Kingdom Hearts 5: Event Horizon

Part 1- Virtues and Perils

Chapter 1: Across Space and Time

"Whoa…." The boy grinned as he looked around. What a cool dream!

Wait.

Was he dreaming?

He'd never been the kind of person to lucid dream or anything, but he seemed pretty in control of this dream.

And it had to be a dream because he just found himself in this weird place he'd never been in before.

His feet stood planted on a large rock in the middle of an ocean.

The sky above clouded by black mist.

The deep dark water began to swirl, and light began to culminate before him, but he did not feel afraid.

It was only a dream after all.

From the water rose two giant heads. One a deep blue, the other a midnight black. The blue head twitched, icy eyes fixed on the boy as a tongue flicked in and out of the scaly mouth. This blue snake's body wrapped around the body of the black head… a giant black turtle.

The turtle, whose eyes seemed softer than that of the snake, leaned its head down toward the boy.

A voice, not one audibly heard, but one that reverberated like the thunder of ocean waves, rumbled in the back of his mind, spoke.

"Greetings boy. You have been chosen to receive my power. The worlds once more require the assistance of ones like your parents. Now, you are the one who will stand in the gap, defending the weak. If you accept…"

The boy blinked, staring up at the massive animal.

"I've always wanted to do something like this! Something on my own, to help people. Count me in!"

The snake on the turtle's back leaned forward, its nose glowing a black color that seemed not to be darkness, but a deep version of light.

The boy reached out, allowing the glow to cover him as well.

Sora's eyes glistened in the moonlight as he stood amongst the silver grass of Kingdom Hearts. He could see the castle where a throne sat for him in the distance.

Why Kingdom Hearts called him here, he did not know.

But her dream made it seem urgent.

His feet clicked across the marble floor, down a hallway of moving stained glass. He saw a new window, two actually, showing the adventures of Kyo and the story of Yurisa.

"There you are."

As he entered the massive throne room, a woman in white appeared before him. Her white hair and eyes glistening in the moonlight.

"Hey, Kingdom Hearts, how are things?"

"Really? I send you a dream about a potential world-shattering issue and you ask me 'how are things'?"

"Yeah."

She laughed. "I forgot who I was talking to." Her expression soured. "Sora, we have a big problem."

"What is it?"

Holding out her hand, a piece of parchment appeared. "I need you to bring all the people on this list here as soon as you can. We are running out of time…"

"Alright." He took the list. "I'll be back." He glanced at the list. "We need all these people?"

"Trust me… we do. Now hurry."

"Ok."

As he disappeared through the doors, Kingdom Hearts stared at a stained glass window. A window depicting four people standing on rocks in the darkness. Across from them stood four people, flanked by four great beasts.

A blue dragon.

A red bird.

A white tiger.

A black tortoise.

And…

A strange golden creature with the body and horns of a deer, the tail of a fish, and the face of a dragon.

All of them locked in combat.

"I knew this time would come… I knew he would return…"

"Hisashi."

A girl stood on the edge of a volcano, but she felt no fear as the lave burst from the ground before her eyes.

"What is this place?" She asked calmly. She could not see the ground below her as black smoke obscured everything. With no vantage of the ground below her, it seemed safest to remain there on the edge of the mountain.

An explosion of flame rocked the ground as a bird burst from within the volcano, alighting on the edge beside her.

It's feathers, mostly red, but some tinged with orange, yellow, blue, and white, glinted in the red light.

It turned to her, deep yellow eyes glowing with its own internal fire.

A voice, which swirled like smoke in the back of her mind, crackled.

"Welcome, my dear. I have watched you for some time. And as this time of death and pain approaches, I have chosen you to wield my power to keep the worlds safe."

"Safe from what?"

"You shall soon know. But it is a threat as dangerous as Xehanort was to your father."

The girl's eyes flashed as she stiffened. "Then I accept your power. I refuse to let anyone like him run rampant again!"

The bird lowered its beak, a deep red glow glistening at the tip. The girl touched it, letting the glow spread over her.

Long, long ago…

A girl stood in an ornate room, panting as she dropped her bloody sword. Beside her, an older man in long robes grabbed her silk sleeves.

"Princess, you must leave! Your brother will stop at nothing to end your life!"

The princess's eyes scanned the mass of dead bodies around her. All soldiers who should have protected her… but now tried to kill her.

"Huang, I can't leave you and the o-"

"Go!" Huang knelt, pressing his hand to the back of her hand. "Princess, I would give my life to protect you. Your brother is a fool. You are this world's hope. Flee. Flee and live. I will be fine, I promise. I will find you again."

Feeling hot tears glistening in her eyes, the girl drew in a deep breath. "Fine… but you be safe. Find me again. You are my oldest and dearest friend. I need you with me… you and Thanh. When you come, bring him with you."

