloudy out today which meant it was going to rain sometime today. She also noticed she was in her pajamas as she sighed before heading to her closest. She opened her closet and at first she was reaching her combat gear but paused a moment before deciding to wear something simple. She decided to wear a light purple short sleeved shirt along with form fitting jeans. She noticed her shoes were missing as she guessed they were downstairs so she only wore her socks on the way down.
Plus she was wondering who brought her home after what happened at Beacon. She came down stairs and noticed her mother was cooking breakfast and she noticed her younger ten year old brother sitting their at the table.
Her brother is a faunus just like her mother but instead of ears he has a bengal tail. He has a short black hair like his mom but his eyes were a deep purple color with a dark skin complexion. He wore a blue shirt and black shorts. He looked like he was drawing something on a sheet of paper when he looked up and noticed Iona standing their his tail immediately went crazy.
"Sis!" He shouted as he got up from his seat and nearly tackled Iona as he hugged her but only reaching to her waist.
Iona smiled at this action as she patted her brother on the head "Hey little bro. Sorry if I worried you." Iona apologized.
"Well that one cat lady brought you home and you didn't wake up. It really scared mom and me." Her brother replied.
"Cat lady?" Iona asked.
"She's in the living room reading a book." Her brother said.
"Lyon how about you tell the cat lady that breakfast is almost ready." Sienna replied.
"Okay mom." Lyon replied as both he and Iona went into the living room. The living was a simple space since it was only the three of them. It has a two person couch along witih a chair on the side with a light behind the chair incase someone wants to read. There is a fireplace that is used for cold weather and winter months. A medium sized TV sits just to the left of the fireplace along that looks like a game console sitting below it.
Iona noticed someone very familiar as she noticed a pair of black cat ears on the persons head who is also reading a book.
"Blake?" Iona said as she got the cat faunus's attention. Blake looked to her left and noticed Iona and her brother standing their as she bookmarked her place in the book. She placed the book down in the seat before getting up.
"Well you're finally up. Had everyone here rather worried you know." Blake said.
"Did I? What exactly happened? My memory is a little fuzzy." Iona questioned.
That kinda surprised Blake "You mean... you don't remember what happened." Blake said.
"Like I said my memory's a little fuzzy right now." Iona added.
Blake bit the bottom of her lip not sure exactly how to word things but Iona's brother interjected.
"Mom said that breakfast is almost ready." Lyon replied as he ran back into the dining room.
"Why don't get some breakfast first? You must be starving after not eating anything for two whole days." Blake replied as she walked past Iona heading toward the dining room. Iona didn't know what going on but she was rather hungry so she decided to ask later as she too walked back toward the dining room.
Her mother had four plates sitting on the table each with eggs, bacon, baked hashbrowns, a glass of oranje juice. On one plate had a small bit of tuna next to the eggs which Iona guessed was Blakes plate as she sat down.
Everyone else sat down around the table as they began eating. Sienna decided to break the ice as she spoke up.
"So Blake... how is Menagerie after we left?" Sienna asked.
"Well... not much has changed really. It's still rather cramped but everyone is still getting by." Blake replied.
"And how about your family? How are they?" Sienna questioned.
"Mom and Dad are fine. So is Killa." Blake replied which kinda surprised Sienna hearing about Killa.
"She's alive." Sienna replied.
"Yeah.. it's rather complicated though given her current situation." Blake added.
"What is that?" Lyon asked rather curiously.
The two of them tried to come up with something to tell him but Iona stepped in.
"Lyon. If it's complicated then she doesn't want to talk about it." Iona replied.
"Oh... okay." Lyon said as he went to eating his food.
Iona continued eating her food but something was bugging her but she had to know what. She stared at her mother as she looked her over and noticed that her left hand was twitching slightly as if something was wrong.
"Mom is everything okay?" Iona asked.
Sienna stopped eating for a moment as she placed her utensil down on the table.
"Blake... could you go and keep Lyon busy for a moment please." She asked as Blake nodded in complaince already having a feeling what they were going to talk about.
Sienna folded her hands together as spoke up "Iona... do you recall what happened at Beacon?" She asked.
