Chapter 37: Hot Pursuit
Asuka and Yasui rushed out into the street in a wave of panicked people. They stopped in the middle of the street as they watched the Flying Nimbus zoom down towards them.
"That stupid flashbang got us good." Asuka complained.
Bulma and Hama sat on the nimbus as Zika hung from the underside. Zika dropped to the ground as Bulma pulled up beside them.
"What's going on?" Yasui asked.
"We spotted the Akatsuki loading into a hot air balloon and fleeing the auction house." Bulma explained.
"A hot air balloon?" Asuka gaped and said, "That's awesome."
"Renji, Shuhei and Mugen are in pursuit of them already." Zika said.
"Which way?"
"Southwest."
Asuka detached his legs from his feet and floated in the air. "Yasui, pick up my feet and tuck them into your armpit."
"Huh?!"
"If my feet aren't touching the ground then I can't control the rest of my body. If the bottom of my feet are touching you then it bypasses that condition." Asuka explained.
"Oh, I get it!" Yasui picked up Asuka's feet and tucked them into his armpit. Asuka grabbed his shoulders as Yasui turned his feet into wheels.
"Let's go!" Asuka shouted as Yasui sped off down the street and headed southwest.
"C'mon." Bulma waved Zika to get on the nimbus.
"It's cumbersome for all three of us on the nimbus." Zika sighed and said, "Go on without us."
Hama jumped off the back of the nimbus and Bulma sped off through the sky. Zika petted Hama and said, "Let's see if we can bum a ride off someone." Hama barked.
Renji held tightly to a chain attached to the bottom of the Akatsuki's basket. The hot air balloon sailed hurriedly over Yorknew City and Renji swayed as he formed a plan.
Cars, carriages and horses sped through the streets in hot pursuit of the hot air balloon. Between the twists and turns of the skyscrapers Renji spotted the brilliant yellow of the Flying Nimbus low in the streets.
The hot air balloon drifted over the outside of the city limits and moved into the rocky wasteland beyond Yorknew City. Renji looked around and spotted a jutting spire of rock reaching up into the sky.
Renji hurled a chain from his free hand and wrapped it around the spire of rock. He released his grasp on the chain attached to the basket and yanked himself to the spire. He landed on his feet and waved his hands, steel chains with blades tips shot from his arms and pierced the balloon and basket!
The hot air balloon began losing altitude quickly and tumbled onto a lifted platform of stone fifty meters from where Renji stood. The basket landed roughly and settled as the balloon draped onto the stone.
One by one; Raizen, Franklin, Gabriel, Machi, Haku and Kitana hopped out of the basket and scanned the surrounding area.
"What the hell was that?" Raizen asked as he scratched the back of his head.
"There's a chain attached to the basket." Machi said and pointed it out to the others.
"Someone hitched a ride with us?" Haku asked aloud.
"Here they come." Franklin said and pointed to the dust storm that heralded the approaching mafiosos.
"The ants come marching one by one." Raizen sang to himself.
"What's the move?" Gabriel questioned.
"Leave 'em to me!" Raizen called out and leapt from the lifted stone platform.
"Raizen, wait! I'll come too!" Haki shouted as Raizen leapt.
"Let him do it." Franklin said.
"Yeah, he's got it." Machi stated and pulled a deck of cards from her pocket.
"Yeah, okay." Haku sighed and said, "Then bullshit it is."
Haku, Machi, Kitana and Gabriel said down as Machi shuffled and dealt the cards.
"You aren't playing?" Gabriel asked Franklin.
Franklin shook his head and said, "I'm gonna get to work on this one." He reached into the basket and pulled out the unconscious man. He tossed him on the ground and said, "Wait a second…"
Franklin reached down and opened the man's mouth.
"What are you doing?!" Kitana exclaimed.
"This guy has gold teeth." Franklin said and grinned.
"Real gold?" Machi asked.
"Let's find out." Franklin said and yanked out one of the man's teeth. "Yep!"
Bulma rode on her Flying Nimbus beside Asuka and Yasui as they zoomed down the street. They approached the outskirts of the city when Bulma's Baby Transponder Snail began ringing.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Bulma, this is Renji. Are you on the nimbus?"
"Yeah, that's me." Bulma said as she sped onward.
"The Akatsuki are going to clash with the mafia bodyguards. Don't let anyone engage them, alright? Take up a position away from them." Renji said quickly.
"Yeah, alright." Bulma said and Renji ended the call.
"What did he say?" Asuka shouted.
"He doesn't want us to fight the Akatsuki. Instead he wants us to take up a position and wait." Bulma explained.
