Adventures of Supergirl 7x05
Alex and Kelly got dressed up for John Milton's party featuring many of the wealthiest and well-connected people of Metropolis. "I don't think I can do this," Alex said nervously.
"You can do this," Kelly assured her.
"Promise me you won't leave me alone with those sharks," Alex said distressed.
"If you can handle weird-ass aliens that want to kill you, this should be easy. I'll be easy for you to find me if you need me," Kelly told her.
The two kissed and then the elevator doors opened. Nia was first to greet them. "Hey, awesome you two could show up," she gushed.
"Sorry we're late," Alex said awkwardly.
"Don't worry about it. Barney said you would be," Nia smiled.
Alex gave her a WTF look. "Dr. Alex Danvers and Dr. Kelly Olsen, social justice warriors," Brainiac 5 said condescendingly as he walked up to them.
"Nice to see you again, Barney," Kelly said politely.
"Likewise," Brainiac 5 smiled at her. "Well, Alex, here they are. The top of the food chain of human society."
Brainiac 5 escorted Alex around introducing her to various wealthy people that congratulated her on saving President Dibala. Brainiac 5 then brought Alex and Kelly over to Senator James Olsen and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schummer. "These are the power-players of New York," Brainiac 5 introduced.
"You understate it," James smiled amused.
Hank then pulled Alex aside separating her from Kelly to meet other people. John then arrived, late for his own party, and shook hands with Chuck and James. John then went up to Kelly instantly identifier her. "Kelly Olsen, John Milton," he introduced himself to her. "I was hoping I would see you tonight and here you are."
John then sat down with Kelly on the couch while drinking wine. "Well, it's a great opportunity for Alex," Kelly said conversationally.
"Yes, Alex, she'll do alright," John assured her. "Buys a few more lab coats, learns a few more tricks, she's there. What about you?" he asked concernedly.
"What do you mean?" Kelly asked.
"What about your family? Ever thought to go back and leave Metropolis behind?" John asked curiously.
"My parents are dead. It's just me and James," Kelly said.
"For me, the only thing worse than not having a father around was mine," John said reflectively.
"Sorry to hear that," Kelly said sympathetically.
"Have you heard it said that the worst advice is half-advice?" John asked knowingly.
"I have," Kelly nodded.
"May I make a suggestion? It's sensitive," John said seriously.
"This is a safe space. Just tell me what's on your mind," Kelly said going into shrink-mode.
"It's about your hair," John said vaguely.
"You don't like it?" Kelly asked alarmed.
"No, I think it's fine. It's beautiful. It just doesn't belong to you," John said of Kelly's perfectly straight black hair. "You should allow your hair to be naturally frizzy the way it was meant to be."
"I've heard that before," Kelly said noddingly.
"Do it. See what happens," John suggested.
"Okay," Kelly agreed.
"It's fun to be right," John smiled victoriously.
Meanwhile, Alex found Kara outside on the balcony alone staring off into space. "You like your new view from your apartment or did you like downtown better?" Kara asked her.
"Which one is easier for you to spy on me from?" Alex shot back.
"Is the job everything you had expected?" Kara asked.
"More," Alex said appreciatively.
"Did you come alone?" Kara asked.
"You know the answer to that question," Alex said knowingly.
"Is Kelly a jealous woman?" Kara asked conversationally.
"Not really," Alex noted.
"I bet you like to be on top," Kara assumed.
"Excuse you?" Alex thought she misheard.
"Of the situation," Kara clarified.
"Depends on the view," Alex stared her down.
John then entered the balcony. "You know what I see?" he asked interrupting them. "I see the future of Metropolis General."
"Just Alex. I'm not long for this world," Kara said walking off.
John ignored Kara and focused on Alex. "We need to talk."
"What's up?" Alex asked.
"Something came up. You're needed at Metropolis General," John said seriously.
Alex checked her phone and noticed the page. "Shit, I'll be right there," she said taking off and forgetting Kelly was still at the party.
