Brewing
Estelle panted for breath as she jumped back into battle. Bounding over the creatures, Estelle lit her arms on fire and let out streams of flames towards her opponents. The howls rang out in the woods whilst she burned them alive, a bored expression on her face as she did so.
The ringing earpiece caught her attention, and Estelle answered as a pair of claws lunged to take a piece of her. "Report," Estelle stated blandly, the growls of the spirits ringing out around her.
"Uhhh, is this not a good time?" Izuku unsurely responded back. Estelle's eyes enlarged in bewilderment since it was the first time anybody within her class had called her. Concern rose at the potential implications of that.
"No, of course not. Is something happening? Is there a spirit around?"
"Uh, well. No?"
Caught off guard, Estelle barely managed to dodge the batsnouts attack before lunging back in with her Katana. Frowning in aggravation, Estelle bluntly voiced, "So why are you calling me when I'm working?"
"Wahhh! Well, uh - " Izuku tried to clarify nervously before he was cut off by another member of the class.
"Hey! Estelle! Get back soon! Lunch is ready!" Hagakure hollered out from the earpiece. Estelle winced from the abrupt sound and scowled.
"I'm working", She responded bluntly as she let out a stream of electricity through her Katana and sliced a few heads instantly. The screeches were loud enough for those on the other end to hear.
"Uh, are you sure everything is okay?!" Kirishima questioned with dread, the sounds causing them all to stop.
"Give me a second; I'm almost done with this batch", Estelle muttered back. Taking the last few stragglers down with fire laced daggers. Estelle was finally done with the south woods. This day was abnormal, and it put her on edge.
Spirits had been dead silent for over a week. And now, they were starting to come in hoards. It was like they were beginning to team up, and Estelle didn't like it, not one bit. It was fishy, and it stunk. Sighing to herself, Estelle slid the Katana back into her Saya and dropped herself onto the trunk. Forgetting some of the class were listening, Estelle jumped to the sound of Bakugo's harsh voice through her earpiece.
"Lioness! What the hell was that?"
"Jeez, calm down. I was just taking a seat."
"Tch. Sounded like you fell off a cliff."
"Yeah, whatever, what is it? You guys never call me."
"The class is all here. We thought we'd give you a ring before we eat because you haven't arrived back yet," Momo started.
"Yeah, but that sounded intense. Is everything okay?" Kaminari added.
Estelle leaned back further onto the trunk, her eyes gazing at the sky as she replied. "Somethings not right with these spirits. They not acting normal. I'm just looking into it."
Stunned silence was on the other end of the line. The class weren't expecting an answer like that from Estelle.
"Well! Investigate later! Come back for food."
"Wha-? No. I have a couple more-"
"Estelle, come back and eat. You can go back out once you've gotten some rest. You've been out since early morning."
Sighing, Estelle knew they were right. But she didn't like it. "Yeah, whatever. I'm on my way."
Ignoring their victorious responses, Estelle hung up and flew back to UA. Her mind whirring on the possibilities.
Walking through Height's Alliance doors, Estelle was greeted by her classmates as soon as she stepped into the room. Looking at their smiling faces, she could tell that her agreement delighted them. It was strange to see satisfied faces from such a simple task.
She wasn't sure how to feel about that. Taking a seat in the living room where the class were unwinding. Her plate was already laid out and warm from the recent cooking. Feeling gratitude towards her classmates, Estelle peacefully started to eat her meal as the students talked amongst themselves.
Her mind trailed back to spirits, indifferent from the others babbling. First, they stopped appearing at all. The ghouls were coming through at an abnormal frequency, and now. They were back, and the spirits were working together.
Spirits tended to stay with their own kind, a bit like animals now that she recognised them. They share similarities; Trolls, batsnouts etc. They all stay within their own species or alone. The fact that different species could be working together was not good. Not at all.
The last time they did this was when they were under his banner. All dark creatures alike were working together like one big happy fucking family.
Her blood ran cold.
Could it be?
"No, there's no fucking way."
"Estelle?" Jiro questioned, the class turning to the girl from her outburst.
Blushing slightly from the unexpected slip, Estelle turned her head away to avoid the gazes of those watching her. "Sorry", She muttered back, hoping that would ease their concern.
The students gazes flickered to each other in silent understanding. It seemed that the oddity happening outside was taking up her thoughts.
"Well, if you want to share. We'll be here," Momo added kindly, the class nodding their heads in agreement.
Estelle hid her amazement from the response, but she couldn't deny the delight blooming within her. They weren't forcing her to speak; it felt like they were really beginning to understand the patience Estelle asked for.
Estelle knew that positive reinforcement was the way to ensure that they stayed in their own lane. Giving them a small smile, she answered, "I'll let you know once I've figured it out."
