Chapter 3 -
Waking up with pain in his neck and back was one thing, another thing was walking upstairs first thing morning and finding a monster corps in the living room. His first instinct was going back down the stairs, but his curiosity got the better of him and he instead went into analyses mode.
"It looks like a normal wolf but instead of ears on the top of his head it also has antlers like a deer, Its fur is a light green-," At that moment the sun shined true the window of the house and with it, "That looks like it changes to a normal grey color when the sun is exposed to it," Izuku proceeded to open its jaw, "Its teeth are large and sharp but not as large or sharp as I expected they would be," He then found himself reaching between its jaws and taking a bit of what he assumed to be its food, "It looks like instead of eating meat it primarily eats plants and the like, otherwise it could be a lack of food but I think my later analyses of it eating plants might be correct with the way it has shorter and duller teeth than normal," That didn't mean it couldn't kill you with a few good bites though….
Taking a breath after that whole spiel he then continued to its legs, "They look like they are primarily made to run fast and long likely because it had to run away from other more dangerous monsters," Now that he looked at the wolf again, its build was indeed made to run. Before he got too lost in his analyses the system opened in front of him with a 'ping!'.
Skill!
A skill has been created because of your actions!
Observe – LVL 1 - Passive
This skill tells the max HP, MP, and information. Focus on any given target and say 'Observe'!
You can also say it inside your head!
(Dismiss)
"The system wasn't lying when it told me it would make skills by just going through my daily life huh," He wasn't complaining though, this was extremely helpful in any given situation, he would know exactly how powerful an enemy would be by just saying observe! He didn't even have to be in its way to know, the information bit would probably even give him the exact rank the monster was!
He needed to test this right now! But on what should he try it out on…. O! He could use it on the letter that came with the backpack! He got his backpack out of the inventory and opened it up to…. No letter? Oh, right he totally forgot that it disintegrated as soon as he was done reading it.
What to use it on then? He didn't want to use it his first time on something regular like a houseplant. He saw the corpse of the monster again and almost facepalmed at how it was staring him in the face all this time. He sat on the floor in front of it and then with a deep sigh said "Observe," I know I could say it inside of my head, but it just sounds cool to say it out loud, so sue me! with a small grin on his face, the new skill did its job.
Antler wolf – LVL10
HP: 1200 MP: 100 Rank: E
This monster is passive, if you don't threaten it, it won't attack you! Primarily eats plants but can eat meat when offered. This monster is low in the food chain, and because its meat is so delicious it gets hunted a lot by other stronger monsters! It also has the ability to camouflage into its surroundings and runs quite fast and long. A good nose and better runners can still find it though!
Its fur might be good to get for crafting!
(Dismiss)
"So I was right about it likely being a semi-vegetarian!" Then he saw some similarities between the Antler wolf and him. Both were different than their kind and both were bullied/hunted for it. Both were good at running away and ironically they had both green fur/hair. Both were quite good at camouflaging into their surroundings as well.
There was one thing different between the two of them though, well actually 2… 3… 4… "Look my point is that while I'm going to live and become strong enough to stand up for myself, they will get hunted unless they somehow evolve and get more offensive moves because of it!"
It looked like its fur could be used for crafting as well,he hadn't seen any crafting options in his menu though, maybe it was something he still had to unlock? Well either way he was just going to keep its corps in his inventory for now and hopefully get the courage to skin it, he wasn't looking forward to it.
After stuffing the corps into his inventory he went back downstairs to eat in peace, well as much peace one can get with a blood-stained futon next to you anyway. he then finally noticed some other notifications from his system. It told him he had some new quests and had earned 100 XP just by sleeping, imagine getting rewarded for sleeping! He would've gone to sleep a lot earlier in his world if you got a reward for it! Going to his quest menu he read over the new quests.

Slaying his first monster was going to be an adventure in and of itself, but traveling to all countries in the world was just crazy! How was he even coming off the Island called Japan?! Was he going to need to learn how to fly a plane, or was he going to swim until he found land, maybe he could find a boat? Were there even planes or boats anymore?! Maybe he could get a skill to fly? Maybe there was magic that could get him to fly? He didn't even know if such magic existed! No, he didn't know that but he could bet on it that there was some kind of magic that could get him to fly! Well, he had about a millennium to figure it out so he didn't need to worry so much about one quest.