At the same time, Hank was talking it up with some rich folks about business. "I say we ride her hard and then eat her up."
"What if she refuses?" the businessman replied back.
"If she doesn't come to me, she'll regret it," Hank replied.
"Have you seen Alex?" Kelly asked concernedly.
"Nope," Hank said not volunteering to tell her that he knew she wasn't in the building.
Alex came home late at night and found Kelly in her bathrobe waiting for her. "You left me there," she said pissed off. "Three hours, you don't even call?"
"Stop, reset," Alex stopped her. "I was called away to Metropolis General for emergency surgery. If I hadn't been there, there would have been a really good possibility the patient would be dead now. Don't you see? I had to bail on the party."
"I get it, Alex. I really do but you need to communicate with me better. You left me with those sharks not knowing where you were. I had to take a cab to get home," Kelly said disappointedly.
"No one told me where I went? Kara, Hank, Barney...," Alex listed off.
"No," Kelly shook her head.
"Those assholes. Look, I'll do better," Alex promised sincerely.
"Come to bed," Kelly said softening her expression.
Alex nodded realizing she had fucked up and followed Kelly to their bedroom.
The next morning, Hank looked over Paul Nal with Nia by his side. "Looks like you had a seizure. Has it happened before?" Hank asked.
"No, nothing," Paul said confused.
"He's been really healthy, he jogs, he eats right," Nia brought up.
"I did have a headache last Sunday," Paul recalled. "For the last two years, I've had acid reflex a lot. I thought antacids were all I needed."
"I should have dreamed this," Nia said disappointed in herself.
"Yeah, maybe," Hank muttered. "Nia, I heard the coffee downstairs doesn't taste like shit. Go get some," he ordered her out of the room. Hank then turned to Paul. "I have X-ray vision. Your right testicle is twice the size as your left. Explain that shit."
Hank entered Kara's office where she was bouncing a ball off the wall bored. "It's probably testicular cancer," Hank said.
"If it was testicular cancer, you wouldn't be here wasting my time," Kara replied. "You would have needled the patient's balls for a biopsy to confirm and then we would be all playing bowling this afternoon. Except for maybe Nia because that would seem insensitive."
"The MRI is clean," Hank said defensively.
"There's shit in his brain," Kara said as she looked at the brain scan with her falcon vision.
"It's just a shadow," Hank doubted.
"Or, or, or, it's an infection," Kara countered.
"Blood tests didn't show shit," Hank argued.
"Then, treat for everything," Kara threw up her hands.
"How the fuck does that make any sense?" Hank wondered.
"It's probably lymphoma. It's always lymphoma," Kara mused.
Hank went back to have a chat with Paul. "We think you got an STD," Hank said bluntly with Nia in the room. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were still in the room."
"Have you tested him for this?" Nia doubted.
"The tests were negative," Hank admitted.
"Then, it can't be that," Paul said adamantly.
"You better hope it is, old man, or you're fucked," Hank informed him. "So, who did you fuck?"
"I haven't had sex since my wife passed away," Paul denied.
"Yeah, bullshit," Hank doubted.
In downtown Metropolis, Kelly went shopping with Nia and M'gann. Her hair was now frizzy like an afro. At first, they went window-shopping. "Not if they were giving it away," M'gann said disgustedly at a red dress.
"Come on, Kelly. Let's check out Josie's," Nia suggested.
The three entered an elite clothing store and hung out in a large changing room. As they tried on clothes, M'gann and Nia had some wine. Kelly was mostly beside herself not overly interested in new clothes or spending money on them.
"No, no, no," Kelly objected as M'gann poured her a glass of wine.
"Yes, yes, yes," M'gann encouraged pouring her a glass. "You need to loosen up, Kelly."
"This is...three thousand dollars," Kelly pointed out a very rainbow-looking shirt.
"You should buy it and wear it once. Then throw it away," M'gann advised. "That's what I always do."
"That's because you can shapeshift clothes on your body," Kelly pointed out.
