You know the drill! District 5 here we go!

Ingrid "Gigi" Sampson, 16, District 5 Female

"Gigi, let's play shop!" Adam says. I grin and say, "Sure! Foster do you want to play as well?" Foster politely declines.

I grab my grocery store uniform costume I bought from the black market. The shirt is dusty, and I can tell it has been used before, especially because it has a name tag with "Harold" on it. The uniform is a little big for me, but I will manage.

I walk up to the counter and put Adam on the stool. Shop is his favorite game, and he always gets excited when we play it. I grab some of the items we made. Red balls that could be tomatoes, green ones that could be cabbage, old boxes of cereal we kept just so we could play this game.

I try to speak in an old man's voice and say, "Hello, i'm Harold! Welcome to the shop!" Adam giggles. "What would you like to buy today?" Adam takes 2 red balls, 3 green balls, one cereal box, and one old yogurt carton.

"I would like 2 matos, 3 cabbage, 1 coco puffs, and 1 yogie!" I take all his stuff and pretend to scan it. "That will cost 35 dollars and 20 cents!" Adam takes some of the green paper we drew to make look like money. We decorated the paper so well, we even included the capitol seal that you usually see on Panemian dollars. I may not seem like it, but I am very crafty.

Adam has trouble to find the money, so Foster, the more resourceful twin goes over and helps him. We also made little circles that look like coins, and Foster helps him find the 20 cent coin.

Here in Panem, 20 cent coins are pretty hard to find, so it is always special when we use them during shop. The twins are only 2, and they are pretty smart, so shop is a fun way to teach them math, even if Foster usually doesn't play.

The door to our apartment opens, and my sister Vida walks inside. Adam runs over to her and yells "Mommy! Me and Gigi played shop and it was so much fun!" Gigi is what everyone calls me now. The twins started calling me Gigi because they couldn't pronounce Ingrid, but soon Vida called me that too.

Vida looks exhausted. It is 7 in the evening, and she has been working for 12 hours today. Vida works hard at the power plant, which means she doesn't usually have time to be with the twins. I babysit them though, which I don't mind because they are pretty chill. Vida tries to be with her kids when she can though.

We moved out of our parents house before the twins were born, because they were pretty abusive toward us, and when Vida got pregnant, they didn't kick us out, but they made our lives miserable.

Here in District 5 people of reaping age are allowed to live away from their parents as long as they can afford it. Anyone under 12 would be sent to an orphanage.

The first few months were hard, especially when the twins were born. Eventually things got under control.

We are pretty busy, with Vida working all day, and me having school and work at the black market. When i'm at school or work the twins are watched by their father. His job as a security guard starts when I get home to watch them, so it all works perfectly.

Vida is a loving mother and hopes to one day reunite with the twins father. I want a happy family one day, it's a dream of mine.

I am manipulative, I am cunning, but I do love my family and wish the best for them.

Tomorrow is the reaping, and i'm not known to be a selfless person, but it may surprise you that I wish I had someone to volunteer for me if I get reaped. I have some tesserae but not much, so my chances are somewhat high. Vida is 19, so she isn't eligable for the reaping, but even if she was, I would never let her volunteer for me, I love her too much.

Connor Merlyn, 18, District 5 Male

I wake up to to a loud yawn, and I see Sabrina's dark blonde hair and hazel eyes. I kiss her cheek and say "Good morning sunshine." She laughs and kisses my nose. We look at each other for a long time, and then I hear climbing from up the stairs.

My bratty older sister Cora opens the door without knocking, and yells "Get up douchebag, dad said-" I watch her blue eyes under those ugly glasses widen as she sees me and Sabrina half naked in my bed. She screams loudly, and my father quickly runs up to the doorway.

Thankfully Sabrina is sneaky and quickly runs under the bed while Cora is looking away. "Dad, that Sabrina girl was in bed with him! Do something he needs to be punished!" Dad looks furious but then sees that Sabrina isn't there. He looks around the room, but isn't as smart as me and Sabrina, so he doesn't find her.

