Edward POV
"Er — hello," Harry said, still staring at the small thing on his bed. Bella was just staring, a mixture of panic and confusion on her face.
"The Potter siblings, oh Harry and Isabella Potter!" So the goblin knew who they were? Well granted that wasn't much of a surprise, everyone knew who they were, but it gave a strange indication that these creatures were ingrained into wizarding society. At least enough to know the "superstars" that were my Bella and her brother. "So long has Dobby wanted to meet you, sir, ma'ams… Such an honor it is…" The thing spoke again, 'Dobby'? I guessed that was its name, even if the 3rd person was a bit odd.
"Th-thank you," Harry said, confused. "What are you?" He asked the fairly rude question, at least spoken out loud, earned him an elbow to the ribs from the older twin.
"Ow, Isa!" He whisper-yelled. Bella shot him a glare before turning back to Dobby. In her old body I thought such glares were adorable, she always looked like a kitten when she was angry but in her true form, even at a mere 12 years old, the glare was something even I would cower from, internally at least.
"Who are you?" My girlfriend asked in her ever polite voice.
"Dobby, madam. Just Dobby. Dobby the house-elf," House elf? My inner question was not only repeated in my family's thoughts but also on the faces of Bella and Harry.
"Oh — really?" said Harry. "Er — I- we don't want to be rude or anything, but — this isn't a great time for us to have a house-elf in our bedroom." Just as he said this their aunt's shrill voice pierced the air, abet a bit muffled due to it coming from the kitchen. "Not that I'm not- not that we're not pleased to meet you," said Harry quickly, "but, er, is there any particular reason why you're here?" Harry's voice mingled with Bella's as she asked the ever-present question.
"Would you mind telling me just what a house elf is, Dobby?" Bella said, repeating Harry's earlier question in a much more polite manner. Shooting a glare at Harry again.
The house elf looked confused on who to answer, but apparently, Harry's question took president.
"Oh, yes, sir," said Dobby earnestly. "Dobby has come to tell you, sir… it is difficult, sir… Dobby wonders where to begin…"
"Why don't you sit down?"
"Sit down."
Harry and Bella had spoken in time once again, lucky for Harry since I think one more look similar to the previous two from Bella might have truly hurt him. The two still made pointed eye contact though, but it seemed confused on both sides rather than apologetic to malicious. Their eyes snapped back to the elf fast though when he started crying. Thick, loud sobs burst from the small thing, Bella immediately bent down and started tutting over it, in an attempt to get it to stop crying. Harry started apologizing, automatically figuring he was the one who caused the tears.
Dobby seemed genuinely surprised that he was being asked to take a seat. I tune into my family and they were wondering similar things as me.
"Has the poor thing never been asked to sit down before?" Esme thought, always the mother, even to the elf.
"Offend Dobby! Dobby has never been asked to sit down by a wizard like an equal —" Before I had time to worry over that Bella and Harry started to frantically shush the small elf. He was being extremely loud, his wails continuously increasing in volume, Vernon and Petunia were bound to be hearing them downstairs soon if he continued at this rate, well that is if they hadn't already.
Luckily for the twins, Dobby calmed down soon enough, seeming to wrestle down his upset when he noticed just how frantic the two small wizards were. Harry started to comment on the fact that Dobby must have not met very many good wizards when the chaos started up again.
The elf picked up a book from the desk that sat between the two beds, Bella's, if the overall thickness said anything, and started hitting himself in the head with it.
"What the hell!" Emmett exclaimed, looking properly aghast at the action. "Ow!" He said a second later, Rose had smacked him on the back of the head, the action earning a snicker from Jasper.
"Language Emmett!" Esme and Alice said in time, Esme making the original comment and Alice, pulling a favorite trick of hers, her visions giving her the perfect opportunity. Though if I was being perfectly honest everyone here could have predicted that comment, it was always to be expected if you cursed in front of our mother figure. This caused Esme to send a small glare towards my pixie-like sister.
The memory started up again, pulling us away.
