Journey Alone
Gav woke up with a splitting headache to see the others around him and Jania pressing a wet cloth to the bump that was steadily growing bigger with every second that went past.
"Gav, what happened?" Raven asked, "Where's Daly gone?"
Gav groaned and tried to sit up but was only pushed gently back down by Jania who shook her head, "Stay," she ordered.
"A man ambushed me where I was and then dragged me here to where another man was standing with a blaster pointing at Daly," Gav said, "They were going to kill me but Daly promised that he would go with them willingly and something about a bounty his sister has on him."
Everyone froze in shock and the first person to react was Raven, "Well we better go get him then," he said as he was about to walk off into the trees.
"No!" Gav yelled, "We can't, they'll kill Daly if we go after them."
Everyone froze from the shock and then everyone turned around to see Ashlyn bolt off into the trees in the direction of Daly's Force signature. Raven and Kai followed to try and stop her before she got to the location and cause their friend's death.
"Ash!" Raven yelled as he lost sight of her. Both Padawans had forgotten how fast she could be but neither of them thought to look up into the trees.
"Ash! They'll kill Daly if you try to rescue him!" Kai yelled into the forest and then he spotted movement and ran towards it. He found Raven trying to keep Ashlyn pinned to the trunk of a tree with a certain amount of difficulty.
"Ash, there is nothing we can do for now," Raven said sternly as he forced his own pain into the very back of his head so he could focus solely on trying to calm Ashlyn down.
"No, I'm not going to let them take him to Jaira, she'll kill him," Ashlyn growled as she fought back against Raven's strength.
"No Ash, we can't let you do this," Raven grunted, "There will be other opportunities to rescue him but this is not what Daly wants you to do," he added as he continued to try and put sense back in her head.
"Raven please, I can't lose him," Ashlyn pleaded as a few tears rolled down her cheeks.
"And neither can I but this is not the time or place to do a rescue mission, we need a plan not just run into it with nothing," Raven pointed out but Ashlyn didn't want to hear any of it.
Kai approached the two of them and added gently, "Ash, Daly doesn't want you or any of us to get hurt. Raven is right, we can't go into something like this blind."
Raven released Ashlyn from the tree and Kai tackled her as she tried to run off in a second desperate attempt to get away from the two of them.
It took another few minutes for Ashlyn to calm down and once she was relaxed Kai released his grip and they all headed back to their camp to find the others already there.
"We should contact the Council," Stret said as he started up the holo terminal of the Twilight that they had been using. It didn't take long for the Jedi Council, who were obviously in session, to answer. As soon as Anakin saw the holo-image of his Padawan appear he knew something was wrong and he could sense it through the bond they shared.
"Padawans, what has happened?" Master Windu asked with a slightly furrowed brow.
"We were ambushed by Bounty Hunters who are working for Jaira and they took Daly," Raven revealed solemnly, "We are formulating a plan to go after them."
Before the Padawan even finished Master Windu interrupted him, "No, you will all return to Coruscant immediately."
"But Masters-," Kai interjected.
"Clouded by the Dark Side of the Force Padawan Solak's future is," Master Yoda said gravely.
"Of course Masters, we are on our way," Stret acknowledged slightly disappointed and annoyed at the order but knew the consequences if it was not followed.
The connection was cut off then and Ashlyn stalked off in the direction of the Starfighters.
"I don't think we should leave Ash alone for now, she could end up doing something reckless," Jania suggested.
"I'll do it, she trusts me and we've been friends since before we could walk," Kai volunteered as he stood up and followed his friend.
Ashlyn was packing her stuff up into the small cargo compartment of the Starfighter and at first, Kai thought she wanted to get back to Coruscant without delay until he heard what she said the astromech droid.
"Get the scanners ready R2," Ashlyn ordered softly, R2 whistled in reply and started following her order immediately.
"Ash, what are you doing?" Kai asked in concern.
"I am going to do whatever it takes to get Daly back," Ashlyn said, "And no one is going to stop me," she warned.
Kai sighed, "You're not thinking clearly, didn't you hear what Master Yoda just said?" he demanded.
"Yes, and do you know how many times I have heard him say that about all sorts of things, all of which I have followed my instincts and have solved myself," Ashlyn retorted.
"Ash, we've been friends as far back as I can remember and you need to trust me," Kai begged desperately trying to get through to her, "All you are going to achieve is getting yourself and Daly killed."
"Kai, this is not as simple as you are all making it out to be, I am not blinded by my attachment to Daly. I literally can't live without him, our futures and destinies are tied together in an unbreakable knot and without him, the Jedi Order will cease to exist when the galaxy needs it the most," Ashlyn said trying to explain. Kai stood there quietly watching her for a few moments unsure of whether to stop her or let her go off on her own.
"At least let one of us come with you," Kai suggested desperately.
Ashlyn looked at him for a few moments as she thought about the proposal and then shook her head slowly, "I'm sorry but this is something I have to do on my own."
Then she jumped into the Starfighter and started up the engines before taking off into the sky above the forest. At the sound of the fighter, everyone else came running into the clearing and Raven was the first to ask the question that had all popped into their heads.
"Why didn't you stop her?" he demanded accusingly at Kai.
"There was nothing I could do, that none of us could have done to stop her," Kai stated simply.
Raven came to stand in front of Kai head-on, "She is going to get herself killed."
Jania and Mia approached the two Padawans but the Agent got to them first, managing to push them away from each other.
"You don't think I already know that? You don't think I tried to talk her out of leaving?" Kai growled, "Well I did try and I can guarantee that you wouldn't have succeeded either," he added.
"Enough both of you," Mia ordered.