The 'Take shelter!' quest was something he didn't even argue about because it was something he already planned to do, his back groaned in agreement. Accepting all quests, yes even 'The lost lands!' one, he then went to his status menu. He was going to need to decide on what he was going to spend his 120 stat points on.
First, he wanted to make sure he had enough health so that he didn't die on his first monster hunt session, but how much should he put into it? If he already got 100 stat points just by completing the tutorial quest how much would he get for the monster slayer quest? Finally deciding on how much to spend on the constitution stat he puts 25 points into it, which should be a 250 HP increase to his already 150 HP so he now has 400 HP, which leaves 95 points left for him to spend. Although maybe he should keep some for emergencies.
The next two stats he wanted to add points to are his strength and dexterity. Before he would put any points into them he wanted to test out his strength now and compare it to after he added the points. So walking outside, with caution, of course, he leaped over the hedge to the next-door house and found a nice tree he could try it out on. Taking a deep breath he wound up a good punch and BAM! "Ouch! That hurt like a but cheek on a stick!" He was just about to massage his fist In pain when it just disappeared like the pain wasn't even there to begin with, "So that's how the 'Gamers body' skill works I guess," That's pretty cool he thought.
With another 'Ping!' his system told him he had just lost 5 HP just by hitting a tree too hard. Deciding that was his cue he went back to the status menu and spend 30 points on his strength and dexterity stat each.
He immediately noticed something new the moment he put all those points into them, He was lighter for starters, it felt like he was floating above the ground but when he looked at his feet they were still on the ground just like a few seconds ago. The second thing was more like pressure building up in his fists, waiting to be unleashed upon the world and show its might, and against his better judgment and skill that made him think logically, it wasn't enough to go against his thirst for knowledge. And maybe because he was still a 10-year-old boy.
And then his body moved on its own and his fist was flying at the tree bark, -CRACK!- and right threw it. "Holy moly! That was so fast!" He looked at the new hole in the tree and thought if he really was that strong just because he put a 30 increase in his strength how much would 100 be or even more?!
He decided that he wanted to test his Dexterity by climbing on some of the houses that were close by, possibly to look for a lone target he could check the status of by using the 'Observe' skill. Turning away from the tree he took three steps away from it when he heard it, something was creaking. He was about to just speed walk it away when all of a sudden it got louder -CRRRRRCRACK, without looking he thrust out his hand somewhere behind his head and took hold of something heavy.
Turning around he saw what he had caught, it was the upper half of the tree he just punched that rested in the palm of his hand. "HOLY SHIT! DID I REALLY JUST CATCH THAT WITHOUT LOOKING?! Is this what the reaction time means in the dexterity list?!" Astonished by his catch he almost dropped the tree right on his head, but with a bit of trouble, he pushed it right back the other way. The thing was that he didn't feel tired because of it at all, it was more like there was this energy coursing through his body, maybe it was adrenaline?
Deciding that he still wanted to search for a target or at least scout out the neighborhood and get some information on the monsters here, he first climbed onto the house -which wasn't difficult at all he found out- and looked around from his perch on the roof. He didn't see anything out of the ordinary, well, except the empty and destroyed streets surrounding the house. So he climbed off the roof and began walking down the street.
It was really weird to see his own neighborhood like this, in that house, lived Ms. Kubota he would always help her in the yard whenever possible! The house across from her was once lived in by a classmate of him, well, a former classmate, he moved away when he was 8, he had such a cool quirk too! He could fly with his wings or he could if he didn't eat so much, his wings weren't strong enough for him to lift all that weight and he didn't mean that in a bad way! His grandpa was also a quirk Docter, although Izuku didn't really like him because he was always so cold with his deliveries, the doctor never said it outright but he made it pretty clear that he would never have a quirk.
Dispelling the sad thought from his mind, he quickly walked along almost turning a corner when he heard it, he quickly jumped back and behind a bush that was out of sight. "HIHAHIHA!" Izuku poked his head out of the bush and saw exactly what was making that sound.
It was standing over something -probably a prey it had just caught- and was eating into it with vigor, he could see blood splatter all over the pavement the more it ripped into its catch, and Izuku was happy it did because that meant that it was distracted and he could observe it without worry.
Its appearance was like a hyena, it was skinny as hell and he could see its ribs almost sticking out of its abdomen. There were thick hairs sticking out of its spine from the base of its ears all the way to its tail which almost looked cut off right at the middle or it just burned off. Now that he saw his ears they looked like the ears of a bat. Its behind legs were quite bulky, unlike its front legs, which were skinny. Its claws on the other hand were long and supersharp, displayed with the way it hacked into its food like it was water. Deciding that was enough of his own analyses of the monster he said "Observe," quietly of course! He didn't want to be its line of sight for too long so he ducked back into the bush and sat as he read.
