Chapter 37
After Ash and Lillie place the second row of Charjabug with the panels, Sophocles says, "Now we're ready to power up the Pinger!"
As he presses the button, the machine is shaking as Sophocles says, "It's actually working... The Pinger is getting a good dose of power! Yes! We're getting much more power than on our last try!"
But the power goes off once again as they hear the voice again, "IN ORDER TO OPEN THE DOOR, PLEASE RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING AUDIO QUIZ. YOU HEAR THIS SOUND WHEN YOU GET WHAT?"
They hear the sound and Ash says, "Is it the Rotom Dex?"
"CORRECT! OPENING DOOR..." Just then, an Electabuzz and a Charjabug appear at the door as Sophocles says, "Whoa! As soon as the door opened, a Pokémon came through! This one's up to you, too, Ash, Lillie!"
Ash and Lillie continue to battle the Pokemon using Magmar and Krookodile again, and they manage to defeat both Pokemon.
"I knew you could do it." Sophocles says as the door closes and the lights go back. "And then, of course, the door goes and shuts again!"
"What's with this door?" Lillie mutters.
"Fool me once, shame on the door. Fool me twice, shame on the security system. Fool me thrice, shame on me, I guess... " Sophocles says.
"It is not a time for jokes." Ash says.
"But here it comes! We're picking up traces of the Totem Pokemon extremely close by!" Sophocles says as he looks at the machine.
"And those Pokemon...It seems like the more power we pump into the Pinger, the bigger Pokémon it attracts. This is amazing, Soffy! If that's the case, let's give it some more power! That'll definitely summon the Totem Pokémon!"
"The more Charjabug we connect in a direct line, the greater the electrical current that is generated, and the longer it flows..." Sophocles says. "So that means-"
He rushes to put the third row of Charjabug on the machine, and Ash and Lillie know what is going on. They decide to place the final Charjabug in the correct order.
"OK, Ash, Lillie... The Charjabug are all connected. Everything should be good now. Now we're ready to connect the Roller with the Pinger!" Sophocle says as he tries to power up the machine, but the machine is now fully shaking as Ash and Lillie have a bad feeling about this.
"Uh, the cables are looking a little unstable... I hope it doesn't cause a problem..." Sophocles says.
"Is it just me, or I think that machine is about to get exploded!" Ash says.
"Oh no... The Charjabug will get blasted with electricity if we don't do something!" Sophocles says. "Ash, Lillie! Do the final Security Quiz!"
"THIS IS THE FINAL SECURITY QUESTION. IN ORDER TO OPEN THE DOOR, PLEASE RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING AUDIO QUIZ. WHAT APPEARS WHEN YOU HEAR THE FOLLOWING MUSIC?"
Ash and Lillie are confused as they don't know what the sound is, and Sophocles says, "Huh, this sound... This presence I sense..."
"Watch out!" Molayne yells as the machine is charging at the Charjabug, but Togedemaru jumps in and stops the attack.
"T-Togemaru! What are you doing?! Are you trying to save everyone?!" Sophocles asks.
"Togedemaru's Ability is Lightning Rod. It can attract electricity to itself. But...the current is too strong! There's no way Togedemaru's electric sacs can handle all of it!" Molayne says.
"Togemaru! Hang in there!" Sophocles says. "Agh! I-I-I gotta do something!"
Ash says, "The sound is the Totem Pokemon! Whoever it is, please come and help us out!"
"CORRECT! OPENING DOOR..." Just then, the door opens, and then a giant Togedemaru rolls into the machine and absorbs the machines' electricity, along with a Vikavolt who is trying to calm the machine down.
"There they are! The Totem Pokémon! This is your time to shine, Ash! Lillie!" Sophocles yells.
"A Totem Togedemaru...and what is that?" Ash asks.
"Leave it to me. Vikavolt, the Stag Beetle Pokémon. A Bug and Electric type. Vikavolt flies around, waiting to attack. With its large jaws, it fires gathered electrical energy at its opponent. Togedemaru, the Roly-Poly Pokémon. An Electric and Steel type. Its ability to generate electricity is weak, but its long needle acts as a lightning rod, so it can attract lightning and store the electricity. When happy, it forms a ball and rolls around. But once it starts rolling, it can't control itself."
"So we have to defeat them." Lillie says as she goes with Salazzle, while Ash goes for Dartrix to battle.
Both of their auras are flaring as they also call a Charjabug and a Dedenne for help, making it a four-on-four battle.
"Magmar, use Flamethrower, Dartrix! Go for Pluck!" Ash yells.
Both Pokemon attack the Charjabug and then Vikavolt, but they manage to get a hold on it and go for Discharge, which causes a lot of damage to them.
"Salazzle! Sludge Bomb at Dedenne! Krookodile! Dig!" Lillie yells.
