Chapter 2:

Inko Midoriya was having such a wonderful day, despite having to finish cleaning up the damage from that earthquake. Then the person training her quirkless son called her on her son's phone and said that there had been a slight accident and to wait there for them to return. She had been crying and anxiously awaiting her son's return home for hours when the door had opened up and her perfectly healthy son had walked on in with THE All Might behind him. Shock is too tame a word for this circumstance, and after she had woken back up they had told her all the hows and whys while they ate dinner. Afterwards she had made tea and they had moved to the living room to finish their discussion.

She calmly set her tea down on the coffee table and glared at the two fidgeting people in front of her, "So you were planning on giving him power even knowing his body wouldn't be able to handle it?"

The skinny All Might winced, "Yeah... when you put it that way it does sound irresponsible and dangerous."

She then rounded on Izuku, "And you were planning on taking it without telling me that you were going to achieve your dream of both a quirk and being a hero?"

Izuku nodded, "Yeah, but I have powers now without his and I am not in danger of breaking my body into pieces."

Her glare increased in intensity, "And that is supposed to make it okay that you lied to your mother?"

Izuku winced, "No."

She sighed, "Lying to your mother is not a very heroic thing to do, Izuku."

He sank even lower into the couch next to All Might, "Sorry Mom."

All Might bowed very deeply towards Inko, "Please allow me to continue training your son so that he can follow his dream and inspire others to do the same."

Inko sighed, "I will support him 100 percent, and there is probably no one better to teach him about being a hero than you, but if he ends up like you have then I will haunt you in the afterlife."

Izuku blinked at his mom and a grin started to show on his face, "Mom, you...?"

Inko nodded, "I have always felt terrible about what I said to you that day we found out you were quirkless, and I will support you in learning to use your power to be a hero in any way I can."

Izuku smiled fully, tears in the corners of his eyes, "Thank you, Mom."

All Might bowed to her again, "I swear I will do everything in my power to train him so he doesn't end up like me."

Inko bowed to him, "Then I will entrust his future and life to you."

All Might nodded and then stood up, "Now it is high time I get out of your hair and go show the criminals on the streets that I AM HERE!"

Izuku chuckled as All Might exited through the door, and Inko called out, "Be careful so my son can still have a hero to teach him!"

All Might called back, "I WILL! ALSO, YOU WILL NEED TO GET THIS DOOR FIXED, AND DON'T LET IZUKU TOUCH ANY MORE DOOR HANDLES UNTIL I CAN DO SOME STRENGTH CONTROL TRAINING WITH HIM TOMORROW!"

Inko glared at her son as All Might leaped away into the night, "You broke my door handle?"

Izuku grimaced, "I only bent it a little accidentally."

Inko nodded, "At least it isn't as bad as what happened when i first got my powers."

Izuku gave her an inquisitive look, "What happened?"

Inko rubbed the back of her neck in embarrassment, "I may or may not have ended up breaking your grandma's leg with a piano."

Izuku gaped at her, "You broke Grandma's leg!?"

Inko nodded, "She wouldn't give me dessert for a month afterwards."

Izuku winced, "Is that why she had a limp before she died?"

Inko nodded, "That is also why I never went to hero school and allowed my power to atrophy. It was too easy for me to injure people with it. From what you and All Might were saying it is a similar case with your powers. So what were you thinking?"

Izuku scratched the back of his neck, "I was thinking of using some sort of deployable capture tape. I already have something in mind that would allow me to have a lot of it on hand, but I need to work out the mechanism that would deploy it. I kind of figured that something similar to spider spinnerets would work, and it would be appropriate considering..."

Inko chuckled, "Considering your powers came from a spider."

Izuku nodded sheepishly, "Yeah..."

Inko shook her head, "You are going to have to redesign your costume if you go with the spider theme."

Izuku blinked, "Yeah... Maybe..."

Inko chuckled again, "You can plan more when you return to your room Izuku, and think of this as the start of your strength training. You break any more doors or pencils and you don't get my desserts for a week."

Izuku's eyes widened in horror, "A week?"

Inko nodded, "A week. Now get going."

Izuku gave her the most pitiful look he could muster, "Okay."

