The last couple of weeks have been some of the best of my time in this game. maybe even in my entire life. As soon as she said yes we went into home-making mode and thank god she was there for that. I can confidently say that I am horrible at knowing what looks good with what and what should go where. I stand in front of the door surveying the room in front of me that has just been furnished. I smile. "I think it looks good."

She smiles at me. "Thank you. I wasn't entirely sure about this setup."

I place my hands on her shoulders. "A home with you in it is all I need."

She leans in and places a small kiss on my lips. "I feel the same way. Although, I would like our home to at least look nice."

I chuckle and move to the kitchen. "What would you like for dinner?"

She follows me, "I'm thinking soup. but I'll cook. what is your cooking skill?"

I take a look "Um...12"

She looks at me and laughs.

I look down. "I never thought to level it up since I've been on my own for so long. I just survived on tavern food. And after that, HQ cafe food."

She smiles at me. "I'll cook. you go and answer the door."

The doorbell rings and I look at her. "That's just spooky."

I go to answer the door and I see Asuna standing there. "Hey, Smitt!"

I pull her into a hug. "Nice to see you, lieutenant commander." She nods and I lead her into the living room.

We use the night to hang out and talk about some things about guild business. Before it gets too late, Asuna takes her leave giving us both hugs before letting herself out.

Amara and I go up to our bedroom. I sit on the bed while she leans against the headboard. She speaks up, "Have you thought any more about the promotion?"

I nod, "Yeah, I don't know. I appreciate the thought. But I don't know if I'll be good enough for the role."

She comes over in front of me. "What level are you at now? Show me." I open my status menu and I turn the window around to show her. "Level 66. you were always better at this game than either of us." I flinch at the unsaid mention of V0ltec and she moves down to keep eye contact with me. "You are among the strongest players in this world. You more than have the skill to do the job. The only question you need to ask yourself is this. What do you want?"

I look up at her and smile. I lean in and kiss her hard on the lips. "You are...perfect." I go to sleep that night knowing that exactly what I want.

I stand before Commander Heathcliff and the rest of the Defense Council. "SMii7y. do you have an answer to my offer of promotion?"

I nod. "My answer is yes."

He smiles, "Then it will be so. You will act as my bodyguard when you are not on assignments given to you by me and only me. Congratulations Lieutenant Commander."

I nod and give a small bow. "Thank you, Commander."

He nods and motions for me to take my place at his side. I stand at his side with my sword in its sheath on the ground with my hands holding it up.

The next couple of weeks pass by and nothing much happens. until one day. I hear a commotion outside the door leading into the Council chambers. I ready my sword without taking it out of the sheath.

Both doors swing open. someone comes in. He is a tall man wearing a dark blue cloak with golden accents. He keeps his hood up as he walks toward the Council table shaking off any guard that tries to stop him. He stops in front of where I'm standing across the table. He takes his hood off and places his hands on the table. Now that I get a closer look at him, I see that he has a saber with a golden hilt and a wide handguard.

Heathcliff stands up and speaks. "Who the hell, may I ask, are you?"

Without looking away from me, the stranger speaks. "I have come to defeat you."

someone comes into the room and calls out. "I present, Danter. One of our newest recruits."

I stand up and lean in, never breaking eye contact with Danter. "Alright pissant. I accept your challenge."

Heathcliff nods and says, "Give us a day to get the word out. I feel like this is gonna be a good one."

Danter and I keep eye contact for a while before he nods and takes his leave.
