Several Centuries Ago…
"No, I'm telling you… that star is looking ready to blow at any moment!"
"And I'm tellng you that light takes a long time to travel through space, even at the speed of light. For all we know, that star already went supernova and we're staring at fragments of a supernova."
"How about we just ask mama? She knows a thing or two!"
"Good idea."
The two Lumas flew toward Rosalina, who was in the middle of meditating and levitating off the ground. "Mama!"
Rosalina opened her eyes and turned her head to her Lumas, where she had a smile on her face. "Hello cuties. What seems to be the trouble?"
"We just want to know… if that star is either about to implode or had already gone supernova and we're just seeing remnants of it."
Rosalina let out a chuckle, summoning her telescope. "Well, let's take a look, shall we?" She would aim her telescope toward it. "Yup, that star is still there. It should take about days before it implodes in on itself. We'll be long gone by the time it goes supernova."
"Told ya!"
"So, suppose if it implodes overnight… will we be okay?"
Rosalina smiled. "Of course. We're currently in the Goldilocks Zone of this event. This supernova should be a small one. We will be okay."
"That's good to hear!"
Rosalina let out a yawn. "Mmm, bedtime already? I guess it is that time already."
"Oh! Oh! Mama, can you read us a story before we all go to sleep?"
Rosalina giggled. "Of course, darling."
"Awesome! I get to pick!" The Luma took off flying.
"No no no, you picked last time! The story you picked bored us all to tears that mama fell asleep in her chair!"
"That was a few weeks ago!"
"Nope, I remember it like it was last night! Or does the saying go "yesterday"? Oh, you know what I mean!"
Rosalina giggled, taking one last look at the star. "Your life has come to an end so suddenly… but I know you still have some energy left in you. Stay strong… my child."
Early the next morning…
Rosalina was curled up in her bed, her arm wrapped around a teddy bear plush. "Mmm, mama… I don't want to go to the doctor… I'm fine…" She mumbled in her sleep.
Suddenly, an alarm blared throughout the Observatory, startling her awake. "Ah!" She yelped as she sat up, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. "What on earth…?" She wondered as she hopped out of bed, magically transforming her pajamas into her dress as she walked out of the bedroom dome.
"No no no, this can't be right! He's way ahead of schedule!" Polari exclaimed.
"What's going on?" Rosalina asked.
"You know that star that's about to go supernova? It's about to blow way ahead of schedule!"
"Well, stars are unpredictable." Rosalina shrugged it off. "We should be okay, we'll just be witnessing the event a little earlier than anticipated."
"Here's the kicker… the supernova that we predicted that it'll be a small explosion and we'll be safe from the blast? Weeeeell… apparently, this thing's blast radius is a little more than we bargained for."
"How bad?"
"Let's just say we're about to be cooked. The Goldilocks Zone has moved fifteen hundred lightyears from us, we'll never make it!" Polari said.
Rosalina's eyes widened. "Will the force field hold?"
"It should, but I don't think it can withstand the power of quintillion tons of cosmic space radiation! Not with that force!"
Rosalina clenched her fists. "Keep all the Lumas in here. I'll take it head on."
"What?!" Polari exclaimed as Rosalina floated out of the Observatory as the force field surrounded the Observatory. "Rosie, are you crazy?! You're about to take on the full force of a supernova! It'll kill you!"
"Only if I die."
"Yes, that's what… killing you means."
Rosalina clapped her hands together and formed a cosmic barrier around herself and the Observatory. "Extra protection won't hurt." She said as she kept at it. "How much time do we have left?"
"Ten seconds!"
"This should hold." Rosalina said, throwing down layers of protection.
"Five… four… three… two… ONE!"
The star shrunk down before unleashing a powerful supernova. The shockwave went throughout the cosmos, and some of it was headed straight for the Observatory. "You might want to brace for impact!" Rosalina called out to them as the Lumas and Rosalina braced themselves as the cosmic explosion struck the barriers that Rosalina threw down.
One barrier shattered… two barriers shattered… three… four…
Rosalina put her hands out, trying to add more. "Come on… I'm not going to let you destroy my home!" She declared.
Five barriers shattered… six… seven… eight…
"Hnnngh!"
"I think she's slowing it down!" A Luma exclaimed.
"Not by much though!"