Iona thought a moment as she racked her brain trying to recall the events of Beacon. She remembered fighting Yatsuhachi and Fox alongside Blake. She remembered seeing a bright silver glow that appeared above the academy. She also remembered... Pyrrha.
"Is this something to do about... Pyrrha?" Iona asked.
Sienna didn't move for a moment as she let out a small sigh "There's... going to be a service... to honor Pyrrha. It's going to be held later today and...I was wondering if you want to attend." Sienna replied.
Iona knew what that meant and she wasn't going to like it "So... Pyrrha really is dead right?" Iona asked but she already knew that answer as her mother didn't say anything else but remain silent. Iona started to slightly shake a little as tears were starting to form in her eyes.
Sienna noticed this as she got up from her seat and hugged her daughter close as she whispered calming thoughts to her already knowing what her daughter has been through throughout the years.
"I'm... going to go for a walk." Iona replied as she got out of her mothers embrace and walked out of the dining toward the door where her shoes were at. She also got into the closet near the door and dragged out a black jacket and put it on along with her shoes before heading out of the house.
Blake came back into the dining room with Lyon. He had a worried look on his face.
"Is big sis going to be okay?" Lyon asked worryingly
"I'm not sure." Blake replied as she too was worried about her cousin wondering if she'll be okay.
=RWBY=
Iona left the house as she was just now walking on the side walk of the capital not exactly having a destination in mind but she just kept on walking. Right now she was filled with emotions right now that she couldn't even think straight. Her body wasn't physically hurt but her heart was torn very much as she was the one that had witnessed Pyrrha die in her arms with her blood on her hands.
That image was still clear as day in her mind as she was holding Pyrrha's body in her hands and those last four words that she spoke to her still fresh in her mind. Though her walking apparently lead her to the front of Sanctum Academy. The academy where both her and Pyrrha both trained at and graduated at.
The place looked like it hadn't changed a bit from what it looks like as she decided to walk into the grounds of the academy. Once their a wave of memories came back to her almost as if it was only yesterday that she and Pyrrha were here.
[Flashback]
Iona was sent flying as she hit the ground her weapons clattered to the ground as she lost her grip on them. Just as was about to get up from the ground a sword pointed directly in front of her as she looked up at her opponent. It was Pyrrha standing in front of her with her weapon pointed at her.
"Alright I yield." Iona replied as she surrendered. Pyrrha sheathed her sword as she held out a hand to help Iona up.
"You're getting better with predicting my strikes but your still losing your footing. You are improving." Pyrrha replied.
"Yeah but I feel like I'm still not exactly their yet. Everyone still thinks I got lucky getting a hit on you." Iona replied.
"It wasn't luck. I was getting too cocky for my own good and underestimated you that was all. You maybe a huntress in training but I know that you can be even more than just that. You could even be better than me one day." Pyrrha replied.
Iona only slightly blushed at the comment as she rubbed the back of her head "I don't know about that I mean you're way better than me." Iona added.
Pyrrha then placed a hand on the young girls shoulder for assurance "But you can way stronger than me that much I know for sure." She said which made the young girl smile.
"Now how about we get back to training." Pyrrha said as Iona nodded as they returned to their training.
[End Flashback]
Iona was in the training yard where their friendship grew and where the two of them bonded like they were sisters. She simply admired the training field as if it could talk to her and tell her all the experiences that she and many others that had used this very field. From the tossed around dirt to the flattened grass and even the usage of the training gear that was nearby. She remembered every detail that their was but the more she remembered the more that tears started to grow in her eyes.
She walked toward the training gear as she eyed two particular sets of gear. They were a pair of training swords that looked like they've been used a lot as Iona should know cause she was the only one that uses them. She took off her jacket and set it on the training rack as she grabbed hold of the weapons in her hands as she felt the carved wood in her hands as she gripped them tightly like she remembered.
She walked toward the center of the training field as she readied herself closing her eyes.
"Okay Iona remember what I showed you. Relax your shoulders." Pyrrha's voice echoed in her mind as she relaxed her shoulders.
"Right leg back for stability." Her voice said again as Iona placed her right leg back.
"Now... strike!" Her voice shouted as Iona thrusted her right arm forward as striking an invisible foe.
"Again." Her voice said as Iona then slashed with her left sword with an uppercut.
