So, for this chapter, I am using the suggestion of Brother Grimace that someone talk to Molly about understanding that she's not the main adult figure in Harry's life and it's not up to her to decide what's best for him.
It was the night Harry Potter had first arrived at Number Twelve Grimmald Place and the teenagers were all in bed.
So too, were most of the adults.
Remus Lupin and Molly Weasley were the last two people still sitting at the meeting table.
"Molly," said Remus clearly, "We need to talk,"
"You need to talk with me one on one?" Molly asked Remus curiously.
"Well, someone does," said Remus matter of factly.
"What's going on then?" asked Molly impatiently.
"Well," said Remus in a businesslike voice, "Your attitude and behavior need some serious adjustments."
Molly looked shocked.
"Tonight," said Remus disapprovingly, "Your telling Sirius it had been difficult for to look after Harry while he'd been locked up in Azkaban was extremely insensitive and a low blow. You KNOW that Sirius was falsely imprisoned for crimes he didn't commit.'
"Well," protested Molly, "Sirius was acting irresponsibly. He doesn't seem to grasp that HARRY IS NOT A FUCKING ADULT!"
"Molly," said Remus in a crystal-clear voice, "It's not up to you to decide what's best for Harry. You are neither his mother nor his teacher nor his guardian nor his headmistress nor a person in a position of authority over Harry. "
"But, " said Molly flatly, "Sirius isn't doing his best to protect Harry-"
"Molly," said Remus in a sharper voice, "Harry is Sirius's ward. Sirius is his guardian and his godfather. If, in Sirius's judgement, he feels it best for Harry to have more information, then that is his decision. James and Lily selected Sirius as Harry's godfather. James and Lily trusted Sirius with Harry's well-being. If Sirius has come to the conclusion that Harry be privy to more information, then that HIS eight as Harry's godfather and guardian to make that decision. Mind you, no one, not even Sirius, suggested that Harry should be inducted into the Order of the Phoenix or be allowed to read every classified document in the Department of Mysteries. If Sirius feels it appropriate to give Harry information, then that's his call as godfather. Sirius is in fact that Harry is not a child. "
"Everyone wants Harry to grow up too fast, " whined Molly. "Does no one ever worry about the well-being of children?"
"Molly," said Remus in his most serious voice yet, "Harry is grown up and mature beyond his years because his life experiences have forced him to be. And to be blunt about it, Lord Voldemort's return has taken away any innocence we have had anyway."
"I'm not saying these are innocent times, " clarified Molly, "But you don't seem to give a damn about children being exposed to either danger or heavy topics."
"Danger and heavy topics are the reality of present times no matter how much we may hate it," said Lupin firmly, "The reality is this, people we know are going to suffer over the next few years and some will tragically expire before it's their time. That's the reality of war, Molly. At the end of the day, there can be no triumph without loss, there can be no victory without suffering, and there can be no freedom without sacrifice."
Molly sat frozen still, not quite knowing how to respond.
"You know," continued Lupin, "If Sirius didn't want Harry to know anything at all about the war, the Order of the Phoenix, or what Voldemort is up and wanted Harry to only focus on his continuing education, it would be Sirius's choice for Harry not to be given that information. I would disagree with Sirius if he had made that decision, but it would have been his decision, and his rightful decision."
"You agree with Sirius that Harry should be given as much information as he's been given?" Molly asked Remus uncertainly.
"I do, " admitted Lupin, "But if he had gone the other way, I'd have accepted that as his decision. The real problem isn't that Sirius thinks Harry is his son, it's that you can't accept that he's not your son. It's not your place to go all mama bear protective mode on Harry. "
Molly sat silently, seemingly thinking over everything Remus was telling her but not saying anything.
"What it comes down to, " said Remus finally, "Is that you need to understand when it's not your place to make a decision.
"Well, " said Molly slowly, "I don't like how Sirius handled the situation."
"You don't have to like or agree with it, " said Remus briskly, "You just need to respect that sometimes things aren't your decision. And your insult towards Sirius about not being there for Harry because he was locked up in Azkaban was such a low blow that I lost of respect for you tonight, respect you will have to earn back."
"Well, " said Molly in a defeated voice, "I've lost this battle."
Molly left for bed.
Remus wasn't sure if he had gotten through to her at all, but he went to bed feeling a little more peaceful knowing he had tried.
But if Molly didn't have an attitude adjustment, she was going to drive people away.