"Don't- what are you doing?" Harry hissed at the elf as Bella looked extremely startled, frozen in place. Harry sprung up and pulled the book out of Dobby's boney hands, lightly shoving him back onto the bed. The house elf landed with a small thump as his shoulder skimmed the wall. Just as Harry pushed him back onto the bed, the two owls in the room started squawking and flapping their wings against the sides of their cages. The loud thumps of a hardcover book against the forehead of Dobby had awoken Hedwig, Harry's owl, and the indignant screech she made as she woke started Bella owl, Ophelia. Bella immediately took to them, shushing them sweetly, trying to calm them down.
"Hedwig please! Ophi calm down, I'm sorry!" She continued to try and calm them, one hand desperately fiddling with the lock on Ophelia's cage as her other hand had snaked three small fingers between the bars of Hedwig's small home, petting her head with the tips of her fingers.
"Isa, can you calm them down please?" Harry begged his sister, still trying to keep a struggling Dobby from reaching anything to which he could, presumably, use to hurt himself and subsequently make more noise with.
"I'm trying Haz, I promise!" she claimed, giving up on the locks and glancing worriedly at the door. Her hair started rapidly changing colors in her stress.
The birds were still squeaking several minutes later, though much more quietly due to Bella's continuous efforts to calm down the two birds. Harry had received some answers to his (and our) questions whilst Bella worked over the owls. Apparently, house elves are like wizarding slaves, bound to a family, and they had to punish themselves, by nature whenever they felt they had done something wrong. In the previous scenario, the elf had inadvertently caused Harry to think bad about his family, even though Harry had not a clue what family Dobby "belonged" to, this was a big no-no to house elves apparently.
"And I thought I had it bad staying here for another four weeks," Harry said. "This makes the Dursleys sound almost human. Can't anyone help you? Can't I? Can't we? We could tell someone at school when we go back! Me and Bells would be glad to help you! As long as you stay quiet!" Harry told him, Bella nodding in agreement to his statement.
The elf looked as if he might start crying again right there. Harry, looking as if he wished he hadn't said anything at all, immediately jumped to calm him before another situation like before presented itself.
"Please be quiet. If the Dursleys hear anything, if they know you're here we'll be in big trouble, Bella will be in big trouble!" Harry claimed worriedly, sending a scared glance at his twin from the corner of his eye.
We all started to growl at the implication. We all knew, of course, we'd all seen, the things that would happen to the twins when they were in trouble at home. Bella received the worst of it, their aunt and uncle seemingly figuring out that hurting Bella hurt Harry more than anything physical ever would, but both twins were likely to be thoroughly 'punished' for 'ruining' the business dinner happening downstairs.
"I still just don't understand how they could treat a child that way?! Especially ones as sweet as Isabella and Harry!" Esme thought. Rose was along similar lines, just far more violent, I couldn't say I didn't find some of her ideas for the Dursleys quite appealing. The only things holding us back from buying tickets straight to the Dursley's door was how disappointed Carlisle would be, and of course the memories we've yet to see. Usually, I would think Esme would be more hurt than Carlisle would be if we acted on our plans for those disgusting excuses for humans but I had heard more than a few surprisingly violent thoughts cross her mind, alongside quite a few curses that she would have thoroughly scolded Emmett for. After such occasions, she seems to come back to herself looking over at me and apologizing in her head. I always found it slightly funny even if it was incredibly surprising, and after all these years she should know that I'm not quick to judge my family on thoughts alone, lest it pertain to Bella.
"Harry Potter asks if the Potter twins can help Dobby… Dobby has heard of your greatness'es , sir, ma'am, but of your goodness, Dobby never knew…"
Harry started to blush as he responded, "Whatever you've heard about my greatness is a load of rubbish. We're really not all that special."
That was a blatant lie, my Bella was the most exquisite, special thing anyone had ever laid their eyes on.
"I'm not even at the top of my year at Hogwarts; that's Bella, she's the smart one of us two, and Hermione, she -" Harry was cut off by Bella. "Shut your mouth Harry!"
"Iz-"
"We agreed not to talk about her- them! Neither of us likes it! And don't call me Izzy!" If the fire in her eyes (and her hair gaining an even darker red color) was anything to go by she would have been yelling if she could. Bella continued staring down her brother from over by the owls, I got the feeling that Harry knew, should he break eye contact first, it wouldn't bode fairly well for him.
