Marineford Days Pt.1
A/N: I dedicate this next chapter to those that reviewed (Xanxouz,Turtletipper123,NoaRien,Depression Turtle) thank you so much for taking the time to write your messages. I wanna keep exploring this au, but updates will probably be sporadic though I might try to do something consistent since I love the Luffy/CP9 stories and want to see more of them along with Lucci stories. Though the next chapter will come out this weekend since this is kinda short :) Thank you for favoriting/following this story and others :)
Monkey D. Garp was devastated. He was berating himself for being too late, for letting Makino get killed. He should have dealt with Higuma sooner, he heard mutterings of his name, but he considered him small fry and he had been too busy dealing with the influx of new pirates in the Grand Line to go home. And now he was paying for it. He held onto Luffy tightly while standing on the deck. They were heading to Marineford, he would ask, beg if he had to, Sengoku to allow Luffy to train as a marine. Even though he was young at 9 years old, he was powerful and he could always get him a devil fruit for a boost- not that he necessarily needed it. Garp exhaled and thought once again about this tragedy, things like this just didn't happen in Foosha. But soon they would arrive and Senny would approve and he would stay for a while and then find someone to train Luffy while he went and did what he did best-hunt pirates.
Meanwhile, Luffy laid curled in his jiji's arms and replayed the scene over and over. He had kicked Higuma in the knee and he had retaliated by shooting him. Except Makino jumped in the way. He just stood there in shock, watching as each bullet hit her. She was like a rag doll, jerking with the force, as each bullet buried itself in her.
Everything slowed down and he could just barely raise his arms, trying to reach towards her. Then Red-Hair came along with his crew and killed all the bandits. But it was too late. Too late. Makino, Makino who treated him like a son or a big sister. She was all the warmness he experienced for a long time. He didn't know about his parents- if they were dead or alive, he didn't care either way at this point. And, gramps, oh enel, gramps, was always busy and every time he visited was a torture fest.
Shanks showed the bandits mercy, he spit out in his own head, and the bandits killed his mother/big sister figure. He knew he messed up by kicking the mountain bandit, but oh enel, he didn't expect him to use a gun, but he knew better now. He would not make the same mistake twice. Red-Hair should know better, he knew better. Gramps told him he was a big-time New World Pirate, even more dangerous than the Grand Line- the so-called 'pirate's graveyard.'
He would never forgive Red-Hair as the image of him wearing a Straw Hat crossed his mind, Shanks, when he called him by name, had placed it on his head once, while they were both sitting by the shore. Shanks told him he reminded him of his own Captain and that wearing the Straw Hat along with his wide grin he could almost see the image of his Captain again. Shanks let him wear his treasure- just for a short while and it was the most special feeling in the world knowing he was trusted with it. That night was filled with Shanks' former Captain's wild adventures and fierce encounters with marines and rival pirates alike. But now that image crumbled like the sand beneath his fingers that night.
One day he would take Red-Hair to Impel Down. Jiji told him it was Hell, and that a pirate like him would probably go down to the lowest level, where he would suffer unimaginable torture. Gramps didn't go into specifics but it sounded horrible. At first he wanted to kill Red-Hair, an eye for an eye and all that but he deserved to suffer for his mistake just as he himself was tormented, so Impel Down sounded like the perfect destination for someone like Red-Hair.
He would train and do whatever it took to become powerful. He would never be that weak again.
A/N: Thank you everyone for your continued support. I appreciate all of you following along with these stories (following/liking) and the reviews are always a great mood boost for me. So continue to review if you have time, constructive criticism included, and let me know what you think of this chapter. I decided for this story that I won't be going in chronological order, meaning I'll be writing 'snap shots' of Luffy's life at varying ages. I might change my mind, I'm going back and forth, but the next chapter for sure, will bring us back to when Luffy and Shanks met for the first time.