"One more time." Pyrrha voice as Iona did an overhead slash with her right sword.
"Much better. But practice does make perfect so be sure to keep at it." Pyrrha voice said again Iona simply stood their with tears now streaming down her face as they fell to the ground. She lost grip of her training weapons as they fell to the ground as she then fell to her hands knees tears falling freely from her face.
"I'm sorry Pyrrha. I should've b-been their. I should've done something. I-I s-should've... I s-should've..." Iona cried as she couldn't contain the amount of hurt that she is feeling. She was so caught up with her feelings she didn't even heard the footsteps that were coming toward her until they were right in front of her as a shadow loomed over her. She looked up and saw that it was Neptune standing their with a concerned looked on his face.
He knelt down and offered her a hand "Need a hand up?" He asked.
Tears still in her eyes as her lips quiver as she practically lunged at him in an embrace as she cried into his shoulder. Taken a little by surprise Neptune returned the gesture as he held her close as the two of them stayed like until Iona got everything out of her system.
=RWBY=
Ten minutes pass as the two were now sitting outside a coffee house as the waiter brought each of them a cup of coffee.
"Enjoy your coffee." The waiter said as he left the two of them be. The two of them didn't say anything at first as they remained silent for some time until Neptune broke the silence.
"So... I know this is probably a dumb question but... how are you holding up?" He asked but probably already knowing the answer to it.
"Honestly... I'm still rather shaken about all this. My mind is still trying to process what is going on and how to go about it." Iona replied as she took a big sip of her coffee before sitting it back down.
"Yeah I'd be shaken by this too if my best friend was killed." Neptune said but Iona glared at him.
"She wasn't just my best friend... she was... like a sister to me. Someone that understood me like no one else did. Sure at first things were a little rocky but we both eventually warmed up to each other and... we became best friends ever since." Iona replied.
He chuckled a little "She sounded like a great girl. Why is it always that the good ones die first?" He said.
"Yeah... it's always the good ones." Iona said as she stared down at the liquid in her cup as her reflextion stared back.
"Well... the only thing we can do is probably go and pay our respects to her. Your going to her funeral right?" Neptune replied.
Iona only nodded "Yes of course I'm going." Iona said "It's... the least I can do for her." She added.
"Well how about we finish up and we get ourselves ready." He said.
"Yeah." She said as the two of them paid for their coffees and went to leave but Iona stopped him for a minute.
"Oh and Neptune." Iona started.
"Yeah. What's up?" He asked. Iona then turned around and hugged him close.
"Thanks for trying to cheer me up." Iona said. She then let him go as the two of them went their separate ways as Iona headed back home with more than likely everyone worried about her.
=RWBY=
After about a ten minute walk she had returned to her home as she opened the door to the entry way. She walked in and noticed her mother along with Lyon and Blake were in the living room as if they were waiting for her.
Sienna was the first to get up from her chair and walked up to her.
"You feel any better hun?" Sienna asked.
"A little bit... but I'm not fully their yet." Iona replied.
"When is the service?" Iona asked.
"Its around three o'clock today but Athena wants us to be their around two o'clock. After that they're going to transport her to the cemetary to be buried." Sienna replied.
"Guess I should start getting myself ready." Iona said as she walked off toward the upstairs to the upstairs bathroom to get herself a shower because she most likely needed it. She stepped into the bathroom and prepared the shower to the right temperature. Once it was at the right temperature for her to handle she stripped off her clothing and stepped into the shower to wash herself. She slightly flinched at the temperature but eventually her body adjusted to it as it sprayed down her naked form.
She began washing herself as she scrubbed herself with the body wash she used but as she started to scrub her hands she noticed blood on her hand which she wondered how she got that as she scrubbed her hand but for some reason it wasn't coming off her hand. She started to breath a little faster as she scrubbed at the spot harder but it was still their even after she scrubbed it again.
She didn't know what was going on but she then felt something on the hand that was holding the body scrub and noticed that the scrub was turning a dark red color the same color as blood. Scared she dropped it as it hit the wet floor of the shower as it started to drain the blood from it. She then saw in her left hand that it was all bloodied just like her right hand. She tried running her hand underneath the water and then rubbed her hands together to try and get the blood out but it was still their.