"Barney is such a miracle man. Look at my new tits. Do they look real to you?" Nia asked completely topless. "Not too big, not too small, just perfect."
"It's not your tits that should concern you. How about those hips?" M'gann judged.
Nia ignored her. "Do they look real?" she asked Kelly.
"Absolutely," Kelly assured her.
"Feel them," Nia invited.
"Oh, no, it's okay," Kelly declined.
"Go ahead, it's the ultimate test," Nia insisted and then placed Kelly's hand on them. "Feel real?"
"Yes, very real," Kelly said uncomfortably.
"Barney, he is a genius," Nia said pulling away.
M'gann then put on a new shirt. As she did, Kelly saw M'gann with a demonic-looking face with sunken eyes, fucked-up teeth, and a diseased face. She then saw hands groping M'gann's body but from the inside from her breasts down to her hips. It only lasted a few seconds but it was enough to freak Kelly the fuck out. She immediately bolted from the room. M'gann and Nia gave Kelly an odd look as she tore out of there.
At Metropolis General, Kara entered Paul's room. "You remember me?" Kara asked smirkingly.
"How could I forget all those Xenophobic, gay, and trans jokes that one time we invited you over to dinner?" Paul recalled.
"I hear you'd rather die than admit you've had sex after your wife's passing," Kara mocked.
"I couldn't with my daughter in the room," Paul finally admitted.
"I think she's old enough to understand," Kara mocked.
"You have no idea how awkward it was to talk to her about sex growing up," Paul muttered.
Kara stopped what she was about to do. "Oh?"
"She was always interested in boys but didn't know how it worked," Paul said.
"She's so smart. You should be so proud," Kara mocked. "Roll your ass over."
"Nia is just getting over her mother's death. She hasn't spoken to Maeve for months," Pual continued. "If my daughters knew how I got sick...,"
Kara jabbed him with a needle interrupting him. "We just happened to be at the same cheese factory but it was just one night," Paul said vaguely. "Nia has this idea in her head that I should be celibate for the rest of my life as a grieving widower."
Kara paused as she considered how she would react to Mon's death, a very very likely prospect in light of his typical routine. "She just doesn't get it. Just because my wife passed away doesn't mean you stop living. But I guess if I had been celibate, my testicles wouldn't be exploding right now," Paul said bitterly.
Nia then entered the room. "Is everything okay?" she asked anxiously.
"I have an STD," Paul admitted.
"How is that possible?" Nia asked shocked and appalled.
"The toilet seat," Kara lied.
Paul thought that was hilarious and started to laugh hysterically. "I know, I'm a...funny girl," Kara rolled her eyes. Paul then started coughing up blood. "Oh, shit," Kara realized.
Alex, Hank, and Brainiac 5 rushed into the room with medical supplies. A tube was placed inside Paul's mouth and then pumped to give him air. "How could an STD cause this?" Nia asked stunned.
"It wouldn't," Kara sighed.
Kara, Alex, and Hank investigated Paul's medical issue. "The problem isn't his lung but his heart. There are obstructions with his heart valves," Alex said helpfully.
"It's not an STD. It wouldn't react that fast," Hank said.
"So, a disease that attacks the brain, the heart, and the testicles," Kara considered.
"Doesn't seem very connected," Alex frowned. "He's sixty-five. Maybe multiple organs are failing independently."
"Acid reflex," Kara identified.
Kara entered Paul's room with Nia present and removed his air tube so he could talk. "The problem isn't your lungs but your heart," Kara said. "That cheese factory. What kind of cheese was there?"
"It was soft and cheap," Paul identified.
"Taste like crap?" Kara pressed.
"Yeah," Paul nodded.
"You got food poisoning via bacteria," Kara confirmed.
"How is that possible? No one else at the cheese factory got sick," Paul said confused.
"The antacids you had been taking allowed the bacteria in the cheese to thrive throughout your digestive tract," Kara informed him.
Kelly entered Alex's office looking distressed. "I wasn't imagining anything. M'gann looked like she had a weird-ass alien disease and Nia was asking me to touch her breasts!" Kelly said loudly.
