"You're going to be just fine, Lucius." Narcissa sighed as she took her lacquered traveling trunk into her pale hand, "Everyone's going to be just fine."

She walked up to her husband who held her under his steely glare of disapproval, even as she leaned forward and pressed a sweet kiss to his lips.

"Draco's home every evening as soon as he finishes at St. Mungo's…...The baby isn't due for another month…..He can apparate here instantly, there's nothing to be worried about." Narcissa reasoned while she stroked her frowning lover's long, blonde hair.

Lucius offered his wife a scowl as a silent response.

"You weren't this nervous when Draco was born!" Narcissa laughed as she stepped back and removed her wand from her pocket.

"'Cissa, you don't have to do this….." Lucius reasoned as he watched his wife prepare to leave him alone in the grand bedchamber that they shared, "Surely your mother can wait a few more weeks until-"

Lucius didn't get to finish his thought before Narcissa apparated away with a loud pop.

He drew in a deep, heaving breath as he grit his teeth.

For a moment, Lucius listened to the quiet of the manor.

The tranquil silence only amplified his anxiety.

That same morning, Harriet Malfoy furrowed her brow as she woke to the feeling of something lodged painfully underneath her left rib cage.

A gentle, soothing sensation over that ache gave her the courage to open her eyes.

The first thing she saw was her handsome husband staring down at her with loving adoration in his grey gaze while his nimble, tapered fingers rubbed calmingly over the pronounced curve of her rounded belly.

"Good morning, love." Draco purred to his omega as he leaned down and gave her a gentle kiss.

"Good morning……" Harriet mumbled groggily as she yawned.

Draco paused to admire the bounce that his mate's heavy curves gave as she struggled to sit up in bed.

After Harriet was comfortably on her bottom with Draco's kind assistance, she blinked as he rose from the covers.

"Where are you going?" She asked with a frown.

"...,To dress for work." Draco laughed. He smirked as he watched his wife admire his bare frame while he changed into his healer's uniform, "See something you like, darling?"

"I wish you didn't have to go." Harriet frowned as she shuffled around in her nest, "I need you, Draco. Can't you take your paternity leave a bit early?"

"Six more days, love, only six more days." Draco cooed to Harriet as he walked over to the bed and kissed her lips again.

Harriet whimpered against him as Draco's lovely, warm hands encircled her belly.

Ten years had passed since the second wizarding world war.

During her successful career as an auror, she and Draco had reunited one afternoon when he had delivered some records from the hospital to her office.

A few flirtatious letters back and forth afterwards had turned into a butterbeer date at The Three Broomsticks.

Another date and then another……..

Eventually, Harriet and Draco had become husband and wife in one of the grandest weddings that the wizarding world had ever seen.

The event had been eagerly hosted by Lucius and Narcisssa at Malfoy manor as Draco's family desperately sought to reclaim a small bit of their notoriety.

Harriet had fallen pregnant three years after her marriage to Draco.

By then, new relationships had been forged.

Narcissa had become like a second mother to the Chosen One shortly after it had been revealed that Severus Snape, godparent to Draco, was actually Harriet's biological father.

Harriet and her father had managed to bond after the initial awkwardness of their situation had dissipated with the passage of time.

Harriet had found a family at last, a father, two fathers, really, a mother, a husband, and soon…….her own baby.

She sighed to herself and cuddled back down into the soft blankets of her nest after Draco left for work that morning.

As Harriet closed her eyes, a soft smile drifted over her lips while she felt her husband's child stir within her.

A few more weeks and she would be a Mummy.

Pleasant dreams danced through her mind as she imagined their blonde-haired little one playing in the garden with Draco.

The grandparents were all excited to meet the littlest Malfoy, but Lucius became deeply disturbed by his own anxiety once Narcissa left for her trip and made him Harriet's only companion besides the family's house elves.

Every hour that his son was gone, Lucius sent one of his servants into Harriet's bedroom to peer at the pregnant omega and make sure that she showed no signs of distress.

Whenever Harriet and Lucius ate their meals together, he stared at her with a look of repressed horror on his pale face, as if she may spontaneously explode and paint the walls with her innards.

Harriet continued on like she didn't notice, but by the afternoon of the third day, she sat down at the writing desk in her bedroom and penned a letter:

Dad,

Draco has three more days at the hospital until his paternity leave begins. Narcissa is away on holiday and I've been left alone with Lucius. Would you be willing to come and give him some company? He's supposed to be the one sitting with me, but really, I think someone needs to sit with him. I thought alphas were supposed to be braver?

Hoping you are well,

Harriet

She sighed as she sent her letter off with an owl.

It was the middle of June, school was not in session.

She hoped that Severus would agree to her request.

………...Surely he would?