Nine barriers… ten… eleven… twelve… thirteen…
"Almost… there…! Slowing it down… come on…!" Rosalina grunted, watching the supernova plow through the barriers. It did slow it down but not by much. A bead of sweat rolled down Rosalina's forehead as it kept shattering through the barriers faster than she can make them.
"…So be it." Rosalina said, her eyes lighting up as the last forcefield she made lit up as well, where she made it extra durable… right as the supernova slammed into the forcefield. "Hnnngh!" She grunted, thrusting her arms to try to hold it together as the supernova bent and warped the forcefield against its might.
A small crack formed in front of Rosalina. A small growl escaped her throat as she repaired the crack instantly, but more cracks starts to appear as she desperately tried to repair them. "Rosie!" Polari called out.
"I… will not… let you destroy my family!" She yelled, but to her horror, the barrier started to disintegrate. She desperately tried to repair it, but in the end…
The barrier shattered.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!" She screamed as the supernova enveloped her where she would absorb the supernova… and then fell limp in the vaccum of space as the supernova went through, hitting the Observatory before passing through.
"Rosie!" Polari flew over to her as did several Lumas, gently picking her up. "Easy… easy… take her to her room."
"Did it not work?" A Luma wondered.
"I think it did. Otherwise the Observatory would've been cooked." Polari responded as they took her to the Bedroom dome.
A week later…
"Mmm…" Rosalina opened her eyes and sat up, but felt her chest burning. "Mmph!" She winced, clutching it while wincing. "…Heartburn…? What did I eat…?" She wondered as she stumbled out of bed… and that's when she noticed salve all over her body. "Did I get burned?" She asked herself, and then gasped, recalling what had happened. "Oh my gosh… I lived." She whispered as she breathed a sigh of relief as she walked out.
"Mama!" A Luma chirped as everyone gathered around her.
"How do you feel?" Polari asked with relief in his eyes.
"A bit woozy, but I should be okay. How long was I out?"
"A week."
"A week?!" Rosalina said in disbelief. "Holy stars… how did I even survive…"
"Sheer dumb luck? Perseverance? Your immortality? Wait… no, you can no longer age but can still die." A Luma mumbled.
"You did absorb a lot of that blast, but you look fine. Maybe you just got lucky?" Polari guessed.
"Or maybe you have high durability than we all thought!" A Red Luma said.
"What's durability?" A Green Luma wondered.
"Simple! It means… you can… do two abilities at once…?"
"No, it means how hard you can take a hit." Rosalina responded.
"Oooooh."
"I should be okay soon…" Rosalina said as she stretched. "Anyone hungry?"
"Me! Me! Me!" All the Lumas chirped.
Rosalina giggled. "Okay, I'll go make something for all of you." She said and walked off.
"Something feels… different about her." Polari said.
"You think? She looks the same to me."
"No, it's like… something about her power. I can sense it… and I'm sensing instability in her. …Odd, I've never felt that kind of power from her before. That's… highly concerning."
Later on in the day…
"Alright, we're coming into contact with Spring Meadow Galaxy." Rosalina said.
"Ooooh, I heard it's lovely in this time of year." Polari said as they pulled up toward the galaxy, and then they hopped down, where they would see tons of flowers blooming in the grassy fields. Piranha Plants slept peacefully, Cheep Cheeps swam in the creek near a cliffside that had a waterfall pouring down into it, several birds flew around chirping.
"So pretty…" Rosalina smiled as she walked through the fields while the Lumas explored, some of them playing in the lake, some Lumas cannonballed off the waterfall, some frolicked about the fields, some played hide and seek in the trees… everyone was having an enjoyable time.
Rosalina herself picked up a flower and smelled it, where it gave off a pleasant aroma. "Aaah…" She smiled as she watched a few Stingbies fly by to collect pollen as some Star Bits rained down on the planet. "Lovely."
Nearby, a ship descended on top of a cliff where several bandits got out of the ship. "Ah, smell that wonnderful air. There should be treasure nearby! Destroy anything that gets in our way!" The leader ordered.
"Yes sir!"
Back with Rosalina, a few Lumas came flying over to her. "Mama look! We made a flower crown for you!"
"Aww!" Rosalina smiled, as the Lumas put it on her head. "Thank you." She still smiled, causing the Lumas to chirp happily.
"Uh oh…" Polari spoke up, catching Rosalina's attention. "Space bandits."
"Hmm?" Rosalina spotted them descending the cliffs. "Oh… well, as long as they don't bother us, we should be okay."
