The homeless shelter was busy with people all around them. Rick had dropped off some of his clothes, bottles of water and some stuff for the children. He saw the children running up to him; they had dirt on their hands. But he don't mind them getting his pants dirt they were only children. He gives them each a chocolate bars; each of them smiled in thanks. He was very happy, he was doing a real good thing. He helped out with serving breakfast it was oatmeal, pancake, bacon and eggs. They could have water, tea, coffee or juice. He was asked to joined by children to come and eat with them. He sit with them watching as they ask him questions. He happily answered them; some the questions were about what his favorite games were. They asked him; if he had any children. Some about his writing career. But he had a really good time with them. He promised to come back visit them very soon.
Rick stopped at Remy got himself and Ashley some lunch, he had went to the diner where she worked at. It was her day off today. So, he was going to visit her; at her apartment instead with some food. He arrived at her place, he knocked three loud knocked on her door. She answers him in a pink robe and her hair wrap in a towel. She was shock to see him there. But both of them couldn't speak a word to each other. She had her robe tightly against the top of her chest. "Richard?! What are you doing here?" He was holding a bag of food and two milkshakes for him and her. "I was wondering, if you would like to have lunch together." He was holding up the food and drinks. She was staring at the food and shakes. "I hope there's a vanilla milkshake in their for me." She had on a huge smile. Rick had on a huge smile on his face. "Of course their a vanilla milkshake for you. I'm more of chocolate fan myself."
She gets dressed quickly, before letting him inside her shoe box apartment. He walked inside her small kitchen and dining room. He sets the food and drinks on the small table. He takes a sit across from her. He takes out from the bag two cheeseburgers, two fries and both of their milkshakes. She takes a bite of her cheeseburger; she groan at the taste of her cheeseburger. Rick had a huge smile on his face; he couldn't help but grin. "Like cheeseburger do you?" She stopped eating and was embarrassed right in front of him. "Don't look so embarrassed. I think it's very cute." She had a light smile on her face. "It's the first time in a long time. Since I had a really good cheeseburger in a long time." Rick was surprised, he was curious about that one. "Why has it been a long time for a good cheeseburger?" Ashley was looking down at the table. She wasn't sure, how to answer that. He puts his hand on top of her hand. "It's alright you don't have to tell me. If you don't want too."
Ashley takes a very long deep breath; she is taking a small bite of her fries. "I uses to have a short good childhood for a good time. My mom was four months pregnant with my little sister. My dad would always spend time with me and my mom." She had tears in her eyes; she was sobbing a little. "But one night my dad was acting weird. He was coming home late for the last three months. He had another woman with him. I guess my dad had been having an affair at his office with his assistant. She was pregnant around the same time as my mom. He told my mom to pack our things and get out of his house." He was shocked by that, how could a man tossed aside his wife who was pregnant and a small girl. He kisses both of her hands. "I'm very sorry that happen to you." Ashley wiped her tears away from her face. "It's alright it wasn't your fault or mine. It was his fault, he should have tried to be a better husband and father. Not have tossed me aside like garbage."
After they finished their lunch, she is making them each a hot cup of tea. "After my dad kicked out of our house. He and his mistress were enjoying their new lives together. Mom even doe she was five months pregnant. She tried to find work anywhere she could. But no one would hire her; just because she was pregnant with no working skills. Then we were living on the streets and begging for money, food or a drink. But no one cared to help us. Then one night their was really bad snow storm." Ashley couldn't hold back her pain anymore. "It was very cold that night, it was getting very bad. My mom covered me with her own body. She died that day; along with my sister. She died on those streets because my father don't love her anymore. He ruined my life, my mom and my baby sister died with my mom. I was sent to orphaned and no one would adopt me. So I been alone for a long time."
Rick walks around her small table, pulling her in for a hug. She is sobbing loudly against his shoulder; she is shaking violently. Rick was trying to comfort her as best he could. He had tears in his eyes too; he kisses her forehead. "You're alright I'm here. I'm so sorry, you had to go through all of that." Ashley head was starting to hurt. The pounding in her head was bothering her. She was taking some deep breathe. Both of them take a sit together. He is making some more hot tea for them. He added some flavors to it; it touches really good.