And Salazzle manages to hit Dedenne, Krookodile manages to hit Togedemaru, but it is groaning in pain.
"Damn it, its ability is Iron Barbs." Lillie says.
As for Ash, Vikavolt goes for Acrobatics and it hurts Dartrix a lot, Ash says, "Dartrix, I know you can do it, hang in there!"
Dartrix nods as it starts to glow, and it becomes shadowier and Ash says, "Rotom? What is that?"
"Decidueye, the Arrow Quill Pokémon. A Grass and Ghost type. Decidueye's aim is so good that when it fires its arrow quills, it can hit a pebble over a hundred yards away."
"You are now a Ghost Type...then let's try Spirit Shackle!" Ash says as the Pokemon shoots an arrow at the Charjabug, knocking it out, and at the same time, Magmar uses Inferno to defeat the Totem Vikavolt. As for Lillie, her Krookodile goes with Earthquake, knocking out both Dedenne and Togedemaru.
Thanks, Ash! Lillie!" Sophocles says. "Togemaru and company... They were saved by the Totem Pokémon."
"And nice work to you as well. Soffy. You helped Ash and Lillie here through their trials, and your experiment was a success!" Molayne says. "It seems that your Ping Totem Pokemon 2.0 uses too much electricity."
"I'm glad that it didn't get explode as Clemont's machines do..." Lillie sighs.
Both Vikavolt and Togedemaru are back to consciousness as they hand Ash and Lillie two Z Crystals. Ash and Lillie take the crystals and raise their hands to the air. "We get the Electrium Z!"
All of their Pokemon are cheering for them as well. Sophocles coughs and says, "You watching?"
He starts to do the dance, by swinging his arms and goes into a move. He sighs and turns away from them, "I was fine when the power was off. Geez... Now that you can see me, I feel all nervous... I'm not sure what to say. Thanks? Or, uh, congratulations? You passed my trial."
"Congratulations on clearing your trial! And you, Sophocles. You did well as captain." Molayne says.
"I was really nervous..." Sophocles says.
"Don't you worry. I'm sure that I made the right choice in naming you captain. Even if you are my cousin." Molayne says.
"So he was a new captain?" Ash asks.
"Usually it's the island kahuna who appoints the captains. But there are some, er, unusual circumstances here on Ula'ula." Molayne says.
"So somehow I ended up captain..." Sophocles mutters. "But you were really great, Ash and Lillie. In that case, how about I show you one of my inventions?"
Ash and Lillie are confused for a second, until they are blinded by a light and they find themselves in some sort of virtual world.
"Where are we?" Lillie asks.
"Ash, Lillie, Welcome to Festival Plaza! This is a secret place where you can come to play using communication features. There is some lottery shops, cafe, and even training spots for you to go."
Ash says, "So it is like Joint Avenue in Unova, but making a virtual world."
They walk around the plaza as they can do lotteries, bouncy houses, haunted houses, food stalls, goody shops, and other things they can do. They also meet a lot of virtual world people with some of them being actually people who are also using the feature.
"That was really fun." Ash says after getting back to the real world. "There sure are a lot of things we could do."
"I know. And I think having fun with you makes me remember some things as well." Lillie says with a smile as well.
"What do you remember?" Ash asks.
"Well, when we are looking at the clothes, I remember the Fashion Show that Valerie asks me to do. And I also got the outfit from her as well." Lillie says. "That outfit helps me win my first Showcase, right?"
"Of course." Ash says.
"And I also remember how I promised Delphox to become the best after changing her broken stick, and how I captured Eevee." Lillie smiles.
"Wow, you're really are remembering a lot of things right now." Ash says with a smile. "That is a good thing."
"Yeah, but I also remember some bad things as well." Lillie says, "Like how you try to jump into the volcano to save Talonflame."
"I'm sorry about that!" Ash winces a little.
"Relax, Ash. I can't stay mad at you." Lillie says.
Then they have decided to go back to Malie City for the next Island Festival, but Molayne stops them as he says, "If we're done here, Ash, Lillie...Could I ask you to do a favor for me? Professor Kukui forgot this."
He takes the Royal Mask's Mask to Ash and Lillie, who stare at the mask as Ash says, "Seriously? He tried to forget the mask and even though he tries really hard to keep his identity a secret?"
"He said he would be going back to Malie Garden. Could you take it to him?" Molayne asks.
"Sure." Lillie says.
"And Ash and Lillie. Maybe next time we can battle..." Sophocles adds.
"Of course." Ash says as they bid farewell to both Sophocles and Molayne as they climb down the mountain.
And here is the chapter. As you can see, Ash and Lillie defeat the Electric Type totems as they get the new Z Crystals. I hope you like this chapter and the next chapter will be the big bad boss of Team Skull's first appearance. Let's see how he is trying to destroy everything on his way.