"Please... stop it. STOP IT!" She shouted completely terrified as she closed her eyes shut. She slowly opened her eyes and saw that the blood on her hands were completely gone but was replaced with the smell of her body wash. She didn't know what was going but she thinks her mind was playing tricks on her as she slowed her breathing.
A sudden knock at the door made her flinch "Iona you okay in their?" Blakes voice said behind the door.
"Y-Yeah. Just finishing up." Iona replied.
"Okay. Your mom wants us to head out a little to get some lunch before heading over to the service." Blake said.
"Alright I'll be out in a few." Iona said as she heard Blakes footsteps walk off. She let out a sigh of relief as she looked at her hand again to make sure their wasn't any blood on it as she continued to clean herself off.
After getting showered and changed back into her attire before heading back downstairs to meet up with her mother and the others. She noticed that her mother had changed out of her normal attire into a black sleeveless dress that reached below her knees. Sienna is also now wear a gold necklace around her neck along with dress heels.
Lyon and Blake were simply waiting for them to be finished so they could leave. Sienna grabbed a purse nearby before turning to the three of them.
"Ready to go?" Sienna asked as the three of them nodded. With that the four of them left the house.
=RWBY=
Everything was in walking distance from each other as they walked down the street toward a nearby restaurant for them to eat before they go the service. They spent about thirty minutes their at the restaurant before they took a trolly car to a single story building people were already arriving and some of them were friends and cousins of the family.
The four of them headed inside with Lyon sticking close to his mother as they entered the building. Inside the building it has a large fireplace with a decorated mantle that has two lit candles on each end. Their is aslo a large leather couch with a three chairs with one of them near the chair and two of them place across from each other by the fireplace. Also on the mantle were two spheres each one a different color. One was a bright pearl color and the other a dark purprle color which apparently were suppose to mean something. There was a double set of doors that lead to a large room from what she could tell their were several rows of seats in it.
Many people were their but one of them stuck out the most. She had short dark red hair that frame her face with dark green eyes. She is currently wearing a brown and black tench dress with a light tan fur collar. She wore black heels and on her face are some black trimmed glasses. People greeted her and were trying to make her comfortable to make sure she was going to be okay.
The women looked and spotted Sienna and the others as she had a bright yet somber smile on her face as she walked over to greet them.
"Hello Miss. Khan. I'm glad you could make it today." The women said.
"You were their for me when Lucius past. I'm just returning the gesture Athena." Sienna replied.
The women now known as Athena looked at the four of them but she didn't recognize one of them as she looked toward Blake but she put a finger to her chin.
"You look like someone I knew sometime ago. You wouldn't happen to be a Belladonna would you?" Athena asked which surprised Blake for a moment.
"Yes. Blake Belladonna." Blake introduced herself.
"I knew you looked someone. Then your mother wouldn't happen to be Kali Belladonna." Athena replied.
"You know my mother?" Blake asked.
"We were classmates at Haven Academy quite some time ago. She was rather fiesty but a charming girl back then." Athena replied.
"That's... good to know." Blake said something she would have to ask her mom if they go to Menagerie.
Sienna looked into the large room where people were starting to gather for the service.
"Is she..." Sienna started but Athena only nodded answering her question before she could finish.
"We're about to start. We should go in." Athena said her voice sounding low as if trying to keep herself from breaking.
"Would you like to sit with us?" Sienna asked as Athena nodded in response as the five of them headed into the other room. Many people were already in the room as soft music played around them as everyone was sitting in their seats. Iona noticed a large brown coffin front in center of the room along with the body of Pyrrha Nikos.
Next to the coffin were her shield and sword in good condition along with her circlet that had been removed from her forehead. They had Pyrrha dressed in her red dress that she wore to the Beacon dance. Her eyes were closed as a sign of respect along with her arms folded slightly and her hands were intertwined with the other. In the coffin next to her were a bouqet of roses more than likely placed their by Athena.
The five of them sat with Lyon sitting in Sienna's lap with Iona on her right and Athena on her left with Blake just next to Iona.