"What?!" Asuka groaned.
"It's the right move. We should observe the Akatsuki instead of blindly attacking them." Yasui said as they continued speeding onward.
Cars, horses and carriages pulled up and mafiosos leapt from them and stood tall as they stared at Raizen. Raizen grinned widely and walked slowly towards the mob. One of the mafiosos stepped forward with a pistol in his hand, he and Raizen stopped in front of each other and stared.
Raizen stood three feet taller than the mobster and looked down at him with a grin, "Yo."
The man aimed his pistol at Raizen and said, "Hand over the merchandise, shitface."
Raizen rolled his eyes and the man fired his gun, Raizen caught the bullet between his teeth and uppercutted the man swiftly. The man's head flew from his shoulders and blood sprayed around as his body hit the ground. Raizen spat the bullet onto his corpse and laughed.
A hailstorm of bullets and rockets erupted all around him and a dust storm kicked up furiously. When the dust settled, Raizen stood completely coated in Armament Haki. He Shaved at the mafiosos and smashed furious strikes into the mob as he flew through them.
Bullets bounced off of Raizen's hardened body as he broke necks with swift palm strikes. Raizen threw a right cross that shattered the skull of a thin man in a blue cloak. He jabbed a tall woman in the forehead with a Finger Pistol. He Shaved and pounced around wildly as he shattered and broke the ants that surrounded him.
"Three sixes." Kitana said and placed her cards facedown on the pile.
The sounds of gunshots and screams echoed out as Raizen tore through the pawns of the Ten Dons.
"Sounds like he's having fun." Haku said and set a card facedown on the pile, "One seven."
"Bullshit." Machi said and flipped the top card over to reveal a three of clubs.
"Dammit." Haku muttered and picked up the pile of cards.
"He's absolutely enjoying himself." Gabriel smiled and said, "His philosophy is to be the strongest. Down there he's a gorilla among ants."
"One eight." Machi laid a card facedown.
Franklin set a bloody knife on the ground and pulled a yellow perfectly spherical apple from the toothless and dead body of the man they had abducted. "I thought so." He muttered.
"Two nines." Gabriel set his cards on the pile and looked at Franklin, "What's that?"
"This is the Door-Door Fruit. I had thought so when I saw that man use his ability but I needed to see it to be sure." Franklin smiled and bit into the fruit.
"Whoa."
"I thought you wanted the Glare-Glare Fruit?" Kitana asked.
Franklin coughed and dropped the rest of the Devil Fruit on the ground, "This one is cool too."
Raizen kicked a fat man in the stomach and slammed his left fist into his jaw and dislocated it! A loud crack sounded and a bullet struck Raizen in the forehead. He stumbled to his left and picked up a rock. Raizen imbued the rock with Armament Haki and chucked it at the sniper who had shot him. He saw the sniper fall from his vantage point and he grinned.
A mafioso aimed a large bazooka at Raizen and shouted, "This super-bazooka can destroy a tank, you're done for!"
"Pathetic. You're comparing me to some little tank?"
"Die!" The mafioso shouted and blasted Raizen with the super-bazooka.
A wild explosion rocked the area and nearby mafiosos were blasted away. The smoke and flames were blown away by the wind and Razien stood tall with a smile on his face.
"Wow, that stung just a little bit." Raizen said and Shaved at the man with the super-bazooka and decapitated him with a left cross.
Raizen kicked a man in the chest and knocked him back into three other mafiosos. He sent a Tempest Kick flying at them and split the four of them in half.
Asuka, Bulma and Yasui stood on a ridge watching as the wild man covered in Armament Haki shredded through the mafiosos. Asuka and Yasui watched as Bulma used her Baby Transponder Snail to call Zika.
"Yo." Zika answered.
"Zika, where are you?" Bulma asked.
"Hama and I are in a car right now. We're heading to the outskirts right now."
"Listen, don't go straight to the battle. Veer to the right as you approach the scene and head to the ridge. That's where we are." Bulma explained.
"Hell no!" Someone on Zika's end shouted. "We're gonna fight hose fucks."
"Wait, if Bulma tells us not to go then we shouldn't." A voice, obviously Zika, responded quickly.
"A single one of these Akatsuki members has murdered almost everyone who has arrived. He single handedly took them out." Bulma said slowly.
"What? Really?"
"Just veer to the right as you approach the area." Bulma said and ended the call. As she ended that call, her snail began ringing again. She answered, "Yeah?"
"Bulma, it's Shuhei. Mugen and I are at a vantage point overlooking the massacre."
Bulma looked around the area and asked, "Where?"