She watched him walk away, and shook her head, "With any luck the celebratory dessert I have planned for his acceptance into UA will be something really special."

CRUNCH!

She mock sternly called out, "That's one!"

"Awww!"

All Might raised an eyebrow at Izuku's sullen look, "Why so glum, Young Midoriya? We are probably going to be able to finish cleaning up this beach in a couple days thanks to your newfound super-strength."

Izuku sighed unhappily, "I won't be getting dessert for about five months."

All Might tilted his head slightly in confusion, "Why?"

Izuku sheepishly mumbled under his breath, "I broke two doors, three pens, fourteen pencils, and one of the corner posts on my bed."

All Might started to smile, "And?"

Izuku pouted a little, "Mom said that for every thing I broke I wouldn't get dessert for a week."

All Might patted him on the back, "It could be worse, you could have broken her."

Izuku nodded with a grimace, "She said that is what happened with Grandma when she got her powers."

All Might's eyes widened in astonishment, "I didn't realize her quirk was that strong."

Izuku shrugged, "She said it isn't anymore, but what she said made me really want to make something that could be used to capture people instead of me having to punch them. That is why I broke so many pens and pencils, I was drawing up a lot of blueprints and even massively redesigning my costume."

All Might grinned, "What have you come up with?"

Izuku smiled, "A few different designs, but they are all for wrist mounted shooters. The only snag is that I don't exactly have a degree in chemistry that would let me come up with a chemical formula that would produce strands that mimic the properties of spider silk while being supersized and efficient. For my costume I went through multiple different designs because I want it to be something that is functional but that also looks cool and to do that I had to figure out how my wall crawling worked and I figured out that it was a result of very small barbs in the skin on my hands and feet that conducted a small amount of my bio-electricity to result in a powerful form of static cling that lets me stick to any surface, so my suit would have to be relatively thin in those areas so those would be able to form that static bond with the molecules of whatever I am holding on to. As for the other parts of the suit it would most likely be various kinds of support equipment thatwouldbeusefullinmanydifferentsittuationsontopofmaybesomeretractablearmsfrommybacksothatIcouldhaveeightlimbslikeanactualspider..."

All Might sighed, "Kid, you have gone into mumble land again. At least I caught a lot of it this time, and I approve."

Izuku paused at that, "You do?"

All Might chuckled, "I do. Let me get in contact with a friend of mine, he may be able to help on the webbing front and even on the costume and support equipment stuff. I am sure that unless you would want to build it all yourself he would love the challenge."

Izuku nervously toed the dirt in front of him, "Even though I am not in UA yet?"

All Might nodded, "It may be that even just your ideas about support equipment could help other heroes and potentially even save lives. I have taken a peek at your hero and villain notes. Sorry that it was without your permission, but the things you see and make notes on is astounding. It is no small exaggeration to say that many villains would kill for the chance to look at your notes or even turn you to villainy so your analytical skills would be on their side. Please continue to make your notes, and any ideas to help other heroes or speculations on villain weaknesses I will pass on to those who need to know. For example, I have already passed on to the authorities your theory about Hero Killer Stain having some sort of paralysis quirk."

Izuku rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment, "I didn't think my notes were all that important."

All Might nodded, "The ability to analyze things is an important trait that many heroes are sorely lacking, and so long as you don't overanalyze things in a fight you will do well as a hero."

Izuku sighed, "I know, it is just... I always figured that cause I don't have a quirk myself I could always figure out ways so that others would be able to maximize the usage of theirs."

All Might nodded, "But now you have powers. Still though, do I have your permission to send in your ideas to my friend? He will give you all the credit for their design and if they sell a lot than you will have a source of income and a technically heroic job supporting other heroes before even becoming a hero yourself, even if said job wouldn't exactly be on an official basis."

Izuku nodded rapidly, "Of course! I would like to try and build the web shooter things myself though, at least so I can get a feel for them. I would like it if your friend could make improvements to my design, though."

All Might smiled gently, "Thank you, Young Midoriya. My friend has long been bemoaning this generation's lack of inventiveness and desire to improve themselves using technology. He is in fact in something of a slump, and seeing your stuff may just reignite his passion and desire to invent."

