Introduction
Artemis has a sad secret. One that frightens her but she can't tell. She has a curse on her. One that connects her to her brother. She is scared that when he finds out he would see her differently or do something. But after they have a fight and he tells her to stay away from Camp. For some reason she listens. Apollo goes to talk to her after another threat to Olympus comes and the truth come out about a Curse connected to him…
Chapter .1.
Artemis wasn't like people thought she was. Not as cold and uncaring like she appeared publicly. Apollo seemed to at least see the real her. But didn't know all. She really was a scared girl who couldn't get the help and support she desperately needed.
But at the moment Apollo appeared frustrated with her. Not that she could blame him. She hadn't helped as much as she liked during his quest. One time she got away with it sending Britomartis. But after that their Father watched her like a hawk. Until Apollo's call for help during New Rome. His near order for her to come made her able to sneak away from her Father and when found out she had to help she didn't get in trouble because everyone thought it was the spell that called her to him. If only it was as simple as that and as nice as that. Wouldn't she have given everything there was for that to be the case.
But no it wasn't.
The spell just enhanced her need to get to him. His round-a-bout order to come.
She was unable to disobey an order.
Well she could disobey anyone's order.
Except one.
Apollo.
That was why she tried to push him away so much. Until he unknowingly bought them back together.
But now it seemed he had enough.
"You know what Artemis stay away from Camp and stay away from me and Meg! I'll come to you if I need you. Not like I would, as you wouldn't help anyway", Apollo shouts at her.
Artemis flinches and whimpers internally as pressure comes over her mind and it felt like a headache but different.
"Fine", Artemis grits out already crying inside.
He flashed away and she sees the Hunters looking at her with mixed emotions.
"Don't you all have better things to do?" Artemis whispers her eyes appearing for a moment to look broken and defeated.
They all quickly turn and go back to their duties.
Artemis quickly walked inside her tent and closed the flat. She slid down the wall. Tears falling. She had no choice but to comply with Apollo's wish.
Her mind won't allow her not to.
Unless Apollo made a counter order.
You see she had what she called a curse on her. An obedience curse. Any order Apollo gave to her even if it was joking or suggestive she HAD to obey. There was no way she couldn't and believe you me she had tried. But her mind wouldn't obey her. Her body wouldn't obey her. Her mouth wouldn't obey her.
But Apollo could.
Yet he didn't know it. She seemed unable to be able to tell him or anyone. Again she had tried. But couldn't. Whoever did this was a sick bastard that enjoyed her suffering. But she didn't know who. She had no clue or interaction from anyone she knew that they had done this too her.
Only person she could completely rule out was her brother.
But sometimes her mind couldn't help but tell her not too. After all he could order her to do anything he wanted, and she would be powerless to fight it.
However was she going to get out of this?
Two Months Later…
It had been two months since the fight between Artemis and Apollo. And the Hunters had never seen Artemis act this way. She didn't even try to go talk to Apollo. And she wouldn't talk about it or be talked into seeing him.
Artemis felt a meeting being called and she flashed to Olympus and sat down silently. Like her Hunters they had noticed Artemis avoiding Apollo with such precision. They couldn't work out how.
Everyone was there just not Apollo. That was probably why she managed to flash here.
Last she heard was that Apollo was busy at Camp Half-Blood helping build the Shrines to the Gods. To for fill Jason's wish.
And because of his unknown order she couldn't go near him. This obedience curse between them didn't mean she couldn't miss him and what his comfort he provided.
Artemis basically knew what the meeting was about. Monsters attacks had increased and ancient monsters had risen.
Something was coming.
"Artemis!" she heard suddenly.
She tried not to jump and looked at everyone appearing to be annoyed.
"What?" she asks sharply.
Everyone looked at her. They have heard of the fight of course. And had tried talking to her she didn't have a bare of it and didn't seem to want to try and reconcile. And Apollo wasn't moving he was apparently waiting for her to come apologies. According to Hermes anyway.
"We need to pool our resources as you know the Ancient Laws have been relaxed", Zeus states.
"And?" Artemis asks looking uninterested.
But she had a sinking feeling in her gut.
"And I want you and the Hunts at Camp Half-Blood", Zeus says seriously.
"You have got to be kidding me", Artemis exclaims keeping in character.
"I am not. You AND your Hunters will report to Camp within the next two hours", Zeus tells her sternly.
Lucky for her she wasn't forced to obey him. She would have to come up with a story for herself. But she would HAVE to send her Hunters. She would have done it anyway. But she would be obviously unable to join them.
"Fine", she snaps and flashes away it what appeared to the other Gods to be a huff.
She stumbles on landing outside her Camp.
Artemis closed her eyes.
How did this become her life?
She had to send her Hunters off without her and deceive them and her family. She had to have a story they would all believe.
Artemis took a few minutes to collect herself and school her features. She took a breath and steadied herself.
She walked into her Camp with a serious expression Thalia and Reyna notice her first.
"What is wrong Milady?" they ask as everyone gathers round.
"You are needed at Camp", Artemis states truthfully.
Shouts of complaints were heard and Artemis raises her hand.
"No arguments. You have been ordered by Zeus himself. Because of the Monster problem we have been having", Artemis replies.
"When do WE leave?" Thalia asks resigned.
"YOU leave after you pack up", Artemis replies.
They all heard what Artemis was saying she wasn't coming with them.
"Why?" Reyna asks.
Now it was time for the lies.
"Because there have been signs of an ancient monster lurking near here. I am going to hunt it", Artemis lies.
There were protests again.
"Last time you went hunting a monster alone you didn't come back. You were kidnapped and we lost two of our own", Phoebe points out.
Artemis turns to her, "I am well aware of that. Thank you", she says coldly.
They wince of course she was aware of that. Zoe had been her best friend. And they knew her death had affected their Mistress greatly.
"Sorry", Phoebe says weakly.
"Pack up. I will teleport you near camp and then go after the monster", Artemis tells them leaving no room for argument.
Artemis leaves them to pack. She waits near the edge of camp. Looking at the sun. She missed him. But she couldn't do a thing about it.
Would she ever see him again? Would he forgive her? If her curse was found out what would he do? Be disgusted? Be happy he could control her? Help? Comfort her? Or would he do something worse?
No matter how well she thought she knew her brother those dark thoughts kept her up at night.
Suddenly she heard a cough and saw the Hunters ready for her.
"You are to go to Camp and do as the Council order till I come back and listen to Thalia and Reyna after them", Artemis tells them.
But her voice seemed off to them.
"Yes Milady", they say as they didn't want to get on her bad side again today.
Artemis nods, "Close your eyes"
Artemis teleports them as close as she dared to Camp Half-Blood. But still she felt the pressure on her mind.
"Are you coming with us the rest of the way?" Thalia asks her noticing that they were not close to Camp.
Maybe she was still angry about earlier.
"No. I can't…no I must Hunt the creature. I'll see you soon", she lies.
And flashes back to the deserted Camp. She packs up her things with tears in her eyes.
Why couldn't her life be as it was so, so long ago?
She flashes away seeming to disappear away from everyone and everything.
At least for now.
Till Apollo counter ordered her.
But what was the likelihood of that? Especially at how angry he was. As it was Artemis didn't know her reading of emotions at the moment with this curse was out of whack. So she read expressions wrong. But that this time she reckoned as what he said was any interaction.
So she fell to the ground sobbing hugging her knees and crying her pain, sadness and depression out.
Not aware that everything was about to change…