Before a response could be uttered, the phone ringing stilled everyone as they turned to face the source. The students watched as Estelle answered with an annoyed scowl.
"Report."
It was silent as they waited and watched Estelle's reaction to the phone call. Typically, Estelle was pretty expressionless to the whole experience, so it was a wonder when she was clearly taken aback by what she heard on the other end.
"What?! That doesn't make any sense."
Silence.
"I'll be there in five. Keep the civilians away, and stay clear of them yourself. Do you understand? I don't need your ego getting in the way of peoples lives."
Understanding the implications, the class immediately stood as if they were prepared to fight. The click of the phone was all that could be heard before Estelle shot off the couch and immediately headed for the door, her wings shimmering behind her like they were ready to come out.
It was only when she reached the exit that Estelle realised the class were behind her in tow; turning to them swiftly, she murmured, "You know you can't come. Stay here."
"But what if you-"
"Stay, that's an order, cadet." Estelle finalised sternly towards Kaminari before the door slammed shut behind her.
The class were stunned by the sudden change of pace and rushed back into the living room. Everyone's voices were talking over each other in an attempt to be heard.
"We should go after her! We have our provisional license!"
"That won't work in this situation."
"We can't fight them anyways!"
"What if she gets hurt?"
"Quiet!" Iida eventually shouted when the noise had gotten too deafening. Thankfully, the students quietened to their class rep, their faces showing various stages of anxiety.
"There is nothing we can do. I'm sure Estelle appreciates the sentiment, but we are sure to get in her way. It sounds like there was an attack; we should wait to hear any news."
Stillness filled the room from Iida's words as they contemplated what they could do. Eventually, they admitted defeat and realised that he was right. They were powerless right now.
Shoto was the first to move when he turned to grab the remote from a couch. The room remained mute as he turned on the television to the news. To their surprise, his intuition was correct as news outlets were on the scene, talking about what was taking place from a distance.
"There seem to be numerous unknown creatures attacking these various complexes. From the intel we have gathered, they have rushed in herds as they crush anything in its warpath. The number of injured is yet to be confirmed, but this situation needs to be neutralised quickly. Stay tuned as we keep an eye out for more."
Shaken, the class watched as creatures rushed past the camera with screeches that could hurt the human ear. Suddenly, the camera shook like it had experienced an earthquake and slowly panned upwards to the sky.
A cold feeling struck them as they watched what looked like a humongous snakehead peer out from behind a massive elongated tower. The screams of the civilians grew as they ran on the ground in a frenzy. Panic was escalating quickly from the bizarre sight.
"We seem to be seeing a massive creature from one of the droves rushing through the area. The city is in widespread panic as the heroes on the scene try to keep the snake thing at bay to keep the people safe. Why aren't they attacking? Oh my god! It has three heads!"
Eyes broadened from the scene on the television; where was Estelle? She should be there by now. It seemed like their thoughts were answered as a firey butterfly shot through the air like it was breaking the spread of sound. Estelle's figure zipped towards the building where the snake had curled around.
The heroes surrounding the snake moved away to a distance as Estelle hurried into the scene. Screams could still be heard as the snake gazed at the girl in front of it with one head. The following two heads immediately moved to surround Estelle with intensive fervour.
Concern rose as Estelle didn't move from her place. The jaws of the snakes were slowly opening as if ready to eat the student whole. As they all rushed down to swallow her, Estelle finally let out a massive lightning strike, effectively dazing all three heads as it wailed in despair.
Not wasting a breath, the glimmer of Estelle's Katana was caught by the light as she stabbed at one of the throats and sliced downwards, using her Katana like a free ride as she hung onto it. Blood splattered on the building as the head of the middle snake slammed against the concrete.
Using wind, Estelle created an air whip and slicked it towards the second head. The makeshift blast of air immediately sliced off the frantically shaking second head without a moment to waste.
Those panicking below surveyed as Estelle tore the beast apart without a second thought. The hoards were beginning to leave their locations as they hurried towards dinner. Drool could be seen dripping down their mouths as they passed the camera. Those watching the creatures could see the savagery in their movements. They were unhinged like they were ready to rip apart anything in their way. It left a cold feeling in the people's hearts, and their fear began to rise the longer they watched.
"It seems like the otherworldly hero from UA has stepped in to handle the situation. As you can see with the footage. She seemed to be doing extremely well. But what does this mean for her? Is Estelle to blame for this?"
Before they could even think about the implications of what the news reporter had just stated. Class 1A gasped when the third and final head of the snake smashed into Estelle's side with a hiss. Her tiny figure hit the building close by, and dust filled the air from the collision.