Izuku smiled, "I will be happy if I can help your friend, All Might Sir."

All Might grinned and then coughed, "... Well, Young Midoriya, that is a fine attitude to have for a hero. However, it is time for you to learn about your own strength, so..."

Izuku sighed and went towards some of the giant pieces of trash, "Okay..."

All Might smiled, "As you pick things up only use enough strength to get them off the ground as gently as you can."

Izuku paused where he was about to pick up a refrigerator, "In other words treat everything like it is an egg in a microwave. Too little power and nothing happens. Too much power and it goes kaboom."

All Might sighed, "... If you want to see it that way, Young Midoriya. I think your analogy is faulty though, but I can't exactly put my finger on why. So be very carefu..."

CRUNCH!

All Might facepalmed, "What was I just saying!? Do bet..."

CRACK!

All Might glared out of one eye at him, "Young Midoriya, be gentle..."

THUD!

Izuku glanced back at All Might nervously, "Okay, that last one wasn't my fault."

All Might took a deep breath, "Young Midoriya, it is a very good thing we are taking the next couple of days to teach you to control your strength."

Izuku sighed, "Maybe I am just envisioning it wrong?"

All Might had an epiphany, "Maybe... Maybe that is exactly your problem. You are trying to think your way through something that needs to be felt. To quote a movie I liked in my time in the US, 'Feel, don't think, use your instincts.'"

Izuku gave him a baleful look, "Please tell me you did not just go there."

All Might grinned, "Oh yes, I went there Young Midoriya. After all, how much thinking were you doing last night when we were leaping over the tops of the buildings?"

Izuku thought for a second, "Not a lot, I was too busy trying not to become street pizza."

All Might motioned to the garbage around them, "Then what are you waiting for?"

Izuku sighed, "I am trying."

All Might grinned, "Do or do not, there is no try."

Izuku went to glare at him only to yelp as the base of his skull flared and he went into a spectacular set of evasive maneuvers to avoid being squashed by some of the trash that started to crash down around him. He belatedly realized that it had shifted due to his earlier failures to pick things up without crushing them and the sea breeze had finished the job.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

Izuku growled, "I was almost a pancake!"

All Might grinned, "But you weren't because you listened to your instincts. You need to do the same when it comes to using your strength."

Izuku blinked, "So you think the same thing I do about my weird sixth sense?"

All Might nodded, "I think it somehow connects you to the world around you in a similar way to a spider with its web, and at the same time I think it is the combination of your human and spider instincts. You need to learn to listen to it and use it. I know of someone else who had a similar problem in controlling their precognitive abilities so what they did was actively occupy their mind thinking of humorous things to say and let their subconscious do the work of controlling the flow of their abilities and actions. It resulted in a rather odd personality for him that was super serious and yet wanted everything to be a joke."

Izuku blinked, "There are some heroes who have used humor as a coping mechanism for high stress situations, and it is theorized by some that doing that allows them to be loose and able to quickly respond to any situation because they have trained their minds to be spontaneous."

All Might nodded, "That is right, so while picking things up try to concentrate on other things like jokes and when it really counts your analytical abilities won't be impaired by your fighting abilities or vise-versa. Also some villains get really put off their game and make anger fueled mistakes when people are wise cracking about their abilities or looks. Many heroes too. It is actually quite enjoyable to be in the presence of wise cracking heroes and villains going at it. One time I actually did just sit back and grab some popcorn from a nearby vendor while two of them went at it. The villain was just a minor crook and wasn't particularly dangerous to the general public so I decided to just enjoy the show rather than stepping in and saving the day that time."

Izuku blinked, "That sounds kind of cool actually."

All Might nodded with a grin, and a cough, "Now get to work, Young Midoriya, so I can enjoy this show."

Izuku grumbled for a second and got to work, thinking about jokes he could make about the different heroes and villains he had made notes on. Unfortunately he still had a long way to go.

CRUNCH!

"Young Midoriya! *sigh* ...Maybe it would help you to do it out loud?"

"Uhhh... Is..."

THUD!

If anyone was around they would have heard dual sighs ring out through the air as master and student simultaneously thought, "This is going to be a lo-ong day."