"I will."

Picking up her sword, she wiped the blood from it and sheathed it once again. Taking nothing but that weapon, the princess climbed from the palace window.

Vanishing into the night.

Time would soon bring her to Kameko, a man who cared for her when she felt alone. A farmer who acted as a father to the lost girl.

And soon, as she hoped, Huang and Thunh came to her side.

As did the wanted criminal, Yasuda.

Together, they stood agains the prince.

But they needed something… power.

And so they found it…

And found themselves atop an ancient mountain, swirling with clouds.

Kameko shifted his staff as he looked around the ancient ruins. "Are you sure they are here."

"Of course." Yasuda huffed. "This is the place."

"I can feel them here…"

"As can I."

The princess stepped forward, her hand on her heart. "Hurry… we must speak with them. Hopefully, they will help us."

"Lead the way…"

"Princess Zhuguang."

A boy found himself standing in a dark mine, lit with lanterns that cast light all around, reflecting off the glistening metals.

"What a strange place."

He heard a growls as something stalked down the tunnels toward him.

White fur appeared in the darkness as a large white tiger stalked toward him. The boy felt he should be afraid, but when no fear came, he realized it was but a dream.

So he stood there, calmly.

A soft ringing in the back of his mind turned into a clanging voice.

"You boy think you are not much in the grand scheme of the universe, but that is not true. I have chosen you… you will use my power to keep people safe among the worlds."

"You sound like a friend of mine…" The boy laughed. "Ok. I'll play your game… and if it is real, well, at least I can do something worthwhile."

The tiger looked a little annoyed at the boy's reasons for accepting, but held out a glowing white claw nonetheless. Allowing the boy to grab it, coating himself in a white light.

Maryushaka's hand gently brushed the picture of her late friend and master, Yen Sid as she approached the window.

He'd taught her to listen to the stars as he did, but she had a long way to go before she would be as good as he was.

Though, when her eyes reached up to the stars, she reeled back. The stars practically screamed at her.

Doom!

They cried out in fear.

The worlds called for help.

Help against a danger not yet there but not far away.

"What is going on!?" The girl called back.

Only for the stars to answer.

Her hand came up, summoning a book from the shelf as she frantically searched for what the stars said.

And she found it…

Though she wished she hadn't…

The girl found herself in a tall forest with trees that stood taller than any she'd ever seen. Soft light filtered from between the soft leaves.

"What a beautiful place…"

The leaves swirled through the air as a lithe body twisted through the trees. The girl gasped as a sapphire colored dragon reared up before her.

She laughed lightly. "Now this is a dream."

A rustling voice groaned in her head. "Hello, girl. You have suffered for a long time. But now you have a new opportunity to rise above it. I will give you my power, if you wish."

"As long as it's not a Keyblade, sure!"

"You are very cognizant in dreams."

"Well, I haven't had control of much in my life, so I controlled what I could. Including dreams. Now… give me that power you mentioned. It's going to make this dream amazing."

"I'm not sure you quite understand, girl. But if you wish…"

The dragon held out a blue glowing talon, letting the girl coat herself in the blue glow.

"How long has it been?"

"Three years."

"Three years!" Azul Ashengrotto(1) pushed up his fedora as the dusty light of the Keyblade Graveyard. "Three years in that dank place."

"Oh, I don't know. I think the Realm of Darkness is a dream, and I loved the Abyss!" Lilia Vanrouge's fangs flashed as he licked them.

"I must agree with Roi de Fort. There is no beauty in that place, no matter how much power it gives us." Rook tipped his feathered cap at Azul.

Dire Crowley's eyes glimmered under his mask. "I enjoy it… I may not have spent a hundred lifetimes there, like our master, but I have spent my fair share of time there. Speaking of… Master, what shall we do now?"

A figure, dressed in armor stood up, the wind whipping around him.

"Now… we hunt."

The girl found herself standing on a cloud, looking down over a stunning mountain range. The crisp air swirled around her.

Across the sky, she saw a creature approaching her. A majestic beast with fur and scales of bright gold. It looked like a dragon at first, but as it approached, she saw that it only had the head of a dragon; it had the body of a deer and the tail of a koi fish. It looked majestic.

A wispy voice swirled in the girl's mind. "Greetings, girl. It is an honor to meet you finally. The one who will take my place."

"Take your place?"

"You will soon understand. You seek a purpose, and I have one for you. One that will open doors for you to save the worlds. If you wish."

"A chance to save the worlds… I want it. Please… this is all I've ever wanted."

"Then take it." Its head, glowing a deep gold, bent down and touched her.

The warm glow gold covered her entire body.

"Now the time has come… for virtue to rise again."
