The village they'd taken shelter within this time, happened to come under attack that night. The humans had decided that this meant that they had to help save everyone. Had insisted, actually.

He didn't get it.

/ / / / /

For some reason the humans' reactions were really positive when he suggested Kagome get her shit together by having Miroku train her some while they were all enjoying a meal together. The girl had babbled briefly in joy about him believing in her. Weirdo. The monk had thanked him for some reason before starting a lecture on what he could teach. Sango had nodded her approval. Kilala and Shippo appeared not to care other than giving an enthusiastic sound of encouragement but otherwise focused on eating their fill of food.

Being listened to was nice. And these humans had a tendency to do what he said without him having to threaten them.

Suppose people liking to listen to him was nice too now that he thought about it...

/ / / / /

Well shit. Apparently Sesshomaru was serious about this sword business. He'd attack with an actual distraction, harmed the others in his traveling group, practically made the kid piss his pants, all before using his poison touch on his face to remove a piece of his eyeball.

Not something he wants to experience again, ever.

Still able to see with his other eye, however, he'd gone after the asshole into the portal that led to the dimension holding dear ol' dad's grave. Sango and Kagome followed after him. Also Myoga had popped in at some point. Worthless old man.

He'd managed to fly them all down safely. Landing was a bit rough but he'd give himself some credit since it was the first time he'd had any passengers. Regardless of what Myoga said.

Unlike Kilala, he didn't give out free fly rides all willy-nilly.

/ / / / /

Ok.

Ok. So maybe...he actually cared about the others. Kinda...just a little.

Why else would the sword reveal its power once he decided to use it to protect the other two?

...Well...protect Kagome anyways. Sango's too competent to really need protecting. More like...assisting in her case.

.

Sigh. He should just count himself lucky that the useless looking sword still accepted him despite it being sealed for the 'half-demon' son. Maybe it knew who he was? What he once had been…

How the hell does that work?

.

.

In any case he needed to fly them all out now that Sesshomaru had retreated to lick his wounds. Served him right.

/ / / / /

As great as having a powerful sword was, he had absolutely no weapons training. The hell was he supposed to do with it? Not like it could talk and tell him. Myoga was unhelpful, as always.

At least he had something else of his father's to hold on to besides the clothes on his back.

/ / / / /

Why the hell is he only just NOW being told that this damn sword can break through barriers? That kind of information would've been helpful back when it first would've been useful! Hell, why hadn't he been told about that back when he was trying to figure out how to use the windscar? Or the backlash wave? Is there any other special techniques it has that those old fossils aren't telling?!

Getting real tired of this shit.

Kagome's constantly getting kidnapped when she's not trying to ditch her responsibility to this hunt for the luxury of learning fancy useless stuff, not to mention the weird looks she's always giving me. So annoying.

Sango keeps getting into near desperate hysterics whenever her dead brother shows up in the area. To the point that she actually considers betraying us. Very annoying. I expected...better... for some reason.

.

Barely any of the demons they come across or places they've traveled hold a jewel shard recently. And each time that happens, without fail, the others try to goad me into doing things with them or have fun doing boring or weird human games and rituals. It's only tolerable when Kagome is the one who picks because then he's not the only one baffled by what's going on. Except the Monk. That criminal Monk keeps looking at me with this irritating knowing smirk as he looks from me to the girl.

.

Sesshomaru keeps checking in to see if his human blood is back and to try to steal the sword father willed to me. He doesn't even have the decency to offer up a trade to swap our swords that he left us. Greedy prick wants both.

That Monk, Miroku, keeps trying to use his cursed hand instead of his spiritual powers even when it could kill the idiot. And he even admits to being aware that he relies on the curse he wants to get rid of! Gotta be the dumbest smart person I know...whose still alive anyways.

.