"Hey boss, look who it is." One of them handed the boss the binoculars.
"Well well well… looks like the self imposed space queen is here for a visit. Perhaps we should give her a little greeting."
"What about the treasure?"
"Of course we'll get the treasure. Some of you go after that… we'll give the cosmic queen a proper greeting…"
Rosalina hummed to herself, walking over toward the lake and knelt down, staring at the Cheep Cheeps and Bloopers swimming around. She let out a giggle as a Cheep Cheep looked up to stare at her before swimming away.
"Well well well! Look who decided to drop in on a beautiful planet such as this."
Oh sure… Rosalina rolled her eyes as she turned around, summoning her wand. "Starrow… so "nice" to see you again."
"Rosie. I see you haven't changed a bit. Seriously, how do you even see through one eye with those bangs of yours?"
"You get used to it after a few decades. How do you live with yourself destroying civilizations across the cosmos?"
"Hey. They harbor treasure, they don't share, they get executed. It's just good business."
"You sure you don't want to be renamed "Space Pirate" instead? Rolls off the tongue better than Space Bandit."
"Nah, a pirate's life isn't for me. But a bandit? Yeah, that's a life for all of us. You know, you could join us… spend a lifetime of crime, get all the treasure, we all split it fifty fifty, you'd be living the good life instead of wasting time taking care of these kids."
"I am the protector of these cosmos. It is my life's mission to protect it. That includes watching over these Lumas."
"Ha! Yeah, and then you watch 'em turn into Stars, nebulas, comets, planet, whole galaxies… and yet, they are completely vulnerable to pillaging or something worse like say… a supernova. Yeah, I'm sure you've seen that light show last week. You couldn't even miss it in this quadrant of the universe. Great job watching over these kids when one of yours died in a violent explosion. Mother of the millennium, everyone!"
"When they feel it is their time to leave the nest, I will let them go on their own free will. Because that's what mother's do."
"Yeah… and you know what else mother's do? Sleep right next to their child underneath a tree on the hill. I'm sure you have experience with that."
Rosalina frowned. "…I think it's time for you to leave this galaxy."
"Struck a nerve, did I? It'd be a shame if I were to… STRIKE ANOTHER!" He yelled, taking out his sword and pointing it at Rosalina, the blade inches from her face… but she did not flinch. She slowly folded her arms.
"How many times have we done this song and dance before? We talk, we have a squabble, you go and lick your wounds… aren't you just bored of this?"
"Hey, I'll have you know I got some clean hits on you… so I'm not the only one who goes and licks their wounds."
"Oh, that was you who hurt me? I thought I just walked into a prickle bush."
"Where are you getting at?"
"I'm saying you're worthless. And this scimitar of yours? It looks like it would fare better being a letter opener. Not at all that threatening."
Starrow snarled. "I'll have you pay for what you did to my arm the last time we've met! It's all cybernetic thanks to you!"
"Not my fault you chose to shield yourself with your arm instead of using your shield. The amount of nerve damage it took… I'm surprised it didn't fall off the moment I threw that cosmic blast at you. I suppose you had it amputated when we left."
"You want to know what this metal arm can do?" He put his scimitar away and aimed it at Rosalina, where it turned into an arm cannon. "FEAST YOUR EYES!" He yelled, shooting her point blank but she used a force field to block it and then she telekinetically lifted him up in the air.
"You bore me." She said, tossing him to the side while she casually threw a cosmic wave at his other men without even looking, knocking them down effortlessly.
One space bandit dive bombed at Rosalina, but she stepped out of the way as the bandit faceplanted near her. "Oomph!"
Starrow got back up, shaking it off and glared at Rosalina before turning his head to see a Luma watching on with curiosity, looking smaller compared to the others. "Must be a newborn." He mused as he had an idea. "And little ones are less smarter than the others…" He said as he picked up a Star Bit. "Use the little guy to distract the space queen… get in a hit and maim her. Foolproof!" He smirked and then threw the Star Bit.
"Hmm? Oh!" The little Luma's eyes sparkled and flew over to the Star Bit.
"That's right… easy does it." He pulled out a pistol as a pink Luma would see this.
"Wait… what?" The Pink Luma stared at him, before turning to the baby Luma and then Rosalina who was effortlessly dodging the attacks. "Oh crud!" He exclaimed as Starrow put in a bullet.