"Patients and staff can hear you," Alex reminded her.
"I don't care!" Kelly told her off.
"And you just left them in the store?" Alex asked unimpressed.
"Yes!" Kelly exclaimed.
"Listen to me. M'gann is a shape-shifter and Nia can just be as weird as the rest of them. They were probably just fucking with you," Alex said calmly. "More importantly, what the fuck did you do to your hair?"
"You don't like it?" Kelly assumed.
"It's just radical," Alex backtracked.
"It's the natural hairstyle of my people," Kelly said defensively.
"Okay, sure, whatever," Alex rolled her eyes. "What did you eat and drink before this happened?"
"We had a glass of wine," Kelly recalled.
"There you go. You got drugged," Alex said simply.
"Our friends drugged me?" Kelly asked outraged.
"It happens all the time," Alex said nonchalantly.
"No, no, no," Kelly rebuked her. "This isn't about the wine, or my hair, or anything like that. M'gann is either sick in body or in the head after what I saw."
"I'll have Hank look into it," Alex said knowing full well she would be mocked for doing so.
"I hardly see you anymore, babe. I almost look forward to seeing your asshole father come to visit," Kelly said resentfully.
"Look, Kelly, you need to get your shit together. I'm not some confused boyfriend that will kowtow to your nonsense because he doesn't know any better. I do know better. I know what you're capable of and what you can handle because we're both women. If I can handle this job and this hectic schedule, you can handle being idle in the apartment," Alex told her off.
"It's not about the apartment," Kelly argued. "You know about James and Lena?"
"What about them?" Alex asked impatiently.
"They're trying for a baby. What if my own brother ends up having kids before me?" Kelly asked self-absorbed. "It's like a test. One big test."
"When did you say you were shopping with Nia?" Alex questioned.
"This morning to around noon," Kelly recalled.
"Kelly, Nia's been here at the hospital this entire time. Her father is sick and she's been at his side all morning," Alex said seriously.
Kelly gave Alex a haunted look. "And last time I checked, M'gann went back to Mars," Alex added. Kelly backed away from Alex completely spooked and sat in her chair silently.
Alex gave her a concerned look and went over to her as Kelly began to cry. "I don't know what to think," Kelly said bewildered.
"Let's make a baby," Alex said to make her feel better.
"Don't tease me like that," Kelly said tearfully.
"I wouldn't do that," Alex assured her.
The two began to kiss, touch each other, and take off their clothes. Unfortunately, Alex's office walls were glass so a number of male doctors decided to congregate upon noticing them make out. "Nice," they all said while smiling.
Alex then got a page. "I have to go," she said putting her doctor's coat back on and taking off.
Paul suddenly went into cardiac arrest in his room. Alex immediately was on the scene. "Paddles," she requested. She zapped Paul multiple times while giving him an injection through his IV. Nia watched horrified as her father was about to die. After several charges, Paul was finally brought back. Kara and Hank entered the room assuming the worst.
"I brought him back but there's a lot of damage," Alex said to them away from Nia outside the room.
"It was bacteria. We were just too late," Kara sighed.
"The heart muscle is half-dead. He'll be lucky to last the week," Hank added.
"So, all he needs now is a heart and he's out of here," Kara concluded.
"There's no way in hell the transplant committee is going to approve a heart transplant for a man his age," Alex doubted.
"Leave that to me," Kara told her and then walked off.
Alex then confronted Hank. "Where's M'gann?" she demanded.
"On Mars. Why?" Hank asked.
"Kelly says she was shopping with Nia and M'gann this morning," Alex said.
"That bitch better not be spending my money," Hank said irritably.
"Hank, I'm being serious," Alex said super-seriously.
Hank sighed. "White Martians," he guessed.
"Have you sensed their presence here?" Alex asked.
"Well, no. I don't know what's going on with Kelly," Hank admitted.
"Is she lying?" Alex asked.