He says, "I don't know what you are talking about Cora, i'm sure you just saw something." "But dad!" Dad puts his hand over Cora's mouth and glares at me when he leave. "You know what I saw." She says. I grin at her and she leaves.

That was pretty much a prank of itself. Me, Sabrina, Lucas, and Felix always prank Cora. Most of the time she never even knows.

I have no idea why, but my family hates Sabrina and my friends, they think they aren't good enough for me, and that's why our relationship is complicated.

Sabrina says goodbye, and that she will see me at the reaping. She goes to my balcony, and climbs down. I wave goodbye to her and then remember the day I met her and my other friends.

Flashback, 6 years ago:

I am playing basketball on the court at my school. My dad is disgustingly rich, and owns a power plant, so I go to one of the best schools in the district. I see some people walk over and it is 2 boys and a girl.

One of the boys with blonde hair says, "Hey, do you mind if we play with you?" I tell them no problem. He says, "Great! I'm Lucas, and that is Felix and Sabrina!" Sabrina is wearing glasses and she smiles and waves at me shyly.

We play for a while, and I can tell they are good! Afterwords we get to know each other a little bit. Lucas came from the McConnell family. I knew this family because they live in the same neighborhood as me, but they are also very wealthy.

I never knew that Lucas came from that family, but I do now. Sabrina and Felix had gotten scholarships to this school. Felix was raised by his grandfather, and Sabrina was raised by her peacekeeper uncle with her cousin.

Me and Sabrina have a lot in common! We both want to be doctors as well, so I joke that we will have to treat each other if we get sick.

Many years later, we are all still friends, and me and Sabrina started dating 2 years ago. She is my world. I would do anything to protect the pack. They all know that there is more to me than my family being loaded.

The Reaping:

Soon you know it, and i'm at the reaping. District 5 is so large, and their isn't enough space for everyone, so some people go into the justice building. Since my dad is mega rich, he bought me a spot at the front of the 18-year-old section.

I stand next to Felix and Lucas, but I can't see Sabrina in the female section, the crowd is too big. Felix asks, "Sabrina told us what happened, how did your sister react." We laugh and then Lucas says, "Remember the time we put a spider in her cereal bowl? She almost slurped it right up! I can't believe she didn't find out it was us!"

This morning me and my family had a small argument at the table during breakfast. It was the same as usual, stop being friends with those people, break up with Sabrina, etc. Honestly I don't give a shit about that anymore, i'm just gonna focus on me, Sabrina, Lucas, and Felix.

The mayor comes up and we quiet down. When our escort Ovid Leek walks up we all can't help but laugh. He looks like an extremely scary and bloody clown. Most people look pretty freaked up, but we are just laughing. Ovid wears crimson lipstick that looks like blood, a red nose, and a crimson afro-wig. He also wears a crimson red suit. Despite his creepiness he smiles and walks to the bowls.

"Hello District 5! Today we will be selecting 1 very brave young man, and 1 very brave young woman to compete in the honor of the 27th annual Hunger Games! As always ladies first!"

He digs around in the female bowl and then pulls one out. "Ingrid Sampson!" A girl, somewhat calm, somewhat freaked out, walks up from the 16 year old section. I can tell she probably comes from the poorer side of 5.

He pulls out the male slip, and I silently hope it isn't me, but I doubt it. "Connor Merlyn!" I walk up and try to look as calm as possible, even though i'm kinda terrified.

I see Sabrina in the crowd, and I see a tear in her eye. When Ovid asks for volunteers, I look at my friends and violently shake my head. No, I will not let them volunteer.

I look down at the chain on my wrist. It has me and Sabrina's initials on it, and it will be my token. I have to make it home to her, I have to. I know I can.

Gigi: Her appearance is complicated. She has dark brown eyebrows that are very curved. Her lips twist slyly. She is not super muscular, but she has some muscles and weight from day to day life. Her hair is wavy-curly (not sure what color), and it is usually in a ponytail or bun.

Connor: Very dark brown hair. Warm blue eyes. 6'0. Muscular from playing sports (basketball mostly). Good sized hands.
