Jaune slowly came to consciousness with a content groan as the morning sunlight hit his face. He opened his eyes to look through the window to the rising sun in the distance. He laid there for a bit, just relishing in the warmth of the person pushed up against his back and their arms around his stomach. His smile grew as he looked over his shoulder to see Nora, fast asleep and quietly snoring into his back.
Normally he'd just lay there and not risk waking her but he had plans for this lazy Sunday and he had to get up. With practiced ease, he slipped from her arms and the bed immediately after. She whined in her sleep at his absence, her arms reaching out to find him. That was until she rolled over onto his still warm side of the bed and went back to sleep, snoring much louder now.
He just smiled at her before he quietly moved out of their room and shut the door behind himself. He then silently made his way down the hall, being especially quiet by passing the door halfway down. It eventually made his way to the kitchen. He turned his scroll on to listen to some music as he started to mix pancake batter for all three of them to have a nice breakfast. This was their one year anniversary after all.
A few years back, Ren regrettably went on a mission and didn't come back. Leaving behind Nora and their two year old son, Li. Nora went through a rough time after that and Jaune was the one that came over to make sure the two of them were alright. It took a lot of time between getting Nora out of her funk and taking care of Li but eventually, Nora was able to get back on her feet. And it wasn't long after that, to the shock of a lot of people, that the two of them started dating and Jaune moved in with her permanently.
Jaune just smiled to himself as he heard a familiar song come on. It was getting popular in some circles so he had been hearing it a lot lately.
(Play My Boy by Elvie Shane.)
As the melody started to play, he couldn't stop himself from singing as he began to flip the pancakes.
He ain't got my smile, that don't bother me a bit
He's got somebody else's eyes I'm seein' myself in
I'm holdin' onto every moment, God knows I've missed a few
The day we met, I knew I had some catchin' up to do
He ain't my blood, ain't got my name
But if he did, I'd feel the same
I wasn't there for his first steps
But I ain't missed a ball game yet
And that ain't ever gonna change
I could never walk away
Yeah, he's my son and that's my choice
He ain't my blood, but he's my, he's my boy
It hit me like a train, the first time he called me dad
In a three stick figure crayon picture with all of us holdin' hands
His mama said, "I understand if it's too soon for this"
He smiled and turned to the fridge where a very similar drawing was also hanging up.
I didn't let her finish, I took it to the kitchen and I stuck it on the fridge, yeah
He ain't my blood, ain't got my name
But if he did, I'd feel the same
I wasn't there for his first steps
But I ain't missed a ball game yet
And that ain't ever gonna change
I could never walk away
Yeah, he's my son and that's my choice
He ain't my blood, but he's my, he's my boy
He was so absorbed in the song and what he was doing. He missed Nora leaning against the doorway and smiling at him with so much love.
He's Saturday morning cartoons
He's, "Hey, can I sleep in your room?"
He's bigger than the plans I had
He's makin' me a better man
He ain't my blood, ain't got my name
But if he did, I'd feel the same
I wasn't there for his first steps
But I ain't missed a ball game yet
And that ain't ever gonna change
I could never walk away
Yeah, he's my son and that's my choice
He ain't my blood, but he's my, he's my boy
Yeah, he's my, he's my boy
As the song ended, Jaune was busy stacking all the freshly made pancakes onto a plate. He was about to start the next ones but stopped when he felt Nora hug him from behind and give him a large kiss to his cheek. "Morning, Jaune." she said happily.
"Good morning." He answered with his own smile. "Did you sleep well?"
She held him a bit tighter, "Amazing."
He peeked over his shoulder to look at the top of her head, "You're particularly clingy today."
"I just love you so you get extra hugs, deal with it." She said with her usual energy.
He rolled his eyes playfully before he put down his spatula, "I mean I would but you're making it difficult to cook and I'm not burning the next batch."
"Fine." She said before she let him go. Before he knew it, she had spun him around to face her and jumped onto him. Her legs went around his waist and her arms around his neck before she slammed her lips onto his own.
He was shocked for all of a second before he started to kiss her back, his arms wrapping around her to keep her close. They eventually pulled apart, smiling like fools. "What was that for?" he asked.
She shrugged, her eyes shining, "Just wanted to show you how much I love you. And how much I appreciate what you've done for us."
He gently rubbed her cheek, "You don't need to. I love you both and I'm not going anywhere."
They were interrupted when they heard a yawn. Jaune gently put Nora down as the five year old Li Ren-Valkyrie came into the kitchen, dressed in his green pajamas. He was gently rubbing his eyes as he looked up at them. "Good morning, Mommy and Daddy."
Nora instantly skipped over to her son and scooped him up, "Good morning, my baby boy." She said cheerfully as she started to shower him in kisses. He just laughed at that before Nora passed him over to Jaune.
Jaune took him with practiced ease before smiling at the black haired and pink eyed boy that reminded him so much of his brother. "You hungry for some pancakes."
"Yes!" he said instantly.
Jaune sat him down into his chair and gave him half the stack before giving the other half to Nora. He then went back to the stove to begin cooking the next patch. The entire time he held a smile of contentedness, joy and love.
A/N- Here it is, the last chapter of Jaune of Music. I couldn't find the right song for a Nora Reverse Search for Closure so I settled on doing one for her son. A lot of people have been asking for more of them so I hope it worked out.
This was a fun story to do, just nice short stories. Nice to just to focus on them on those busy weeks or when my Writer's Block gets too bad. I'm gonna miss it and I could honestly keep doing new chapter but I think it is about time to move onto new things. I will probably work on a new chapter for Paw Prints of the Heart or A Flame in the Dark next. There is also an update on my profile about what I plan to do for 2022 so if your curious, check it out.
I hoped you all enjoyed this chapter and the story as a whole. Maybe it struck your interest enough to check out my other works. With that, I wish you all the best and hope to see you all in the next story!