Flerder Hound – LVL15
HP: 1500 MP: 100 Rank: B
The Flerder Hound is a monster with the characteristics of a bat, it cant see and makes the sound of laughing to get a sense of its surroundings. It is mostly skinny but watch out for its speed those hind legs aren't for nothing! How they hunt is by using ambush attacks and going after already wounded prey. Never turn away from one, their ears and nose are excellent and they are always aware of their surroundings!

Eyes widening from the last line he quickly turned back to blind eyes staring right through his soul with drool at its mouth, not 2 cm(1 inch) away from his face. For an agonizing minute, Izuku was stock still hoping, praying that it would go away. With a small laugh, the Flerder Hound turned away and went back to its prey, claws tapping on the concrete of the street. Izuku now noticed that its nose was crushed beyond recognition, the most likely reason that it hadn't just smelled him out.
Finally taking a deep breath -he hadn't even noticed that he had kept his breath for the whole encounter- he decided that this monster was too high a rank, for now, so he turned around to exit the bush from the other side CRACK, he looked down and found out that he had accidentally stepped on a stick. Crap. Suddenly or expectedly whatever one you preferred, he was dragged out of the bush by the back of his neck and it stung. Badly.
-25 HP
375/400 HP
25 damage?! He had to get out of the monster's grip right now! The first thing he tried was reaching out to its head but he couldn't reach far enough! SLASH! "AGH!" he cried out in pain which -thankfully- quickly faded.
-30 HP
345/400 HP
He tried to get a grip on the ground but they were moving too fast to get a proper one! He was beginning to panic- but then his mind calmed down and he could think rationally again. Okay, he had to use his brain here, what was a weakness he could use?
-30 HP
315/400 HP
Its ears! Because it had to adapt to only using its ears he could overwhelm them by making a loud noise? What did he use to make a loud noise? Could he use his strength to make a hard enough sound? Being able to punch a hole in a tree was impressive but that wasn't the only application of strength, he could clap his hand together with all his strength and make a super loud noise! One thing was that he didn't know if he had enough strength to damage the Flerder Hound, he didn't just want it to be able to recover in a few seconds, he wanted to crush its ears with the sound.
-30 HP
285/400 HP
So he had to add more points to his strength, luckily he still had 35 points left so he quickly went to his status menu and dropped 30 into his strength( -30 HP 255/400 ) and 5 into his constitution, his health only went 50 HP up by that but he could use whatever it gave him. Then the hound slashed across his back again. SLASH, "ARGH!".
-75 HP
230/400 HP
He ignored the pain as much as he could. He knew that this might give him some recoil so he prepared himself and spread his hands as far away from each other as he could and then he CLAPPED!
-210 HP
20/400 HP
It was quiet for a moment before the Flerder Hound began crying in anguish, "HIJIHIJIHIJI!". Izuku was still in shock of being so close to death, but he shook himself out of it quickly because the Flerder Hound was swiping around itself, trying to hit its target with no luck but he didn't want to risk it. So this is a B-rank monster? Scary! He noticed that he was tired too and he couldn't get hit so how was he going to kill the monster without getting close?
He found a poll not far from him and grabbed it, maybe he could throw it at the Flerder Hound and knock it out? Taking aim -he really was getting tired- he noticed that his vision sharpened immediately -probably because of his dexterity- and threw it with all his strength but it seemed like he wasn't the best thrower right now and it pierced its stomach instead. "Crap," now he had to get in close anyway, luckily the Flerder Hound was starting to calm down, and was that acceptance in its eyes?
Izuku was beginning to feel sad for the Flerder Hound, it was probably in so much pain because of his bad throw. NO! It was trying to kill him too, so he shouldn't feel guilty, he was beginning to realize that he was going to need to kill or be killed in this new world but maybe it was always like this, to begin with.
Izuku was beginning to feel more and more inhuman the longer his thought went on so he stopped. "I am sorry it had to be this way, farewell and may you rest in peace." His final piece said to the Flerder hound -he realized later that it couldn't even hear him- he pulled his leg up and brought his feet down on its head, which caved in immediately, he also realized that he was crying.
So I'm still human in some ways he thought to himself with a sad smile.