A pastor came up as he then spoke "Welcome everyone to this day. A day that we remember the life of Pyrrha Nikos. A life taken from this world far too soon in this day of tragedy. Though we must remember Pyrrha did not die from sickness. She died a huntresses death that she knew the risks that she was putting herself in and even against the inevitable she still chose to fight reguardless of the outcome. Today we lay her to rest knowing that she fought valiantly in the face of oppression and that she will no longer have to fight any more because her days of fighting have been completed." The pastor began as he paused a moment.
"No more shows of strength. No more acts of courage. No more battles to be fought. Today Pyrrha Nikos can at last lay down her arms and rest in the arms of the brother of light. But inspite of her short life she has made an impact on all of us here in Mistral and no doubt on others when she decided to attend Beacon. Each of now has a small piece of her to remember her by and as long as we remember her in our hearts and within our very souls the fires will allows burn even brighter." The pastor replied as he then turned his head to face the body of Pyrrha Niko.
"We thank you from the bottom of our hearts Pyrrha Nikos. May your inspire us to move forward in the difficult time of mourn and may your soul forever rest knowing that your job upon this planet is truly finished." He said before turning back to the group.
"Now I ask you all silently pray." The pastor replied as he bowed his head. Many others did as well as Athena tried to hold back her tears as Sienna wrapped her in an embrace as they both silently prayed. Even Lyon wanted to help Athena as he tried to give the women a hug as well.
Blake silenly pray as she had her eyes closed remembering all the good times she spent with Pyrrha at Beacon as even a tear slid through the cat faunus eyes. Iona's heart ached as she silently pray remembering everything the two did together when they were in and out of Sanctum Academy. All the fun times and some of the bad times the two of them were always their to face the challenges head on without anything stopping them... but now... she wasn't so sure what to do next.
A full minute of silence came and went as the pastor spoke up again.
"This concludes our service but we wish for you all to stay as we shall now transfer her body to where she'll be put to rest." The pastor said as everyone slowly started to exit. Some of the stayed to give their condolenses to Athena as they passed by. After they left Athena approached the coffin with Sienna nearby. She looked at the body of her daughter as she carefully caressed her daughters cheek.
"You did very well my daughter. Your father would be very proud of you. When you see him up their tell him about all things that you've done." She said lovingly before looking toward the weapons near the coffin as she decided it was time to take them home where they belonged as she picked them up with great care as both she and the remaining few had left.
Some people stayed behind as they served as bearers as one of them carefully closed the other half of the lid while the eight others carefully lifted the coffin and proceed to walk outside the hall.
It was about ten minutes later as they walked across the street to a cemetary with various gravemarker and tombstones their that had different peoples name on them.
Iona walked by one of them that read Lucius Khan. Loving father and husband. Another one she past read Kamarcus Nikos. Friend, father, husband who died with honor. The eight people placed the coffin on a platform as people gathered around the coffin. Suddenly thunder could be heard as it began raining as it pelted the tent.
The pastor began to speak again but Iona practically toned out his voice as she only stared at the coffin that contained her best friend. Ten minutes past as his speach ended as now the people were starting to leave little by little. Athena stayed for as long as she could but she too eventually left after not before saying her goodbyes to everyone else.
"I'm going to take Lyon home. You two going to be okay?" Sienna questioned. Blake nodded as Sienna headed back home with Lyon as Blake and Iona stayed behind. Iona stared at the coffin as she hardly moved but Blake noticed that her fists were clenched as they were shaking ever slightly. She knew that feeling as she knew that Iona was more than angry but furious with what had happened.
Blake noticed her cousins glare but she saw something that throwed her off as she saw her eyes. Iona's left eye was suddenly surrounded by an orange flame as she was completely obilivious to it.
Iona placed a hand on the coffin before she spoke "I'll find whoever did this to you. And I'll make them pay for what they did. I promise you this as a vow." Iona replied as she turned around before walking away straight into the rain not even caring about getting wet.
Blake had a worried look on her face as she'd seen that face before as she herself had that face. It was the face of a person who was out for blood and would do anything to get what they wanted. Blake only hoped that she was wrong.
F3: And that ends this chapter. Pyrrha has been put to rest but now what other problems will arise from this? If you like what you've read let me know in the comments. Also make sure to follow for future updates. With that said this is Fireuser3 and I'm out.