Their short staring contest was broken by Dobby, praising them yet again.
"Harry Potter is humble and modest, Bella is very sweet and smart, even to house elves" said Dobby reverently, his orb eyes glowing. "They speak not of their triumph over He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named -"
"Voldemort?" The twins questioned at the same time once again.
"That gets a bit creepy." Emmett committed, Alice nodding along.
"Yeah, I mean, they remind me of those girls at the high school in Prince Rupert," Alice spoke.
"The identical twins?" Jasper questioned.
"I was convinced they had a power like mine with as often as they spoke in time, or finished each other's sentences!" Alice said.
"Oh yeah, they were weird, hot but weird." Emmett's comment got him yet another hit from Rosalie.
"Can we-?" I asked, gesturing to the memory, the action thoroughly shutting them up, our attention back on the magic siblings.
As the memory started up again Dobby slapped his hands on top of his over-large ears.
"No, please, not that name! You aren't supposed to say the name! Don't say it, don't say it, please!" The creature pleaded.
"I'm sorry, Dobby," Bella told him.
"Sorry," said Harry quickly. "I know lots of people don't like it, I mean it's just a name but our friend Ron -"
"Harold James Potter!" said Bella in warning.
"I'm sorry Bells," he apologized.
"Dobby heard a story that Mr. Harry Potter and Miss Bella Potter met the Dark Lord for a second time just a few weeks ago… that Bella and Harry Potter escaped once again."
Bella made a noise of agreement to his statement.
"Ah, you two are most valiant, such great minds, such dangers you both have already faced but I- Dobby has come to protect you's, Mr. and Miss Potter! To warn you! Even if he does have to shut his ears in the door later… Harry Potter must not go back to Hogwarts. Bella Potter must not go back to Hogwarts! You have to stay home! Both of you!" Dobby insisted.
Hi guys, chapter 13 here!
I wanted to say sorry for the terrible grammar in these endnotes cause I know they truly suck but I don't really care that much, but if you care, I apologize.
Okay so I think that everything has gotten slightly confusing with all of the underlining and italicizing and such, plus I just added something new this chapter so:
Bold/Underline = Chapter Title
Underline = POV Marker
Italics = Memories/ Bella's Inner Voice/ AN's at the end (plus ofc just putting indication on a word or statement like in normal literature)
Bold = Usually TW at the beginning of a chapter
Underline/ Italics = Edward reading others thoughts (New this Chapter)
I think that's everything but more questions are welcome, or if you think I made a mistake please let me know!
So um I don't know if you noticed but I changed the rating on the story from T to M, I doubt I need it but I mean I just wanna be cautious cause Deathly Hallows can get a little violent, and language and stuff so yeah, probably nothing to worry about, I'll warn you if it's anything happening that i feel isn't in time with the vibe of the story up to such a point I would be writing said out of place scene.
Prince Rupert is a town in Canada, it gets 166 rainy days a year, according to Google, and I figured that would be enough to pretend the Cullens lived there. And the name was slightly ironic to me because of Rupert Grint.
In this chapter, near the top, Edward referred to Bella, whilst watching memories of a 12 year old girl, as "my girlfriend". Now to me he's still thinking about the fact that future Bella is his girlfriend and yk, that's still Bella. But from another perspective, I could see it being very weird that she's 12 and he's 100 and some, and yk, it would even be weird if he was just 17, and he's calling her his GF. Anyway, what's your opinion, just so I know how to refer in the future?
Some other stuff that doesn't really pertain to the story, first of all the Harry Potter reunion of HBO Max made me cry, I mean some parts of it were a little off, but overall it was good. And idk why I started that like I had multiple points, i don't.
As always,
If you have any questions or suggestions please review, they make me very happy to read thank you for reading!
P.S. I do not support J.K. Rowling or her transphobic views. If you do, I would kindly ask you to leave my page and any of my stories. And if you don't leave on that first warning then I am now going to SCREAM at you to leave! Should have taken the kind shooing shouldn't you? (Sorry if that was mean, but hey so are you so we're even)