"Don't worry, we can see you guys and Renji too. And there's a car speeding towards you guys." Shuhei said.
"Yeah that should be Zika." Bulma said and turned to see the approaching vehicle.
"What's the plan?" Shuhei asked.
"Renji told us to hang back." Bulma said slowly.
"Well, this show is almost over."
"I assume that Renji wants to make the first move." Asuka said matter-of-factly.
"Whoa, this should be good. The Shadow Beasts are moving in." Shuhei said quickly and ended the call.
"The who?!"
Raizen grabbed the last mafioso by his head and crushed it in his left hand. The black sheen of his Armament Haki faded off of his body as he cackled and stomped over corpses. He turned and began walking toward the others on the stone platform when he spotted a man swimming in the dirt and rock beneath him.
"Huh?" Raizen was caught off guard and the swimming man leapt up behind Raizen and suplexed him swiftly! Raizen was slammed onto his head and he rolled away quickly and hopped up to his feet.
The man wore a tight purple gi and sunglasses, he smiled at Raizen and cracked his knuckles. "You broke all of our pawns."
"Are you one of those Shadow Beasts?" Raizen asked.
A short woman in a hybrid rabbit form pounced from Raizen's right and slammed a savage kick into the side of his head. He moved to strike her with his left hand and a thick elongated tongue wrapped around his left wrist. A man in a hybrid frog form smiled at Raizen as the rabbit-woman kicked him in the chest.
The frogman was suddenly yanked forward by Raizen and crashed hard into the rabbit-woman. They tumbled across the dirt and Raizen laughed loudly as he popped his neck.
The rabbit-woman and frogman jumped up to their feet and stood at the ready. The man in the purple gi smiled and took a few steps forward. Raizen looked over his shoulder and spotted three more people behind him. A man in a hybrid boar form, a man in a hybrid hyena form and a tall thin man with a fedora on his head.
"Hahaha. Now this could be interesting!" Raizen called out and laughed crazily.
Frog, the frogman, shot his tongue at Raizen who caught it quickly! Raizen pulled Frog forward with his tongue and he flew at Raizen. As Raizen flexed his left arm, thick muscle bulged and wrapped around it as he crushed Frog's head with a swift strike.
Frog's corpse slumped to the ground as Raizen wrapped his torso and right arm in muscle. He grinned wickedly and looked around at his surrounding opponents, "Come on!"
The rabbit-woman, Hare, sprang at Raizen and they exchanged a quick flurry of blows. The hyena-man, Mongrel, Shaved at Raizen and bit down hard into his right shoulder. As Mongrel shredded into thick muscle, Hare sprang up and slammed a kick down onto Raizen's head.
Raizen roared wildly and flung Mongrel off of his shoulder and down into the ground. Hare sprang forward and Raizen blocked a swift kick with his arm as Leech, the swimming man, leapt out of the ground and struck Raizen with a strong uppercut. Raizen clenched his left fist and slammed a furious punch into Hare's chest and sent her skipping across the ground.
Leech and Mongrel skipped away from Raizen and the Shadow Beasts took a pentagonal formation around him. Raizen grinned as he looked around and he wiped blood from his right shoulder.
"Let's do it." The boarman, Boar, said quickly.
"Right…" Sloth, the man in the fedora, muttered as his body began deflating.
Sloth's body became thin and lightweight and Boar grabbed him and put him on like a jumpsuit..! Boar zipped up the human jacket and the two Shadow Beasts became one!
"What the fuck? That's disgusting…" Raizen said and laughed wildly.
Boar, wearing Sloth, charged forward and exchanged a mad flurry of blows with Raizen as Mongrel and Hare dashed forward to join in. Raizen wrapped even more muscle around his arms and struck Boar/Sloth in the head with a devastating right cross. Mongrel leapt in the air and sank his teeth again into Raizen's right shoulder as Hare Shaved forward and slammed a heavy kick into Raizen's stomach.
Raizen leapt back with Mongrel latched onto his shoulder as blood poured from his tearing muscles. Raizen opened his mouth wide and hardened his teeth with Armament Haki as he chomped into the side of Mongrel's head! Blood, brain matter and skull fragments burst from Mongrel as Raizen tore out the left side of his head. Mongrel hit the ground and twitched as Raizen turned to face Hare.
Hare was frozen in shock and Raizen coated a large chunk of Mongrel's skull with Haki and spat it at her with tremendous force. Hare lifted her right hand to deflect the hardened skull fragment and it blew straight through her palm and forehead, leaving large holes in both.
Raizen cackled and wiped blood and brain matter from his mouth. He stared at Leech and Boar/Sloth and said, "Three down, three to go."