Shippo keeps trying to push his luck in what he gets away with and has taken to the Monk's bad habit of flirting everywhere we go. Disciplining the little brat when he doesn't want to listen is aggravating enough...but it gets infuriating when Kagome tries to butt in and enable his bad behaviour with the foolish argument that the brat is "just a kid" or that it "wasn't a big deal" and that "we're older so you should be mature and not let something like this bother you" or even "he doesn't know any better-you can't hold that against him".

This is why that girl is so unfit to be a mother. It's a good thing her's is still alive otherwise that younger brother of her's would've likely turned into a right little bastard with Kagome's lack of guidance and unneccesary coddling. It's like she doesn't realize that boundaries have to be set to keep the runt from thinking it's ok to kill at random or cause chaos for fun or other crap. And she actually tries to call me dramatic when I tell her the brat needs a reality check to avoid being murdered by someone else. I don't understant why she insists on trying to argue when she loses most of the time. Especially when I remind her that when we met Shippo there were two older demons looking to kill him because he didn't know how to pick his fights. And that if it hadn't been them who came along and helped he would've lost his fool neck either from stupidly confronting the Thunder Brothers or by angering someone else with his tricks that they decide to kill him.

Granted the arguments lessened when Sango decided to pull Kagome aside and with the help of the Monk explained to her in dumbed down human terms just how easy and common it is for a child, demon children especially, to be maimed or murdered by humans and demons alike.

She's still highly annoying regardless.

.

And that bastard Naraku keeps sending puppets, freaky incarnations, and decoys while he hides away like the pathetic coward he is even with a big chunk, almost as big as theirs, of the Shikon jewel in his possession. The wretch would be dead by now if any of those other Narakus he'd kill had actually been him.

Ok. One thing at a time. Threaten Miroku into relying on his powers more than that stupid curse. Get Sango to teach Kagome something about fighting. ...Maybe get some sword tips for himself as well.

...Not sure what to do with Shippo…

Um...

/ / / / /

I'm not sure why I do this...it's not like they're my problem or anything but...I guess...the one good thing about the times Kagome leaves is that I can use the opportunity to either visit Shiori or Jinenji when I want a break from the others yet still would like some companionship.

We did get along well enough when we 1st met...and they seem to enjoy my company too...enough so that they actually claimed to look forward to my visits. I don't know if it's because I revealed to them that I was born half demon like them or if it's cuz I sometimes impart some of the wisdom in survival I gained as the eldest half demon in this part of the lands.

Regardless, it's kinda nice. They even like to share any rumors they've overheard that might be helpful to my hunt. I should introduce them to each other someday.

Sango and the Monk seem curious about where it is I go everytime the Kagome girl leaves and why but they don't try hard to find out. Maybe the runt told them? He should be able to smell the half demons on me...

/ / / / / /

Wow. Ok...wow. Just...the weird girl actually learned something that could be helpful in battle. I'm actually a bit impressed! Miroku's lessons have finally taken hold.

Kagome may not be able to use sutras very well yet but she's capable of a small barrier now. Somehow got it into her head to try to form a spiritual barrier like a body shield when on the move. It can barely stand two good hits but it's a damn good start!

Now if she'd just start to improve under Sango's teachings...

/ / / / /

Finally found the real Naraku and what do we discover? That he's a phenomenally stupid being. I could barely understand it.

Naraku is so amazingly dumb that he actually tried to trap and absorb Sesshomaru.

Sesshomaru.

The Lord Sesshomaru...of the Western Lands.

Just how desperate does one have to be to try something so suicidal?

Sesshomaru...was most displeased.

Apparently Naraku not only asked him here under false pretenses by claiming to have my sword and offering it to that bastard for a favor...he's also a half demon.

...I'm surprised Naraku was even still alive by the time we got there. Guess Sesshomaru wanted to draw out his suffering a bit.

But this is no time to play around. Immediately Miroku, Kilala, Kagome, and Shippo engaged the lackeys Naraku popped out to detain us, doing their best to kill them. Sango and me rushed at Naraku when he pulled back from Sesshomaru's attack. With Miroku's Sutras on her hiraikotsu for added power and my skill over my full demon abilities, the three of us mutilated that cowardly bastard's body but he started to regenerate. Damn!