Keeping an old friend company for a few days was nothing compared to risking one's life for seventeen years.

Harriet was more than relieved when Severus responded to her letter by appearing at Malfoy manor early the next morning in time to have breakfast with her and Lucius.

She watched her father exercise his controlled use of stoic calm.

Although his dark eyes glanced over at her once or twice, he didn't make her uncomfortable by exhibiting Lucius's same nervousness.

Harriet smiled when she noticed that Severus made certain that he and Lucius talked about subjects other than the baby.

She watched her father-in-law visibly relax during those conversations with his old friend.

The next two days passed peacefully.

Harriet woke on the morning of Draco's last day at work with a sense of relief as she heard her father's low purr of a voice carrying up the stairs from the Malfoy dining room.

Good, he had already come.

A few hours more and Draco would be home until after the birth.

Harriet could have her husband and her father-in-law could have his sense of peace restored.

As Harriet sat up in her nest, a throbbing headache settled into her temples while she rubbed an irritating pain out of her lower back.

"Not long now, love….." Harriet whispered as she laid a hand over her swollen belly.

A small ripple of pain passed through the area without warning.

Harriet drew in an unsteady breath for a moment until it passed.

The uncomfortable sensation was mercifully fleeting.

As soon as she realized that she had nothing to worry about, she began to dress herself in her robes to join her father and father-in-law.

Severus didn't say anything when he noticed the way that his daughter picked at the food on her plate that morning.

He carefully eyed the slight flush in her cheeks and the frown on her face while he kept chatting with Lucius.

Harriet made no complaints.

Severus asked her no questions.

When she failed to come to the table for lunch, however, he was immediately met with Lucius's worried, wide eyes as he stood to his feet.

"I believe it would be wise to check on my daughter…..." Severus nodded, "Would you be kind enough to show me to her room?"

"Of course, Severus." Lucius agreed as he stood too and guided his guest down the hallway towards Draco and Harriet's bedchamber.

Severus stayed silent as they walked, but Lucius chattered.

"Do you believe that something's wrong with the girl?" Lucius asked worriedly, "Or the child? Did you look into her mind and se-"

"-No." Severus cut him off as he glanced over, "I merely wish to see if she's resting well, that's all."

"Of course." Lucius repeated with a nod,

Severus lied to hold onto whatever calm that he could.

He remembered very clearly the day that Harriet had been born.

Lily had eaten little

She had looked flushed in the hours before her labour had begun.

As Severus and Lucius made it to Harriet's bedroom, Severus hoped that his memory hadn't been as accurate as he dreaded.

—————————————————————

"Harriet?" Lucius called as he knocked on Harriet's bedroom door.

When his inquiry was met with silence, he and Severus exchanged a worried scowl.

Lucius raised his hand and knocked again as he called out a little louder, "Harriet?"

The low groan that came from inside the room sent both men's eyes widening.

Severus and Lucius nearly collided with each other as they fought to open the door.

That low groan sounded again as they spilled inside and found Harriet panting for breath as she hunched over the side of the bed.

"HARRIET!" Severus snapped as he pushed Lucius aside and glided towards his daughter.

When Lucius recovered, he walked towards the pained omega on trembling legs.

"D-Dad……." Harriet whimpered as she held her belly and squinted her eyes shut, "It….Oooohhh, it hurts……"

"Why didn't you call for us?" Severus demanded as he glanced over at Harriet's wand on the nightstand.

"It was….so…...sudden…." Harriet huffed as she drew in a shuddering breath, "The pain….and…I...I'm wet….I think….. I think….AAAAAA!"

The moan that left his daughter's lips broke Severus's heart.

He pushed his emotions aside when he noticed the damp sheets underneath her as she curled over her belly.

"Lucius, send for Draco." Severus commanded as he placed a skillful hand on Harriet's lower back and began to rub soothing, low circles into the tensing muscles while she draped an arm around his shoulders.

"I-I…..of course, right away." Lucius said as he swallowed thickly and turned around to cast a summoning charm.

While Lucius attempted to contact Draco, Severus watched a few drops of blood fall from Harriet's mouth to stain the white sheets as she bit her lip.

"If you need to cry out, cry out." Severus murmured to his daughter in a low whisper.

The roar that left her throat made him and Lucius both jolt while they gaped at the labouring omega.

"AAAAAGGGHHH!"

Severus glanced over at Lucius who declared loudly, "I….I sent for Draco! He'll be here in a moment!"

"IT'S TIME!" Harriet howled in one desperate scream as she rocked frantically on the bed.

Severus started to say something but when his daughter put her chin to her chest and let out a low, primal groan, he scowled at Lucius and ordered, "...Have your elves bring clean towels….. and help me position her."

