Sorry for not updaying yesterday. I was very busy and I didn't have time. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this chapter-it's shorter, then after this there's sort of an interlude chapter before the plotline for the next book will start- I'm not fully decided yet but I will probably do it as a separate fic 'cause otherwise I see this becoming insanely long.

Ryan Fowler: Yeah, Percy is very young but she does not play. Now imagine older Percy getting pissed off at one of the gods and making threats and their all shocked like 'How dare you speak to me like that' and Percy just looking at them like 'Bitch please I told the Pharaoh of the Egyptian gods I'd chop off his arms and shove 'em up his ass if he pissed me off, you think you're special?'
Jubby1905: Yeah that's pretty accurate honestly. He's hopeless and we love that about him.
Old Bert: Thank you!
Guest: Horus was talking about Demigods, and there's not gonna be a minific- I have one chapter between this and the start of the next and a minific for one chapter just makes no sense to me so it'll be tagged onto the end of this. And I can't say too much about Percy meeting Hades 'cause spoilers.

The five magicians were sat outside making the most of their breakfast when they were joined by Amos- and Percy's eyes widened in surprise when he did- oh he sometimes wandered out aimlessly and sat with them in silence- but he'd changed clothes- he wore a crisp new chocolate-colored suit with matching coat and fedora. His shoes were shined, his round glasses polished, his hair freshly braided with amber beads.

"What?" he demanded when he noticed them all staring- and the three Kane children exchanged looks before chorusing.

"Nothing."

And Sally gave Amos a warm smile as she stood up, "It's good to see you up and about- I'll go get another plate if you want."

"It's fine, but thank you for offering Sally." Amos raised a hand slightly and shook his head as he sat down at the table with them, flicking his fingers- and a coffee magically filled one of the cups- and Percy blinked. He hadn't used magic since- well since Set.

There was a somewhat awkward silence as they all went back to eating after a moment before Amos spoke again. "I thought I'd go away for a while. To the First Nome."

"Is that a good idea?" Carter frowned. "I mean- after what happened."

Amos sipped at his coffee before he spoke again, staring across the river. "They have the best magic healers there. I mean no disrespect to you Sally but-"

"It's fine." Sally shook her head, "I started learning late. I can take care of the kids injuries most of the time but I'm not- well I know I'm not as skilled as some of the other magicians there. But is it safe?"

"They will not turn away a petitioner seeking aid. Not even me. I think... I think I should try." his voice was fragile- like it would crack apart any moment. It was the most he'd spoken in weeks.

"He's right." Zia spoke up after a moment. "No matter what was done before, or what we're doing he should be perfectly safe in the First Nome under the care of the healers."

"Well." Sadie took a deep breath, "I think it's a brilliant idea then. We'll watch the place for you-"

"I can look after the kids." Sally spoke up, "We'll make sure everything's taken care of."

"I'll feel Philip." Percy piped up quickly. And Amos managed a faint smile at that.

"That's good. I may be gone for a while. This place is your home now as much as mine." he hesitated, as if choosing his next words very carefully. "And I think, perhaps, you should start recruiting. There are many children around the world with the blood of the pharaohs. Most do not know what they are. What you two said in Washington—about rediscovering the path of the gods—it may be our only chance."

Sadie got up and kissed Amos on the forehead. "Leave it to us, Uncle. I've got a plan."

"Why am I not comforted." Carter grinned slightly.

"Because both of your sisters plans often end up with things being blown up." Zia remarked.

"How was I to know that that spell would blow up the toilet- I was trying to fix it." Percy pouted, "You're just super mean to me."

"Very comforting." Amos let out a very faint laugh as he shook his head, "I see that I'm leaving things in very capable hands." then he was standing, squeezing Sadie's hand and ruffling Carter's hair before pausing when he reached Percy, hesitating before laying a hand on her shoulder and squeezing gently.
Then he moved in side and Percy ducked her head slightly.

"He feels guilty." that came from Sadie. "He doesn't love us more he just feels more guilty about you is all-"

"But-" Set tried to drug you and he nearly choked you out." Carter piped up. "Sadie's right." and he slung an arm over Percy's shoulder, tugging her into his side.

"Well." Sally let out a breath, "It won't be easy if you're recruiting. This place is going to get pretty busy isn't it?"

"We don't have much choice." Carter shook his head, "Not if we want to fight Apophis."

"We'll manage." Zia spoke up, "I have no doubt about that. You Kanes seem to always find a way."

"Yeah, We do don't we." Sadie snorted, "We went from knowing nothing to saving the world in less than a week-"

"Speak for yourself." Percy poked her tongue out, "I'm like, a genius you losers."

"Sure you are." Sadie reached over and flicked Percy's ear- which made Percy very maturely grab a slice of bacon and flick it at Sadie.

"Oh this will be fun." Sally shook her head and laughed as she leaned over the table to snatch away the flood so that it couldn't erupt into a full on food fight.
"I don't know what I'll do with you kids- it's going to be hard work."

"Sounds like you might need some help." and the three Kane children turned almost at exactly the same time- and Percy let out a joy filled cheer as she leapt to her feet and darted towards the woman leaning against the door, the familiar woman in her leopard-spotted jumpsuit.

"BAST!"

"There's my kittens." Bast caught Percy when she reached her, laughing as she wrapped an arm around the youngest Kane.

"You're really here." Sadie looked kind of like she wanted to cry, Percy couldn't blame her for that. "Of course I am." and then Sadie and Carter were rushing forward too- and Bast was hugging all three of them.

"It'll be good to have a helping hand." Sally spoke up, "I get the feeling that it's going to be hard work from here on out."

"It'll be a pleasure to help you." Bast gave Sally a sharp grin, "I can't wait to get to know the woman who helped raise two of my kittens."

"I'm sure it'll be a pleasure." Sally smiled warmly.

"Looks like things are starting to go our way. Finally." Carter grinned as he glanced around at them- and Percy had to admit, that he wasn't wrong.
Bast slipped into their usual routine was remarkable ease.

Sadie called the Faust's two days later and informed them that she was staying in Brooklyn, Carter had been shocked when she'd told him that-he, much like Percy had at first, had assumed that Sadie would want to go home to England.

And the call to the Faust's had been pretty reassuring on the legal side of things- because though the police had been very interested at first in what had happened at the museum they no longer were. They'd decided it was some sort of gas explosion- an accident, a tragic one but an accident, and the Rosetta stone had turned un-damaged. Probably because of the House of Life intervening- Percy was kind of relieved about that- she knew that their dad would have felt guilty about destroying such a priceless artefact.

And, a week after Bast's return Carter and Sadie headed out to some school that Sadie had seen in a dream, they had a plan after all- and hopefully soon enough Brooklyn House would gain new members.