"Heeeey Roooosiiiiiie~! You might wanna keep an eye on your kid!"
"Hmm?" Rosalina turned her head after blasting away a Space Pirate, then saw what he was going to do. "No!" She exclaimed as she got in front of the baby Luma right as Starrow fired the gun.
"MAMA LOOK OUT!" The Pink Luma yelled as he got in front of her… and got struck by the bullet. Rosalina's eyes widened in horror, watching him fall to the ground… but even Starrow's eyes widened as well.
"Wait… that wasn't part of the plan!"
"LUMA DOWN! I REPEAT, WE HAVE A LUMA DOWN!" A Yellow Luma yelled as Rosalina knelt down and cradled the Luma, tears swelling in her eyes… and then suddenly, the ground began to shake violently.
"What on earth…?" Polari wondered as he saw cracks forming. "Planetquake…?"
"The epicenter is coming from mama!" A Luma exclaimed as Polari stared at her, noticing Rosalina starting to glow.
"The instability inside of her… ooooh no…"
"What? What are you saying?"
"This type of power is only felt when a star is about to go supernova… and I have a feeling she's about to go supernova!"
"Oh crud, what are we gonna do?!"
"EVACUATE! EVERYONE TO THE OBSERVATORY!" Polari yelled as they all took off, while one Luma took the baby Luma away.
"What… what have you done…"
BGM: Rage of Sparta (God of War III)
"Aheheheh… look, can we just pretend this never happened and let bygones be bygones?" Starrow said nervously as Rosalina stood stall, her hair glowing brightly as the sun, her eyes started glowing with plasma and her dress turned orange. "Oookay, that's new!"
"You will regret that."
"Can we just pretend this incident never happened? It was a freak accident, I swear! It was just a prank! I was just gonna shoot you in the shoulder after using your kid as bait to get your guard down and we'd laugh about it later! Aheheheheh… I should keep my mouth shut."
The ground cracked as fire shot out of the cracks, as if the planet's core was reacting to the supernova. Cliffsides began to crumble as water splashed everywhere. Flowers were burnt to a crisp while the wildlife tried to get the heck out of there.
"Burn."
Rosalina manipulated the fire coming out of the mantle and threw it at Starrow, forcing him to dodge. "Yipe! I'll just, uh… head on home! Nice catchin' up with ya!" He took a running start but Rosalina snapped her fingers as a massive plume of fire shot out of the ship, destroying it. "…Oh crap!" He whimpered as Rosalina then flew over and punched him in the face, where cosmic radiation shot out from the impact of the punch.
"AAAAAAAAARGH!" He grunted, being thrown toward the cliffside… or what was left of it. "Mmph!"
Rosalina floated up, manipulating the fire around her as she made a fire tornado as she threw it down, destroying everything in its wake as Starrow had to hold on to a tree to prevent himself from getting sucked in, but the sheer heat was enough to burn everything as the tree he was latching on to caught ablaze and forced Starrow off, and then he got sucked into the tornado but then Rosalina dissipated the fire tornado as she conjured up a cosmic bomb and threw it on the ground.
"A… bomb…?" He weakly groaned as he saw it was imploding on the inside. "Oh, son of a bitch…" He groaned as the bomb exploded, destroying everything in its path and destroying the entire galaxy.
End BGM
"Hah… hah… hah…" Rosalina panted as she levitated down and landed on what was left of the planet, then she turned back to normal. "Wh-what…?" Rosalina wondered as she turned her head and saw debris floating around, chunks of the planet were floating around and void of life, including several dead trees. "I… I did this…?" She wondered as she fell on her knees, looking at her hands in utter disbelief.
"Rosie…? Are you okay?" Polari came flying over.
"…What have I done…" She whispered, grabbing Polari and stuffing him in her chest to hug him tightly.
"Mmph! There there… it's all over… it'll be okay. Let's just hope this never happens again!"
Several centuries later, in the present…
Rosalina looked on at the cosmos, closing her eyes. "Twice that has already happened… and it was more catastrophic the second time that has happened. It will take a century for it to be fully prepped… but I hope it's never used again."
Palutena put a hand on Rosalina's shoulder. "And we'll do everything we can to prevent that from happening."
"I sure hope so…" Rosalina nodded solemnly. "Spring Falls… Fleet Glide… I just hope I'm not near a galaxy should this incident occur again…"
Ibuki: Damn... that's awful.
Yeah... preeeetty grim...