Lucius's wide, grey eyes nearly popped out of his head as he whispered, "Severus…..surely you don't mean for us to-"

"NNNNGGHHH!"

"TOWELS, LUCIUS!" Severus shouted in an uncharacteristically animalistic roar over his daughter's cry of pain.

Lucius scrambled from the room as Severus let Harriet clutch onto him.

He carefully helped her lay back against the fluffy pillows while she kept one hand splayed on the side of her heaving belly.

"The pain will pass……" Severus whispered to his daughter as Lucius rushed back into the room in front of three house elves who carried towels and clean water.

"The pain will pass……" Severus repeated as Harriet glanced between him and Lucius.

"I……" Harriet gasped as she widened her legs, "I can…..I can FEEL IT! OHHHHH! I NEEEEEDD DRACO!"

"Draco's on his way." Severus confidently called over Harriet's cry, "Breathe…...that's it, don't hold your breath in your chest…..let it out."

Lucius paled as Severus folded the skirt of Harriet's robes over her knees.

"...Offer her your hand, Lucius." Severus nodded as Harriet groaned.

When his request was met with silence, he glanced up at his friend.

Severus's dark eyes narrowed into a scowl while he watched Lucius sway on his feet and wipe his clammy face with the palm of a trembling hand.

"Lucius……." Severus tutted in a low, judgemental tone.

He frowned while his cowardly ally staggered.

"I…...I…." Lucius gasped.

"Narcissa has mentioned on several occasions over the years that you were in the room when Draco was born." Severus quipped as Harriet panted for breath.

"I was in the room, yes…..on the floor." Lucius croaked.

Severus narrowed his eyes to incredulous slits as he asked, "The floor……?"

"...I fainted." Lucius confessed in a dry gasp.

"I HAVE TO PUSH!" Harriet keened as she curled forward over the swell of her belly.

"Bear down when you feel the urge." Severus nodded as his eyes flickered between her knees to see more of his daughter than any father would ever want.

"NNNNNNGGGHHHH!"

"I'm going to be sick…." Lucius murmured weakly.

A loud pop rang out in the room.

Harriet fell back against the pillows as she gasped for breath while Lucius crumpled to the floor.

Severus rolled his eyes before he turned around and saw Draco striding towards him with a confused frown on his face.

"I believe we're ready for father today." Severus drawled as he moved aside.

Draco hurriedly sanitized his hands with a simple spell before he examined his wife.

"Goodness, love, what's happened? Why didn't you send for me?" Draco asked with a scowl as he glanced from Harriet to Severus.

"We summoned you as soon as we realized that she was in pain." Severus explained as he moved to hold his daughter's hand while she groaned again.

"It's fast…...it's too FAST!" Harriet gasped as she held her belly and stared up at the ceiling.

"Everything looks good, love," Draco cooed to her as he laid a hand on her hardened abdomen, "Some babies come fast, some babies come slow…. It looks like ours is coming now, though. When you feel the urge again, go ahead and-"

"-NNNNGGHHHHH!"

Harriet held onto Severus's hands for dear life as she used every cell in her body to expel that horrible, weighty burden from her pelvis.

Her father held her, her alpha was there to aid her, she didn't have to hold anything back.

Draco had said it was fine.

It was fine.

It would be……….fine.

Severus watched his daughter's efforts with a concerned frown until he heard the telltale shriek of a new life come from where Draco sat crouched between her legs.

"WWWWAAA!"

"WWWWWWAAAA!"

"It's a little girl!" Draco cried happily as a wide smile lit up his face.

Harriet's chest heaved and Severus watched with his brow furrowed as Draco lifted the squalling, dirty infant over his wife's belly to place her directly on her mother's chest.

Harriet was too stunned to speak for a moment, but Severus looked down proudly at his new little granddaughter.

For a few seconds, he allowed himself to relive the afternoon that Harriet had been born.

"She's beautiful, love!" Draco laughed as he watched his daughter open her emerald eyes for the first time.

"She certainly is….." Severus nodded in agreement as Harriet wiped away the involuntary tears that streamed down her cheeks during those first few precious moments of postpartum.

Later that evening, mother and baby were clean and comfortable.

The house elves had eventually come in to scrape Lucius off the floor and revive him.

Narcissa had abruptly returned home from her trip after she had received the news that her granddaughter had arrived.

Draco let Harriet rest against him in her nest while Severus, Lucius, and Narcissa took turns cradling their first grandchild.

When Severus sat down on the bed next to the couple as he gave the baby back to Harriet, she laid a hand on her father's wrist and smiled at him.

"Thanks, Dad." She said with gratitude shining in her eyes.

Severus glanced from Harriet to Draco before the baby in his arms let out a tiny coo.

No one would ever forget the day that little Odilia Malfoy entered the world.