Hank sensed into Kelly's mind and saw what she had experienced. "Nope."
Kara went before Brainiac 5 in his office. "He's a prime candidate for transplant," Kara lied.
"Continue," Brainiac 5 humored her.
"He doesn't smoke, drinks moderately, doesn't use drugs, no sign of lingering bacteria," Kara said.
"There is an inverse relationship between age and success rates," Brainiac 5 pointed out.
"He's in excellent health," Kara argued.
"If this patient were to survive this operation, he would last five, ten, at most, twenty years if he's very lucky," Brainiac 5 figured.
"So, old people are not as worth saving as young people?" Kara accused.
"Hearts are a scarce resource," Brainiac 5 reminded her.
"So, women live a lot older so they should be given preference while black men die a lot younger so the hell with them," Kara mocked.
"You hope to win me over by calling me a racist? An intriguing strategy," Brainiac 5 allowed.
"You're either a racist or a hypocrite...or both," Kara accused.
"Your patient had a life, a family. There are teenagers that haven't had the chance to live yet," Brainiac 5 pointed out.
"He's your girlfriend's father. If you don't give me this heart, I'll tell her it was your fault and she will break up with you. How do you intend to study her intimately then? Or, you can give me this heart and she'll be yours forever," Kara bargained.
"Alex has to do the procedure," Brainiac 5 relented.
"Well...shit," Kara realized.
During the surgical procedure, Alex opened Paul's chest and placed the donor heart inside while Kara and Nia watched from upstairs. "Paddles," Alex ordered once everything had been connected. After a few shocks, the donor's heart started pumping. "Take him off bypass," Alex ordered.
After the procedure, Nia and Maeve were at Paul's bedside. Paul awoke to find them both looking down at him. "Maeve?" he wondered.
"Nia called me," Maeve explained.
That night, Eliza arrived at Alex's apartment. Jeremiah decided to stay the night in a hotel and visit Alex alone on his own terms. Alex and Kelly greeted Eliza as she exited her cab and entered the lobby. "Welcome to Babylon, mom," Alex mocked.
"Speak of the devil," John interrupted upon seeing them. With him were two high-class prostitutes. "This your mother?"
"Yes," Alex replied.
"John Milton, it's a pleasure to meet you," John introduced himself.
"How do you do?" Eliza said politely.
"Kelly, you're looking lovely and radical," John complimented.
"Thanks," Kelly said awkwardly
The six of them entered the elevator where John entered the appropriate floor numbers. "Thanks for the champagne, John," Alex said gratefully.
"Oh, you're very welcome, Alex," he replied. "This isn't your first time to Metropolis, is it?" he asked Eliza.
"Oh, I've been here many times but only when the world is about to end," Eliza smiled.
John laughed with her. "You've done a hell of a job raising Alex up. And I'm sure it wasn't easy."
"The other one was tougher," Eliza said dryly.
John chuckled at that. The elevator doors then opened letting Eliza, Alex, and Kelly out. "Alex, hang on. How's Metropolis General? Everything alright?" John asked.
"That's a long conversation," Alex evaded.
"Want to come up and tell me?" John offered.
"Now?" Alex wondered as the two prostitutes began to make out.
Kelly gave Alex an impatient WTF look. "Let's talk tomorrow," Alex suggested.
"You sure?" John tempted as the prostitutes continued to make out with each other.
"Yeah," Alex concluded and entered her apartment.
"What the fuck was that?" Kelly asked incredulously.
"He's a man of interesting taste," Alex said embarrassed.
"I bet he can give you any prostitute you want," Kelly said scornfully.
"That's ridiculous," Alex scolded.
"Yeah, right? I'm going to bed," Kelly doubted. "Eliza, goodnight."
"Goodnight," Eliza said, worried for her.
"So, that was your boss?" Eliza assumed.
"Yeah. I don't know what he was thinking introducing himself like that with two prostitutes in his arms," Alex said scornfully.
"Alex...what prostitutes?" Eliza asked confused.