Panic and apprehension immediately skyrocketed from the aftermath. Was the only person that could deal with this mess out of the fight already? The classmate's turned to each other in worry; they hadn't even realised spirits could be this big! It was shocking to them; the creature was gigantic.
Thankfully, a slightly injured Estelle flew out of the debris and right back to the final head only a few moments later. Letting out a streamlet of fire into the snake's eyes, Estelle immediately used a water whip to restrain the frantic movements of the pain-filled being and hardened it into various spikes of ice.
The sheer force of the impact from the spikes ripped off the last head of the snake. The final yowl rang out in the city as the neck impacted the ground. Still, Estelle didn't seem to be done yet. Flying back around to the front of the snake long scaley body now limp around the tower. Estelle pierced at the side with one final icicle before the snake disintegrated.
Relief flooded everyone watching as they saw the sight of ash leaving into the air like Kamino Ward. The creature had been defeated, and the city's people were safe for now.
They could not see Estelle's expression while this was happening, but the class watched as Estelle's body slumped for a moment before swiftly turning around to the few hoards rushing towards her with their war cries.
A hundred creatures running towards Estelle's location could be heard with yodels, screams, roars and manic laughter. It was an odd feeling to watch as a hundred ugly, furious and terribly hungry creatures rushed towards the girl down the road who hadn't moved a muscle in the face of them.
Estelle just stared at them; her Katana pointed to the ground as she waited for them to come to her. The camera panned onto her, and everyone watching had to halt from the sight. She looked magnificent, like a strong pillar ready to take anything on. Prepared to defend and protect the people.
She looked like a hero.
As the creatures got closer and closer, unease began to rise once again at the fact Estelle still hadn't moved.
"What is she waiting for?!" Kirishima cried towards the television, breaking the class from their silent watching. Letting out their own exclamations, they tried to tell Estelle to do something. Anything.
Finally, Estelle quickly extended her hands in an upwards motion. Ice and concrete seemed to come out of nowhere in extreme amounts. The massive spikes rose up in the air as the creatures moving to barrel into her crashed into the ice with no time to manoeuvre around it.
She had effectively taken half of them down with a single move.
Lowering the ice away, Estelle instantly moved like lightning. It looked as if she was in multiple places at once. Striking them in the weak spots and moving on to the next before they could even start disintegrating. It was like a true combatant, putting everything into the battlefield and winning. She was pulverising them without pause.
When Estelle was finally free from the monsters, she took no break as she quickly moved to the building. Moving her hands in multiple waving motions, the camera captured Estelle fixing the damaged buildings as fast as picking up a rock.
It didn't take long for it to look like the attack hadn't even taken place at all. Still, Estelle didn't cease. The cameras watched on as Estelle marched through clusters of civilians and barked out words that they could not pick up. In response, hands gradually raised in the air and Estelle nodded before stepping forward.
It was then that the world watched Estelle heal those injured, refusing to converse to anyone as she piled over the most wounded people before moving on to minor injuries. The ambulances had joined her, but luckily there weren't many severely harmed.
It was an hour and a half later that it looked like everything had been dealt with. Except, the cameras were still there. As Estelle's wings unfurled to leave, the newswomen the class had been watching had finally managed to get the camera in her face. Estelle was not impressed by the look on her face.
"Yes?"
"Hello! I am a reporter from Japan news. I would like to ask for a comment from you."
The camera panned onto her as she visibly gave a tired sigh. Gazing at the camera earnestly, Estelle declared. "My name is Estelle, and I am not from your world. This was not out of my own violation that I am here, but as you may have heard, I was visited by the individual who put me here at Kamino ward. With that, he had created a rift between worlds. I have been working to resolve this privately as these creatures are solitary beings; today's attack is unusual.
I would like to guarantee that I will do everything possible to have this matter dealt with. The people here do not deserve the hardships of my world. So, I promise you that I will work night and day to resolve this matter. And, I will leave in peace once your stability is restored. You have my word. I apologise for any inconvenience this has to you. But, I ask that you put your faith in me, as the safety of others is my only wish."
"So, is this your fault?"
"The person responsible is now dead. But that does not mean I am not to blame either; they are from my world. But that is why I have the intent of fixing this before it escalates."
"So, this is your fault?"
"If you need someone to blame, by all means. Blame me. That won't stop me from my word; I will have this issue dealt with."
"How can we trust your word? What if your working with them?" The new's reporter pried, causing the class to glower at the screen.
"I assure you that I wouldn't have taken down the one responsible for our arrival if I was working with them. Dark spirits have no humanity, and I have fought them all my life. Public opinion does not matter to me; their safety does. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have more of these spirits to deal with. Have a nice night."
"Wait!"