Thankfully Sesshomaru wasn't interested in turning on us for "getting in his way" and Kagome finally sensed the jewel shards so she could holler their location for us.

Destroying his body a second time with the use of Miroku's sutra attached to Kagome's spiritual arrow as it combined with my wind scar attack, Sesshomaru took petty pleasure from spitting acidic poison onto the "corpse of the cur to dare presume he could touch my body" ….drama queen...while we searched for and dug out the shikon jewel shards as quickly as we could to slow his regeneration further.

/ / / / /

Shit. Kohaku showed up, still possessed, trying to help the partially regenerated Naraku escape.

Not on my watch!

I grabbed the troublesome kid before Sango or Sesshomaru could make a move in his direction and knocked him out cold. I refuse to let Naraku slip from my grasp again! That bastard is dying Today.

With Kagome confirming and purifying all the shards Naraku had in his possession, minus Kohaku's, we finally saw to Naraku's death.

Sesshomaru opted to just walk away after vocally confirming Naraku's death for us, as if he hadn't actually interacted with us. And Miroku had the pleasure of removing all traces of the bastard's existence with his cursed hand.

I think I actually saw a tear leave his eye when the hole closed up and disappeared…

/ / / / /

Right. So...the initial goal was to collect all the shards of the Shikon jewel that Kagome had broken...and there was only one...maybe 2 shards left...including the one inside Kohaku's neck to keep him alive.

Since the others were so hesitant it was up to me to remind Sango of this harsh truth. She...took it better than I thought she would given her past reactions.

In an attempt to be...nice? I suggested that we try seeing if there's a way to safely remove the shard just in case it might've healed him enough to remain alive without it.

.

.

I was sad to see that hope crushed from her eyes when both Kagome and Miroku confirmed after the purifications that the boy's body still had festering and decayed wounds and a delayed heartbeat to indicate that he was little more than a walking corpse. He had a very small chance to live, if he would even survive the shard being removed from inside his neck.

But we had to at least try. For Sango's sake.

/ / / / /

We left the area at Miroku's suggestion to go to a different village that was rumored to have good medicines. Kagome insisted that we go to the Boneeater's well so she could grab things from the future to help us remove the shard safely. I allowed it.

By the end of it, I was the one to cut into the kid's neck due to having the steadiest hand and strongest stomach for it.

I got the jewel shard out, Kagome and Sango worked to keep everything as "sterilized" and pain free as possible for the kid while Miroku focused his spiritual energy to ward off any impurities and prayed for good fortune as old-little Kaede stitched the kid back up. Shippo helped too by standing guard with Kilala to make sure there were no interruptions or distractions.

/ / / / /

So far so good. He's about dead but the kid's technically still alive. Sango's beside herself with relief that her second worst fear hadn't come true but she's still trying to stay realistic about his chances.

I was given a kiss of "gratitude" though, oddly enough. 'Twas nice...

.

For the time being she's been staying with him in Kaede's hut, overseeing his health.

Kagome's been giving me new odd looks for some reason. Don't know why, you'd think she'd be happy to no longer have to hunt for these blasted shards. We even managed to fuse them all together again! The Shikon Jewel is whole once more, I'd say that's something to be pleased about. Don't why she's being so fussy. There's no need for me to stay for her protection anymore. Goal accomplished. Mission completed.

But the only thing she's focused on is asking me repetitive questions about Sango. Why?

Hey guys! Been awhile, welcome to the new year! Hope you all are good and safe. I know some of you are a bit surprised by how fast I'm going through the content for this but I had never intended to make it drag out in the 1st place. Infact this is almost done now! Because in this iteration of the fuedal fairytale fanfic rewrite the point was to show how different sequences, consequences, and certain happenstances would be. That includes how long or short the journey would be and what else the focus could become.

There's like one bonus and a short chapter left. Let me know if you liked this chapter or parts of it and I hope you enjoy the rest.
